A Jaded smoker's lament

Drinking my morning coffee. I sat slouched into myself, knees pulled to my chest which bellowed cigarette smoke up through the lovely sphincter in my face. A white lady was walking by, pushing one of those trendy baby strollers. The kind for jogging. She seemed to be the kind for jogging, or at least her clothes would lead me to believe. Matching pink trimmed Nikes and bright pink spandex shirt with black yoga pants. She definitely looked the part, yoga mom out for a jog with her child. But as I mentioned, she was not jogging by me but walking. Somehow it really bothered me, I felt like it was a lie. We are living in the age of casual fitness attire as a common style, yet I couldn't understand why someone clearly dressed for exercise with all the complimentary apparatuses an upper middle class lifestyle could justify, was not she fucking exercising. What bothered me more was the fact that she did not even seem present in her surroundings. One of her recently manicured hands gripped the handle of the stroller while the other gripped her phone. Although the rest of her comportment was relaxed, pushing forward leisurely, the thumb of her phone holding hand struck the screen with vigor, like a cancer patient pressing the button for a morphine drip. More, I need more. Unlike the cancer patient she was not looking for relief in the form of a morphine high, but a small burst of dopamine every time she crushed that candy with her vigorous little thumb. Escapism, that's really what it is. What is most tragic is that of all the ways to escape reality, this way is considered the most sane.

Adjust automatic marking as read setting I chose my location this week because of the direction to consider my work's placement in the spectrum and timeline.  Also with regard to context, a lot of things have happened relevant to history, the history of photography, and my mental model as affected by taking courses at @academy_of_art.  As always, the concept is documenting the changing nature of Cape Cod.  I am looking for feedback on the success of the artistic and photographic elements in conveying the linguistic intents of the images in support of the overall concept. This is Corn Hill.  I remind everyone that this is not an actual hill, but a sand dune placed here by a massive glacier's meltwater outwash millennia ago.  History books tell us that the colonization of America began with the Pilgrims' landing on Plymouth rock.  This is untrue.  the Pilgrims landed at the tip of Cape Cod where the town of Provincetown stands today.  For five weeks, they stayed in this area finding the food stores of the indigenous people and taking them for their survival.  The name of this place comes from the corn stores that were stored here by the native tribespeople.   This hill was also a background of a Joel Meyerowitz photograph.  Seen on the right are the Roseville Cottages.  I am standing maybe fifty feet from where Meyerwitz made his exposure, however, the hill is much changed from when he did so.  For the purpose of my thesis, the buildings dotting the landscape, the footings of which are carved into the tender sand, have to do with the continually changing nature of the region and the increasing terraforming that affluence brings to the area. #cornhill #truro #modernlandscapes #builtenvironment #socialcomentary #historyofphotography #photographycanon #meyerowitz #hopper #rosevillecottages #capelight #storm #clouds #capecod #capecodinsta #capecodinstagram #capelife #capecodphotographer https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj0XcD0ucAQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
