Ignore this post, my HoTD moots, this is going to be a long post you don't care about.
it's PJO/HoO rant time.
What can I say, Tumblr brings me back to the simpler times of 2016.
Y'all baby Frank too much. Like. Way too much.
Leo was a dick at times, no doubt. But I think y'all forget Frank was absolutely being antagonistic because he was paranoid over Leo looking like Hazel's ex. You can argue it's because Leo fired on New Rome, but Frank himself counters that claim and Leo is initially grateful Frank didn't blame him.
Tumblr media
Frank was also the first one to bring up Sammy, not Hazel, just before that. Later, all before Leo says anything against Frank, Piper thinks Frank's behavior is because it seems like Leo and Hazel had a history. This is a longer bit of a book scene, but I feel like it gets ignored.
Tumblr media
This is still before Leo says anything against Frank. I will be saying that a number of more times. Leo just complimented his ability and Frank responds with a pretty catty comment about Leo's physical abilities. You can see the difference in how he reacts even more clearly in a scene before, when Hazel is commenting on Frank turning into a dragon
Tumblr media
Frank doesn't counter the idea to become a dragon, he just has an issue with leaving Hazel with Leo. Leo again, so far, isn't upset with Frank. He wants to prove he's trustworthy.
When Piper does her fun little exorcism on the lads, this happens. I have to say yet again. Leo has not insulted Frank at this point. Not a huge issue, Frank was a bit shaken up, but it was still kind of a dick move to just. Let him hit the dirt. I'll excuse it because it is very funny.
Tumblr media
Later when they find out about Nico, this scene below happens. Leo has still not said anything against Frank at this point - Jason even agrees repeatedly with Leo, but Frank only glares at Leo.
Tumblr media
After this, when Hazel is upset and leaves, Leo starts to likely say he should go apologize, but Frank cuts him off saying, "you've done enough."
We're a few hundred pages through the book now at this point. Frank has insulted Leo, he doesn't trust him, doesn't want Hazel around him, singles him out, and literally let him fall to the ground. Leo has not said anything against him yet.
Even Percy notes that Frank's mood is tied to his relationship with Hazel, and Leo seemingly threatening that.
Tumblr media
(and for those who are curious - baleful means threateningly, or to wish harm)
This is when, after a good chunk into the novel, we reach Leo's first dig at Frank.
Tumblr media
Then ~the iguana incident~ comes not long after, but if you're going to call this Leo bullying him, you'd have to include... Everyone. Since they literally all laughed at Frank turning into a lizard to get out of the finger trap. Hazel, Percy, Annabeth, everyone. Not a fun moment for Frank, I sympathize with him there, but I wouldn't personally call this pointed bullying. You may disagree but I do not think at the very least that Riordan intended it to be seen as bullying. This is followed by Leo sending Frank's dirty laundry out on Buford for awhile (though he does claim that it would be cleaned and returned to him, eventually we do learn the laundry is lost. This was not a planned thing by Leo, and I don't understand why this is characterized by some people as him purposely throwing away Frank's clothes.)
All this eventually leads to this exchange.
Tumblr media
Gee, I don't know, Frank. Maybe because you keep glaring at him anytime you're around him to the point even Percy was like oh boy I got to get him off the ship before he folds Leo like a pretzel.
Later, Frank actually helps save Leo in eagle form, but ends up injured in the process - and drops Leo. I really don't think Frank meant to drop him, but Leo thinks Frank dropped him on purpose. That's kind of a big thing, even though it's a minor line.
Tumblr media
Then, Frank is back to being untrusting of Leo. He's glowering, glaring, and again - doesn't want to leave Leo with Hazel.
When Hazel is alone with Leo, she finally takes the time to defend Frank.
Tumblr media
So, clearly, Frank scares Leo.
Leo scares Frank.
It's a fun horrible little wicked web! It's almost like the author intended them to buttheads! Shocking!
