House of the Dragon Hot Take except I don't care what number I'm on because this is a more important post than usual.

I feel like the majority of GOT/HOTD/ASOIAF fans see this post as "common sense" but a lot of you don't act on it so I'm just going to say it anyway. Stop threatening the actors. Stop bullying the actors. Stop threatening people that have different opinions then you (i'm SPECIFICALLY looking at toxic team green and team black stans right now.) I have seen people like Iwan Rheon, Carice van Houten, Jack Gleason, Sophie Turner, Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Matt Smith get treated like absolute SHIT because of their characters, their appearance, their gender, and their acting. It is truly disgusting and dehumanizing to go on social media and see people sending death threats to actors and actresses because people don't like their character. I'll give examples on what I mean:

Iwan Rheon - Has been harassed for playing Ramsay.

Jack Gleason - Got sent death threats for playing Joffrey.

Kit Harington - Got sexually harassed in public numerous times and I believe threatened at least once for playing Jon. He also gets made fun of for wanting to be seen as more than a pretty face and body. He also got ridiculed for saying being randomly touched in public and having people practically harassing him about his appearance makes him reasonably upset.

Matt Smith - People bully him for his appearance, harassed him AND his MOTHER on twitter, and people accuse him of supporting abuse towards women because he plays Daemon.

Carice van Houten - Got sent death threats for playing Melisandre.

Sophie Turner - Got bullied off of almost every social media at some point for playing Sansa. She's also the victim of almost every misogynist GOT fan on the internet all for playing Sansa.

Emilia Clarke - Has been sexually harassed in public and gets bullied online for being a "terrible actress" for doing what the script and director tells her because she played Daenerys.

Tom Glynn-Carney - Got rape allegations put against him on twitter because of the episode where Aegon rapes Dyana. They said that because Aegon is a rapist Tom is too.

I have said this time and time again, you guys are fucking EMBARRASSING!! Get a god damn grip on yourselves and instead of acting like morons who can't separate character from actor/actress go outside and breathe in some fresh fucking air.

Nothing funnier than seeing Targ stans go "before HOTD no one cared about the Hightowers they were a minor forgotten house in ASOIAF and Tyrell vassals, Jonsas and Targ haters are at work again" as if 1. it's surprising that people are paying attention to a smaller house now that it's a major house during the time of the show 2. it's utterly impossible that someone likes the antagonists besides Sansa stans for another reason that they hate Dany and project that dislike onto Rhaenyra and Daemon

Ramsay Snow was Roose's son. He was a bastard but he also was the first born son of the Warden of the North. After successfully capturing Moat Cailin he got legitimised by the royal decree of King Tommen. He became Ramsey Bolton.

When Walda Frey became pregnant with a boy, Ramsay, despite being legitimatised and being a first born, felt threatened because Roose and Walda's son has a stronger claim to the North than Ramsay just because the child has the right parents. To solidify the alliance of the Bride's family Roose would make his second son Heir making sure that Walder Frey's blood would one day rule the North. Ramsay, threatened by the prospect killed his father, step-mother and half-brother so that there would be no other challengers to his claim.

Tell me again how this is different from Rhaenyra's case? Rhaenyra's treason (siring bastards) inadvertently puts Alicent's kids in danger as they have a stronger claim to the throne. Rhaenyra might not wish to harm them but what of Daemon? What's stopping him from ordering hits on Alicent's children and making them look like accidents when push comes to shove?

Team danger headcanons except it's all just actual stupid things I did with my cousins growing up

in the man cave, they have what they refer to as "the solo couch", which is just a chair. but one time Jasper forgot the word for chair and called it a solo couch and nobody ever let him live it down

they always invite themselves over to have sleepovers in the man cave, and they make Henry call ray to run it by him because "he's the favorite"

once at a sleepover Jasper was snoring so Charlotte and Piper dragged his sleeping body into the other room and put him on the couch. 5 minutes later they heard a really loud bang and went in there to discover not only did he fall off the couch, he banged his head on the coffee table while doing so.

sometimes when Jasper and Piper would argue they would have a physical fight to solve it. Henry would be the ref and Charlotte would just watch in disapproval.

another time at a sleepover Henry broke a hole in the man cave ceiling. and everyone was scared they wouldn't be able to sleep there anymore but then they remembered "he's the favorite" and ray didn't even care

on a related note, once Jasper broke a window in junk n stuff and they all blamed Henry (without his approval) because they knew he wouldn't get in trouble

ray has a mini fridge in his room and they go in there to make fun of the contents of it. like ridiculous slander. "you drink orange soda? ha! you guys! ray drinks orange soda" like just bullying him for no reason

the 4 of them always played hotel in Henry's house. piper was the guest, Jasper was the window cleaner guy, Charlotte worked at the front desk, and Henry was the guy who took your bags.

