I'm just saying we should be angry as hell at smartphone manufacturers for taking away headphone jacks and removable storage.
Yes Apple started the headphone jack thing, but every other company followed in their stupid ""courageous"" footsteps. Remember when Google first launched the Pixel and lorded about how it still had a headphone jack but then removed it all of a year later when the Pixel 2 launched?
Apple never did have expandable storage, but most other smartphones did. That was a design motif that dated back to the flip phone era. The biggest seller of Android smartphones (or at least the one with most representation on store shelves), Samsung, doesn't even include it in their top of the line devices anymore.
These companies have removed features and forced us to buy them back in one way shape or form, or worse; forced us into inferior experiences as consumers in the case of cheap quality Bluetooth earbuds. And in cases where manufacturers used to offer phones with expandable storage, now the only option is buying the model with more storage capacity, rather than you know, simply buying a micro SD card with exponentially more memory for a fraction of the price. Even OnePlus, whose smartphones are often labeled as "flagship killers" for how their specs and internal components, and whose slogan is literally "Never Settle", caved to the design trends of other brands
As it stands now there's only one major smartphone manufacturer that still sells a flagship smartphone that functions properly in the US (other countries have different antenna bands for 5G and LTE signals than the US does), and still has a headphone jack and micro SD card slot for expandable storage, that's Sony. Whose phones are among the most expensive sold in the US with the Xperia 1 IV having an MSRP of $1599

so there's been several attempts at modular or repairable smartphones, which usually fall flat due to being from some brand nobody has heard of, being complex and expensive to produce, and having lackluster specs for the price, on top of only being available in some highly specific countries but i think i know one possible way to bring those to the mainstream first off, lets be real, the amount of people who are going to actually care about upgrading their phone even if it's as easy as plugging in a thing is going to be tiny; most people aren't going to give a shit no matter what you do, so trying to pitch the idea for example to investors or to some large manufacturer already falls flat there; there's nothing in it for them but what if we instead take a page from the laptop industry's book? say, you want a Thinkpad T480 you can get a T480 in a whole pile of configurations, there's several CPU options, screen options, storage configurations, etc.; yet they all share most of the components, including the casing, batteries, most of the motherboard, cooling, keyboard, etc. you get the idea pitch it to some phone manufacturer as reducing costs for them rather than for the customer now, lets say for example, idk, Sony, wants to sell a new Xperia phone, call it the ZM10 for example, they can get a whole phone line out of the single design say, want a budget phone? make a ZM1 with the same frame and mainboard layout, and as many shared parts as possible, but use a plastic back panel, a lower resolution display panel, and only a single camera sensor now, you also want a top of the line model? ZM100, with a titanium back panel, more camera sensors, higher res screen, but still using the same mainboard layout for example, such that you can share parts like the wireless components, buttons, microphone and speakers, charging connector, potentially even battery the end customer doesn't even need to know that they share so many parts, the enthusiasts who are going to try repairing and upgrading the thing would try to do it anyways, as i can say as someone with a Very Normalᵀᴹ Oneplus 6 that way the manufacturer only needs to stock a limited number of parts, and can use mostly the same machinery, and won't need to train employees as much, saving costs in design, manufacturing, and logistics

Asus has built for itself a great market in the smartphones sector. May it be the mid-range phones or higher ones, the quality and quantity is enough to make one happy. Previously, the phones that Asus brought were not si compatible and didn’t give the performance as expected from the price they cost. But in recent times, Asus has improved a lot to say. Be it the processor, or the memory or the camera and display, the improvements that Asus has made are notable ones. And the performance has also managed to impress users. When it comes to Android smartphones, Asus is now a prominent competitor of Xiaomi, Samsung, Moto etc. But, recently Asus has also entered the gaming market. It has introduced the Asus ROG Phone which is solely about gaming besides the basic smartphone uses. T phone has great specifications and is an awesome choice when it comes to gaming. If you don’t know what ROG phone is, ROG stands for Republic Of Gamers, and this will be first smartphone of Asus targeted only for games. Asus has built this as a completion against Razer Phone. In this article, I am going to discuss about the specifications of the ROG phone and we will see if it really is the ultimate gaming smartphone as claimed by the company or not. Let’s start. SPECIFICATIONS : So, basically this is the first smartphone of Asus made solely for gamers; Asus phones are built for gaming too but