I've run out of pictures to add!
I could and probably will continue this nonsense, but the general point of this rant is Frank is not just some totally sweet big guy who has never done anything wrong in his entire life, and characterizing him as such just makes him boring. He's self conscious, insecure, and lashes out at- boy, doesn't that sound familiar. Anyway.
He was kind of a dick to Leo, and Leo was kind of a dick to him in turn.
I'm pretty sure I had a better ending for this originally, that summed everything up, but now I'm distracted and just bitter they didn't kiss.
I didn't even have time to reach their interactions underwater.

In defense of Stella, aka why the abusive owl milf is the best character in helluva boss
Tumblr media
I think helluva boss is poorly written but not in the way most anti helluva boss “vivziepop breathed in the wrong direction she should kill herself” people think it is. I don’t think it’s edgy enough, as in the show is meant to be edgy but no one on the writing team has the balls to actually do anything that could actually upset people. They are allowed to swear and be a little catty but nothing actually controversial happens. They can’t be really bad people or do fucked up shit for the joke.
“Well in my helluva boss re-write the characters are allowed to be ba-“ I doubt they are. I truly believe that a most people who call themselves “helluva boss critical” are not really equipped to write a helluva boss re-write because they don’t know how to write “offensive” jokes. Because they can’t handle this neutered ass show, helluva boss is first and foremost a comedy, not a drama.
“I can make the re-write better” I hear you say “in my au Stolas is the evil bad guy and Stella is an innocent angel who did nothing wrong” congrats you’re doing it wrong. Stella is the funniest character in the show because she just sucks as a person. By being a 1 dimensional villian she is allowed to be an awful person in a funny way. The writers obviously don’t want the audience to sympathize with Stella so she is allowed to unabashedly be a bad person without having to be written as “forgivable” and she is better off for it.
And that’s what makes her great. She is the best girl not in spite of being a one dimensional villain but because of it.
(Also she kinda just hot but you didn’t hear it from me)

What are different ways you can write a bully character?
It depends on 1) whether they're the main character or not and 2) what you're trying to accomplish with the character.
If they're the main character/point of view character, you need to give us a good reason for them to be a bully while also giving us a good reason to sympathize with them. Your main character doesn't need to be a good person, but they should be someone that the reader can connect with enough to keep reading.
There are a lot of reasons why a character might lash out and target people. Depression, anxiety, and PTSD (along with other mental health issues and trauma responses) can cause anger and impulsiveness that can lead to bullying. That's not to say all bullies have mental health issues, but that it is a thought process you can work your character through if that is the situation.
Alternatively, they can be a mean, capricious, jealous, or otherwise angry person who dislikes people for any number of reasons.
The stereotype of bullies is that they're facing bad things at home and so taking it out on the people around them. That definitely happens. But bullies tends to take it out people who are socially marginalized--people who are poor, queer, disabled, immigrants, non-Christian, POC, have facial or other deformities, etc. It may be because of outright overt bigotry, it may be because of a desire to express power over others, it may be because of a societal push for conformity.
Bullying can take a lot of forms. The stereotype is that it's physical bullying (shoving, hitting, beating someone), which stereotypically tends towards being committed by boys against boys but is also committed by girls against each other or across genders. There is also sexual bullying (either sexual harassment/coercion or shaming of a person for their sexual activity), blackmail or release of damaging information, name calling/teasing, stealing of possessions, shunning, etc.
There's a tendency in YA and romance novels, especially set in high school or college, to have That Mean Girl who bullies the main character for being relationship/sexual competition. They're catty and sexually aggressive towards the male love interest (who doesn't welcome the sexual advances), and their response to the sexual competition is severely out of proportion with what's going on. Maybe don't write that, if you can avoid it. There's almost no way to write it that isn't misogynistic.

