Sigur Rós - "Svefn-g-englar"
From the album Mojo Presents Kidology
Last song scrobbled from iTunes at Last.fm
"A Radiohead companion" given away with Mojo's December 2020 issue. Not a huge fan of the band, but it seems that I like their antecedents--except maybe for Sigur Rós.
ah it wasn't my best concert, it kinda lacked the proper mood at the beginning, but the ending was perfect, everybody just got up and rushed to the stage and then jónsi did festival and i ascended
Svefn-g-englar is one of my favourite songs and ever since playing Death Stranding its all i think about everytime i listen to that song (or well.. any song from the band).
it just captures the atmosphere of Death Stranding so perfectly its kinda ridiculous.
also not to mention that the lyrics are literally made for Lou
(the song is about birth/a child in a womb)
and I saw some sites/sources saying that "tjú" is a sound that icelanders make to comfort babies, but some contradict it so im not sure if its true (but i really hope it is)
Sigur Ros being my favourite band and Death Stranding my favourite game just cant be a coincidence, they harmonize a bit too well and I saw some people say this online too which makes me SO happy because yes. Im glad im not the only one.
as i struggle to think of anything in 30° heat i humbly present to you my ask <3
what‘s your favourite non-english language song? and what’s a language you’d like to listen to music in but haven’t yet?
ahhhhhh nooooo the curses of summer it was like 27 here today but tommorow it's gonna rain ✨aotearoa✨
ooh i used to listen to a lot of non english music - some i really like are svefn-g-englar and untitled #4 - njósnavélin by sigur ròs, both of which might be in icelandic or might be glossolalia i can't remember. also stella maris by einstürzende neubauten, which is in german
a language i haven;t ever really listened to is any of french, only a few songs here and there...
ooooh and honourable mention to all the marlon williams songs with some te reo māori in them, he's releasing an album all in te reo ( i think) nest year ( I think) which i'm super excited to hear!
I made a fetus? 🤣 i drastically made this decision thinking it would suit my desert themed costume more, i just couldn’t stop thinking how heart warming it would look for the wings to cover the baby up to protect it, to keep it warm.
I made what it looks like a flower or a brain on the embryos head, symbolising the light, the soul, the new beginning in contrast of death and decay. Making this decoration piece i realised it’s exactly what I’ve been trying to say, to tell the story of what death and birth means and what the end and the new beginning actually is…because so far I’ve only made decorations of parasites, decomposition, new ecosystems, and growth from it like flowers and fungi, it’s all abit too philosophical, but a new human being in the purest form is the key to contrast what I’ve made so far.