Ray forces them to watch America's got talent every time they stay over and all of them hate it

Charlotte has a lifelong grudge against Henry because one time they were playing Wii party and JUST as Charlotte was about to win, Henry turned off the Wii.

they all occasionally locked each other in the basement of Henry's house to scare each other.

every time someone exaggerates or lies in the group chat Henry sends this

high school musical 3 is a fascinating journey to go on, because it's not coherent as such, but it hits some very interesting beats before sharpishly walking them back or does some bland needs-to-be-there stuff that it then promptly forgets about (mainly around pairing the spares), because you'd never be allowed to outright depict the highschool romance not lasting into college, or that the father is emotionally overbearing if not abusive in the ways he pressures his son (and ofc there are some queer overtones in the "don't do theatre, do sports!" thing), and you absolutely can't explain why the male best friend who's sleepwalking through a non-romance plot is obsessed with the male lead spending his entire life with him/choosing him over the girlfriend, whom he definitely never really liked

RIP sharpay and ryan are pretty sidelined in this plot (esp considering the growth in the second movie), although at least ryan continues to be an mvp in terms of performance and clothing style, and kelsi brings us more non-binary Fits so there's that

you have tensions that feel like they exist outside the film, hurriedly correcting like it's a slapstick "the show goes wrong" type of deal --

two seconds of kelsi and ryan paying lip-service to pairing the spares, before it's never relevant again, but it's been written now, don't worry, they are Straight, see they composed/sang 1min of a duet that wasn't actually for or about them in the story

another mini-arc that lasts all of 5ish minutes of chad asking out taylor, before both of them phone it in and have separate conversations with their besties about how your boyfriend/girlfriend in highschool isn't that important (and chad of course from then on is only interested in whether troy will go to college with him, like they'd always dreamed of)

gabriella going away early to college some thousands of miles away and calling troy right before prom to say she's not coming back for it, or for graduation, because she's decided not to see him again in order to move forwards with her life, which is a pretty clear boundary to set (if done in a somewhat terrible way), only for him to... get to where she is somehow? and his presence simply convinces her to not care about any of her previous decision-making

troy's dad once again being the worst character while he guilts his son over having an interest in theatre (same as in the last 2 movies), instead of following in his exact footsteps, only for the story to shrug it off at the end, because there was never going to be follow-through on something like that

and I know it's not that deep, don't get me wrong here. I'm just interested as someone who's seeing the bits where the structure it's been building (someone Chose To Write This) get dropped in favour of it not being that deep when... it could be a better, more complex movie, possibly if it weren't disney channel I'm guessing. but then, it didn't have to have these arcs to begin with, it could have been a much lighter story, it chose not to be --

and some of the corners it wrote itself into due to law of sequel character-growth stagnancy, because it's about writing the same story three times with slightly different covers, so chad has to be annoyed with troy for choosing gabriella over hi- uh, basketball? sharpay has to try to steal the show/troy, troy's dad has to guilt him before supporting him, gabriella and troy have to have a moment of Sad before working it out (quickly, the Sad cannot last for too long), etc. but because the structure simply changes when you write a different story (they are going to college after this, they won't be seeing each other every day again), these storylines feel different/get written differently

it's kind of a sad movie overall, with its whole idea of this'll never be forgotten best years of our lives type rhetoric ("Who says we have to let it go? // It's the best part we've ever known // Step into the future... but hold on to High School Musical"), and it brings that sadness into the plot -- it could have gone way harder on "we're so excited for the future and what's to come" but it didn't

I am so into movies like this. poking at them to see all the limitations that exist outside of them that work against telling a good story, but the good story is in there, somewhere. when for some reason production has decided that stagnation is more important. people don't want to see stories about people who change, they want them to stay the same forever (and ideally go back and watch the first movie again afterwards I guess)

anyway troy's "anxiety nightmare in the school" song was actually great + encapsulates 90% of the tension the movie has that it never actually manages to work out, but just brushes under the carpet, it's perfect:

"I don't know where to go // What's the right team? // I want my own thing // So bad I'm gonna scream // I can't choose, so confused // What's it all mean?"

my most formative friendships will always be with the scared-of-balls girls who consistently got picked last with me for team sports in pe and with whom I’d spend the whole period complaining with in loser solidarity <3