The Winter Spirits: Ghostly Tales for Festive Nights - 5/5 stars
I bought this solely for the Natasha Pulley story, "The Salt Miracles," (I WOULD READ A WHOLE BOOK ABOUT FLINT AND THE SAINT, MX PULLEY), but every story was really good. My kind of spooky.
Seriously though, I wanted so much more of "The Salt Miracles." How was it a queer love story despite not being a love story or queer? God I love Natasha Pulley.
Henry Hamlet's Heart by Rhiannon Wilde - 5/5 stars
Really lovely YA romance set in Australia. The yearning is impeccable. Also, I hate myself for saying this, but it's historical fiction—it's set in 2008.
Handmade Holidays by 'Nathan Burgoine - 3.5/5 stars
Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin - 4/5 stars
Not an easy read. The main character, David, is despicable, but in large part because he lives in a society that expects rigid adherence to gender roles. One thing I found really interesting was repeated emphasis on the fact that David won't act, he waits for someone else to do it for him—he acknowledges that if Joey had asked him to stay, he would have, that if Giovanni had asked him to stay, he would have. And then Hella tells him that as a woman, she has to wait for men to tell her things, but David doesn't tell her he's gay, he waits for her to figure it out herself. Hella makes this into an explicitly gendered dichotomy, which is interesting with David constantly fretting about not being a man because of his queerness.
Queer classic, people should read.
Merry & Bright by Joanna Chambers - 5/5 stars
They Hate Each Other by Amanda Woody - DNF at pg 2
Contained the following absolutely baffling author's note, which I quickly became so resentful of that I stopped reading.
Tumblr media
Against the Stars by Christopher Hartland - 4.25/5 stars
Near-future sci-fi where everyone gets one 44 second look into their future. Fairly dark for YA. Also thematically relevant to my MCU fic.
Mistletoe & Mishigas by MA Wardell - 4.25/5 stars
This book was lovely. I loved Theo so much. Sheldon is very annoying but also very lovable. And it's nice to read a Hanukkah romance!
Haunted Hearts by K Sterling - DNF at pg 2
Did anyone edit this?
The Bruising of Qilwa by Naseem Jamnia - DNF at pg 21
Wanted to like this one but it just wasn't very well written. You ever read books where it's obvious the author spent too much time on their wOrlDbuILdiNg to the exclusion of actually writing a good book? Yeah.
Between Shadow and Flame by CT Bryce - DNF at 26
Editors? Hello?? Seriously, I feel like people are writing manuscripts on their phones and uploading them directly to Amazon from there.
The Power of the Dog by Thomas Savage - 4.5/5 stars
Oddly I found this to be not as difficult of a read as Giovanni's Room, in my private game of Ranking Queer Classics Against Each Other. Obviously Phil is an awful man, but in the end I felt bad for him, tbh. Phil is like, a really catty twink wrapped in layers of toxic masculinity and repressed homosexuality. And then Peter is a sociopath. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to sympathize with Peter? I didn't think I was, but then I scanned Annie Proulx's afterword and it seemed like she thought we were supposed to? Obviously you feel worst for all the people Phil just heedlessly tears to ribbons because he's a maladjusted asshole. I think the thing is, there were just enough glimmers where Phil acts like a human being that I was like, maybe you can be saved! Ah, tragedy.
Anyway, good book, 10/10 would recommend. (and no, I haven't seen the movie)

Trimax spoilers the Knives sympathizer in me is acting up again
Concept:
Trimax knives gets a second chance at life via time travel. He wakes up on ship 5, the way he was then, a short while before they meet conrad. He’s essentially a kid trying to convince himself it was a uniquely intense anxiety dream. Some wild fantasy he’s conjured up in his mind. Then tesla happens again, but after everything he can’t make himself go down the same path.
Here’s the thing though- other plants are at least semi-aware of this. They know. Vash, on some level, knows something. At least subconsciously. Something something ghosts/the supernatural/etc are real in this universe and plants are directly connected to it so they just. Know.
