Nobody, nothing: The bridge of the Enterprise, Q and Lwaxana Troi, stand in silence, focusing their attention on the captain.
Jean-Luc Picard: What is the meaning of this?
Q and Lwaxana Troi: Ignoring the captain.
Q: Ten out of ten?
Lwaxana Troi: Ten out of ten.
Q and Lwaxana Troi: They nod in agreement, going back to admiring Jean-Luc's incredible legs in his fabulous dress uniform.

ONE MORE TIME, PLEASE
In STP S2's Monsters episode, I thought it was Bashir that Picard was in the therapy session with.
Surprise! It wasn't Alexander Siddig (?), but actor James Callas of Battlestar Galactica fame.
Anyways, I looked him up, and in his filmography on different websites and in Memory Alpha Star Trek, his credit is not Julian Bashir, but Maurice Picard/ "illusory" psychiatrist!
This then raises the question again, Was it actually Q disguised and playing the psychiatrist? 😳
If Q was involved, either actively or passively, it's either one of two choices:
A. It WAS Q because he was trying to help Picard figure out that his father wasn't a monster, thus guiding Picard to * suddenly* realize that Q wasn't one either and that Picard should "know" Q (love him). And that by the psychiatrist literally handing him the Sun model and drawing, it reminded Picard of something he loves, which is Q.
Picard said that the therapy session was antagonistic. Sounds like a certain desperate and in love omnipotent entity scrambling to help his beloved capitaine confront and overcome long-standing CPTSD, so that he could open his heart to love before said entity died. Q was literally running out of time before his death. He would've HAD more time if the writers hadn't been farting around so much with all of the other characters' dramas. But, I digress.
The psychiatrist practically needles Picard throughout the therapy session about him being closed off from his heart and slams his decision to engage in a suicide mission just so that he didn't have to face his feelings. Sounds like Q is trying to save Picard AGAIN! This "psychiatrist" was really pushing pushing Picard during the therapy session.
It makes me think of what JDL had said about Q in Season 2:
"The intentions (towards Picard) are the same. I'm still Picard's main squeeze. And I'm pushing."
Or...
B. Picard's own mind came up with this psychiatrist because he desperately wants to heal, not hide away his feelings.
Therefore, if Picard's own mind is being so emotional about hiding AND inserting Q's Sun representation twice, which then makes Picard wake up and tell Talinn all that Qcard stuff about the lesson being about *knowing* him, then Picard is internally struggling to overcome his resistance towards his feelings--of love--for Q. 😭😭😭
When I first watched this episode, I couldn't figure out why Bashir was the mysterious psychiatrist because he kept vascillating between mocking and deriding Picard's call to duty, and then showing deep concern that had an almost personal pain to it for Picard's closed off heart.
Siddig and Callis do look practically alike.
But for this Qcard lover, knowing that it's definitely not Bashir changes that whole episode for me.

Having been your mutual for a couple months now as a non-Qcard shipper*, I'll have you know that the Qcard shippers scare me more than any other Star Trek ship fanbase. I mean this in a good way.
*I find their relationship intriguing and I've definitely reblogged fanart a couple times, but I'm not interested in reading fanfiction or anything, yk.
Then I would advise you to unfollow me if you don't wanna see any more fanfiction cuz this is a Qcard blog, and in this fandom we love to support each other and reblog each other's works. Have a nice day!

Deja Q Rewatch: Qcard Analysis
I am rewatching every Q episode of TNG (which means Qpid is next! Yippee!) and I thought I’d like to write a bit about this…
First of all, MY POOR BOY IS A HUMAN AND EVEN HIS LOVE INTEREST DOESN’T BELIEVE HIM. He literally requested to be sent to the Enterprise. Why? Because Picard is “the closest thing [he] has to a friend”. I posted this in the Qcard Fic Discord server, but I have a theory that yes, Q has been attracted to Picard for some time, especially during Q Who. Bro nearly kissed JLP’s ear. But he wasn’t fully aware of it. He enjoys Jean-Luc’s company. He wants affection. Now here he is, experiencing human emotions. Along with all of that fear and anxiety of feeling pain and such, and maybe a little bit of butterflies in his stomach?? I had a theory of an off-screen moment that might have gone something like this, perhaps in the few moments it must have taken to replicate 10 chocolate sundaes, right before Guinan shows up:
Q: Data… I may have felt a different sensation in my stomach earlier, when I first was dumped here by the Continuum.
