I suppose a brief introduction is order!

We’re the Katabasis Collective, and we’re a fictive-heavy system with 40+ members. Realistically 10-15 see the light of day, but I digress.

While we’re bodily 34 and don’t ‘feel’ old, we’re very Millennial and Tumblr illiterate (sorry!)

Many of us had close friends who were not shown or named in canon. If you remember us in any capacity, please don’t hesitate to reach out! While we’re hesitant to immediately say “ah yes we knew you!” we enjoy communicating with our source mates regardless! Doubles are fine, and I believe only Emet-Selch (FFXIV) and Rodney (Atlantis) are doubles squeamish. They’ll live, though! They’re not even the ones who admit to wanting friends. ;) We do, frequently, have a handful of head mates per source, so if you& do have an issue with doubles, please let us know. Either we can go our separate ways, or we’ll keep that specific individual away from you and yours.

yeah so I don't generally do this asking on anon for positivity from random kin help blogs thing. I did when I was a teenager but like. for the most part I just don't see a need for it anymore. but ye gods, man. new source media that's coming out is doing my people fucking DIRTY after bringing us back in the worst possible way and I just know this is going to have repercussions long-term for how we're seen in the fandom, because like, have you MET Trekkies, they're fucking insane.

hello, anonymous asker. there's truly no shame in asking for help, even if you're much older than the last time you did it. i myself am old and the body i reside in is over 25 - we still need help from these sorts of blog sometimes. they aren't just for teens.

anyway, i am sorry to hear about how your source media's brought back your species and portray them with no nuance. i've met a few Trekkies - a fandom that huge is bound to have some strong opinions. so i sympathize with you, and i can somewhat relate with the vilification as well. (i'm a seadweller troll, the Homestuck kind.)

it's perfectly okay to struggle with the demonization of your species in your source media. it sucks to have the worst of your people shown and not the other, less cartoon-villainy aspects. you don't have to be okay with it, and you're allowed to feel and express your struggles, even if those emotions are all negative.

i wish people wouldn't judge you as a person by your species - that kind of rationale is just like bigotry. i think you deserve better than people who'd avoid you for your species, or ask intrusive questions or harass you because they've decided your species is too evil to be treated with respect.

being a changeling is okay and good. it doesn't make you inherently evil. it makes up who you are and you shouldn't have to censor that part of yourself, much less "extract" it out.