Debating between this being a seriously overthought butterfly effect type thing or just Knives but recovering from his trauma this time. I want room to get silly with it. See him coexist with other people in a way that isn’t hostile. I think he’d be charming, honestly. Then again, he already is, and that’s the problem, so maybe just that with less manipulation and bloodlust.
I like the idea that he just ends up really catty about humans instead. He knows he could wipe them out should he want to so he’s just. Rude. Instead of being scared of them. Or maybe he’s scared of rejection again…? Food for thought.
It’s just undertale resets but trigun, and baby i am selecting knives as our player character

If Nanako and Nobara were to meet/interact in your fics (meaning if you were to write it, not that you need to/it’s gonna happen since it’s your story and all), how would you write their interactions?
Would they instantly click with each other? Or would they at first be hostile? Would they be best buddies?
I have a lot of thoughts on how Nobara and Nanako might interact, I will try to present them in a semi-coherent fashion, nonny.
First, Nobara is shown to form deep friendships with other girls. Her chemistry when interacting with Maki is instant. Her entire desire to go into the city in the first place is to see Saori again, plus the bullying of Saori made her hate the countryside. She had a longtime friendship with a girl at her school who had a much more timid demeanor than her so it's not like Nobara is catty or rude to other girls.
That being said, I have noticed two things one Nobara does not tend to get along with people who are too similiar to her. Maki when Nobara meets her is a lot calmer and more mature then Jujutsu Kaisen Zero Maki who had the same kind of brash attitude. In fact Maki and Nobara are similiar on the surface but I would say Nobara is high emotion and Maki spends most of her time repressing her real feelings. If you want a truly loud and abrasive person Nobara interacts with, then that's Mai, and the two of them don't get along because they are almost too similiar so they butt heads.
Nobara also is a bit of a self righteous person, she is choosey of the people she wants to be friends with, or sympathizes with. The fact that Nanako is a curse user who has hurt innocent people is something Nobara would look down upon slash disapprove of, and Nobara doesn't really care that much about whether or not Nanako has sympathetic reasons or circumstances.
Tumblr media
Nanako is essentially someone stuck in the cycle of cursing the fortunate, because one her trauma is that bad, and two the man who raised her Geto gave her a convenient scapegoat in non-sorcerers to blame for what happened to her.
I imagine because of these reasons they would at first be hostile. Ironically, I think Mai would get along with both NanaMimiko because she hates being a sorcerer so she wouldn't see them as curse users. Despite being alligned with Geto's family, they are in every other way normal teenage girls. Nobara however, cannot see that yet so if they were to interact I think Nobara would have to learn to see the world in a more complex way.
When Nanako was being harmed by non-sorcers, she killed Non-Sorcerers to try to be strong, and protect the only family she knew in Mimiko and Geto. She's not in that situation anymore, her and Nanako are alone, and they are also Nobara's exact same age but they have lived a different more unfortunate life. Nobara post character development, would be able to use that strong sense of righteousness she has in a more balanced way, to realize the world did something wrong to Nanako and that's why she's acting that way but she can still grow into a better person.
I think just like Mai if Nobara could let go of her pre-conceptions she'd realize that Nanako is just a normal teenage girl, and one extremely similiar to her. Then, I think whatever fighting they would have would just be kind of razzing between friends. One thing is I think Nobara kind of enjoys being loud, pushing people around, Nanako is that exact same person towards Mimiko. So, them doing that at each other, they'd basically get to be their loud, bossy selves, but without fear of stepping all over someone else's feelings because if Nobara or Nanako have their feelings hurt they will just loudly tell you. I think it would be fun to have Nobara have a friend who is equally as loud, and extroverted as she is, because while I see Nobara and Mai as similiar, Mai is actually putting on a fake bad girl act and is extremely introverted and sulky. Nobara could say one wrong thing to her and Mai would like, brood about it all day. Whereas if Nobara says something wrong to Nanako, it immediately turns into a fist fight, and then they get over it and go eat crepes together. It'd also be good for Nanako too, because Mimiko is already trying to make friends outside of their family and Nanako needs to work on developing an identity seperate from Mimiko too.