this one is a proper gaming console phone. Let’s get to the specifications – Its device name is ZS600KL. CPU – The processor of ROG has been made to beat Razer, and I think it has been successful as well. The processor is basically Kyro 285, but there are four 2.96 GHz Kyro 385 Gold ones and four more 1.85 GHz Kyro 385 Silver ones. It us an Octacore processor keeping in mind the ultimate experience of gaming. According to a prominent comparison site, Asus has been able to best Razer phone and various others, both of its own and also other brands. The study says that the CPU frequency of other Asus has been revolving around 2200 MHz to 2500 MHz, with the previous best being 2800 MHz of the Zenfone 5Z, but the ROG gives 2960 MHz of CPU frequency. Composing with other brands, others like Vivo NEX S, Razer Phone 2, Xiaomi Pocophone, Sony Xperia XZ2 etc. Must Read: Samsung Galaxy A7 Launched in India – Price, Features, Specs & Reviews Display – The ROG phone has an amazing display features. The screen is of a 6-inch size having aspect ratio 18:9. It is an FHD+ (Full HD +) display and an AMOLED panel with 2150×1080 pixels. It supports High Dynamic Range imaging (HDR)and has 90 Hz refresh rate. Just one thing you don’t get is a notch display. By the way, is that needed after you get so much? Speakers – It has a dual front-facing speaker to give you a realistic gaming experience. Also, a 3.5 mm headphone jack is present. Camera – ROG gives you dual rear camera setup and a single front facing a camera. The dual cameras are – one is a 12 Mega Pixels camera with aperture (f/1.8, 1.4um) and another 8 Mega Pixels camera with an aperture (f/2.0,1.12um). It supports PDAF and has Gyro Executive Information System (EIS). The front camera is of 8 Mega Pixels with an aperture (f/2.0, 1.12um). Overall in this price, it’s a good camera set up. Battery, Storage, and Security – It’s a gaming phone, do we need a good battery backup. Hence, ROG gives you a 4000 mAh battery. And want to know about charging? Don’t worry. You get fast charging support, a ROG has Quick Charge 4.0 and Hypercharge. So no need of sitting for a long time to charge your phone. And yes, the charging port is USB type – C. Coming to storage, you are having a gaming phone, right? So you get a humongous 8 GB of RAM and the internal storage depends on you; you get two variants, 128 GB or 512 GB. Yes, one con is that you can’t use an external memory card. But the question is, you get 128 or 512 GB of storage, do you still need a memory card? As security, you get the basic pattern, pin, and password system along with a stylish Fingerprint scanner on the rear side.
Must Read: Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Review: Detail Price, Design,Camera, Performance Other Contents in the box – When you’re coming to the box part, let me inform you that you’re getting a really stylish boxing system, entirely different from other phones. The box looks really amazing. Now let’s come to other bid contents you’ll get. If you’re a PC gamer switching to mobile gaming, then ROG is perfect for you. You’ll get two different accessories. First is an actual gamepad made by Gamevice that clips on both the sides of the phone. The gamepad has the basic physical buttons and analog sticks. The gamepad also works with a WI Gig dock to wirelessly stream gameplay to a connected TV. Second is a clamshell accessory that turns the ROG Phone into a dual screen phone. Dual screen gaming phone! Awesome, right? But the most amazing fact is that the second screen is itself a 6-inch screen and has its own battery capacity of 6000 mAh. It also brings for you four front-facing speakers, shoulder buttons, and more cooling. Aye claims these would prove necessary for extended gaming sessions. Oh, did I forget to tell you about cooling? ROG phone has vapor cooling and an externally attachable fan accessory. So thinking about extra gaming? Don’t think, just go for it because your phone won’t heat up. Full Specifications – Release date June 2018 Form factor Touchscreen Dimensions (mm) 158.80 x 76.20 x 8.60 Weight (g) 200.00 Battery capacity (mAh) 4000 Fast charging Quick Charge 4+ Colours Black Screen size (inches) 6.00 Touchscreen Yes Resolution 1080×2160 pixels Protection type Gorilla Glass Aspect ratio 18:9 Processor 2.96GHz octa-core (4×2.96GHz + 4×1.7GHz) Processor make Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 RAM 8GB Internal storage 512GB Expandable storage No Rear camera 12-megapixel (f/1.8, 1.4-micron) + 8-megapixel Rear flash LED Front camera 8-megapixel (f/2.0) Operating system Android 8.1 Skin ROG Gaming UI Wi-Fi Yes Wi-Fi standards supported 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac GPS Yes Bluetooth Yes, v 5.00 NFC Yes USB Type-C Yes Headphones 3.5mm FM Yes Fingerprint sensor Yes Compass/ Magnetometer Yes Proximity sensor Yes Accelerometer Yes Ambient light sensor Yes Gyroscope Yes So this was all about Asus Republic Of Gamers Phone. Went into Best Buy to get a look at all the new phones that have come out so far. Here are my takeaways.
The iPhone 15 Pro Series: is as clean as always. Seems more like the "S" upgrades of past phones but they have made the dynamic island very functional and cool. Cameras don't seem much better than the 14 Pro Series and titanium is a gimmick.
iPhone 15 Series: Only complaint. Please have at least a 90Hz refresh rate going forward on the cheaper phones. Other than that, usual solid upgrade for anyone whose phone is 4 years or older.
