I swear, the first case of every lockwood and co book is just there to mock them (ok except maybe the fourth book)
Screaming staircase: they forget the chains, blame each other, fail miserably to not mess up the circle made from iron fillings, burnt down the client's house, accidentally brought the source along back to portland row, and then get themselves deeep in debt.
And that's the best way to start a series, folks.
Whispering skull: they failed to find out that the place was a execution ground, then dig at the ground and stir up so many spirits that kipps' team had to come and save their arses, only to realise that the source was the stone they toppled over at the start 😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yes, I've got to agree with Kipps and Kat on this one.
Hollow boy: they get locked into a room full of ghosts, door bolted shut by iron, by two elderly folks 👵👴. I know they're young, but I'm the same age, can't they say something to those elderly murderers like "you go first, show me around"???
Tumblr media
After that they couldn't even climb up to seal the source because George fell off the ladder. And then:
Tumblr media
I swear, I have to agree with the skull 💀
The empty grave: First they tumble down a dangerous mausoleum
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, when they found the coffin they laughed and turned their backs towards the coffin, which led to the revenant clawing after them...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tell me, could they ever get more stupid?? With Lockwood and Co, obviously yes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look, even Lockwood predicted and warned George about the trap, and he still managed to set it off!! 🤦‍♀️
I'M WHEEZING 😂🤣 I swear, I could laugh at their idiotic tendencies all day. Somehow though, the show definitely made them seem so much more idiotic, I didn't even know that was possible 😂

I often see people saying that they're disappointed with how Locklyle ends in The Empty Grave. Disappointed over the fact that there wasn't a kiss or anything like that.
But c'mon??? Lockwood gives Lucy a necklace as a symbol of his undying devotion, which is probably even more meaningful to him because it was originally his mother's.

I'm sure I'll post more TSS, but for now, have some Shel thoughts on TWS (featuring the British editions, because why deal with the silly American ones, when you can have 3 versions of the books - digital, US paperbacks and English paperbacks? Stroud, you're welcome ◡̈ )
(Clearly, I had trouble prioritizing what passages to pick, and the last one is prime example of how not to highlight, since I underlined the entire page.)
I love these scenes though, because as I've mentioned before, we know that Lockwood and Lucy liked each other very early on, but I think this is one of the first instances we see Lockwood wrestling with his feelings and backing down from them as a result. @dangerously-human posted a brilliant analysis on Lucy's denial of her feelings for Lockwood, and here we see Lockwood grappling with the same denial and ultimately forcing himself to refocus on the mission, as a result. (Side note: When Lucy tells Lockwood they're so similar in the beginning of TEG, it's like yeah, you two are both idiots.)
I get it—Lockwood has lost everyone he's loved, so any feeling close to that, he's going to push back on, because to love someone might mean he'll lose that someone. Isn't that what life has taught him (and yet!! the wonderful miracle of Lockwood is that he just keeps on loving... kind of like my dear ol' boy Harry Potter)?
He legit knows Lucy is watching here, and he's totally showing off for her. When has he ever demonstrated a move like this to George? No, Lockwood is totally flirting with Lucy during this scene.
But then, Fittes comes up. We get a reminder that this isn't any world, despite how immune our heroes seem to be to its horrors sometimes. Lockwood recognizes that ultimately every agent is just a kid risking their life. This is important, because while Lockwood is certainly starting to blur the lines with Lucy, at the end of the photos I've taken, he pulls back. Why? The mission.
He's a kid with a horrible past. In TEG, he mentions that it seemed random—his parents, Jessica— but it wasn't. Up until now, it almost borders on revenge. Obsession. He doesn't have hobbies. He refuses to dwell on the past. He spins and thinks and strategizes about the next case, and then the one after that. He has no sympathy for ghosts. He wants to end them—all that matters is the mission, for the pain it's caused him, for some of the emptiness it's left him.
But then there's Lucy. He gets sidetracked. We even have George noting here that he's surprised that Lockwood has already told Lucy this much. And yet, he still holds back. We don't know who beat him at the Fittes tournament, and he doesn't tell Lucy until TEG.
He's completely in denial here, and even though we see him open up slowly, he still always orients back to the goal at hand, as he continues to struggle with his feelings for Lucy. And so consistently, he refocuses and pushes them aside.
Until we see that he can't after Lucy leaves—how wrecked he was without her. And it isn't really until this point that he truly, really starts to open himself up to her—not his past, not his thoughts as a leader, but himself and how he feels about her.
He takes her to his families graves in TEG, and if that's not a sign of vulnerability, trust, and faith, then I don't what is.
But what I find the most interesting? We don't get that Flo backstory from Lockwood until much later, after the graveyard. Huh. And it comes after Lockwood realizes that his parents didn't die in a random car crash—almost like his life wasn't random at all.
I actually think it's kind of huge that Lockwood saves this last piece of information for last. Because it's a funny story that's meant to cheer Lucy up. Defeating Marissa is important, but it's no longer about the mission at this point. Not really, not anymore. He's found peace with that. It's about Lucy, and I think, in this moment, he fully and 100% accepts his feelings towards her.
Yes, you can argue it happened when he tried to give her the necklace the first time, and it was Kipps who interrupted them, and blah blah blah. But Lockwood could have found a way to give Lucy the necklace again before the attack on PR. But he didn't.
And isn't it interesting that the undying devotion necklace is something still tied to his family? But the Flo story and how she beat Lockwood? Nah, that's all Lockwood, and it's something of him—without the weighty ties to his family, still somehow so wrapped up in the Problem—that he shares with Lucy. And it's this innocent moment, this moment of joy, that's so inherently pure and lovely, and largely unrelated to the bigger threat, that sigh, my heart. This to me, this is the moment. And all these other moments, I've highlighted above set us up for this.

