Dance the night away

In July I went dancing with my friends! I don't go out like that often, but when I do I enjoy myself a lot. We went to a goth club called "Fledermaus" (=bat), which is just a very chill and cool place!!

I like how ethereal this pictures came out - no sharpness and clear focus. They show the energy of the night, the fleetingness and transience. I'm in a liminal space, between the reality of the day and the dreams you have at night!

Music Shill of the Day: Leinen Los by Subway to Sally

Welcome back to some German folk metal.

Subway to Sally isn't a band I've listened to a lot, but this will probably change in the near future. I've heard their collaborations with Saltatio Mortis on IX (Superior to the original, fight me) and their cover of Sie tanzt allein, which I both love to death, but I never really enjoyed the vocalist too much.

For some reason, this song is different. I think one of my biggest qualms was this sort of... not sure how to describe it in words, kind of nasally quality to it? It threw me off a bit, despite me absolutely LOVING the way they handle the musicality of their instrumentals. I love me some good folk metal, and MAN these guys are great.

Strings, horns, I think a hurdy gurdy in there, guitars, very enthusiastic drumming, it's all there and it's fantastic. It's much more metal oriented, in my opinion, than something like Feuerschwanz -- whom I also adore, alongside Hodi's side project of d'Artagnan -- which is really awesome. They don't have the kinda poppy... 90s? I guess? skateboarder/surfer vibe of Saltatio Mortis, it kinda feels like you take some classic heavy metal and sprinkle in some damn good folk elements to it.

It's really good! And I'm regretting on sleeping on these guys for so long.

Honorary shill for Was ihr wollt, which is also a banger and a half. But Leinen los is just a bit higher for me at the moment, and definitely deserves the listen.

Both do but.

Subway to Sally - Himmelfahrt - Himmelfahrt (18.05.2023) - Hanover

What can I say? They still have a special place in my heart even though they sound the same almost all the time. I was not that hyped as the new LP didn’t hook me like the one before but they had a very good set list that helped with it a lot. It was the first time I got front row for one of their concerts though.

Funfact: my first concert was actually the same band but ... in 2006. Yes I have been listening their stuff since 2006, I think it was 2005 even. I am aware we have people on this site who are born in that year :’)

Imagine you are vibing at the concert, the lights go out at the end of a song but the next moment the lights flicker behind you, you turn around and she stands there illuminated like a goddess on a small podium 

That was fun. You are in the back of the concert crowd and suddenly you are in the front. They did that three times for solo instrumental songs. One time with her, one time with the guitarist and at the end with the main singer (who played backpipe for that part).
