Sunset Savannah’s Tamashina-Mina – Episode 1

Following is my translation of Episode 1 of the Tamashina-Mina event.

Spoilers after the cut!

Episode 1-1

Leona: Life just ain’t fair… Can't believe I got stuck going on this useless trip to this good-for-nothing city.

Vil: Excuse you? You’re the one who invited us here, you know. You’re ruining the nice scenery, so could you maybe try not complaining for like five seconds?

Kalim: This place is totally awesome! The scenery's beautiful everywhere you look, and the city’s absolutely huge. I’m so glad we got to come hang out in Leona’s hometown.

Leona: Oi. Lemme tell you this one more time: we ain’t here for fun and games. Our goal is to…

Lilia: You needn’t be so concerned, Leona. We all understand what we’re here for. No matter who we go up against, they’ll be no match for us. We’ll win this thing lickety-split!

Leona: …..Fine. Long as you get it. Ya’ll better not mess this up, you hear? You guys gotta be the ones who win the title of “Sunset Warrior”.

(A phone rings)

Leona: …Augh. Would ya shut up already? Who the heck would call me this early.… It’s…!! Tsch. If I don’t answer him now, it’ll just come back to bite me in the butt later.

(Leona accepts the call)

Leona: What’s up? Got a morning report for me or something? Huh. A reminder call? That’s new. Guess I shouldn’t expect anythin’ less from the grand chamberlain of the royal family. You sure are somethin’. Listen, you can save your breath. You called just to tell me to come home in time for Tamashina-Mina, right? I get it, it totally slipped my mind last year. Hah, it might just slip my mind this year, too. ….What? You’re comin’ here to get me? At Night Raven College? And you're bringin' all the chamberlains!? I didn’t know you’d take this so seriously… Fine, fine, I get it. I’ll come home the day before the festival. …Yes, I mean it. Have I ever lied to ya? ….Oh, quit with the blabbering. It was just a joke. But I got one condition for me coming home. You have to make sure to leave a slot free for one team in the “Catch the Tail” tournament. ….Why? Doesn’t matter. Stop complainin’ and just do it.

(Leona hangs up the phone)

Leona: Give me a break… The hell is he so obsessed with some stupid old event for? What a hard-headed geezer. Ah, now that I think about it, this is a good chance to take care of that little problem I got. ‘Kay, then I’ll need to go assemble the right pieces to win this game.

(After school - Savannah Claw Dorm Lounge)

Everyone: ….

Leona: So ya made it after all, Lilia and Vil. Nice work, Jack.

Jack: No problem!

Vil: And just why have you gathered us here?

Leona: There’s somethin’ I wanna discuss with ya’ll.

Lilia: If it’s really that important, wouldn’t it have made more sense for you to come to us, instead?

Vil: Goodness. If Jack hadn’t come to fetch us, I would have kept on ignoring your summons.

Grim: What he said!

Yuu: G-Good afternoon…

Leona: …Hold it. Why’re Grim and Yuu here?

Jack: I ran into them when I went to get Vil Senpai and Lilia Senpai, and they tagged along on their own.

Grim: Anywhere there’s lots of people gathered together, there’s bound to be lots of tasty food!

Jack: First time I ever heard that.

Leona: You two are just gonna get in the way. Buzz off already.

Vil: Forget them and hurry up and tell us what’s going on, Leona. We’ll go ahead and leave if you don’t start talking.

Leona: Alright, alright. Sounds like you just can’t wait to hear this, huh. Well, it ain’t nothin’ bad or anything. I’d just like to humbly invite my dear school friends to come visit my homeland with me, is all.

Jack: Huh? Your homeland… You mean Sunset Savannah?

Leona: Yup. They’ll be having Tamashina-Mina this weekend in the royal capital, Sunrise City

Grim: Tamashi….Mui…

Leona: Tamashina-Mina. It means “Gift from the Heavens”. Basically, it’s a festival where we all pray for rain. We hold it every year around this time, right before the rainy season starts.

Lilia: Oh, my. I’ve heard of that festival before, but I’ve never seen it for myself. It always sounded like such a fun occasion!

Jack: I’m guessing you’re going back home to take part in the festival, Leona Senpai?

Vil: And you’re inviting us to come along? …I smell something fishy. What’s your end goal here?

Leona: Thanks for makin’ this quick for me. The reason I’m invitin’ ya is because of… Catch the Tail.

Vil: Catch the Tail? I’ve never heard of that before.

Jack: Me neither. The heck is that?

Leona: It’s the name of this competition that takes place during the festival, where you gotta try an' grab some beads off your opponent's head before they nab yours. Magic and weapons are a no-go… It’s a pure test of your physical strength.

Jack: Oh yeah? Sounds pretty interesting.

Leona: There’s three players per team, and 16 teams in all compete together in a tournament. It’s pretty much the highlight of Tamashina-Mina. Even the king of Sunset Savannah and a bunch of guests from all over the world come to watch.

Grim: Then I bet the prize must be somethin’ awesome, right….? Like a year’s supply of tuna cans!?

Leona: Of course, there’s gonna be lots of prizes to go around… Is what I’d like to say, but unfortunately there ain’t any prizes or cash money up for grabs.

Grim: ...Lame.

Leona: Regardless, every year we get tons of people wantin’ to compete. And the reason is… The members of the winning team become Sunset Warriors.

Episode 1-2

Vil: Sunset Warriors…. I hadn’t expected to learn so many new words today.

Leona: It’s ‘cause all this stuff has been around for a long time and the lingo hasn’t changed. Listen, I’m fed up with everything, too, so don’t come complainin’ to me about it. The Sunset Warriors are a team of guardians that protect the country and support the king and queen.

Lilia: Oh? Something like… an imperial guard?

Leona: Originally, yeah. But now that we’re in times of peace, a job like that really doesn’t matter anymore. Nowadays, it’s more-or-less just an honorary title that’s given to the winning team.

