This latest release was SO GOOD in every way, but this line, especially, was so good for me, because it's so deeply fitting to who Thallen is as a person

Thallen, the hero who doesn't focus on just defeating the bad guy, the hero who wishes to bring hope to the hopeless, and inspire the downtrodden to rise up and stand for themselves, the hero who remains a beacon in dark times, the one who hopes to never stand alone This felt incredibly fitting

role reversal AU with Barry and Iris? :)

So I've written a couple of these before - and I no doubt will again. [I Know (Do You?) and Hurry Up (To Slow Down)] I do enjoy a good role reversal for these two. :D

So in a role reversal specifically from Iris' point of view, I think she'd initially promise not to tell Barry when Joe asks, but quickly realize from Barry's interest in metahumans and the Flash that keeping him in the dark is pretty cruel. Instead of trying to gaslight him about it or talk him out of investigating, Iris would come clean. Forewarned is forearmed and Iris wants him to be safe about things.

Depending on how long it takes for Iris to tell him, Barry may or may not be upset about it. But if he's upset? He gets over it pretty fast. Iris has always been amazing and his hero and so he's so proud of her for being everyone's hero now.

Eobard is not thrilled. In retrospect he realizes that it isn't that surprising that Iris West had the right genes to become a speedster considering Wally West is destined to become a speedster. Or was destined. What does Eobard know. Maybe Linda Park will become a speedster. *he's waving hands wildly while Gideon wonders if she can get smoke to come out of his ears if she says yes*

since Iris was still in college getting her Masters degree at the time, there would be focus on her trying to maintain her GPA while juggling Flash duties and frustration with EoWells perhaps not respecting her class time, maybe her pointing out that she's not exactly getting paid for her Flash work inspires him to create an internship for her so that she does get paid and can't complain about that anymore.

Because, honestly, Iris doesn't have the Jitters job anymore. it's not her fault she couldn't work while in a coma but what are the odds a part time barista job would get held open for her that long?

There's so many ways things could play out relationship wise. I've done both the Westallen and Westhallen routes, but why not some Barriscowest? Or Snowestallen? Snowest & barrisco? Thallen and Newsvibe (is that what Iris/Cisco is called? that's what I'm going with) There are a lot of possibilities and I do enjoy so many different ships.

Iris and the pipeline... I don't know where she'd stand on that. I'd like to think she'd be against it and so that's the track I'd take writing another one of these AUs, because Iris is the voice of reason. But canon probably would have put her on the pro pipeline train if she hadn't been sidelined like she was. :/

I think Iris would probably try harder to talk things out with the metas. Not always a good idea, but she's much more likely to try to de-escalate a situation than Barry is. So she'd probably be able to talk Shawna down, but trying to empathize with Hartley would likely end with him taking advantage of her sympathy. Though she'd also be less sympathetic towards Snart since, unlike Barry, she doesn't really have the experiences Barry has that made him empathize with Len.

Iris would be tempted to go back in time to save Nora because she loves Barry and she wants him to have his mother. Whether or not she actually does it depends on how her conversation with Henry goes. He was not in favor of changing the timeline to save Nora even though he no doubt wanted her to have a chance to live, so he might be able to talk Iris out of it if he can articulate his feelings on the subject well enough.

a lot of this has focused on Iris, but I think Barry would settle well into back up. He'd probably still get a chance to be a battle couple with her similar to the incident with Tony in canon. Maybe the return of Becky Cooper turns out to be a bad thing when she turns out to be a powered stalker with a crush on Barry?

Barry's also got a pretty close friendship with Cisco and Caitlin already by the time Iris wakes up, which I think would factor into Iris ultimately deciding to tell him pretty quickly. Keeping the secret would not only be potentially putting Barry in danger but damaging his new friendships and Iris wouldn't want to do that to him.

Thallen and things said too quietly? :)

Some canon-compliant angst:

"Ever since the beginning, there's been three people in this relationship. You, me, and Barry."

He'd said the quiet part out loud, and it stunned Iris, he could tell. But Iris was fierce and devoted, and she refused to bow to what-could-be.

