re your post about the potential of Parker being pregnant- it got me thinking and, oh my god, it could give so much more depth to Eliot’s excitement/joy at thinking about “cute little baby clothes” in redemption season two episode nine if he and/or Parker and/or Hardison have started looking into things like that (and it works regardless of it’s the ot3 or P/H and uncle Eliot)

Omg YES!!!!!!!! You're right!!!!! Hahaha also imagine them all going baby clothes shopping and bickering over the style of clothes to buy!!

Anddddd also now I'm imagining Eliot with a baby carrier pappoose thing, and he has little matching outfits with the baby!! And it's all cuddled up in the carrier on his back while he cooks the most gourmet baby food on the planet!!

Idk but the Eliot + baby combo brings me the absolute most joy. I mean it all brings me joy lbr.. Alec teaches the baby basic sign long before it can communicate verbally, meanwhile he's hacking the cia in the background, there are colourful flashcards and empty orange soda bottles scattered everywhere! Parker talks to the baby like it's a fully grown adult and the baby is also definately autistic too, cause it does run in family's and I'm gonna combust!! It's a little girl, she's perfect and clever and the best bits of all of them!!!!!! And Brea does her hair but refuses to change nappys, and Harry's been there done that and is actually very helpful and Sophie is the most doting grandmother figure you've ever seen and loves sneaking the baby into every con she possibly can!

Maybe, just maybe, one day, when the little one is all grown up and kicking ass and taking names and doing good in the world, Eliot can look at this person that he helped to raise and loves as his own and finally, finally recognise in them the immense good of his legacy and not just the old wrongs and he can can actually feal like he's earned redemption!!

It's a baby, it's new begginings, it's legacy, making the future better for and with them!!! What a great layer to add to add to a show exploring redemption!!!

tysm for answering my qs about werewolf!eliot !! not to keep bugging you lol but i remember you mentioned in the tags of a post one time about a hc/au of parker being some sort of fae or otherworldly being who’s just kinda found herself here in the non-magical world - could you elaborate on that? like how come she’s in the non-fantasy part of the leverage universe, or whether the other characters know, etc? only if you want to of course, no pressure :) i’m really enjoying reading your posts about all these ideas!

You're welcome! And you're definitely not bugging me, I love getting the chance to ramble about my thought lol (werewolf!eliot post here) (link to the post and my tags that started this)

Honestly I don't have as clear ideas for Parker as I did for Eliot, but I imagine her being some kind of changeling or air/wind sprite that was left with humans for whatever reason.

(ooh i'm getting more ideas for this the more i think about it..)

okay, Parker is actually half-fey, half-human

no one really knows who her parents were or how she came to be on her own (me included lol), she was just found on a doorstep as a baby

the people who took her in had their own issues and the state eventually intervened and sent Parker into foster care

she found out at a very early age that she was different to other kids - she could move around without making a sound, she could fit into tiny spaces - all very helpful for a young girl in a foster system that was chewing her up and spitting her out

she also discovered that she could ... not turn invisible exactly, but she could be less visible if she wanted to be; all she has to do is think about not being seen and people's eyes just drift over her

Archie had absolutely no idea what she was when he got his hands on her, but even he knew that she was beyond just a gifted child

he only realised there was something magical about her after she fell off the roof of the warehouse he'd been training her in - then walked it off like it was no biggie

fey creatures love puzzles and riddles, so of course Parker has always had a natural affinity for puzzles (aka locks)

her super artistic talent is a trait that is Entirely Parker and, given that she entered a life of crime early and was surrounded by artistic masterpieces all the time, she never even considered that other people would draw/paint/whatever with any lower skill level

this contributes to her not understanding what the fuss is over art

she gave herself the name Parker when Archie met her and asked her name; it was the first thing that came to mind

she doesn't remember her birth name and isn't bothered by that in the slightest

Eliot was the first of the team to figure out she was fey - being a werewolf, he can smell and/or sense that kind of thing on others

Hardison suspected something was up with her, but then felt bad for thinking that, but then strange things kept happening around her so he started to keep a list ...

pretty much Hardison has a red-string conspiracy theory-style board of Parker Things. He's too terrified of offending her to ask her outright, but he's more convinced every day

(he's also more in love with her and just thinks her fey-ness is another thing to celebrate)