Also, my ideal ending for my alternate universe fic is that if Jujutsu High is still standing by the end of the story, Junpei, Nanako and Mimiko will all find their way back to Jujutsu High and be attending as students in a reformed Jujutsu World.

While I’m thinking of dream adaptations, some details about my ideal adaptation of Pride and Prejudice:
The tone is lighthearted, with an undercurrent of seriousness.
The 20-something characters are all played by 20-something actors, the teen characters by mid-to-late-teen actors, and Mrs Gardiner by a 30-something actress; the others should be in their 40s or 50s, depending.
Jane is noticeably heavier and more beautiful than Elizabeth, who in turn is mildly pretty; Wickham is staggeringly pretty, and Darcy is very classically handsome and tall.
It’s set in the mid- to late-1790s. Some concessions to modern sensibilities are fine, but that’s the general aesthetic.
Elizabeth’s demeanour is usually lively and courteous, with a slight sweetness that makes it easy to see why she’s so generally liked.
LET. DARCY. SMILE.
(not tight polite little smiles, either; Elizabeth identifies the smile in his painting, done when his beloved father was alive, as the same one he used to direct at her—we should be able to tell that he likes being around her)
coffee scene coffee scene coffee scene
Georgiana a) is not small and delicate, b) is deeply shy and anxious, and c) is aware that Darcy likes Elizabeth, but no more than that. Her manner towards Darcy is both deferential and affectionate, while he’s both protective and encouraging towards her.
Mrs Bennet is neither the lone voice of reason nor a shrieking caricature.
Lady Catherine is also not a caricature (there might be a touch of sympathize-able bitterness to her saying that daughters never matter much to their fathers), though very funny at points.
We feel Mr Bennet’s quirky charm, but it also doesn’t shy away from his essential failures.
Pemberley should be grand and idyllic but not ornate—a very clear step up from Longbourn and Netherfield, but not a palace by any means. We see that Darcy has Georgiana’s crayon drawings stuck with his art collections.
We’d get some of the moments when Darcy talks affectionately of Georgiana, as Elizabeth remembers later.
It would focus on Elizabeth’s character arc above all else, with the central turning point being her response to Darcy’s proposal and then to his letter. We rarely if ever see Darcy where he doesn’t appear in the novel, though Darcy/Elizabeth remains the core dynamic of the story.
Bingley isn’t an intellectual giant, but he’s not stupid or vacuous, and has a lot of personal charm.
The Bingley sisters can be catty, but when they have their good manners on, they seem pleasant enough—not saccharine.
Jane is very sweetly and graciously stubborn.
Justice for Elizabeth’s parasol and watch!!
It’s my dream adaptation, so we actually get some of the engagement scenes (with Elizabeth writing her ‘Jane only smiles, I laugh’ letter) and conclude with the Darcys and Gardiners at Pemberley.
Consequently, the Gardiners would need to be fairly important characters—we’d build up to them actually appearing.
tbh it would be hilarious if we got whatever random people went on to Mrs Gardiner about how hot Darcy is.
It’s not necessary, but I would be really entertained by inclusion of Darcy’s smug gardener + Darcy and Mr Gardiner geeking out over a plant.
Darcy is fully dressed at all times. He is neither shy nor brooding.
Mary’s obnoxiousness isn’t dialed down—she’s not just a tragically underappreciated geek.
We wouldn’t soft-coat Lydia’s personality (she’s still grating, short-sighted, and selfish), but we’d definitely feel how screwed-up her fate is.
Charlotte’s is appalling in its own way, but not a grand tragedy, and Charlotte herself is clearly intelligent and perceptive.