Lilia: Well, that’s good, isn’t it? You could say that the title itself is a symbol of the peaceful times we now live in.

Leona: If you’re tryin' to put it as nicely as you can, sure. The job itself is long gone, but what hasn’t changed is that the title’s got a lot of prestige attached to it. Every year, highly skilled competitors from all over the country come down to take part in the tournament.

Jack: Gotcha… So in order to become a Sunset Warrior, you’re also going to compete in Catch the Tail!?

Leona: Nah, I ain’t gonna compete… Well, more like I ain’t even allowed to.

Vil: What do you mean?

Leona: It’s tradition for the younger brother of the heir to the throne to become the leader of the Sunset Warriors. And right now, that’s me.

Lilia: I see. So in other words, you’re already the leader of the Sunset Warriors. And since that isn't going to change anytime soon, then it makes sense you wouldn’t be permitted to compete in a game where the rest of the group members are chosen.

Leona: Yeah. And the leader has this friggin’ annoyin’ duty called “The Lessons of the Guardian”. I have to teach the other Warriors the understanding, good sense, and etiquette needed to protect both the monarch and the kingdom.

Vil: Understanding?

Lilia: Good sense?

Jack: Etiquette?

Grim: You have to teach people all that, Leona?

Everyone: ….Pfft. Ahahahhahah!

Grim: Nyahaha! They sure picked the wrong guy for that!

Jack: Ahahaha…. Ah! S-Sorry, Leona Senpai!

Leona: Hmph. Just as ya’ll have kindly pointed out, O Wise Ones, someone as rough around the edges as me just ain’t cut out for a gig like this. That’s why I’m trying to get out of it, no matter what it takes. Last year, I pretended like I accidentally forgot all about the festival and didn’t go home. And that’s what I’d been plannin’ to do this year, too. But this morning…. They called me up to remind me about it. There’s no tellin’ what they’ll do if I don’t agree to come back home now. I was thinkin’ I might as well throw in the towel and stop tryin' to swindle ‘em, but…

Lilia: But you really don’t want to have to go home and do this whole “Lessons of the Guardian” thing, do you?

Vil: Amazing. You can’t even do what’s required of you?

Leona: Hey, you have no idea just how long and annoying those stupid lessons are. So zip it. Anyways, that’s why I singled out you three to take with me.

Jack: Huh? You don’t mean…

Leona: Yup. I’m gonna have ya’ll win Catch the Tail for me. If a bunch of students from Night Raven College end up winning, all we gotta do is get our stories straight and pretend we finished doin’ the “Lessons of the Guardian”.

Everyone: He’s way too cunning!!!!

Yuu: What a sly guy…

Leona: Nah, it’s called bein’ clever. I hate doin’ pointless stuff.

Jack: Are we even allowed to compete? We’re not from Sunset Savannah or anything.

Leona: It ain’t a problem. People from all over can compete. Somethin’ about how anybody has the potential to become a guardian or whatever. It’s actually a pretty respectable policy, not what I’d expect from my country. There’s been plenty of foreigners and sightseers who’ve taken part over the years, so don’t worry about it. If a team of students from the famous Night Raven College compete, I’m sure the spectators will go wild.

Jack: Alright.

Leona: Jack, there’s not many guys at this school who can beat ya when it comes to physical strength. …But ya know, the people that’ll be competin’ are all pros at this stuff. What do ya think? Sounds interesting, right?

Jack: So I’ll get to put my strength to the test, huh. …Yeah, sure sounds like fun. I honestly still don’t get this whole “Sunset Warrior” stuff, but the competition sounds right up my alley. I’d love to see how far my strength will take me, going up against all those seasoned fighters!

Leona: Good. This is an important job, you hear. Next up, we got this old coot who’s always poppin’ up where ya least expect him. The way you can move around, it’s super-human. You’re friggin’ weird, alright? I honestly loathe teamin’ up with ya, but I’ll at least acknowledge your physical skills.

Lilia: Kufufu…. Leona, you really shouldn’t compliment me so unabashedly like that. I’ll get embarrassed, you know. But I must say, I feel that Malleus would also be a good fit for what you’re looking for. You sure you don’t want to invite him? I have no doubt he’d be delighted if you did. How about I go ask him right now? Shall I?

Leona: Quit it!!! No way in hell I’d ever ask that horned jackass for any favors. I’m invitin' you instead, and I’m damn sure you understand that already!

Lilia: Ah… That’s too bad, but I guess it can’t be helped. This Catch the Tail game sounds like it will be a lot of fun, and I’m sure we’ll all look back on this experience fondly someday. I’ll be delighted to take part.

Leona: Why didn’t ya just say that in the first place then? When we get back, be sure you brag to Malleus all about the amazing trip you had an’ make him nice and jealous.

Episode 1-3

Grim: And the last person you invited is Vil. I bet he’ll be of some use. Not as much as me, of course.

Jack: Vil Senpai always makes sure to keep up with his training regiment. He’s a great choice.

Lilia: And with that wonderful fighting spirit of his, he’d make a splendid combatant.

Leona: I mean, you’re not wrong. But the deciding factor for me was… There’s tons of strong guys at this school, but they’re all stubborn boneheads.

Jack: You’re right.

Lilia: I’m not sure you’ve got room to talk, Jack.

Leona: With that in mind, Vil’s a dorm warden who’s got a good head on his shoulders. Besides, me an’ him have been super close pals ever since we started goin’ to school together.

Vil: Eww…. You said that with absolutely zero emotion. Basically, you picked me because you know I wouldn’t subject you to any meaningless drivel, is that right? Well, I refuse. You won’t get me to play along for such a crude reason like that. If you’d like to take another third year with you, how about Rook?

Leona: Not in a hundred years…. Come on. I’m countin’ on ya, Vil.