Parker finds Hardison's board of Parker Things and is utterly fascinated. It's like he understands her better than she understands herself. He's super flustered when he finds her poring over the board and tries to make excuses, but Parker's quick to steamroll over that and demands if he knows what she is

Eliot finds them 15 mins later, stuck in an endless loop of confusion over which of them actually knows what Parker is

he just rolls his eyes, says she's half-fey, it's obvious, like, "what? it's a very distinctive smell!"

which leads to how the hell would he know what the fey are and Eliot's like, oh crap, right, they still don't know I'm a werewolf whoops

Hardison and Parker stage a coming-out for her to Nate and Sophie

(Eliot refuses to be involved but still gets roped into carrying the banner. He's still finding glitter in his hair weeks later)

Sophie is thrilled about the reveal and confesses to being a siren (or some other supernatural/magical creature that can manipulate people, idk i have less thoughts about her than i do about parker)

Nate is all like are you kidding me right now what the hell is my life

after a lot of badgering, he confesses he didn't know about Parker, although he has been ... aware of magical beings for some time

no he will not be discussing this any further, can we just get back to the con now??

Parker finds that, now she's aware of her fey-ness, her magical abilities develop further

she doesn't quite gain the ability to fly but ... yeah okay, she can pretty much fly

she wants to test how far this flying ability goes - by, of course, jumping off tall buildings with Hardison in her arms (and no harness for either of them)

Hardison flat out refuses this, so Eliot somehow finds himself the unwilling victim

of course, Parker masters flying while carrying people in no time and proves it to Hardison by just grabbing him and jumping off a building one day

(he's still in therapy for it)

Parker also discovers she can make herself kind of ... misty

this skill is harder to learn but she's already been able to make her hand go misty and whoosh inside a lock

picking the lock is harder in this incorporeal state but Parker's instincts say there's a way to do this, so she keeps practising until she can pretty much disintegrate herself and float through locked doors to rematerialise on the other side

it's a nightmare for the whole team because, sure, it's not like locked doors stopped her in the past. But now she's so excited about it all the time that any concept of privacy completely leaves her brain and she jumps in and out of rooms and safes etc any time of day or night

Wow. This ended up longer than expected! Guess I did have some ideas about fey!Parker after all..

Just Bungou Stray Dogs! It's also the first fandom I've written for, actually. :D

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

This is how it feels to take a fall (Dazai goes feral, time shenanigans)

Plate :( (Dazai breaks a plate, experiences emotions)

Dazai and the Moving Detective Agency (Howl's Moving Castle AU)

Chuunyaa's Pawsitively Catastrophic Day (Chuuya is turned into a cat, it's short and pretty much just shenanigans)

Wish in one hand (First fic I wrote, and the first one I posted — Dazai has emotions about handholding)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to, but I've been absolutely terrible at it lately — whenever I'm particularly stressed I start worrying that the negative emotions are going to leak through into what I'm writing and make my tone sound weird, so then I end up turtling in on myself and not saying anything at all, no matter how much I want to engage with people. It's a bad habit, and I want to work on it, so I'm gonna try to catch up on comments! (I treasure every single one of the ones I receive, so for anyone who has left a comment and hasn't gotten a response from me yet, thank you and I am very sorry about my inability to form words in a timely manner skdjfksd)

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably An Unsent Letter, since it's pretty much just a short snippet of Dazai being sad while he's leaving the mafia. And even with that one, I have in my head that skk still get together after the four years apart, I just didn't write it. I am dreadful with sad endings — although the ending to "This is how it feels to take a fall" is a little bittersweet, perhaps.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Hmm...I'm gonna say Dazai and the Moving Detective Agency, because it's the one with the longest buildup, so I think it has the most catharsis, at least for me! But I tend to give all of my fics happy endings because, as established, I am a wimp when it comes to hardcore angst. I will say that Zut Alors I Have Missed One is probably a contender for happiest as well, just because that fic had no angst whatsoever and was just Unhinged

8. Do you get hate on fic?

Nope! Everyone's been lovely! I have gotten some for my art, but honestly it was pretty toothless and I couldn't take it seriously lol

9. Do you write smut?

...Yeh. :0 There was an attempt, at least — one fic, and I made it anonymous (so on the extreme off-chance that anyone notices a discrepancy between my total ao3 wordcount listed here and the summed up wordcounts of the fics viewable on my profile, that's why!) It's also another fic I need to finish, I hit my writing roadblock with that one at the same time as all my others, and it's almost doneeee I just need my brain to cooperate >:|