“You’re going to do something stupid,” I said. “I know you. I can tell.”
“That makes two of us, then. What’s your crazy plan?”
“The usual. I was hoping to talk to it and calm it down. Yours?”
“Thought I’d slow it by cutting off its legs.”
“We’re so similar.”

CAPTAIN IT'S ROBIN PLEEEEASE TELL ME ABOUT THE DEATH GAME RPG YOU PUT YOUR FRIENDS THROUGH I LOVE THOSE
ROBIN ROBIN MY DEAR DEAR MUTUAL ROBIN YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT KIND OF PANDORAN BOX YOU'VE JUST OPENED. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE EXECUTION GAMES
The Execution Games (otherwise known as the exgames, or usually teg) is a series of death games run by yours truly, but more Specifically, is run by the hosts: Killer, Hunter, and Ripper. I'll talk more about them later because I can't ever shut up about them, but the players then include, surprise! me again, but also my dear friends :) who enjoy violence like me :) Teg was truly inspired by my obsession with last life and how badly I wanted to play with my friends, plus my inability to play minecraft at the time and my game design and digital storytelling muses, so you can see those influences. A good handful of us play characters that share names with us (helps that many of us have large hoards of names lol) and so p! is used for players, c! for contestants, the characters actually fighting in the games, and then there are also spectators (s!) who mainly watch, but also Can interact with the playing field in limited ways
As far as what the games actually look like, they go on a weekly basis, with wednesday being Execution Day (or exday), where every contestant must draw a card. The contestant who draws the ace is that week's Executioner, though there can be multiple as people lose lives and also become executioner if they draw the 2 or 3. If you're executioner, you need to kill someone by the end of next exday. Simple as that. If you don't, you become the target of the next week's executioner, and you take double damage from their attacks! :)
Now. the hosts. ohhhhhh the hosts. So the thing about teg is that it's a bit of a meta game. There's an item called your talisman that players have to carry around in real life, and if caught without it they're are consequences for their contestant, and all resources for crafting and whatnot come from photos of real life. So in this nature, the hosts are.. weird. They can talk to the players, for one thing. If we consider Killer (any prns), who was originally the sole host of the games and is their creator, well. a lot of players have talked to Killer directly, and more than once. It's a common occurrence. Killer knows the players, and knows the contestants, and knows the difference between them, because a crucial aspect of teg is this: the contestants are the manifestation of the player's desire to play. The games are violent, and deadly, and lead to heartbreak and destruction and anguish. So of course not every contestant might be happy about playing. But if the player is having a good time? sucks to suck <3 that's what it's all about
As far as the other hosts, they're all siblings, but the other two emerged after Killer. Despite this contradiction, Hunter (she/he/they/it/none) is actually the eldest, and while it doesn't do the hands-on hosting that Killer does, she is responsible for the story and lore of teg, as well as the world itself, the playing field, the arena the contestants find themselves in every games. They actually work with Killer in a sandbox to construct the new playing field between games <3 very sweet. What Isn't so sweet is the youngest bitch Ripper (he/she/they/any). This thing is a bastard. and rude. and generally awful. But Ripper's entire purpose is to be on standby in case of Killer's death, which spawned from a point in time where. uhm. some players were considering trying to kill Killer LMAO so yknow. Ripper can Only host if Killer is dead. which makes him a bit salty LOL
But all of that aside ! The point I touched on about contestants being forced to play even if they don't want to (which a lot don't LOL) is the part I think you'd enjoy as far as "forcing my friends to play death games with me ^_^" since as far as the actual players my dear wondrous friends, they ofc aren't forced to play if they don't want lol, but their contestants are held to their whims <3 and it is the job of me and Killer to keep that locked down YIPPEEEEEEEE!!! ^_^!!!
I'm now going to stop talking before this becomes four billion words LOL. but I love teg. There's actually a secret hidden tegblr that is extremely unfinished and hasn't been touched since the first exgames (we're currently on the fourth) but I've been wanting to revamp, and likely will once I'm back at college ! :D and if you want to hear more, there will certainly be more about it there <3 and also if anyone wants to talk more about teg more it is not hard to get me to talk about it. clearly ASDFLJSABDF. it's been my passion project for a couple years now and I love it dearly <3 so yeah. I love putting my friends through my deathgame rpg ^_^

