A definitive ranking of the opening theme songs from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
5. "Rain" by SID, the last theme song used in the series. It's a ballad and it's a bummer. Fails to capture the emotional weight and WTFness of the final arc.
4. "Hologram" by NICO Touches the Walls, the 2nd theme song in the series. It's a fairly generic opening theme, somewhat punchy and upbeat with its pop rock vocals and chunky guitar riffs, but fails to capture the personality of the series as a whole.
3. "Period" by Chemistry, the 4th song in the series. Like "Hologram" it falls within "generic theme song" genre, but it's got soaring vocals and a catchy hook. It's the one I found most often stuck in my head.
2. "Golden Time Lover" by SUKIMASWITCH, the third theme song. This song has a kinetic energy and verve that matches the show, particularly the show arc it covers. The vocalist sings with anger and conviction; I could easily imagine this song sung from Ed's POV.
1. "Again" by YUI, the first theme song. Why mess with perfection? This song captures the essence of the show and the perspective of the brothers, particularly Al. Thematically it hits close to the heart of the show. This song is about moving forward despite your mistakes and regrets, while the show is about 2 brothers grieving their family and atoning for their mistakes. And musically? It's a banger.