10. Do you write crossovers?

Not any proper crossovers, only things like the Howl AU and the Little Mermaid AU, where I took the settings/plots and put in BSD characters.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

...Possibly? I'm not actually sure, I've given a couple people permission, but I'm not sure if anything came of that, I haven't heard one way or another :0 I do have a tendency to use puns, which I realize might make things difficult for translations

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, not so far — and given how tempestuous my schedule has been, it'll probably be a while before I attempt anything like that! Sounds fun, though

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

...I mean, it's gotta be soukoku, because for all that I've enjoyed a lot of fictional pairings before (for example, Howl and Sophie specifically from the HMC books, Beatrice and Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing — I like bickering duos, what do you know — Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane, currently falling down the Hualian rabbithole because I'm reading Heaven Official's Blessing with my friend, and there's lots of other ones), for as much as I like all those, I haven't really had much of an urge to write anything for them.

So, purely in terms of me wanting to mess around with two characters and write them over and over and over again, it's really only skk! They hit the exact right combination of braincells, I guess lololol

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but probably won't?

Hmmm...honestly, most of my WIPs I still intend to finish at some point or another — first priority being the ones I've already started posting, of course! Although...just due to time constraints, I might not get around to writing the thief!Chuuya/detective!Dazai one I was planning a while back. (and I mean a WHILE lol) I didn't write very much of it, and honestly most of the reason I wanted to write it was for comedy — so maybe I'll turn it into a short comic series instead, because I do think some of the bits were funny :0

16. What are your writing strengths?

That's a hard one; I tend to look more at the ways I want to improve my writing then at what I like about it, and I nitpick just about everything I create, art and writing alike. But if I had to pick something, I would probably say dialogue? That tends to be what I write easiest, at least. I still want to get better at that too, though.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Descriptions and action scenes. I've been making myself write them more, so I think I'm slowly improving (the Howl AU has been great for that! It pushed me to write all sorts of scenes I wouldn't have normally :D ), but those two things remain what I get bogged down by the most.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Depends on the circumstances, I think? I'd include translations if I did. I do tend to include Japanese honorifics when I'm writing in the canon universe, because there's not really english equivalents and it feels like I'm leaving something out when I just do their names straight — although I did take them out when I was doing the Howl AU and the Little Mermaid AU, just as a setting thing.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Bungou Stray Dogs — like I mentioned in the ship section, this is the first fandom where I've really felt the urge. Although I did write things when I was little that very blatantly yoinked in various creatures and concepts from the things I was reading and watching, which resulted in stories with pirates and weeping angels and Ringwraiths all running around in the same place. But I didn't usually bother with bringing in actual characters from those pieces of media, or even using the settings, I just made ocs and had them run around in my own made up world.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

I like all of them for different reasons, but I think my favorite overall has to be Dazai and the Moving Detective Agency. It's the longest thing I've ever written, and when I started out I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it — so the fact that it's most of the way done (currently chipping away at the epilogue, it is getting to be a LOT of words) makes me really happy. And it's just been so much fun! Writing characters I hadn't before, piecing the world together, working out the magic system, writing Dazai being a mess and Chuuya being cool, it's all been a blast. And I seriously need to finish the epilogue, because the followups are living in my brain and they demand to be freed aksdfjksdjfk

But yeah! I'm not sure how many writers I know on here have already been tagged, so I'll just go open tags on this one! :D If any of y'all write and feel like doing this, then go for it!

On pc only the Sims 4, the Witcher 2/3, tomb raider, cyberpunk 2077 (although I'm not very good at it and I keep fucking up 😂). I'm a massive fan of the Witcher 3 and I keep replaying it because the thought of saying goodbye to it is something I can't deal with lol

On ps I play multiplayer games with my siblings so ratchet and clank, it takes 2, and all sorts of Lego games. When I play solo then god of war (🩵), the last of us, outlast

12-17 Space Notes -- Candy and Some Review

This was a Twitter space reviewing various debunks ("gaslight-breakers") about the scam and chatting about some recent candy. These notes aren't super comprehensive since a lot of it was just review of old stuff, [recording here].

