It's not a municipal orrery but a municipal orloj

So I was looking through the lyrics for Internal clock municipal orrery and noticed some notes about the connection to the Prague astronomical clock so I searched for Prague orrery only to find that it was actually an astronomical clock and that the two aren't the same thing.

It turns out that the Czech word for astronomical clock is orloj which converted into japanese becomes the オルロイ of the song's title. This isn't a loanword though, as the word seems to only be used when referring to the specific clock in Prague (and the Utena song). So that's pretty conclusive, but also, the japanese version of orerry is オーラリー (oorarii) (only used for the earldom orreries are named after), which isn't even close to the oruroi of the song.

Additionally, the native japanese words used for orloje and orreries are tenmon tokei and taiyou keigi respectively, with tenmon tokei in the official lyrics to explain what an orloj is, given that the average japanese person probably wouldn't know about this one astronomical clock in Prague. Also, orreries, being solar system models, wouldn't have zodiacs on them whereas astronomical clocks would.

So I think it's clear that the translation of Tainai Tokei Toshi Oruroi should be Internal clock municipal Orloj. The real question I suppose is how no-one caught this before. My guess is someone in 1997 thought oruroi sounded similar enough to orrery and they had no clue what else it could be and then everyone copied them even though, as stated before, japanese uses a native word for orreries, it wouldn't be modified to japanese pronounciation in that way and the lyrics literally clarify it's an astronomical clock which isn't what an orrery even is (It was kind of funny to look through a few translations and analyses to see whether anyone had caught this before and see a bunch of people just go "an orrery and an astronomical clock are the same thing" when they just... aren't).

Also, while I don't have a clear idea of what the metaphorical implications of this are, it does give the possibility of a starkly literal interpretation of the first verse, namely as a very straightforward description of the Prague Orloj, top line is the wikipedia description, bottom is my translation of the lyrics: "Death, a skeleton ... on the hour rings the bell and immediately all other figures shake their heads side to side..." A statue of death shakes heads, pulls the cord, tolls the bells "The left and right windows ... slide aside to reveal the apostles ... the rooster ends the introduction of the apsotles by crowing ... "The Walk of the Apostles"" The rooster beats its wings when the windows open the twelve apostles are like dolls unblinking, a grand parade

Maybe try to figure out why the rooster beats its wings instead of crowing, given that that's the only discrepancy in the description Seazer gives?

Myth-making anime fantasy, crafted with Makoto Shinkai's usual opulence, Children Who Chase Lost Voices draws on a variety of legends about the underworld, including Orpheus's journey to Hades to reclaim Eurydice. The protagonist is a young girl, Asuna, who finds herself in a subterranean land called Agartha, accompanied by her teacher, Mr. Morisaki, who knows a good deal, though not enough, about Agartha. He wants to go there to see if he can bring his dead wife back to life. Asuna is driven by curiosity about a strange boy named Shun, whom she met on her wanderings in the hills near her village. They discover that they have to deal with the animosity of the residents of Agartha toward people from the upper world. (The subtitles call them "Topsiders," which for me has a distracting footwear overtone.) It's too creepy and violent for younger kids, and some of its plot points, such as the suggestion that Agartha has been exploited by malign upper-world forces like the Nazis, need better context. But it's never boring and always a treat for the eye.

Shonen Onmyoji Chapter 10.2 Highlights

The story opened up with the narrator giving an explanation of the Imperial Court Positions in the Heian Era. It was said that most of them were hereditary meaning the child of a samurai became a samurai, the child of a musician became a musician, the child of a scholar became a scholar and of course the child of an onmyoji became an onmyoji.

Masahiro was doing chores for the Gagaku (Bureau of Music), Oiryo (Bureau of Palace Kitchen), and Kamoryo (Bureau of Housekeeping) Dormitories.

Mokkun remarked that onmyoji were paid to little for the work they do and suggested that Masahiro ride an Ajiro Cart instead of traveling on foot. Masahiro refused and said that his father and his Uncle Yoshihira also traveled on foot and there was no way he would use it regardless of his grandfather's official rank.

Mokkun said that was the point because onmyoji had special skill job, which were Star Reading, Astronomical Observation, Calendar Making, Blessing Prayer Performance, and Auspicious Judgement and sometimes they get in danger by exterminating Joyo (), which often translates to demons, monsters, and ghosts

They were then greeted by Masshiro’s father, Yoshimasa. Yoshimasa commented that Masahiro seemed to be doing well.

Masahiro informed Mokkun that his grandfather and father received individual requests from the High Lord, which were separate from the salary.

The narrator notified the reader that during that time period each of the great aristocrats had 44 talented onmyoji due to the fact that their fortune-telling skills could decide political situations. That was the reason why Seimei and Yoshimasa were close friends with Michinaga and Yukinari of the Fujiwara Clan.

Mokkun responded and said that was probably true with Seimei and Yoshimasa, but told Masahiro that he would be in charge of chores at the Onmyo Dormitory for a while.

There is a chart that listed the positions in the Onmyo Dormitory, which were:

Mokkun fussed at Masahiro saying that the Direct Delivery Envoy was even a low paying job within the Onmyo Dormitory and the reason why Seimei was just an Onmyo Student until his 40s was because the salary was not worth the work. Mokkun asked if Masahiro could do it.

Yoshimasa spoke up and said that it was true that Seimei had been a long-time Onmyo Student, but that was nearly 40 years ago and said that the country, the imperial court, and the Onmyo Dormitory continued to change.

After Masahiro wondered off Yoshimasa said that Mokkun shouldn’t threaten Masahiro too much because he was still a child.

Mokkun answered and said that Masahiro was much more courageous than he and Yoshihara as infants because Masahiro didn’t cry when he came near him. Mokkun added that because of that Masahiro was truly Seimei’s Grandson.

Yoshimasa thought about how Toda (Mokkun’s real name) never called him and his brother Yoshihara children of Seimei.

Masahiro noticed that his father was in deep thought and asked if Mokkun said anything rude to his father.

Mokkun got angry at this and Masahiro bade farewell to Yoshimasa and said that he will see him at home.

Masahiro announced in front of a crowd that he still wanted to be an Onmyoji and that it was the work of each individual that brought change. Then he swears that he would defeat Abe no Seimei.

Of course Mokkun pressed Masahiro’s berserk button and said “Do your best Seimei’s Grandson” and Masahiro replied with his infamous line of “Don’t Say Grandson” and the chapter ended.