Barry loving Iris—that was no secret to anyone but Iris. But Iris loving Barry...

Well. Maybe Iris was right. Maybe he was just seeing things.

(Or maybe the way Iris's smile brightened around Barry meant something. Maybe that unease coiling in Eddie's gut...it should be acted on, Eddie knew. Any boyfriend would act if he thought his girlfriend was in love with someone else.)

The thing was, Eddie couldn't even really hate Barry. Aside from Barry being supportive of them...he was also just very kind. Shy, sure, and some might take it as standoffishness, but...Eddie had been the weird nerdy kid before. He knew better.

He was also...well. Eddie tried not to think about how Barry's smile lit up his whole face, how adorable he looked with his eyes crinkled up at the edges.

(That smile was rarely for him anyway. It was for Iris. That was the whole crux of the problem.)

Anyway. The point was, Barry was too kind and hands—charming to dislike. Eddie couldn't bring himself to. So instead...somehow, he and Barry became friends.

It was a double-edged torment. Barry's affections toward Iris became clearer every time they got together, and Iris clearly felt...at least somewhat the same way, and Eddie...

Well. Eddie's heart was being torn in two directions, but he was fine. Really. He could manage.

"Ever since the beginning, there's been three people in this relationship. You, me, and Barry."

"Eddie!" Iris screamed, then so did Barry, rushing over to him, shaking him desperately.

Eddie choked out what last words he could: "That's all I've ever wanted to be. Your hero."

He said it with a smile to Iris...but as he turns his eyes to Barry...

But their gazes didn't connect. Barry would never know...Eddie wanted to be his hero too. It was only fair, after all—even a hero needed a hero.

You're my hero, Barry Allen. And I love you. And...now you'll never know.

It was a good thing, perhaps, that dead men couldn't cry.

talk shop tuesday - do you have any fic ideas you want to write but just haven't gotten around to yet?

So many. That's actually why the AU Snippets series was started, I kept having like one scene of a fic and liked it but didn't have enough time to write the rest.

But yeah, there's part of a Cynco Little Mermaid (kind of) AU that's at a quick glance been in my notes since 2018. A probably Snowest Snow White AU. An originally Thallen now Westhallen Frog Prince AU (that one I really do want to write) (This was after writing a couple of other fairytale AUs and thinking of how to play around with them).

I kind of want to go back to Bluff Check and Altomcumulus Castellanus and write sequels but haven't sat down and thought about them enough yet.

There's the much more recently noted down barely there yet and deliberately not written yet note for an honestly probably crack fic titled "Batman: A Pantomime by the Gotham Amateur Dramatics Society" which will be a series of e-mails of the behind the scenes utter chaos as the director and script writer get visited by half of Gothams villains and half its heroes (also Superman) all weighing in their input (this is deliberately waiting until closer to Christmas, and for me to read some Golden/Silver Age Batman because I think that's the vibe I want to go for for Gotham.)

Apparently I noted down a Julia/Magnus Adventure Zone role reversal in 2019 where instead of razing Raven's Roost Kalen kidnaps Magnus and Julia goes around meeting the rest of the gang through various (mis)adventures, and the first half of the notes are really detailed and the second after I drop the joke I wrote the whole thing to make are just "and then they all save the day the end" so I was thinking I should just scrap that one but actually maybe I should just write the scene with the joke and stick that in the AU Snippets folder.

And I have a one sentence note that just says "how does Bart Allen find shoes" but that's not so much a plotted idea and more Bart has massive feet and I need his secrets to shoe finding because the women's section stops one size below mine and apparently most of the men's starts one size above and I spent three days working in broken shoes until I could go to Brighton and found one single pair of mens shoes that would fit and are black and now these are also breaking and I'm going to cry if I have to go buy new shoes. I'm just going to gaffa tape them

There's just so much to write and not enough time to write it all.

of legacies and lies - Alex Thompson, Jack Thompson’s granddaughter, goes on the run after the SHIELDRA reveal, and has to deal with the fact that her entire career in SHIELD has been a lie. Meanwhile Jack and Sarah - his wife - are making sure she’s going to get a fair trial when she reaches the US.