Recent candy:

Some of the photos for Gong Jun's recent Conde Nast shoot were taken in an independent restaurant in Chengdu. Some JZPs went and had dinner there, and discovered that things like the tableware are have remarkable similarities to things from Word of Honor and LLD. People also learned that the restaurant has some financial difficulties recently, and got through it because of a "benefactor". These more CP-ish elements were only introduced after that. [Tweets with more details]

Part of the video from the same shoot has a moment very reminiscent of the "There's a light on you" scene.

There was a recent photo of Gong Jun with what seems to be a distinct ring mark on his fourth finger.

Review of the shoe tag candy: In June(?) 2021, Gong Jun and Zhang Zhehan wore different pairs of Off White sneakers that had the tags switched (ie. shoe A with tag B). You can only buy them with the matching tags, and to take them off without breaking them you have to completely undo the laces.

Apparently yesterday when Gong Jun was going to the airport, someone yelled something like "babi, your nut [the hexagon ring] fell out!" and he looked at the ground.

The photoshoot with the Crazy Jun sign. (Context: Zhang Zhehan's Weibo was Crazy Zhang Zhehan, and Gong Jun even made a comment in one of the woh interviews that he had found it weird before he met Zhehan.)

In Gong Jun's recent single, the only musician not credited was the pianist. Make of this what you will.

Serious stuff:

There was a video going around the fandom on Twitter the other day of Zhang Sanjian talking with very Taiwanese speech patterns. This is far from the first time this has been noticed.

At the Singapore fanmeet, the audio for the singers before Zhang Sanjian was very clear. When Zhang Sanjian came out there was suddenly very heavy reverb, to the point where people who went said they couldn't tell what the song was actually supposed to sound like.

Some haizhe who went to the fanmeet also said that Zhang Sanjian smelled terrible, like to the point where you could smell it from the front rows.

It was recently learned that Nada (the woh screenwriter) and AvenueX know each other. AveX used to say she had insider info, so that explains that.

Tons of the photos that have been posted to the Instagram and such of Zhang Sanjian have noise filters over them, sometimes to the point where you can see it if you zoom in. Noise filters are often used to mask evidence of photoshopping (and a lot of the zsj photos still don't hide it well enough lol.)

Umbrella (Sophie's husband) at one point admitted to being the one running Zhang Mama's Weibo account. It has also been previously confirmed that the phone number the account was registered under belongs to Chen Ahyi.

Can you imagine how pissed off and devastated this girl is??

"- NO! NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!! This isn't FAIR!" She would scream while banging her head on the table, which I guess anyone would do if they were in this weird situation.

Can you imagine falling in love with someone, but then hearing that not only they had a partner already- They were ENGAGED and were going to have a CHILD TOGETHER??!

To add salt to injury, it was fuckin SOPHIE ANDERSON, because of course it was!!

"- That two-faced, darling snatching whore! How could she?! How could she, how could she, how could she, how could she, how could she, how could she?!!"

Sophie and Alexandra weren't exactly the best of friends, but at least they weren't exactly on "bad terms" (not until now at least). I like to think they used to know each other from some sort of choir that Alexandra participated in when she was younger (and when people couldn't really judge her horrible singing voice).

Sophie Anderson wasn't considered a public menace like the Coldwell twins, but people did know she was rich.

"- Oh I bet she BOUGHT them with her kindness and stupid loads of money, God, darling you're such a CHEAP HOE!"

She is fuming with rage and betrayal, thinking that Sophie was aware of her crush on you. Her "tsundere af" crush on you.

Okay let's be honest, it wasn't exactly a secret that Alexandra had a thing for you, but everyone including you just assumed it was part of the bullying schedule to be pinned down and whispered twisted sweet nothings.

Oh, and how could you, how could you impregnate another woman, an absolute nobody who's only good at singing because her parents are rich music fanatics! She knows how much money they wasted in making that girl a "natural talent".

She has cried and screamed for hours after hearing the recorded call, I guess you can imagine how awful it would feel to be in her position and see you proudly take responsibility over a kid that shouldn't even exist (in her eyes). She wished she could go back in time and be the exact person you see in Sophie, maybe then you would have given HER a kid instead of this- Wicked siren! Who stole you away from her!

"- What does she have that I DON'T!?! What could she ever provide to you that I couldn't make it double, you selfish brat!!"

One day before your wedding the only thing you saw was the look of an enraged Alexandra who had painstakingly planned your entire new life beside her overnight. Or more accurately, under her.

