True squid are molluscs with an elongated soft body, large eyes, eight arms, and two tentacles in the superorder Decapodiformes, though many other molluscs within the broader Neocoleoidea are also called squid despite not strictly fitting these criteria. Like all other cephalopods, squid have a distinct head, bilateral symmetry, and a mantle. They are mainly soft-bodied, like octopuses, but have a small internal skeleton in the form of a rod-like gladius or pen, made of chitin. Squid diverged from other cephalopods during the Jurassic and occupy a similar role to teleost fish as open water predators of similar size and behaviour. They play an important role in the open water food web. The two long tentacles are used to grab prey and the eight arms to hold and control it. The beak then cuts the food into suitable size chunks for swallowing. Squid are rapid swimmers, moving by jet propulsion, and largely locate their prey by sight. They are among the most intelligent of invertebrates, with groups of Humboldt squid having been observed hunting cooperatively. They are preyed on by sharks, other fish, sea birds, seals and cetaceans, particularly sperm whales.

5 Most Beautiful Seabreams of Sparidae Family
1. Annular Seabream
2. White Seabream
3. Zebra Sea Bream
4. Common two-banded Seabream
5. Sharpsnout Seabream
Seabreams are large marine fish found in the Black and Mediterranean sea. They are the members of the “Sparidae” family, belonging to the genus “Diplodus”. Apartfrom the Mediterranean sea, these fishes also present in the North-east Atlantic- from the Bay of Biscay to West Africa, including off-lying islands. Today, we will discuss five beautiful species of seabream and their characteristics.
Important Facts You Need To Know
White sea breams prefer to live on rocky and sandy bottoms in depths from 2 to 50 m. They eat seaweeds, benthic invertebrates, mollusks, crustaceans, etc. Let’s get more details of these five species and find out the similarities and differences that they possess.
1. Annular Seabream

Annular Seabream fish is scientifically known as “Diplodus annularis”, and mostly found in the port environment and on the reefs. The coloration of their body is pink or slightly purple and has bright yellow pectoral fins. Amongst five, Annual seabream is the smallest one and can reach up to 20-25 cm in length and weighs about 2-3 hectograms. One or more specimens of “sea fleas” can be found on their body and even in their oral cavity, They consume algae, mussels, etc.
2. White Seabream

White seabream or “Diplodus sargus cadenati” were found in the Canary Islands between 2000 to 2001. They can reach up to 46 to 404 mm in length and weigh more than two kg. These can live for 12 years. White seabreams are known for their widespread body along with five vertical lines and have a black spot on the caudal peduncle and a white line on the black colored ventral fins.
White sea breams are mostly found on reefs but also can live in different environments- from natural to artificial cliffs to ports to brackish areas. They are considered the largest species amongst other sea breams and difficult to catch. White seabreams feed on water plants, plankton, small crustaceans, etc.
3. Zebra Sea Bream
Tumblr media

The scientific name of the Zebra sea bream is “Diplodus cervinus”. This giant Mediterranean sea bream is 55 cm long and weighs more than 3 kg. They are known for their compressed lateral body, pointed snout, and thick lips. The color of its body is dark brown and has five to six dark black vertical bands. Zebra seabreams live in shallow and quite living areas like rocks, seabeds, slopes, wrecks, etc. They are omnivorous and feed on sea urchins, worms, plants, animal organisms.
4. Common two-banded Seabream

Common two-banded seabream is also called “Black Head” fish. It is grey-silver in color and has two wide, well defined vertical black bands and a series of thin horizontal golden lines along the body. The maximum length of this fish is 45 centimeters and can exceed half a kilo of weight. These are group fish and found mixed with greater seabreams. Common two-banded seabream lives on rocky, sandy bottoms and also in natural reefs. Its diet consists mainly of crustaceans, cephalopods, sea worms.
5. Sharpsnout Seabream

Sharpsnout seabream has other names like-Coral seabream, Sheepshead bream, Sheepshead sea bream, This fish is also scientifically known as “Diplodus Puntazzzo”. They are known for their silver-grey, oval-shaped body, conical snout, thin lips. These also have a single dorsal fin and a large black spot on the caudal peduncle. The maximum length of this fish is 60 cm. Sharp Snout seabream mostly prefers to stay over rocks and sandy bottoms of coastal surf zones. These eat crustaceans, seaweeds, and worms.
Final Words
Though all of the above-mentioned fish species belong to the same family, but, are different from each other in terms of color, size, habitats, and food habits. So, if you want to get more information about different fish species then visit our site https://www.fishwisepro.com/ and explore more.

Animal Crossing Fish - Explained #158
Brought to you by a marine biologist and deja vu...
CLICK HERE FOR THE AC FISH EXPLAINED MASTERPOST!
I have some sources that claim today’s fish - the Red Sea Bream - is just the same as the Red Snapper we have covered already. The fish sure do look the same, being a stocky, red-colored fish in the AC series. However, just because fish look the same, doesn’t mean much. IRL, these are completely different species, so, no, not deja vu.
Tumblr media
The Red Sea Bream was available in Pocket Camp for the Fishing Tourney #37 in April of 2021. It was available as part of a “sakura” theme, so all the fish involved were pink. This checks out, since irl, the Red Sea Bream is more of a pinkish color than full-on red.
The common name “red sea bream” actually applies to two fish, but thankfully both of them belong to the same Family, which is Sparidae. These fish are often known as porgies or sea breams, and they are typically laterally-compressed fish with deep bodies. They are also pretty delicious, and many species support fisheries around the world. The name red sea bream, as stated, applies to two species, but I’m willing to bet the one Animal Crossing was inspired by was Pagrus major, or madai, the species native to Japanese and Chinese waters.
Tumblr media
Madai is considered a luxury food in Japan, so explains why it appears in the game. (As you can tell, seafood is really important to Japan). In fact, madai is often specially prepared for important events or holidays, such as weddings or the Japanese New Year. Just like anything considered top-notch cuisine, there are a ton of ways to cook it...or not. This fish is readily served raw in sushi and as sashimi.
Now, I just love it when AC picks fish for their events that actually correspond with the seasonality of the fish. Madai actually do move into shallower water during the Spring when they spawn, so having them in Pocket Camp in April was a good call. Madai also really don’t care much about where they live, having been found to live on hard bottoms, like rocks and reefs, as much as soft bottoms, like sand and mud. Only their juveniles seem to be hard-wired to seek out stable environments until they are 30 days old when they promptly stop caring where they live. Strange? Maybe. But since madai are doing well despite supporting lucrative fisheries, perhaps their lack of habitat preference helps them to spread their numbers anywhere.
And there you have it. Fascinating stuff, no?

🐟 Madai Snapper (Sea Bream) from Miyabi Tai Japan
Madai is known as the “True Seabream” or “Genuine Tai” a testament to its prestige as the best eating of all the Bream varieties from the Sparidae family making it extremely popular in Japan and is prized for its flavour. It has a firm, flaky, mild flavoured flesh that can be seared, broiled or grilled.

⭕ L’orata è disponibile tutto l’anno