Vil: Oh? I wasn’t aware you were a fan of mine, Leona. All you have to do is teach the “Lessons of the Guardian” to the tournament winners, right? I don’t really understand why I need to take part in this Catch the Tail thing? Go ask someone else. I’ll be excusing myself now.

Leona: You sure about that? You’re gonna regret it if you don’t stick around to hear the rest of my proposal.

Vil: And what is it?

Leona: Since you’re into beauty and stuff, I’m sure you know about that place called Elephant Legacy, right?

Vil: …..Of course I do.

Jack: Elephant Legacy? Never heard of it.

Grim: Is it someplace that Vil would be interested in?

Leona: It’s a barren land where the sun don’t ever shine. It’s filled with volcanoes that spew hot air into the sky, and there’s a gorge that cuts through the area. It used to be called the Elephant Graveyard, and it was a lawless land where even the king’s power couldn’t reach. And now it’s a….

Jack / Grim: *Gulp*

Leona: Hot spring resort.

Jack / Grim: Hot spring!? Resort!?

Leona: Yup. With all those gushing geysers and that magnificent scenery, not to mention the specialty goods they make usin’ geothermal energy, it’s become the foremost sightseein' destination in the whole country. …Well, I say “foremost” destination, but it ain’t like there’s really many others you can count.

Lilia: I’ve been there before. I found it a very enjoyable location.

Vil: Both the mineral water sold at Elephant Legacy, as well as the mud from the hot springs, are reputed to be great for your skin. …I-I would like to go there, but I’d rather go on my own. It’d be much more enjoyable than going with you.

Leona: That’s only if ya could go without me.

Vil: …What?

Leona: If you’re willin’ to participate in the Catch the Tail competition for me… I’ll personally take ya to this special location at Elephant Legacy that only members of the royal family are allowed to access.

Vil: HUH!?

Leona: If ya went to the hot springs on your own, you’d never be able to get to this location without me. And of course, that spot is guaranteed to be good for your beauty or whatever. If ya pass up on this opportunity, you won’t ever get to go there for the rest of your life.

Jack: Wow. No matter how you look at it, there’s no way Vil Senpai’s gonna be able to turn him down now…!

Lilia: Now I understand. Since he had such a powerful card up his sleeve, that’s why he went ahead and invited Vil.

Vil: You really are a sly man, proposing something like that to me. ...Fine. I'm hereby reserving a spot on Producer Leona’s Sunset Savanna Sight Seeing Tour. In exchange, you need to do your job and show us around properly. Okay, Mr. Tour Guide?

Leona: Uh-huh. I’ll be the best darn escort you ever had.

Grim: A festival in Sunset Savannah, huh… Sounds like it’s gonna be a lot of fun.

Yuu: I wonder if they’ll be serving lots of good food!

Grim: No doubt about it! Leona! We’ll come along, too!

Leona: And just who do ya think is gonna take ya?

Grim: What!?

Leona: Ain’t no way you guys are up to snuff for Catch the Tail.

Grim: Hey, no worries! The heck would I wanna join in on some annoying competition? All I’m gonna be doing is stuffing my face with tasty grub!

Leona: …And now there’s even less of a reason for me to take ya’ll.

Grim: But why!! TAKE US WITH YOU! TAKE US WITH YOOU! TAKE UUUUSSS!!!

Leona: Shut up, furball!

Lilia: Why not let them come along, Leona? The more traveling buddies, the merrier.

Leona: Bringing along a couple of dead weights is just gonna be a pain in the neck.

Jack: Grim’s rolling around on the floor making a fuss, but… What about you, Yuu?

Yuu: I’d love to go, if I could…!

Lilia: You see, Leona? I think you should stop being so miserly and let them come. If we go on this trip together with everyone…. Then we’ll be able to create a lot of fun memories together.

Leona: And I’m telling you, we ain’t goin’ there for fun and games.

Lilia: Such a cold-hearted man! Then maybe I’ll stay behind, too, and we can have a party at Ramshackle Dorm.

Leona: Tsch. I know exactly what you’re up do. Okay, fine. They can come be our team support or whatever.

Yuu: We’ll give it our best!

Leona: Oi. I’ll be countin’ on ya, so you better make sure this furball here doesn’t go and cause me any trouble. You got it?

Episode 1-4 (The weekend)

Grim: Ah, it’s Vil. Howdy!

Vil: Good morning, Grim and Yuu. You two are both headed towards the Mirror Chamber, I presume? Let’s go together.

Yuu: We’ll probably get there pretty early, huh.

Vil: Of course. Punctuality is everything in showbiz, you know. People who arrive late on set never get very far in the industry. Oh? You’re bringing the Ghost Camera with you, I see.

Grim: Uh-huh! We’re gonna take lots of pics of all the yummy food we eat there.

Vil: Please do be sure to get a picture of us winning Catch the Tail, alright?

Jack: Good morning, Vil Senpai! Ah, and there’s Grim and Yuu.

Vil: Good morning, Jack. You’re here early.

Jack: Yeah, I didn’t want to keep my Senpai waiting.

Lilia: Oh, is everyone here already? Good morning!

Vil: Morning, Lilia. ….Why are you wearing your PE uniform?

Lilia: I don’t do very well with direct sunlight, so I picked out a comfortable outfit for the trip. Looky here, I also packed a parasol and a handheld fan.

Jack: I figured it would be best to wear something respectable, so that’s why I came wearing my school uniform… I wonder if that was the wrong choice.

Vil: No, you made the right choice based on the time, place, and occasion. We’ll be accompanying a member of the royal family to his homeland, after all.

Lilia: I’m a seasoned traveler, so I’m exercising the utmost caution here. I also made sure to let Malleus know how to reach me in case of an emergency, since he has to stay behind at the dorm.

Vil: Sounds like you’ve got all your bases covered, then.