"- I give you freedom and the first thing you do is betray my trust, I thought you would know better than to sleep with some lowlife- CLEARLY, you need someone to teach you a lesson or two about respect!"

"- You stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid-" She can't find the words to continue, she wants to curse you, to yell at you and to punish you from misbehaving.

But then again she also wants to kiss you and be held by you, to be reassured that she isn't this monster you're so desperately trying to crawl away from, but she is.

She knows she is. She knows why would have chosen sweet Sophie over her, Sophie never bullied you.

Sophie probably wouldn't have kidnapped you and hurt you to get your love back, because she doesn't need to do that.

You love her for who she is, you love her without being told to and that's something Alexandra will never have.

"- I… I can be better than her-! I can give you a kid too- I can give you anything… As long as you obey. As long as you're not stupid again, dumbass…"

For a moment she considered comforting you, but after a regretful torture session she doesn't have enough courage to look at your fearful and spiteful eyes and give you a slice of her softer side. But since you're here with her now, she'll have plenty of time to rebuild what she completely destroyed.

→ Adrien Coldwell:

Can you imagine how absolutely depressed and devastated this boy is?

He hasn't come out of his room ever since hearing the recorded call between Sophie and her friend. He kept trying to "wake up", as childish as this sounds.

"- … It's a nightmare, it's a nightmare, it's a nightmare, it's not real, please…"

And to add salt to injury, it was Sophie Anderson, the little singer wannabe.

"- Heartless…" He couldn't believe he helped boost her music career by using her song on some of his reels. He'll be deleting those if he doesn't end up just deleting his Instagram account.

Differently from Alexandra's relationship with Sophie, Adrien DID consider her a friend, or at least someone trustworthy- He had never suspected that you two were a thing…

"- You're heartless- You're also so fucking heartless, darling!" He didn't come out of his room that day, just mumbling to himself and whimpering at the thought of you not only marrying someone else, but also building a family with them.

Just because he can't give birth to a kid, doesn't mean he wouldn't go above and beyond to give you one- If he knew that it was something you dreamed about then he would bring your fantasies into reality, be through adoption, artificial insemination, tube babies, he doesn't care!

He would have preferred using witchcraft to birth a demon child (despite his skepticism and disinterest in the occult) than to ever see you holding someone other than him in your arms.

"- … You're evil… You're so, so evil dear… I could have given you anything, I was READY to give you anything you desire… I just wanted you to be mine…!" His voice is pathetically wimpy for someone who has kidnapped you just a day before your wedding, probably because he hasn't taken really good care of himself during the meantime, only focusing on planning for your new life beside him. Or more accurately, above him.

He has been broken down so severely that although he is aware you look at him with nothing but hatred and fear- He doesn't care anymore, he just wants to be able to have you and worship you.

It wasn't a secret that Adrien had some sort of weird crush towards you, though you just assumed he was infatuated with the pain he used to bring you, not WITH you.

"- I gave you freedom and the first thing you did was to betray me… I thought you would know better than to sleep with some- Traitor. But that's okay- I can still fix this! I can show you how much you can truly be adored…"

How sickening, to be crawling to you as if you were a deity and he was the dirty mortal trying to beg for forgiveness, and in a sense, he was!

But deep down, despite his worn-out condition and overall adoration towards you, his pathetic attempts to make amends with you are hiding his desire to take you by force and smother you with love and hate.

He wished that YOU would have been in his position, to be the one to beg for forgiveness and to come close to him willingly- To worship him and prove to him he isn't this vermin of a person who adores you but also loathes you.

"- I can give you so much, I could be so much better than she could ever be… Why don't you just listen to me, for once!" He begs you, the gagged and heavily tied down victim, to give him a crumb of your attention.

But as he notices your reluctance and clear disgust over his presence, he is sure that this isn't just his mind talking- You really do think he is a vermin! A pest poisoning your veins with each word of praise, with each trembling soft kiss and with the callused touches wherever his filthy hands get on your body.

He knows you can never love a vermin, he knows that you'll never look up to him as you looked up to Sophie. He knows he can't give you what your heart desires, he knows that even if he could give you a kid, you wouldn't be affectionate to it like you seemed to be to your "other" kid.