Data: I’m listening.
Q: Sort of… fluttery. I-I’m not sure. It didn’t feel like… hunger.
Data: It could be possible it was a sort of nervousness.
Q: I’ve been feeling nervousness all day. I only felt this way near Jean-Luc. Maybe even a bit while I was omnipotent.
Data: It could be possible you feel some form of romantic or sexual attraction to Captain Picard.
Q: Sex with… Jean-Luc? For a robot, you have a sense of humor!
Data: …I am an android.
Q: Whatever!
Even if that didn’t happen, Q may have figured it out himself that fluttery feeling he got around Picard was love because after Deja Q, he was flirting even more!!! “Mon capitaine” starts to stick!!! Qpid, the way he was on the couch!!! Tapestry, flowers for John-Luck Pickerd!!!
THE IMMORTAL BED SCENE.
Now, I am going to discuss “Red alert” below the cut but a few other things first:
It was so hard for him to manage. My boy full of fear. Yet it’s that thing he has for Picard that keeps him forgiving him even when he’s pushed out of the way. Also, Q is not interested in “human interpersonal relationships”. In truth? As he sorts through his feelings for Picard, he’s still the only human he cares for. Riker was just for the Continuum. He could care less about Riker now that he knows for sure Riker could care less for the Continuum’s abilities. It’s all Picard. Definitely could care less about Geordi. Worf’s a Klingon, but he could care less about Microbrain as well.
And now to discuss Q’s sacrifice. Obviously he did some thinking after Data saved him. It is possible in this moment he realized he loved Picard and would do anything to protect him. So he takes the shuttlecraft. He would die for him. And he’s teased by Q2. “Selfless”. He knows the Calamarain would destroy the Enterprise to get to him, which means the death of everyone on the ship, including Jean-Luc. And of course he was growing depressed in that human form. But as Q2 said, there was a selfless aspect to this.
That selfless aspect? Q’s feelings for Picard.
Alright, on “Red alert”…
He’s naked in front of Picard. He can’t control the smirk that shows up on his face when he lands there. This is definitely Q’s more sexual emotions for JLP, and what if…
What if, he got a, yknow, a 🦴?
Just saying. He doesn’t know what happened. He might have had a guess. Why is it doing that?
Well, Q…
And that’s all I’ll discuss that. If you made it this far, thank you for reading my thoughts on this episode and how it sets up Qpid and Tapestry, and ultimately All Good Things… Now I didn’t mention True Q, and I believe @stellarred mentioned this in one of their posts at some point, but the reason we barely got any Qcard there is because Continuum business. But wait, Hide and Q was similar in nature. Well, Riker was closer to Picard so it was different. Besides, he was more of a free-range carefree Q then, before the fear of being a human set in. Okay that’s the real end of the essay.

I see that you are a Q fan
But are you a Qcard fan?
hi, thanks for the ask!!
Qcard is simmering with me rn because I'm only just onto s2 of tng, and there's only so much I can see of their relationship unfolding through tumblr! (although I did watch the clips from Picard s2 on youtube the other night cuz I'm probs not gonna watch it and it made me very emotional.) From what I have seen though, I definitely do see it!
I think I'm also just crushing a bit too hard on Q rn so maybe when that wears off and I've watched more of the show I'll be able to answer this a bit more concisely lmaooo

more evidence of a possible cut qcard solarium scene. shared by official star trek twitter alongside other caps from the show, this time matching the show’s screen size. this definitely wasn’t just a photo taken on set, this had to be from a filmed, completed scene. and this is just so weird how they’re posting it on social media and acting like it was included in the episode ?

2.10 sneak peek mini-meta (2/2)
All right, folks. It’s time for the second trailer madness post.
The trailer is literally 30 seconds long, and I’ve managed to squeeze two posts out of it. Imagine how crazy the episode itself is going to be!
Anyway, onwards!
(Major spoilers under the cut.)
Two Renees
So Queen Agnes told us:
“To succeed, there must be two Renees. One who lives, and one who dies.”