Lilia: Kufufu. Just who do you take me for? I’m a professional solo traveler, you know. Before I enrolled at the school I went traveling alone all over the world, so this is nothing new for me. But this time, I promised to take plenty of photos while on our trip. I hope you boys will help me out with that.

Yuu: Let’s take lots of pictures together!

Lilia: That’s the spirit. Ah, this is why traveling is so much fun! Is Leona still not here yet? It’s about the time we’d agreed to meet.

Jack: Not yet. When I knocked on his door this morning he answered me, so I thought he was awake. But…

Grim: Knowing that slacker, he probably went right back to sleep.

Vil: Even though we’re all going on this trip because of him…

Leona: *Yaaawn*….

Jack: Good morning, Leona Senpai!

Leona: ‘Sup. Is everyone here?

Jack: Yes! All accounted for.

Vil: Once we get there, will the tournament be starting right away?

Leona: Nah, the festival is starting today, and the tournament will begin tomorrow. Today, you guys are gonna use the tournament arena and get some practice in.

Lilia: So we’ll at least have time to get down the basics, then. That’s a relief.

Vil: And we’ll also have plenty of time to stop by Elephant Legacy, correct?

Leona: You don’t even gotta ask. I made us arrangements and everything. Alright, let’s get goin’.

???: Huh?

Kalim: What’re you guys all doing here?

Leona: Kalim… The heck are you doin’ in the Mirror Chamber?

Lilia: Well, isn’t this a coincidence. Good morning, Kalim.

Kalim: Oh, hey! Good morning, Lilia! And good morning, everyone else!!!

Vil: Since you’re in the Mirror Chamber, I take it you’re planning to go somewhere?

Kalim: Yup! I’m going to Sunset Savannah!

Leona: What…!?

Everyone: !!!

Kalim: Wait a sec! Since Leona’s here, are you guys maybe all going to Tamashina-Mina, too?

Leona: “Too?” So that means… It’s just what I was thinkin’.

Vil (whispering to Leona): Leona, did you also invite Kalim?

Leona (whispering to Vil): Don’t make me laugh. You need brains and brawn if you wanna compete in Catch the Tail. There’s no way a sheltered bub like Kalim would stand a fightin’ chance.

Lilia: Kalim. Who invited you to go to Tamashina-Mina?

Kalim: The royal family of Sunset Savannah.

Jack: The royal family?

Leona: Every year, important folks from all over the world get invited as guests of the state. Figures they would also reach out to the son of a top merchant from Scalding Sands.

Vil: Were you not aware he’d been invited?

Leona: It’s bad enough I have to go back home, no way I’d go waste my time lookin’ through the friggin’ guest list.

Grim: Hm? Hey… I don’t see Jamil anywhere?

Kalim: Jamil went on ahead to Sunset Savannah already. There’s lots of other staff members from back home that are coming along, and he was saying they’d be meeting with the people in charge of the festival. It sounded like they have a lot of stuff to do, like going over what’ll happen during the ceremony, and organizing the security and everything.

Lilia: Oh, my! Even just going to a festival is quite the serious matter for you, it appears.

Jack: We’ll be competing in Catch the Tail.

Kalim: Woah. Catch the Tail is that tournament they have during Tamashina-Mina, right? Good luck, you guys! I’ll be cheering you on from the stands!

Jack: Heh. We’ll be counting on ya!

Leona: Enough with the chit chat. Let’s go.

The Tamashina-Mina spoilers part 1

We begin with a very familiar scene. It soon transitions to the present day with said iconic scene now a fountain in the middle of a busy plaza from the looks of it.

Leona says that the world is unfair. He never imagined to end up on a bad trip in such a bad place. Vil reminds Leona it was he who invited him. He asks Leona rather than ruin the beautiful scenery, would Leona be silent like a rug?

Kalim says it really is beautiful all over. It’s spacious and nice. He’s happy to visit the place Leona was born and raised. Leona reminds Kalim they are not there to play.

Before Leona can reveal why they are there, Lilia cuts in telling Leona not to worry. They understand their purpose for being there. No matter who is against them, they are not the enemy. He tells everyone they must win. Leona relaxes, muttering it’s good they understand. They must absolutely not fail. They will be the ones to earn the title of “Sunset Warrior”.

Savanaclaw Dorm - Leona’s Room

With the prologue over, we begin in Leona’s room, his phone ringing. Our sleepy lion is awoken by the constant ringing, begrudgingly wondering who it could be. When Leona answers the phone, he is surprised to hear the voice. It seems to be a reminder call from the Royal Chamberlain telling Leona to come home in time for Tamashina-Mina. Leona says he forgot to go the year before, and jokingly says he may as well forget to come this year, too.

However, Leona is in for a surprise when he is informed that they are coming for him at Night Raven College. There is no escaping, Leona~ With no way out, Leona relents. He’ll return home a day before the festival. But, he has one condition before he goes home. He wants a team prepared for the “Catch The Tail” tournament. Leona doesn’t care about the reason. He tells the other person to be prepared and not to whine.

With that, Leona ends the phone call. He mutters wondering why that person sticks to old events. He’s just as stubborn as the old man. Regardless, Leona thinks it’s a good opportunity to clean up the mess. So, Leona decides to collect the pieces to win the game.

Savanaclaw Dorm - Lounge

After school. Leona is pleased to see Lilia and Vil present. He tells Jack he did a good job. Vil asks why he has been summoned to such a place. Leona replies that he needs to talk to them. Lilia retorts that Leona should be the one to have summoned them if he had business with them. However, Vil disagrees. Had Jack not fetched for Vil, he would have ignored Leona’s summons. Grim loudly agrees with Vil.

Yuu greets Leona as they arrive. Leona asks why Yuu and Grim arrived. Jack explains that while talking to Vil and Lilia, they happened to be in the area, and came without permission. Grim laughs and says where people gather, there’s bound to be a delicious meal. Jack says he’s never heard of that. Leona tells Grim he is in the way, and tells him to go home.