But even if he can't offer you a real family, he can offer you his servitude! His loyalty, his desire, his soul, his body, all of his money. All of his love, even if he doesn't have enough courage to openly say it, he feels unworthy of even saying he loves you.

1) How many works do you have on AO3?

11! :)

2) What’s your total AO3 word count?

lmfao. 985,659. That's nearly ten thesises (theses?) in the time of my PhD programme, so I'm going to just go quickly walk into the sea.

3) What fandoms do you write for?

the majority of my fic is for videogames with love interests and OC potential (BG3, Dragon Age) but I did briefly fall prey to the darklina disease, which I have to admit to here in order to answer some of the other questions

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

as best as I can, I typically clear out a previous chapter just before I post something new (so that's one way to monitor or predict my posting activity lmfao)

6) What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Lmao. Sunblindness (shadow and bone) which takes an 'eye for an eye' approach to an amnesia AU. I actually wanted to end on a major character death but my pal's response was "jesus Emma, this is something people read for fun" so I watered it down :')))))

7) What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Party Favours currently!! Happier endings incoming, IMO.

8) Do you get hate on fics?

yes, occasionally, I'm still in single digits thankfully. i always find it so funny bc nobody is more critical of my fic than me. you think you can hurt me? babygirl, we're in the 5th dimension of insults in my brain, your surface level comment barely touches the sides.

9) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

nope! call me the Astarion!spawn ending, the way I fade-to-black :')))))

10) Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I crossovered Stardust and Shadow and Bone, but it was not a straight crossover it was more a chewed up, swallowed, and digested version of both premises. I similarly wrote a Wintersmith/Shadow and Bone crossover that I never posted bc the sickness left me.

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

lol. lmfao, even. :)))))

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

I have had requests made of me and given permission for that to happen, but I do not know if it was ever posted!

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

no, it's not for me unfortunately, I was that horrible kid in group projects who just wished she could work alone :')))))))))))

14) What’s your all time favorite ship?

honestly there are many but the two that are indelibly written on my soul are Howl/Sophie and Spike/Buffy like the simple bitch I am.

In terms of things I've written? zevran/surana, hands down.

15) What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Anything I post I will eventually finish, out of social anxiety alone. At the moment I'm worried about the stuff sitting unposted in gdocs.

16) What are your writing strengths?

hahahahahahaha i don't fucking know i think i can make character voices distinct so you can usually tell which POV I'm writing from once the perspectives are established?

I have been complimented on my dialogue.

I think I'm usually brave enough to take a risky decision, even if it doesn't pay off. These decisions also land more than they used to so it's a skill I've built with time and one I am proud of.

My jokes don't seem to just be for me anymore, I like it when other people say I made them laugh.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

If there's something that can be said straightforwardly in a sentence, you know I'll say it in three paragraphs instead. I wouldn't be surprised if people think I'm a purple-prosed motherfucker.

Smut and lack thereof

the repeat of 'conversation, stage direction, eye contact, expression, repeat' is not a weakness but it is something I become intermittently self conscious of.

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I am a fan of it and I appreciate it when its done well (pour one out for Naomi Novik's fic/writing where the language work is cringingly poor), but not something I can personally do. Admirer in others, of the skills I lack.

19) First fandom you wrote for?

*dabs* Dragon Age, the OG. It was the pandemic, and I didn't want to replay Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts bc I hate timed sections, so I wrote a fic instead.

20) Favorite fic you’ve written?

I feel bad writing this on the blog that's currently 99% BG3, but The Stars Don't Shine They Burn. It was my first time plotting something that diverged greatly from source material, and I was going through some stuff at the time that I can feel viscerally when I return to it and read the words. It is a work of personalised comfort. There's one scene in it that still gets me, every single time.

I don't know, it's funny to see Pieces get attention and I'm very, very proud of Pieces, but some of what I'm thinking through in that was in its proto-form in the other fic, which is finished and I'm really proud of it... so let's see if anything comes along to bop it off the top spot once I have a critical distance and am not in the writing trenches lol.

Currently Watching: Zilch, na-da. Have been playing Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in between CP2077, which has been a nice change of pace. Aside from saving Hyrule, my favorite pastimes are foraging for ingredients and sighing every time I have to rescue a Korok. Those lil’ shits are always in trouble… But they're adorable and I love them.

Last Movie/TV Show: Errrr… I don’t remember. My brain’s largely been reserved for writing, playing video games, and procrastinating on adult responsibilities, which is why I’m very boring and I haven’t read/watched anything...