Hey, I just started watching MLB and I'm done with seasons 1-3. I know that most of the characters have done something bad (none of them are saints) but for some reason, I can't seem to like Chloe at all. I like Marinette, Adrien, and other charcters despite some of their actions but Chloe has gotten on my nerves since day one.
First, she has little to no redeeming qualities. With other characters, there are at least some things I like about them whether they're heroes, villains, or somewhere in between. Chloe however, is nothing but bratty, catty, whiny, entitled, selfish, and narcissistic. She even mistreated the characters she's supposed to be close to (Sabrina) for no reason yet they still treat her kindly.
As for Queen Bee...ha! More like Queen B*tch. She found a miraculous that Ladybug lost during a battle and decided to use it to prove that she's "exceptional". She purposely endangered people's lives for recognition and when she was confronted about it, she said " Who cares? We saved them didn't we." I'm...what?!
Then in Malikditator (however it's spelled), she left school after getting embarrassed during her presentation which was her fault since she impersonated a hero for recognition. Then was given the Bee miraculous because Marinette wanted to give her a chance (And she put Adrien's feelings above everyone else's including her own). The issue here is that Chloe shouldn't have gotten a miraculous after that episode because she didn't feel any remorse for putting people in danger and no amount of tears can justify that. And the fact that the same people she severely bullied threw a party for her when she didn't even care about them is baffling.
The episode that made me officially turned off from Chloe entirely was the Zombizou episode. After sabotaging Marinette's gift out if spite, she caused Ms. Bustier to get akumatized and was disgusting towards the entire class. In the episode, the entire class protected her despite not liking her and what does she do? She continues to be disrespectful towards them and remains ungrateful. She never apologized to the class for getting them zombified.
I also hate how Chloe sacrificing herself for Ladybug was seen as heroic when it wasn't impactful as it could've been. She already had respect and admiration for Ladybug at the time so it would've been better if she sacrificed herself for one of her peers out of guilt. Another thing that annoyed me was her apology to Ms. Bustier. On one hand, yes she should apologize for being wrong but there's was no one else to see that apology which didn't cause much of a difference. It was the BARE FREAKING MINIMUM compared to everything else she did in that one episode.
I also dislike how they gave Chloe the typical sad backstory for a lot of bully characters. I don't have an issue with her having an explanation for her behavior but they chose the most stereotypical trope. These troupes are usually done to make us sympathize with the bully without having them fix their behavior.
Overall, Chloe is probably my least favorite character next to Gabriel. If you like her I'm sorry If this hurt you to read but I can't stand her.
Oh sweet summer child, you've come to the right place cuz I can't stand Chloe.

How seriously do you take SNS fics that have a lot of InoSaku in it? I personally feel like it's an insult to the fandom because parallels are always drawn between SNS and InoSaku in them, when in canon, Ino and Sakura are very straight fangirls of a very indifferent gay boy. It's ridiculous. SNS in comparison with InoSaku? Something that doesn't even exist and is merely a projection of some Sakura sympathizer, when compared with SNS feels like an affront. InoSaku can't even begin to... It feels like the fic authors just assume that they can just run with InoSaku because lack of creativity or easy narrative tool or plot device, as long as Naruto ends up with Sasuke, who cares if Sakura and Ino are both portrayed grossly wrong, right? 😒🙄
I try to avoid such fics as much as possible. To be honest a lot of fics have an ooc Sakura even without the ship because people make her too nice and considerate, maybe to avoid the misogyny allegations or because they for some reason like her a lot. I'm going to be honest but with the way Sakura is characterized in canon, I just can't see her with any character from the manga realistically.
I just personally can't take the ship seriously because I don't see anything romantic or even something that could potentially bloom into romance. Their dynamic is so clearly established as catty girls who have the same taste in boys, but one of them cares more about the other as a friend. The latter is also why I think Ino loses a lot in this ship because their relationship is mainly her caring about Sakura.