Z fold 5: Was really excited for this phone but the only thing that changed was the hinge. Although it's a good change it's not worth an upgrade on a first generation hinge. Excellent if you have a zfold 2 or a different slab phone and can get a good trade in for it.
Z flip 5: That outer screen makes all the difference. If you're a minimalist with small pockets. This is the phone for you. Can even probably replace a smart watch. Everything else is the same as before, so a better upgrade than the fold but still iterative.
RazrPlus: Motorola has a hard time competing in the Android space but the functionality of the front screen of this phone is the best on any foldable. Aspect ratio is perfect and the back of the phone feels amazing.
Pixel 8 Series: Blown away by the cameras, I'm still partial to the customization of OneUI but Android 14 is a very usable upgrade and I think bored iPhone users should look into these phones. Other than that the AI and Assistant is top notch. I'm always leery about long term performance. Hopefully the 7 years of updates will help.
Pixel Fold: First generation product that needs some refined aspects to the software, specifically multitasking. The hardware is extremely high quality and the front screen is better for anyone who doesn't want the tall aspect ratio of the ZFold. Cameras are good but not as good as the flagship slab Pixels.
Sony Xperia Series: it's like the z fold front screen and the pixel had a baby. This is the true phone for audiophiles and the 4K screen is *chef's kiss*. The price and lack of support in the US could be a deal breaker but these phones are notoriously sturdy and have been since the TMobile contract days.
Galaxy A Series: the bang for buck on these is stellar. If you just need something to do basic functions these are cheap phones that get the job done with amazing screen tech. If you wanna up the camera game a bit go with the A54 or higher.
Pixel 7a: by far the best for camera tech and for stock Android. The phone is fast and basic. Still not as customizable as a Samsung but definitely worth a look.
DM me if you'd like a recommendation for a new phone :)

Leaked Video Shows the Upcoming Sony Xperia 5 V
Tumblr media
Smartphone leaks are a gift that keeps on giving - given how tenacious the internet is at finding out new stuff (both officially and unofficially), it only makes sense that we'll get a few snippets of fresh new information about upcoming smartphones. The internet is flooded with various benchmark scores, leaked boxes and packaging, and in today's case, promotional videos. To be more specific, it looks like we now have a clue of what Sony's upcoming Xperia 5 V will look, thanks to a new leaked video on the internet. Based on what we've seen so far, it looks like the handset will come with some pretty interesting design and hardware choices - let's check it out. External Design Posted on Reddit by user JB2unique, the clip (which can be viewed here) shows a rather lively promotional video which highlights the physical design of the phone. As expected, the Xperia 5 V will come with a rather familiar-looking design, as Sony does tend to stick to a similar look for all of its current handsets. This means that the Xperia 5 V will have a rectangular form factor, not unlike the flagship 1 V or even the budget 10 V. The phone will also feature minimal bezels, a design trait that we've seen on countless Xperia smartphones before, so there's no hole punch cameras or notch cutouts here - while some users might complain that such a design makes for a thicker border around the display, this does mean that we're left with a cleaner-looking display overall. The video also shows three different colour choices for the phone, which will be available in either black or white, as well as a third blue variant. At the moment it looks like this is all we'll be getting, unless Sony decides to release an additional colour version later on. Interestingly, the video also shows the rear panel of the Xperia 5 V, which features a dual-camera set-up, a peculiar hardware and design choice especially considering that last year's Xperia 5 IV featured a triple-camera setup, not to mention the triple-camera setup on both the 1 V and the 10 V. While not confirmed yet, it's very likely that the dual-lens array might consist of a main lens and an ultra-wide shooter. Rumoured Specs Based on the video, the promotional material focused solely on the phone's design - no information regarding the phone's hardware specifications, price, or launch date was featured in the video, and unless we get a newer leak soon - or unless Sony makes an announcement - fans still have to be a bit more patient should they want to get their hands on the Xperia 5 V once it launches. With that being said however, early benchmark scores recorded online on Geekbench and subsequently shared on Weibo point to the Xperia 5 V having some pretty impressive hardware, which isn't very surprising given that it fits right below Sony's high-end flagship device range. The V series has always served as a "premium mid-ranger" device or "budget flagship" in terms of pricing, which means we'll very likely get some sweet hardware inside. The leaked benchmark scores also indicate that the phone will come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, Qualcomm's top-of-the-line SoC for 2023. This will reportedly be backed by up to 16GB of RAM, although there's no mention if this is the standard model or if Sony will offer a more affordable base variant with slightly held back specs. In any case, the Xperia 5 V is shaping up to be a rather impressive-looking Android handset, and if Sony decides to price the phone competitively, we might end up with a proper competitor to devices like the Pixel 7 (or even the Pixel 8).