Spicy/Savory/Sweet: Spicy and savory, my favorite combo.

Relationship Status: In a relationship with an irl wizard. It’s very Howl and Sophie vibes over here.

Do you respond to comments?

Yes, both literally and figuratively. I try to write a response to everyone but I’ve noticed a pattern recently where I drop off at the end of posting because I have a hard time feeling finished and if I leave some comments unanswered, I never have to say goodbye to a story. Figuratively, comments water my crops and keep me nourished. Without them, my writing brain withers.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Probably a Mindy Project joint I wrote with @alittlenutjob where Mindy and Danny don’t end up together but Mindy and Peter do.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Probably I swallow the sound, which some people call the stroke fic. No spoilers, but the ending is one of my faves, mostly because I was able to write a joke in it that someone I deeply admire told me was Dan Levy show quality.

Do you get hate on fics?

Not so far, and let’s please not take that as an invitation lol.

Do you write smut?

Yes.

Aw, poor Mafia!Pat and accidental marriage in Vegas.

What are your writing strengths?

Emotional arcs, insight into behaviors, wit, warmth, and copious amounts of research to get details right.

What are your writing weaknesses?

My own self-doubt and quickly running out of words to describe kissing and touching. I would love to write smut in an uninhibited manner, but repression!

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

If it serves a purpose. I’ve never needed to use it, but I would.

First fandom you’ve written in?

The Mindy Project was the first I ever posted but I wrote fanfic as a kid, not knowing it was fanfic. Nor fandom lol. We shan’t speak of it.

Favourite fic you’ve written?

I would love to say they’re all my children and I can’t choose between them, but ackkkk, I don’t know. I’m happy to have produced all of them and there are none I’d take back or orphan. Some were easier to write than others. Fine! They’re all my children! Don’t make me Sophie’s Choice it!

15 Questions for 15 Mutuals

1. Are you named after anyone? My first name is just a name that my parents happen to like, but my middle name was the first name of both my grandmother and my great-grandmother! Additional fun fact about that is that my dad's middle name is also a tribute to them!

2. When was the last time you cried? I think like a month ago? Surprising because I've generally been very stressed this month but somehow haven't cried about it😅

3. Do you have kids? Nope.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? No, I've never used sarcasm in my life (she said sarcastically).

Haha. The real answer is I don't use it very much online but I definitely use it A LOT in person.

5. What sports do you play/have you played? Back in my student athlete days: swimming and field hockey. I was actually very serious about both of them for a while, which is crazy because now I never exercise at all lol. I was also a lifeguard and a swim coach for a while, so basically I HATE pools now with a passion and never go to them, not even for fun😂

I also dabbled in rec league basketball for a bit when I was a child but that was ill fated, especially considering my lack of height.

6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people? I honestly don't know. Just, like, general demeanor I guess? Whether they seem like a nice person or not? Also, their hair.

7. Scary movies or happy endings? Happy endings. I love plot twists but I am not a fan of jump scares!😂

8. Any special talents? I think I'm pretty good at memorizing things quickly. I used to do a lot of plays, and I never really had to work at memorizing my lines. It just sort of happened. I usually memorized everyone else's too without trying haha. So I was probably an annoying castmate😅

9. Where were you born? I was actually born in South Africa! My family isn't from there, but my parents happened to be there for work at the time (journalism). But then we moved back home to the US, which is where I grew up.

10. What are your hobbies? I dabble in a lot of things. Just to name the main ones though: writing, reading, piano, music analysis/criticism (in the form of a very detailed and probably crazy spreadsheet that nobody else has seen😅), watercolor, bracelet making, and hopefully very soon I'll be able to add record collecting to that list :)

11. Do you have any pets? No. I wish!

12. All-time fave piece of media? OOOF how do I choose just one???? I'm going to cheat and say three things because they've defined me equally: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band by The Beatles, The West Wing (the TV show), and Hamlet

13. Fave subject in school? English! (literature)

14. Dream job? I do not dream of labor!!!😅 For real though. I am the opposite of ambitious. I don't care what I do for a living. My dream is to win the lottery or something so I can stop working entirely and just spend my days frittering the hours away, entertaining myself with my myriad hobbies. (Guess I should start buying lottery tickets!)

15. Eye colour? Brown.