a god’s reflection - Loki’s POV after his initial imprisonment post-Avengers as he thinks about his actions, and regrets that he’ll never really have a chance to make amends because he’ll likely be imprisoned for the rest of his life.

when one door closes (another opens) - On Earth-4 in the 22nd Century, Brianna Thawne (Eddie’s distant descendant and her generation’s Cobalt Blue) takes Sara Lance up on her offer to join the Legends.

now we have (the freedom to choose) - an AU of Legends’ S1 finale. Kendra isn’t the only one dealing with destiny, but Carter too - and since he’s the one who always remembers first, it’s unlikely he’s ever had much chance to be with other people like Kendra has. Featuring a more self-aware Carter and a heart to heart with Sara Lance.

you’ve always been (a part of me) - A Seg/Adam fic set 40 years after Krypton’s S2 finale, where they’ve been together almost as long - and Seg is hit with the realization that he’ll eventually outlive Adam.

speak (and i’ll listen) - a short MonWinn fic set in an AU of Supergirl S2 (the AU being that they’re together, and not Mon and Kara). Winn stresses over not being able to stop Music Meister. Mon does his best to comfort him.

to new beginnings - A Westhallen short fic written for Polyam Shpping Day #14, set in an alternate season 2 and featuring the three of them discussing New Year’s resolutions.

brothers (lost and found) - the first part of Cobalt Blue and The Flash, where Barry Allen and Malcolm Thawne have been best friends for six years, with Barry essentially taking on the role of big brother due to Malcolm’s estrangement from his own brother. When Malcolm gets struck by lightning while trying (and failing) to prevent Barry from suffering the same fate, he wakes up five months later with speedster powers, and unbeknownst to him this changes everything.

doubt (and the bonds of love) -  Another short MonWinn fic, set in an alternate S3 where Mon-El never left Earth. Mon-El has become distant all of a sudden and Winn is determined to find out why.

to live and rise (and hope again) - longfic about Eliana Kent, Clark and Lana’s daughter from an alternate universe, as she experiences a massive power boost, becomes a hero, and joins the DEO, while still dealing with her family’s loss and having to work with two of their counterparts.

the future (is ours) - a short Thallen fic, set in a AU where Iris is the Flash, Eobard got defeated without any casulties, and Barry and Eddie are dating - Eddie second guessing his relationship with Barry after Eobard’s manipulations.

Nicee! Thanks for these. I actually was just writing a scene for The Soul of Iddia that has “Is that a threat” in it. I literally just finished typing it up, so it’s rough, but enjoy. It’s an entertaining (I hope) interaction between Vilanna the protagonist and Orrain the antagonist. *******************Vilanna stood up andturned to guide everyone out of the tavern when she found a familiar facesmirking at her."Well, look whatthe sea dragged in. I'm surprised you've made it this far, Vilanna."Orrian was all smiles, keeping up façade of a pleasant meeting."The Birth Motherwatches over me and protects me from those who would do me harm. It's a shameyou aren't so protected. Nor are your employees." Orrain's smile fadedand he stepped up towards her. His much lower height left her smirking down athim as he snarled at her. "My employees? What do you know of them? Did youharm Thallen? Where is she?" "Oh dear, he seemsto be upset, Vilanna. He is of a delicate nature, perhaps don't upset him. Hemight faint. The poor dear." Boregan was glaring daggers at the blonde manin front of her. Orrain was ultimately responsible for what had happened toAleadn and Tor and no one had forgotten. "We wouldn't wantthat. If he hits the floor, he'll split his head open." Vilanna leaneddown as she spoke, words coming from clinched teeth."Is that a threat?Are you threatening me? Me? That is a mistake!" "I'm notthreatening you. I'm cautioning you. You continue to cross me, or hurt myfriends and I will end you. This had better be the last time we cross pathsOrrain. Even if I took the artifact off, I'd throw it in a volcano before I'dgive it to you." She took a step forward using her massive size to pushhim back.The times she hadcrossed Orrain before, he had been alone, or with Gal. At least she hadn't seenanyone else. Now, she noticed a dwarf and a half-orc standing behind him. Shemet both their angry gazes with one of her own. Her hand went to one of herblades, clearly daring the muscled half-orc to even attempt to start somethingwith her. He didn't move and her eyes went back to Orrain. "You have aproblem. Not only are you off your rocker trying to kill my family, my friends,but you're out numbered, outmatched and out classed. I know you have grandintentions to save the world, but you're not the only one who can save thisworld. If you could do it, she'd have picked you. Maybe think on that abit." She took another step, sending him stumbling back into the half-orc."Now, if you'll excuse us, we have an appointment."Orrain straightenedhimself, pulling at his ornately embroidered green tunic. "As, do I.""Aren't you aspecial boy? Go along and play. The adults have work to do Orrain." Davinapatted his cheek as she walked by, the entire group passing his, but Aleadnstopped in front of him.Dralisa pulled onVilanna's hand, pointing back. The goliath braced herself, but wanted to letAleadn say what he had to say. There were no words. He just pulled back andpunched Orrain with all he had in the gut using his constructed hand. Orraindoubled over, gagging and about to lose his lunch."You areresponsible for what happened to me. I will make you pay. Somehow, some day, Iwill have my vengeance." No one say a word,just letting Aleadn fight his way past them and out the door