At first, I wondered if she meant it metaphorically: parallel timelines, for example.
But now from the look of the trailer’s, I think it may be more literal:
Tumblr media
(By the way, I’ve been trying to figure out what this device is, or if I’ve seen it before, but no luck. If you know what it is, drop me a line and I’ll edit the post.)
But considering Estonia is wearing the same clothes as Renee, it may be that she intends to take Renee’s place, so the silver device could be meant to disguise her.
Edit: @ellewood117 found it! It’s actually Renee’s sailboat pendant we see in 2.5 when we first learn about Renee:
I had been wondering about Estonia’s narrative purpose in season 2. Early on, like most people, I wondered if she was actually Laris. But looking at Laris’ canon life, it seems difficult, if not impossible.
According to canon, Laris was a Tal Shiar operative, along with her husband Zhaban:
Tumblr media
After meeting Picard during the Romulan crisis, she and Zhabhan defected from the Tal Shiar around 20 years before season 2, and have been with Picard ever since. Estonia looks roughly the same age as Laris, so when, exactly, would she have been a Watcher? And given how much she loved Zhaban, he would be with her, unless she became one after his death. But then she would definitely know who Jean-Luc is.
Timeline-wise, it makes no sense.
Besides, the only practical purpose of bringing Laris herself into the story would be if they intended to pursue a Picard/Laris romance: but in that case, they would have used their time together in S2 to deepen their romantic connection.
Thankfully, they haven’t. In 2.9, they had a the perfect opportunity for deep longing looks, or even (god forbid) an attempted kiss. Anything to signal an “oh” moment from Picard, who, might I remind you, left Laris without a backward glance in 2.1 (more on that in the upcoming retrospective).
So if they intended to pursue Laris as serious LI, they would need to show Picard realizing her importance to him. Having Estonia be Laris, and showing them growing romantically closer, would work.
But no. Nothing.
Even their half-hug, while sweet, remains pointedly platonic, lacking intimacy:
Tumblr media
She’s hugging him more than he’s hugging her, and they’re out of step, not fully facing each other. Estonia is seeking to comfort him but her narrative role confines her to the sidelines.
Now compare the above with Picard hugging Deanna and Will:
Tumblr media
(If we ever get a Qcard hug, I guarantee it will be a full hug like the above.)
And now it seems Renee may sacrifice herself for her Picard (or at the least strongly consider it) to save both her and the timeline.
Wait, what? Could Estonia be yet another Q mirror?
Let’s recap:
Estonia is a Watcher, "an agent who would protect the tapestry of history," although in her case, she’s protecting a single thread: the first Picard.
She’s been watching over Renee from afar. She admires her, knows her better than anyone. But she’s keenly aware of her struggles.
Since she’s met Picard in 2.4, she’s been walking him through her trauma, going into his mind to help him, encouraging him to follow his memories all the way to his mother’s death...
All things Q isn’t able to do himself for his own Picard, but almost certaintly desperately wishes he could.
(By the way, it will never stop being hilarious to me that what convinces Picard Estonia isn’t Laris is that she doesn’t know who Q is,
Tumblr media
She doesn’t know his space husband, so she can’t be Laris, because you just know Picard has been talking everybody’s ears off about Q for years.)
And now, like Q, Estonia intends to save her Picard, ready to lay down her own life if need be (although it may not be necessary), choosing to be the “Renee who dies” so that the real Renee can live.
Interesting.
Also, if Estonia is yet another Q mirror, then Picard’s question in 2.6 hits much harder, doesn’t it,
Tumblr media
Who is watching over Q?
Nobody, that’s who.
And as we find out in 2.8, Q really needs Picard’s light to guide him home. He’s lost in the darkness, much like Renee, much like Maman. And he’s not expecting anybody to care, or to try to save him.
(Hey, who stuck a dagger in my heart?! That’s not supposed to be here.)
The path to the right future
In my time meta, I wrote two things:
They have to make sure the launch happens, because otherwise, they will find themselves in the wrong timeline: if they moved forward in time, it would just bring them right back to the dark future.
[But] no matter what they do, they can’t actually go back to where they have to be in order to fix the problem. Not on their own, at least.
Well, the latter part has come true: they don’t have a ship anymore. Not that it would have helped then anyway.