Meet Teg and Eri! Element Nyx are essential to the Earth’s survival. Though, some Nyx go against their jobs and love to cause chaos. That’s where Teg comes in! They along with other volunteers leave their jobs to help Rebel Nyx find their way, or kill them. Teg is assigned Eri :3

This manual is inspired by @lucy-j-carlyle 's plastic bag idea
The Lockwood and Co. Ghost-Hunting Manual
by Lucy Carlyle and George Cubbins, transcripted by George Cubbins and edited by Holly Munro. (Anthony Lockwood? He's too busy flashing his pearly-white teeth on the front page of every magazine in London.)
Handy Agent Tool-Kit for Defence Against Ghosts
Remember, the three principle defenses, in order of effectiveness, are silver, iron, and salt.
Rapier — an agent should never do without one. If you forget yours, you're a wimp. Admit defeat (something I agree on, for once)
Iron fillings — used to create protective circles, mostly against type one manifestations, as stronger type twos can often easily move them. Agents also run the risk of damaging the circle by accidentally stepping on it. (Haha, guess who did this) (it's not me, it was you, Lockwood.) (I'm living with maniacs.) They can also be thrown, causing similar effects to a salt bomb.
Magnesium flares — works well against type twos. Explodes into a shower of beautiful light and temporarily neutralises the apparition or drives them away, until you realise that you're indoors and the whole place is on fire. (Totally not based on experience, totally.)
Iron Chains — for stronger ghosts (Type Twos). At least one per agent to create a protective circle, number of chains depending on the strength of the ghost. (If you do not bring this along with you, well, I hate to recount the details of my second case in Lockwood and Co again. To say a hefty fine is the least of your worries.)
Salt Bombs — causes minor explosions of salt that drive them away or even cause them to dematerialise for a short time. Weak form of defence, usually used against weaker ghosts (Type Ones). Bring at least four of these or lavender sticks, if you want to keep your teammates and yourself happy and healthy.(Safety is never an option, too bad, thou artless, beef-witted coward!) *winks* (shut up Tony, thou bawdy, pottle-deep popinjay!)
Sufficient Lavender sticks/Lavenders - smells nice, works... not so nicely for stronger ghosts and when the smell fades. If you don't know what it means, you can figure it out yourself. Though we are not liable for any of the acts of stupidity you are about to commit. (they mean it's best to always pack fresh lavenders, and avoid old stalks as their scent may not be strong enough to contain the source.) (Oh shut up, Holly)
Ghost-seeing goggles for the old codgers experienced supervisors and field operators (geez, Lucy, really)
Candles, full box of matches, torches, lamps with the shutters, the likes
And lastly, but most importantly, Plastic bags (see note here*)
*This is the latest tool for defence against ghosts, discovered by formidable agent Lucy Carlyle. (she's just under five feet six inches 🤨) (LOCKWOOD!!) Bring at least 5 plastic bags, wrapping them around your agent duffel bags, your backpack, and the occasional annoying teammate or supervisor. At least they'd no longer be a useless pile of ghost-cow droppings an obstruction (George! Lucy! Censored for, well, sanity purposes)
Gosh, I do need to make a Lockwood and Co Ghost Hunting Manual on ao3 or sth (published after teg)
(read the tags, if you'd like)

I kept thinking the attending was saying “tag,” but he was saying “teg.”
Thromboelastography (TEG) is a method of testing the efficiency of blood coagulation. It is a test mainly used in surgery and anesthesiology, although increasingly used in resuscitations in Emergency Departments, intensive care units, and labor and delivery suites. More common tests of blood coagulation include prothrombin time (PT) and partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) which measure coagulation factor function, but TEG also can assess platelet function, clot strength, and fibrinolysis which these other tests cannot.