Vil tells Leona he better speak quickly otherwise he will leave. Leona gets right to the point. He is inviting Vil and Lilia to his hometown. Jack says that it’s in Sunset Savanna. Leona continues by saying that Tamashina-Mina will be held in the capital of Sunset Savanna, Sunrise City, this weekend.

Grim is having trouble pronouncing Tamashina-Mina. Leona tells him and adds that it means “a gift from heaven”. In other words, it is a festival to pray for rain, and is held every year during the rainy season.

Lilia says he has heard if the festival, but has never seen it. He always thought it sounded like fun. Jack asks if Leona will be going home to participate in the festival. Vil assumes Leona is intending to invite them to said festival. He tells Leona he never does anything with good intentions, and demands to know his purpose. Leona is pleased that it’s easy to talk to them, and says the purpose of the invite is “Catch The Tail”.

Vil has never heard of that. Jack also wonders what it is. Leona explains that it is the name of the competition in Tamashina-Mina. Each person holds a beaded ornament attached to the head. They engage in hand-to-hand combat without using weapons or magic. It is a group match played by teams of three people in a tournament with 16 teams. It is the main attraction of Tamashina-Mina, and the royal family and guests from other countries come to watch.

Grim excitedly exclaims that the prize must be amazing like a year’s supply of tuna cans. Leona replies that he’d like to say there is a prize, but there are no such rewards crushing Grim’s hopes. That said, Leona states that many contestants gather because the winning team members are called Sunset Warriors. So, basically, they compete for glory.

Ana in Tamashina-Mina event.

I got so addicted to the Tamashina-Mina event that I couldn't miss the opportunity to do an illustration of Ana participating in the event. Her outfit is a mixture of Nala's costumes in The Lion King, with the event's own clothes and the colors of Grimm's ribbon.

[Translation]Kalim: Ana, you look beautiful!

Lilia: Fufufu, Kalim is right.

Vil: Well, well. I must agree with the compliments, don't I Leona?

Do you think we’ll see the parents/family of each of the guys???

Like, We’ve been TEASED with Ace’s brother, that I’m starting to think it’s just a reference to that Alice in Wonderland park character in Japan and nothing else….

Jack’s family, Ruggie’s grandma, Falena, Maleficia, Ms.Rosehearts, Just now Vil’s dad is in the picture which I am really happy but now I’m wondering about his mom, and so Deuce’s mom.

I mean, some HAVE a silhouette!! It could mean they do have a design in the making/ready to show. They could’ve shown us Falena in the Tamashina (hope I said that correctly) event, but didn’t (prolly to make Leona not so σ(▼□▼メ) and it’s understandable)

Anyhow, any idea/headcannon about this? Who do you want to see first?

I'm wondering if everyone might eventually get a travel event? like they've now introduced with Vil's that it doesn't have to be specifically hometowns, so that opens things up a lot! (especially if they have to figure out how to do three separate Coral Sea visits) (how would that even work otherwise)

but yeah, I hope everyone gets a chance! there's a lot of backstory characters I would LOVE to meet. :D :D :D though I do think some of them don't really suit the more light-hearted tone of the events (pretty sure you're right about that being why Falena wasn't in Tamashina-Mina, that would've just been. too much for Leona.) so like...we're probably not ever going to meet the Rosehearts. or Maleficia (although I maintain that this would be THE funniest possible way to introduce her outside of the main story, and actually I would love this a lot, can we please Twst) (I need to see her to put Malleus in a froofy little outfit and tell him what a handsome boy he is). but they've sprung surprises like Kifaji on us, and honestly anyone who shows up and tells embarrassing stories about characters' childhoods is good in my book!

characters off the top of my head who I most want to meet: literally any of the Zigvolts, Azul's mom, Ace's brother, Che'nya's grandfather (<- I think he would be a good one for Riddle) (please just any non-terrible adult in his life), any member of Rook's family because I need to see how they managed to produce him, and...really just whoever they can come up with for Silver.

Realized upon that hometown events' guest characters are those who are close with SSR card main characters. And I'm not saying because they are family or close friends.

Jamil - They could picked either of Jamil's parents yet decided upon Najma. Why? Because he and his parents' relationship are complicated and Najma is someone that he is close to the most and can be himself without worried about hierarchy. They even have typically sibling relationship where Najma mess with him but never outright cruel to him. (Love how she stole the shawarma)

Epel - Well Epel is a family man and he is close with each of the family relatives. I'm sure the reason it's Marja is because she is involved with the sled competition more than his family even looks like her the most (once he gets old). I mean it's hilarious how Idia fangirls Marja because she is inspiration of his favorite character.

Leona - they could have picked Farena since Cheka was already present but they picked Kifaji which is surprising given the last two are family members yet the guest character is the Twisted version of Zazu (but still interesting to have another twisted version of a Disney character). The reason is probably because he isn't close with Farena despite his brother caring about Leona that much but knowing his overblot backstory, he despise him since he is the heir and how people praise him while they badmouthed Leona. While Kifaji and Leona aren't really close, he is one of the few that Kifaji treated him well without discriminating him especially from the chess game. Kifaji is basically like a parent or an uncle to Leona and given Leona's family issues, he is close to someone than any of his family.

Deuce - knowing well about what he said about his mother, it's obvious that his mother is the guest character. Not to mentioned, the only person he is close to the most. Since he left the gang to leave a better life and how he treated everyone disrespectful and no known relatives except for his grandmother, his mother is closest person he has and how he'll do everything for his mother.

Vil - so far one of the two overblot boys (with Azul being the other one) are the ones without family problems (Idia seems to have caring parents but the family business is complicated for chapter 6 and 7 reasons). Obviously Vil will have his own father be the guest character because he is a great dad to Vil who doesn't abuse nor neglect him. Vil even talks proudly about his father.