“those bastards.” / “if i ever get my hands on them…”  for Thallen please!

This one ended up much longer than I expected, because finding an endpoint was tricky 😂 under the cut for length:

Eddie thought finding out Barry’s identity would make things easier. He’d be fully on the loop, he wouldn’t worry so much about the guy he’d come to…

To…love? It was true that he and Iris, although they’d come close, had never actually started dating, but…still, to think of Barry that way…

Still, it wasn’t so off-putting. It was more just that Eddie was…nervous, really. He’d loved Iris, but Iris hadn’t seen him the same way. Not that she needed to, Eddie treasured her friendship dearly, but it meant Eddie didn’t entertain the thought of having any more of a chance with someone like Barry Allen, who had taken some time to come around to him.

Things had gotten better over time…and Barry telling him that he was the Flash was a culmination of their friendship that Eddie was deeply touched by. But contrary to his belief, it didn’t make things easier.

In fact, it made things harder—because on top of worrying about his growing feelings for Barry, he now had to keep Barry’s identity a secret from the others on the force (except Joe, apparently), and Iris…and he had to share the resounding worry of every close friend of a superhero.

And his first experience with that…was when Barry showed up on his doorstep, bleeding from a wound on his head, his cowl down, and muttering in a daze, “You were…closest…”

“Who did this to you?” Eddie demanded, holding him by the shoulders as he guided him inside. “If I ever get my hands on them—”

“No! No…” Barry grabbed his hand, wincing as his head throbbed against. “Just…just help me.”

“Caitlin…?”

“Too…far.” Barry winced. “Hurts…”

“I’ll call her. Just…you just sit here, okay? Let me just grab something for your head.”

Barry nodded, settling on Eddie’s sofa and holding a hand to his head to stem the bleeding. Eddie, meanwhile, bustled into the kitchen to grab some ice, and tried very, very hard not to think about how right it felt, to have Barry show up on his doorstep when injured and settle on his couch like this.

As he went, he called Caitlin, explaining the situation.

“Did you check him for a concussion?”

“Ah…” Eddie winced. “No. Forgot that part.”

Caitlin sighed. “Well, do that, and let me know.”

So Eddie rushed back to Barry, handing him the ice pack to press against his head. “Hey Bar? Can you tell me what happened?”

“Yeah…yeah, I can.” Barry winced, though he thankfully looked a bit more clearheaded than before. “I went after Captain Boomerang on my own—don’t look at me like that, I didn’t name him—and a rogue boomerang hit me when I wasn’t paying attention. Eddie?” Barry squeezed his hand. “Come on, don’t look at me like that. I’m fine.”

“Fine? You’re bleeding! You’re, like, half-dazed, or…or something—“

“Less than before. Still a little dazed, but…further from a concussion than before. Which is what you and Cait are worried about, right?” He smiled softly. “But…do me a favor? Don’t go running after him trying to play hero. That’s my job.”