#so I made a new friend today:D #no actually I can proudly say I’ve been the last person chosen for teams in pe every single class for the past five years 😎#this one time everyone paired up and the teacher made me play with the wall by hitting the ball at it over and over again ksjhfhhfhjh #(I laugh now but god I cried so much and wrote the longest emo diary entry at 2am that day)#I still stand by my judgement that pe is unnecessary and public humiliation that traumatises you for life #but anywayyy it gave me character development and catalysed some of the best friendships of my life so not complaining #i stopped giving a shit in ninth grade definitely haven’t cried on court since then #I think that’s when I started skipping pe on the regular idk why I thought I was super stealthy then but now I def think it’s badass #when I couldn’t sneak off I’d just spend the whole period complaining with the scared of balls girls or pretending I was troy bolton lmao #ANYWAY I couldn’t sneak off today because the teacher has her eye on me now but I DID make a friend #took me back to my roots tbshouldve known this is how I’d make my first friend in this godforsaken class oh my god #physical excruciation

Winter Apocalypse chapter 41

The Intercontinental Team has arrived!

Roose Bolton returned to the shadows, and the boys continued their way down the corridors, towards the Slytherin common room.

Their feet clattered sadly on the black and silver carpet that completely covered the floor of the Slytherin wing corridors, trying to hurry despite the incessant headache since they had woken up. Who knows what had happened?

They came to an enormous door, made of wood lacquered in a deep, dark green, at least twice as tall as the massive and powerful Randy, and edged with silver that glittered eerily in the green and silver flames of the Dragonglass candles that hung on it. Those candles were difficult to light even for an experienced wizard, and impossible to put out. The obsidian of which they were made had a sharp and pointed appearance, black glass and created by dragons millennia ago, and their extraordinary firepower now extinct.

Randy and Theon walked through the door, opened with a special spell that only they Slytherins knew, and stepped into the common room teeming with students.

The room was a huge open space, also barely lit, in pure Slytherin Gothic style.

The enormous windows, in medieval Gothic style, were tall and narrow, with an imposing and slender shape, and the glass was decorated with colored drawings depicting the great deeds of Slytherins in the history of Westeros. The windows were so tall they reached the ceiling, several feet above their heads and black as a stormy night sky, from which hung enormous chandeliers of black obsidian. Each chandelier, with elegant and refined and at the same time raw shapes, carved into that sharp and dangerous stone - like Slytherins, after all.

The silver and green flames of the candles hanging from the enormous chandeliers helped shed light in that immense, majestic and gloomy room, aided by the various fireplaces, which in turn shone with green and silver lights, and gave off the typical aroma of the Hall, strong and dark, to which Randy and Theon had become accustomed by now: the burning embers under the fire crackled and seemed to scream, while the wood of the Tree of Death, which grew only in the Suicide Forest and took root only in blood, burned.

Near the fireplace, set into the wall and enclosed by large black basalt bricks, Emily was sitting, elegant and beautiful and with skin as pale as the moon and hair darker than her abyss. Emiyl that fateful day wore her hair in two long black and green braids that fell to the sides of her neck adorned with a black leather collar and various silver chains with a black bat-shaped pendant hanging with an emerald gem in the Heart. The black gothic and lace dress she wore was thick and heavy, to protect her from the cold of that day, and on her legs were long thigh-high boots with several buckles and chains hanging from them. She wore heavy black makeup around her eyes, covered by red contact lenses, and her black coat was floor-length and trimmed with lime green ribbon on the back and sleeves, intertwining into various flakes.

As always, she was surrounded by her large group of friends and her inseparable boyfriend, and they were amiably discussing by the warm multicolored fire. The temperatures had dropped further in those days when Randy and Theon had inexplicably missed.

Before Theon could get close to his impossible love Emily, all the students started shouting.

Sheamus, who had remained silent and aloof in a corner the whole time, wrapped in his beige coat and with his nose glued to his emerald green cell phone - probably texting with his best friends, locked in the Ravenclaw common room -, faced the windows, and pulled aside a dusty, dark green curtain that covered one of them.

Outside, a cloud of flying brooms of every color fluttered around the castle towers with unmistakable dexterity.

"The Intercontinental Team has arrived!!" shouted Sheamus, who for the first time was smiling and giggling like a little kid.

The Slytherins, all together, poured from the common room into the gloomy corridors of their part of the house, following the flying brooms that seemed to have landed in the back garden of the castle, where the Quidditch matches were usually held.

Randy and Theon were dragged by the sea of students to the back garden, where the Ravenclaws were already sitting on their personal bleachers.

The Slytherins sat in their designated stands, the ones alongside the Ravenclaws and opposite the Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs.