So based on that, it's not just relationship towards the SSR but also how they are close to one another without ill-intentions nor trauma. So I have feeling the next hometown events will be similar to which the SSR closest to be the guest character.

Like for example, Azul's guest character could be his mother because he proudly talks about his mother and how he is happy that he married her divorce lawyer. I can picture tweels' guest character to be either their parents.

Now the only issues on who is closest to are the Lilia, Silver, Riddle's, Shroud brothers', and Malleus'.

Lilia and Silver are eachother's relatives and doesn't seem to have anyone they talk to outside of the family (Baul and Zigvolt don't really count especially when Baul ready debuted and felt they would be Sebek's guest characters). We already seen through the Shroud's parents and I doubt that Idia has someone close and Ortho is extroverted but I'm not sure what their hometown is like besides Styx. Do they have other children or anyone close to?

Malleus's family is complicated and we know about Senate. So he would likely have his grandmother.

Riddle for obvious reasons...

So this is just my speculation.

I believe it has been stated that the manga intentionally blacks out the face of Mrs. Rosehearts because she is viewed as the source of Riddle’s trauma. It keeps her in this shadowy, untouchable status and maintains the idea that the darkness of the past still impacts us in present day. I anticipate that this will hold and become the pattern for each OB boy’s flashback sequences. (We’ll soon see!)

If that’s the case for the manga, then it makes sense for the game to do something similar by purposefully keeping the faces of figures who play a significant role in each OB boy’s trauma a secret. That means likely no Mrs. Rosehearts, similar to how we did not meet the Viper parents in A Firelit Sky nor Farena/Falena in Tamashina Mina. However, some parents are clearly still fair game since they do have a good relationship with their son (Mrs. Ashengrotto and Azul, for example.). We see an example of this with Eric Venue showing up in Tapis Rouge.

It makes sense to meet family members whom the SSR boy has a good relationship with; running into a family member that stresses them out would kill the fun and easygoing vibes of the hometown event and would instead present an interpersonal issue that runs too deep to be resolved in a satisfying way before the event’s conclusion. Imagine a hometown event in which we have to stay over in Riddle’s home and we witness his parents fighting?? 😔 I don’t think that’s something that could be “fixed” in like 5 parts… Of course, not every family is perfect and that’s valid. It’s just not the scope or the perspective that TWST hometown events want or are equipped to deal with.

I feel like any of the Ocatrio’s family are pretty fair game? Despite how sketchy they are, Azul, Floyd, and Jade seem to be on good terms with all of their family members (well, maybe excluding Azul’s biological father) and learned many important things from them. I am, once again, asking TWST for a Coral Sea hometown event… 🤚 ✋ *holds out hands*

I’m sure that the characters who don’t have obvious family members to meet/yet to be revealed will have some other substitution? Probably a new character that’s twisted from another Disney character (similar to Kifaji). Maybe we’ll see a new noble fae that Lilia knows, Silver’s guardian fae that blessed him at birth, or prominent STYX staff (like maybe twisted Pain or Panic?).

For Malleus, his only living relative is his grandmother, sooo… I guess he’ll introduce us to the reigning monarch if he’s the SSR of a Briar Valley hometown event 😂 Malleus does what Leona won’t…

Sunset Savannah’s Tamashina-Mina – Episode 2 (Part 1)

Following is part 1 of my translation of Episode 2 of the Tamashina-Mina event. This part contains episodes 2-1 to 2-3.

Episode 2-1

Leona: We made it.

Grim: Woah! So this is Sunset Savannah.

Leona: Yup. This is Sunrise City - the imperial capital, and also my hometown. Allow me to welcome ya'll to my sordid abode.

Jack: Ah- It’s hot….

Vil: It’s certainly hotter than it is back at Sage’s Island and the Shaftlands. Even the air here feels different.

Kalim: Everything is so bright and pretty!

Lilia: Indeed. And it’s quite uncommon for a large metropolis like this to have so much greenery in it.

Leona: That’s thanks to this country’s conviction, which we’re all so grateful for. The people here value “coexistence with nature” more than anythin’ else, and we make sure to conserve natural areas like this so the local animals have places to live, since they’re our ancestors and all.

Lilia: So what do you think, Leona? You feeling nostalgic about returning to your homeland after so long?

Leona: The opposite. I’m sick of lookin’ at this place. It never changes.

Lilia: Oh, really? I haven’t been to Sunset Savannah in quite a while, and it appears to have completely transformed since the last time I was here. The city back then wasn’t really developed very much, and they didn’t have any of these skyscrapers or whatnot.

Leona: That woulda been decades ago. Even back when my dad was healthy an’ ruled over the country, development of the city had already started.

Vil: I’ve also been to Sunrise City countless times before, but each time I come here I can’t help but be astounded by what an amazing place it is.

Leona: Amazing? You know… For folks who only come here once in a while just to kick back and relax, I guess that’s about what they’d think.

Vil: What is up with you? You keep beating around the bush about something.

Leona: Kalim, Scalding Sands is a hot and dry country like this one, right?

Kalim: Uh-huh. Most of my country is desert. But there’s a canal that runs through my hometown, Silk City, so it’s actually not too hot there. It used to be a huge problem trying to find enough drinking water, but we don’t have to worry about that anymore.

Leona: I’d wager that’s ‘cause the folks who run the government over there are proactive about adoptin’ new technologies, and they’ve been workin’ hard to improve the living conditions of your people.

Sunset Savannah is mostly made up of arid land. We ain’t got any deserts, but water’s still a precious resource for us. Unlike Scalding Sands, however, the development of infrastructure here is pretty much nonexistent. We even got people who still live off well water.

Folks here are so conscientious they’ll go out of their way to adapt to the land in whatever ways they can, and their whole lives are spent subject to the whims of mother nature. That’s why we still have this stupid festival to pray for rain every year.