“It’s mine,” Eddie insisted. “I’m the police officer here.”

“And I’m the Flash,” Barry grinned.

Yeah, Eddie thought, dazed at the sight of Barry’s bright smile. That you are, Bar.

Barry tilted his head. “What’s that look for?”

“What?” Eddie blushed. “Nothing. I was just…you must need something else.”

Barry shook his head, still studying him with a curious smile. “Nope, nothing like that. But I do have a theory.”

“Oh? And what theory would that be?”

“Well…maybe I’ve gone a little loopy after all, but…if you’ll let me, I want to try something. Stop me, by the way,” he added, “if this gets weird or anything.”

“Okay…but what do you…?” But the closer Barry got, the closer in Eddie leaned too…until there was nothing else for it: Eddie closed the gap between them, and Barry reciprocated in kind.

They burst apart only seconds later, when Eddie asked, “But…Iris…?”

“Somewhere along the way these past few months,” Barry said softly, “I realized…I wasn’t in love with Iris anymore. I was in love with her very kind, very handsome blond best friend.”

Eddie blushed. “Well…you’re not so bad yourself, Flash.”

Barry smiled, leaning in to kiss him again, and Eddie met him in the middle.

When they finally came up for air, Eddie quickly excused himself to call Caitlin.

“No signs of a concussion?” Caitlin sighed. “Well…he still needs to be monitored overnight and the next day, just in case. I could be there in 30 minutes and take him. Or you could let him stay overnight with you and bring him to STAR tomorrow. Whichever you want.”

Eddie glanced at Barry, who was now lying down on the sofa, half-asleep already, and looking…peaceful. So peaceful. It would be cruel, he thought, to wake him now.

(And he knew he’d hardly be able to sleep unless he knew for sure that Barry was alright.)

“He can stay here,” Eddie said. “I don’t mind. I’ll bring him to STAR Labs tomorrow.”

“Thanks, Eddie.”

“Sure thing. Have a good night, Caitlin.”

“You too.”

And as he hung up…Eddie looked over at Barry, who had completely succumbed to sleep now, and smoothed a hand over his forehead, smoothing the stress-formed wrinkles that had formed there.

There was so much about Barry that Eddie still didn’t know…so many questions he still had.

He knew about Barry’s mom. About his dad. About the accelerator that gave him powers. But…it was one thing to know something and another thing to know it.

He didn’t know the extent of Barry’s struggles. They were friends, but…not close ones. And Eddie found himself wishing that he could.

I wish I could take all this from you. I wish you never had to know the kind of pain you do.

He couldn’t, he knew. It was a fruitless thing, to try taking pain away from someone. It couldn’t be done—pain could be healed from, but not removed.

If Eddie was lucky, perhaps he could be part of that healing one day. But at the very least, he’d settle for being someone Barry loved and trusted.

That kiss was certainly a magical beginning, in any case.

Kamin the Apprentice

Meet my new Dragonfable OC, Kamin!

Still at a rather young age compared to most other characters (around 16), the genderfluid Wind Elf Kamin isn’t a full on hero. In fact they don’t plan on becoming one, rather they wish to become a craftsman. Apprenticing under Thallen after growing fascinated with his technomagical and enchanted creations and wishing to learn how to create them, they generally follow him around, being good friends with Falwynn as fellow apprentices.

They first met Thallen upon losing their arms during an incident in which Thallen attempted to, but failed to save them. Out of guilt for being unable to save them, Thallen crafted prosthetic arms, which led Kamin to develop their interest in his brand of magical craftsmanship.

They’re usually rather shy, hovering just out of reach when around people they don’t know, but can be rather energetic and very curious when they grow to trust people. They’re also extremely nonconfrontational, preferring to flee conflict and letting Thallen handle it.

My other Dragonfable heroes

I mentioned before that I have a full account of characters on Dragonfable. I want to share them too, but since they’re all not as developed as the Varsen siblings, being much more secondary, and I don’t want to spam the tag with each of them individually, I’m gonna put them all in one big post, under the Read More.

