Let me just commentate on Disney Twisted Wonderland's 🐚🩵Octavinelle Chapter🩵🐚
[SPOILER WARNING] for the people who haven't read the manga!

Tumblr media
OH MY GOD LOOK THEY'RE SO BEAUTIFUL
Tumblr media
Welcome to the Twisted Wonderland, Mito Yuuta!!!🩶
Tumblr media
FUCK—uh, no wait, I'll never simp for a professor, especially if they're good looking (me when I lie)
Tumblr media
OOOOH JADE EEL MY SCRUNKLY CUTIE PATOOTIE🥺🫶🏻🩵‼️‼️‼️
Tumblr media
Oh, he's a bit fucked up actually😁
Tumblr media
Here comes Sir Azul "dramatic octopi mafia" Ashengrotto🙌🙌🙌
Tumblr media
Oh well, that did scare me a lil (lie)
Oh, wait. Did he say my boy??
Tumblr media
HE'S HEEEEEEEEEEEREEEE THE EEL 2.0 (His character grew up in me, I started to love the tweels as time goes on)
Tumblr media
THE OCTAVINELLE ARC SAGA IS STILL ONGOING AND I CAN'T WAIT HOW IT WILL TURN OUT!!! One thing I just noticed on how Yuuta's character (and Yuuken) is talkative and kind of making their screen time much more worthwhile with their dialogues. I guess it's the thing with Kowono Sumire doesn't want the MC/Yuus just standing in the middle of chaos and doing nothing. I am not belittling Oda Suzuka's Yuuka or Yuuya in the Novel. Every Yuus has their own personality, sure, and I respect it. Not all Yuus in official TWST media are canon, it's preferable to the players or fans how they take MC/Yuu. And I guess that's how I prefer Kowono Sumire's Yuus all of this time in TWST's official media. Sorry if it turned out rude or disrespectful!🙏🏻

I love how the episode of Octavinelle lets Leona make expressive and ugly faces; Savanaclaw seemed to say he was to pretty to make appropriately unhinged expressions for a dude who’s overblotting
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are two images of Leona to illustrate what Anon is referring to! I've also included examples featuring Azul. The left images come from the Episode of Octavinelle, which is illustrated by Kowono Sumire. The right images are from the Episode of Savanaclaw, which is illustrated by Suzuka Oda. As you can see, each mangaka has their own unique way of drawing and presenting the TWST characters (and, in this case, Leona and Azul).
I've seen similar comments floating around about the expressions in the Episode of Savanaclaw; the characters, and Leona in particular, don't seem to have as wide of a range as the other Episodes. There seems to be more of a focus on keeping the characters pretty and "same faced", for lack of a better term, rather than experimenting with a variety of exaggerated emotions. When you consider the background of the two mangaka working on Savanaclaw and Octavinelle, this observation makes more sense. Kowono-san, who has worked on Heartslabyul and Octavinelle, is one of Yana's assistants. She therefore has more experience with more... creative, shall we say, expressions, even if some come off as unattractive. She didn't have to make Azul this unhinged when having a contract signed, she just decided to make it like that. She didn't have to show Leona's full displeasure like that. But Yana and her team have never been shy about making ugly faces so long as it conveys the desired feeling or conveys the right character.
Meanwhile, Suzuka-san's previous manga, Pretty Boy Detective Club, is more of your traditional manga (if we're just strictly talking about the faces they make) with, of course, tons of pretty boys. It follows that Suzuka-san's style, then, makes the boys look flattering no matter how they may be feeling. That's very clear in the love and care she puts into drawing everyone's flowing hair and long lashes!!
There's nothing wrong with the Episode of Savanaclaw's style in a vacuum. Suzuka Oda definitely has her own strengths and creates beautiful artwork, I'd just say it isn't always "fitting" for certain scenes (especially TWST's angsty or super emotional ones).

Change of style?
𖤐Hello everyone Kuronians𖤐
Today I would like to talk with you about these two different styles that we found in Black Butler. We all noticed a little bit that there was a period when Yanuzza " changed style" but...what if there was a more sensible explanation behind that?
Tumblr media
In the picture above we can see two Sebastian: the one on the right is the typical Sebastian we imagine, very manly and with his usual dominant aura.
On the left, on the other hand, we have a more "cute" Sebastian who is less masculine and certainly, compared to the first one, less detailed.
Behind this somewhat unusual "change of style" is a really interesting answer. A collaborator very close to Yanuzza (I suppose the one who has the honor of drawing the main characters when she doesn't have time) long ago went out on his own, making his own manga.
What does that have to do with anything?
By making her own manga (by the way, the main male character is really very similar to Sebastian👀) maybe she will not have had time to keep up with Yanuzza's hectic pace, since she has to bring a new chapter to G-fantas magazine every month, and that is precisely why the author of Black Butler will have thought of yet another diabolical plan.
Sumire Kowono
Since she was already collaborating with Kowono on the TW episode of Heartslabyul manga at that time, she must surely have proposed to the Queen of Hearts dormitory mangaka to collaborate with her on Black Butler.
For this very reason, the drawing of Sebastian that we saw on the left was not drawn by Yanuzza but by Kowono!
How can we tell?
Kowono's style, as can be seen from the Heartslabyul manga, is very cute just like the Sebastian we saw previously. The second reason, why he was the one who drew our beautiful demon, can always be understood from the manga i.e... the nose!
Tumblr media
In addition to the very similar style to the Sebastian on the left, unlike Yanuzza who draws the nose, Kowono only hints at it with dots. To conclude, in the credits at the end of the Black Butler volume you can find Kowono's name!
Conclusion
Apparently, Sumire Kowono has joined the Black Butler team with our Yanuzza.

Saw all the cool (?) kids doing this on booktube for their 2023 reading, and while I don't think a tiermaker style chart is quite right for comparing some of these books (like how am I supposed to compare The Haunting of Hill House with like. How to Resist Amazon and Why?)
Anyways, S tier is my personal biases, just my absolute faves of the year, no notes. A tier is very good, would recommend to basically any reader without caveats. B tier is "If you're really into this type of thing or have the necessary historiographical context and use your critical thinking skills (as relevant), solid read, worth your time". C tier is like. I've read much worse, but honestly disappointing, though there were at least a few redeeming qualities. D tier is no, definitely skip.
I'm still figuring out how well storygraph works to non-users, but if you're curious to see any further details on these books: https://app.thestorygraph.com/profile/ovvlish
Titles and authors in the order they appear, because the images are small. For the manga, some I started this year, others are ongoing reads for me, and I only included one volume of each. All told it was 65 books, so you can see I read a lot of tankubon!

twst manga bonus illustrations
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These illustrations come to us from Kowono Sumire and Suzuka Oda, the mangaka for the Episode of Heartslabyul and the Episode of Savanaclaw, respectively. They were done to commemorate the release of book 4 + 3 of the Episode of Heartslabyul and book 1 of the Episode of Savanaclaw. I wonder if there will be similar illustrations to celebrate future installments of the Twisted Wonderland manga?