There’s tons of natural resources underneath these lands, and if we’d just set up some large-scale mining operations then no doubt we’d be a lot better off. But everybody’s way too concerned about “coexistence with nature” or whatever. I doubt urban development ever even crosses their minds. It’s a lot different from Scalding Sands, huh?

Vil: So it’s not that the people here are unable to develop the infrastructure, it’s that they’re purposefully avoiding doing it… Something like that?

Leona: Yeah.

Lilia: Hmm. I don’t think that’s entirely a bad thing. As far as arbitrary development is concerned, if you spend enough money, it’s easily doable. And that’s why you’ll find modernized towns all over the world. But trying to develop an area and preserve the surrounding nature at the same time, like what they’re doing here? That’s astronomically more difficult.

Leona: My, what an exemplary response. If my big brother heard you sayin’ something that, he’d be beggin’ you through his tears to tell that to me, too.

Kalim: Your big brother, huh. Isn’t he the leader of this country right now?

Leona: My dad is the king, but he’s been sick in bed for a while. Falena, the first in line to the throne, has been runnin’ this place the past few years.

Kalim: I’ll need to be sure to say "Hi" to your brother! I’ll tell him how you and me always have so much fun together, Leona!

Leona: I don’t remember ever havin’ fun with you.

Lilia: We should give him our greetings, as well! I’m sure it’ll be fine if we just say something that sounds nice, right?

Vil: We’ll need to tell him all about how hardworking and kind our dear friend Leona is.

Grim: And I’ll tell him that Leona’s my henchman’s henchman!

Leona: Fat chance he’d come meet a bunch of tourists. We’re talking about the guy who’s the chief executive of the whole country. Sorry, but I ain’t in the mood to go see him, either. Why, I’m shakin’ in my boots just at the thought of havin' an audience with his royal majesty. Heh.

Vil: Oh, really? That’s a shame.

(A car pulls up)

Kalim: Ah! Here comes my ride. I’ll need to get headed to the hotel now.

Lilia: Leaving already, Kalim? That’s no fun. Here, why don’t you tell us what hotel you’re staying at? We can hang out together tonight.

Leona: As if ya even need to ask him. No doubt he’s staying at the Sunset Villa hotel.

Kalim: Hmm, let’s see here… Hey, you’re right! “Sunset Villa hotel!!!! (Don’t forget it)” …is what it says here on this note that Jamil left me. How did you know, Leona?

Leona: We don’t got many hotels that are luxurious enough to house guests of the state. It’s the same place we're gonna be stayin' at.

Kalim: Really? Awesome! It’ll be so much fun being together with everyone.

Vil: Sounds like you really did book us a proper hotel, Leona.

Kalim: Bye you guys! Let’s meet up later!

(Kalim gets into the car and departs)

Lilia: How about we go do some sightseeing now?

Vil: Good idea.

Jack: Man, it’s hot…..

Leona: Was wonderin’ when you’d finally pipe up, but you’re just saying the same thing you did before. You honestly think it’s that hot?

Yuu: Yeah, it’s pretty hot out!

Leona: That’s just your imagination talkin’. Deal with it. Sunset Savannah is a lot longer than it is wide, and we got a lot of tall mountains that are high above sea level. The climate changes completely from one area to the next, but the average temperature in Sunrise City is a bit higher than it is at school.

Jack: B-but still… Isn’t it really hot here….? Argh…. I’m dripping with sweat….

Leona: I mean, the UV rays in Sunset Savannah are really strong. A lot more than in other countries.

Vil: Thank goodness I applied ample sunscreen before we left.

Lilia: And I’m glad I brought my sun visor! I took every possible measure I could before coming here.

Grim: I've been standing in your guys’ shadows this whole time so I’m A-okay!

Lilia: My, aren’t you a clever one. That’s something I do quite often, myself.

Jack: …..

Leona: ….Jack? Hey, you alright?

Jack: I…. I’m fine….

Leona: Cut the crap! Your face is gettin’ paler by the second. Hurry up and go sit down in the shade over there!

Jack: I’m fine…. I….

(Jack collapses and falls on top of Grim)

Everyone: JACK!?

Jack: ….

Vil: He collapsed all of a sudden…. And he isn’t responding when I call his name.

Leona: This isn’t good... He probably got heat exhaustion.

Lilia: He’s unconscious. This is an emergency!

Grim: Waaaah! I’m stuck under Jack!

Yuu: Somebody help!!

Leona: Calm down! We need to bring him somewhere he can rest and look for something to cool him down with…

???: You seem to have quite the problem on your hands, Lord Leona.

Leona: !? You’re….

Everyone: ?

Grim: Who’s this guy?

Episode 2-2

???: Now I understand. I’ll go ahead and perform a physical examination, then.

Jack: Ugh.

???: Hmm. Just as Lord Leona surmised, you appear to be ailing from heat exhaustion. Come, let’s get you in the shade and I’ll patch you up for the time being.

Vil: Leona, may I ask who this is? You two appear to know each other.

Leona: *Sigh* This guy’s the head chamberlain of Sunset Savannah, and he serves the royal family.

Kifaji: My name is Kifaji, and I’m pleased to make the acquaintance of Lord Leona’s school companions.

Vil: A pleasure to meet you. I’m Vil Schoenheit.

Kifaji: Ah, yes. I recognized you immediately. We are truly honored to have a distinguished model such as yourself come visit us.

Lilia: I’m Lilia, from Briar Valley. Nice to meet you.

Grim: And I’m Grim!

Yuu: Name’s Yuu! Nice to meet you.

Kifaji: My, what a lively bunch. Thank you all for coming.

Leona: Anyways, your timing was pretty impeccable.

Kifaji: I noticed it was about time for you to arrive and came here to welcome you, Lord Leona.