Leonas Shieldmane

The tallest and buffest of all of my characters. Despite his intimidating look and heavy armor, Leonas is actually the softest bean. A gentle giant who’s not always the smartest in the room, but is still a genuine and friendly person (so yes, a himbo). He’s always willing to give you the softest hugs if you ask, which is quite a feat to manage for someone in heavy armor.

Despite being in the Rose, he only wishes to help people and hopes to protect the innocent from harmful magic. He always puts focus on his large Rose-emblazoned shield, hoping to use it to defend civilians. He’s also very good with kids (I have this vivid mental image of him just piggybacking a bunch of kids on his back from a village the Rose just defended while the rest of the Rose is conducting business with the adults of the village.) 

He absolutely refuses to ever take his helmet off. Most people assume he’s hiding scars or disfigurement behind it.

My buff boy has one braincell in his head and it's dedicated to giving good hugs.

Aelirria Deepglaive

A no-nonsense, task focused Water Elf Battle-Priestess. Aelirria was once one of the guardians of the water orb’s tower, before falling prey to Kathool’s corruption. She was freed of this corruption by the end of the water orb saga, but still suffers from PTSD and nightmares about it, the latter of which always causes panic attacks worrying Kathool is returning. Following those, she will often swim up to the surface, spending the night on a small island she discovered, hoping dry land will keep her safe from Kathool. This fear of Kathool’s corruption is one of the only thing she will visibly show fear at.

She’s a skilled tactician and warrior, able to combine melee fighting skills with water magic in combat. (the riftwalker armor is mostly there because it felt like it could be used as an elven armor too)

In book 3, she now mostly spends her time underwater, helping her people rebuild and keeping them safe from the Rose’s incursions. She only ever goes up to the surface to help if the threat becomes a risk for them too (like during the Calamity Saga, where she helped Thallen during the finale)

Lysander Chrisanti

A vampire blood-mage and a proud member of Safiria’s court. Lysander’s outward relaxed and uncaring attitude hides a vicious and aggressive combatant when provoked.

So far, Lysander is one of my least developed character, although I wish to work on him a bit more. This post might be updated once I have more on him

Sanya Borowska

A Chaosweaver from Azaveyr, Sanya started off as an orphaned student in Edelia, before being kicked out and branded a chaosweaver after an incident in which she violently attacked a classmate using soulweaving, apparently in retaliation for her friend’s bullying.

In order to survive, she first turned to theft, being a local street rat with the help of her soulally, Wisp, the Wind-attuned Elemental Spirit of Mischief. She eventually turned to bounty hunting to make meets ends. The process slowly corrupted Wisp, whose mischief went from playful to tormenting towards those she saw as enemies. (Wisp is still friendly and playful with her friends however)

She’s not outright good or evil, being a lot more morally in the middle. She’s like Circe in a sense, although she keeps a much more professional demeanor. She’ll help whoever gets her enough money to survive. The only rule in her bounty hunting : no harming children.

Sanya most often projects a silent and tough exterior, a sharp contrast to her bubbly and excitable soulally. However, she has shown a softer side towards children. (which made me realize after that I basically made her like the Mandalorian. Tough on the outside, but give her an orphaned child and she will do everything to defend them. That wasn’t on purpose.)

I’m slightly late for this week’s Hero Appreciation Day, but here are a few fun facts about the Varsen siblings in my Mechquest and Dragonfable game! Maybe at some point I’ll talk more about their AdventureQuest and AQW versions, but for now these are my favorites.

About their parents :

The Varsen father is called Aryn Varsen. He was a chronomancer who one day disappeared after an experiment gone wrong. His children don’t know whether he survived or not, but this left them apprehensive of chronomancy, despite being taught about it

The Varsen mother is called Leera Varsen, although it was a new name she adopted to hide. She was a refugee from a more controlling kingdom (the Thenastrin Imperium in Mechquest, the Magesterium in Dragonfable. Dunno about the other two games). Pre-Reset, she was a skilled engineer with intimate knowledge on melding magic and technology. Post-Reset, she kept those skills, becoming an artificer of sorts.

Leera suffered from intense paranoia and fear that people would betray her and sell her position to the kingdom she fled from. After her husband disappeared, she became certain that his disappearance was caused by those she was fleeing and went into hiding with her two child.

Thallen and Aleena spent most of their childhood without any social interactions as a result, only leaving the home once they were old enough to do so.

Aleena, being as hot headed as she is, left the home much earlier.

Mechquest facts :

Aleena loves listening to music when piloting her mecha. She modded her mecha’s cockpit to play music full volume to get her pumped up.

She’s also quite the good dancer as a result, as well as actually playing the electric guitar.

(this is in reference to me playing music whenever playing Mechquest due to its lack of prominent soundtrack)

As briefly mentioned in a previous post’s tags, Aleena is the Hero of Soluna in my playthrough.

Considering this, it means that the game starts in Thallen’s second year at GEARS.

While Aleena is the one in the frontlines doing all of the playable missions, Thallen isn’t just hanging back in Soluna.

During the war, he usually acted as mission control for Aleena. He’d stay in their ship orbiting the planet, or in a nearby area on the planet, and assist Aleena.

In most quests where the player gets message from the questgiver, in my version of it Thallen would be with them and chime in.

He also fixes Aleena’s mechs after the fights.

Additionally, Thallen picked up a bit of first aid from Nurse Helia so that he can patch up his sister whenever she narrowly misses an ejection because she got too confident.

He’s done the “if you die out there I’m coming into the afterlife just to chew you out for this!” type of trope to his sister over the comms quite a few time whenever she did something especially reckless.

aThallen and Aleena take house pride seriously and have a friendly rivalry going on. 

I could 100% see Thallen as a questgiver in GEARS hanging out and giving the player quests to help him get components for his latest mech design, which would then be offered as a shop after the quest.

Perhaps I’ll commission art following that Dragonfable trend a while back of drawing OCs as NPCs for that at some point in the future

Dragonfable facts :

Thallen’s scarf bandana thing is soulwoven. It also has a small bird sigil embroidered on it that, while blue by default, will sometimes change colors to fit his mood (a canon feature of soulwoven cloth that I feel should be used more often because it sounds fun!) 

It also used to belong to his mother, the embroidered bird being the symbol of the enchanter’s guild where she once worked before leaving. 

For a while after getting Dragonlord customization, Thallen wore the crop-top renegade armor because I was like why not. Therefore I headcanon him as completely the sort of person who would casually wear a crop top.

Post-Reset, Thallen still has very vague memories of the Mechquest timeline, although they feel barely tangible and dreamlike. He will often get pangs of melancholy and solitude whenever something unconsciously reminds him of his after-work hours spent with Tek, who he hasn’t found post-Reset.

Tek actually appeared in Thallen’s version of the Aspenvale Academy dream sequence, in which she faced many disappearance glitches similar to Tomix. Thallen has been trying to understand and remember who this pink-haired woman was as a result, leaving him deeply perturbed.

Thallen is very involved in the Vind, being a member of the rebellion to an official level.

Meanwhile Aleena, while she assists the Vind during some missions, remains too withdrawn and hard to contact to be considered as a member of the Vind.

The only time Aleena has been actively helping in any scenario rather than appearing and disappearing in hit-and-run tactics is during the Proclamation War.

In there, Aleena has been bodyguarding the Golden Hand. Not out of care for them, but rather so she can keep an eye on them as she does not especially trust them.

And also so she can push them to be faster to limit the damage caused by the rifts.

She also frequently voices her distrust of the Rose during it.

She still limits interactions and keeps her helmet up during the whole war, so as to not break her Brass Angel vigilante persona.

I’ve been in a very Mechquest mood as of late, replaying through the whole game on Aleena, so as a result my mind was more on Mechquest facts. This could change by next week, we’ll see. 

I’d have put more facts on their chronomancy, but I’ve already talked a bit about it in another post today

I’m thinking of writing up a timeline of events for the Varsen siblings going through the events of Dragonfable (and maybe one for MQ) and how it affected them personally, it’ll probably be made up for next week’s Hero Appreciation Day