Leona: Hah. Don’t make me laugh. I bet you swung by just to check whether or not I even showed up. You seriously don’t trust me, huh.

Kifaji: What a terrible thing to say. I wonder, which one of us is it that doesn’t trust the other?

Jack: A…augh…

Leona: Ya comin’ to, Jack?

Jack: S-sorry. I got super dizzy all of a sudden and blacked out before I realized what was going on…

Kifaji: Master Jack, please have a sip of this water.

(Jack drinks the water)

Jack: Haaah….. I feel a little better now…

Vil: You sure gave us quite the shock back there.

Leona: You idiot…. You should’ve dressed more appropriately for the heat. The hell did you come in your school uniform for?

Jack: I’m sorry. I…. I don’t do good in hot weather.

Leona: Yeah, I know. …I should’ve given you a heads up before we came.

Grim: Huh!? Leona’s admitting up front that he made a mistake…!

Leona: Why’re you actin’ so surprised?

Kifaji: We don’t want your condition to worsen any further. You’ll need to rest today.

Leona: Yeah.

Jack: What!? I don’t need any freakin’ rest! The tournament starts tomorrow… We have to train today…! Heat exhaustion isn’t even a big deal…. I’m going to our practice session with you guys!

Lilia: It is a big deal. You mustn't push yourself so much.

Vil: He’s right, Jack. That one-track mind of yours can be a real virtue, but sometimes it can also be your undoing. Anyways, we’re guests in a foreign land right now, so really you need to stop being so unreasonable.

Jack: But… But Leona Senpai’s counting on me… He chose me as a member of the team and everything… I’d feel awful if we couldn’t compete in the tournament just ‘cause of something stupid like this…!

Leona: If you’re feelin’ sorry, then zip it and listen to us already. You need to rest.

Jack: B-but…

Leona: You’ll just end up dragging us down in the condition you’re in. I’m kicking you off the team.

Jack: No....!!

Leona: This is an order from your dorm warden. You understand, right?

Jack: Dammit…. I’m really sorry…!

Leona: I told ya already, I’m the one who messed up. Don’t make me say it again. You tryin’ to make me look bad or something?

Kifaji: You were talking about Catch the Tail just now, correct? Might I presume you all are members of the Night Raven College Team that will be competing in the tournament?

Leona: Yup. Remember I asked ya to keep a spot open for 'em in the tournament?

Kifaji: Yes, and I’ve made the proper preparations. However, you never revealed your reasons for doing all this. Could it be…. You’re attempting to shirk your responsibility of performing the “Lessons of the Guardian”?

Leona: Nice guess. You’ve always been sharp as a tack, Kifaji.

Kifaji: Goodness gracious. That cunning nature of yours hasn’t changed one bit. What a pity. It’s your job to perform the “Lessons of the Guardian”, and that’s something you should take pride in. I should hope you'd adopt an attitude more befitting of a member of the royal family. To begin with, you’re always so-

Leona: Tsch. Here we go again with the damn lectures. It doesn't matter whether or not I go around actin' like I'm royalty. It's not like anybody cares.

Kifaji: ….Lord Leona, you really shouldn’t say something like that. Well then, I shall go ahead and accompany Master Jack to the hotel.

Leona: ‘Kay, sounds good.

(Kifaji departs)

Leona: …….. Wait a sec, Kifaji. We’ll go with ya.

Episode 2-3

Leona: Here we are. This is Sunset Villa, the hotel ya’ll are gonna stay at.

Grim: Holy cow! Talk about luxurious!!! I wish I could live here forever!

Leona: It’s the most high-end hotel in the entire country.

Lilia: What a magnificent place this is. Any patient should be able to recuperate in peace here.

Vil: Ah, Kifaji’s come back.

Kifaji: I’ll go ahead and begin my report now. I have taken Master Jack to the room we prepared for him, and I’ve also made arrangements for a personal doctor and nurses to look after him.

Leona: Nice work. Alright, now we need to go look for you-know-who.

Vil: And just who would that be?

(The camera pans around the room and then Kalim appears)

Kalim: Hey! You guys made it.

Leona: Perfect timing. We were just lookin’ for ya, Kalim.

Kalim: Hm? Is something the matter, Leona?

Kifaji: ….Don’t tell me!?

Leona: Kalim, you gotta enter the Catch the Tail tournament.

Everyone: !?

Kalim: Huh? Me? You mean join your guys’ team?

Leona: Yup. There’s three players to a team, but Jack ended up passin’ out from the heat so we’re a man down.

Kalim: Oh no! Is he okay!?

Leona: Yeah. But at this rate, Vil and Lilia aren’t gonna be able to compete in the tournament at all. We need one more player.

Lilia: Hmm. You're correct, however…

(Vil, Leona, and Lilia huddle together and start whispering)

Vil: Are you sure about this?

Leona: I know, I know. Compared to Jack, Kalim’s a pretty cruddy athlete. But havin’ him on the team is better than getting disqualified. Just think about it for a second. We got Yuu, who hardly knows anything about the world; Grim, who doesn’t listen to a word anybody says; and Jamil, who’s lord knows where right now. We pretty much got no other choice but to have Kalim join us.

Leona: So whadya think, Kalim? Your “buddies” are in a real jam here… You’ll help us out, right?

Kifaji: You stop right there!

Leona: Huh?

Kifaji: Master Kalim was formally invited to our country as a guest of the state. It is out of the question for him to take part in the tournament! He could get injured! If something were to befall him, the repercussions of such an incident would rock the peoples’ trust in the state.

Leona: Humph. You’re as stuffy as ever. Listen, Kifaji. All I’m tryin’ to do is enjoy my homeland’s festival with my school friends. I can’t even begin to tell ya how much Vil and Lilia have been lookin’ forward to competing in the tournament. And Grim and Yuu - they came all the way out here just to cheer on their friends.