But at least, it seems they’ve realized that they need to be on the right track before even thinking about going home. So, progress.
So, with Agnes out of the way, stopping Soong is the priority on the agenda. And with about 12 hours to go before the launch, they’d better hope Estonia can beam them back to the US, otherwise, they’re screwed.
But look where Rios and Saffi find themselves:
Tumblr media
Soong’s lab! Now that’s interesting. And as always, I have questions.
First, I have to wonder how they managed to get in at all. We know Soong has pretty tight security. So unless Q left them a backdoor when he hacked Soong’s network, I don’t see how they would manage to 1) get in, 2) access the systems at all.
Second, we also know from the trailer that Soong will be in his lab at some point:
Tumblr media
And he’s not happy. At all. Whether that’s before or after Rios and Saffi break in is anybody’s guess at this point.
But look who’s also in the trailer, apparently still wearing what appears to be Soong’s VR glasses:
Tumblr media
Is Kore talking to Q’s simulacra? And what’s her role in all this? After episode 2.8, I didn’t actually expect we would see her again, because we had so little time left and I can’t see yet how she ties in to the plot.
(What? 99% of my thought processes go to analyzing Qcard, the rest of the plot interests me only marginally.)
Back to La Barre
Another thing that I find exceedingly interesting in the trailer is that Q and Picard are both alone in La Barre, with the rest of the team ostensibly in the US trying to prevent the launch.
So did Picard not leave in the first place? Did Picard go to the US, and come back somehow?
Or did they encounter Q on the way to the airport, and Q just threw Picard over his shoulder, running away? (I’d pay good money to see that, but alas...)
And yes, they seem to be in the actual solarium, from what we can tell:
Tumblr media
Although now that Q is here physically, the sun is shining radiantly.
Answering an ask yesterday, @celestialwarzone theorized that Q may have gotten some of his powers back as we near the apex of the time disturbance: the closer the launch, the more power.
Not unlike a supernova, actually,
“burning brighter as [he spins] towards extinction.”
That’s a fascinating theory, and one I agree with, for practical, narrative and symbolic reasons.
Let’s start with the practical: Picard and his ducklings need a way home. Specifically, they need to go back to the Stargazer at the right time to prevent disaster. Without Q and his powers, that seems impossible.
Narratively, it would also bring us closer to the Q-bayashi Maru. If Q has some of his powers back, he could conceiveably save himself, but at the cost of the timeline and Picard’s life. But if he saves Picard, he dooms himself. In other words, a no-win scenario the likes of which Jean-Luc has never faced before.
Finally, from a symbolic standpoint, just look at the sun. Following Q’s despair in 2.8, the sun sets, pluging team Picard into darkness: the dark night of the soul. Then, as the sun rises, everything takes a turn for the better. And now, the sun is shining, full of life again.
Not that I think Q’s well again. He isn’t. But a temporary improvement, just enough to save either him or Picard? I could see it.
Anyway, after digging through the trailer, it seems Picard spends a good chunk of the episode in La Barre:
Tumblr media
He’s talking to Q here, by the way, when he says,
“There’s been so much loss. So much death.”
Aside from the obvious foreshadowing (the biggest loss of all coming straight at him like a freight train in a tunnel), I wonder what he means. In the 21st century, nobody has died yet. Except Soong’s soldiers, but they were Borg so nobody cares for some reason.
So I doubt Picard is talking about Q’s actions having horrible consequences. He could, however, mean the Borg, and his difficulty accepting that they could change. Since, you know, he’s going to be facing the Stargazer choice again soon. Very soon.
Anyway, there’s only one Picard scene in the trailer that’s not ostensibly set in La Barre:
Tumblr media
They’ve kept the scenery exceptionally vague. He could be anywhere.
And we don’t seem him with Rios/Saffi infiltrating Soong’s lab, or with Estonia at the launch site. So maybe Picard does actually stay in France, and he’s saying goodbye to Estonia, Rios and Saffi in the scene above.
But why would he stay behind? He’d need an exceptionally good reason not go with them.
Like, Q?
Anyway, it seems we’ll have to wait until the episode is out to get our answers.
In the mean time, Part 1 is here if you missed it.
As always, thank you for reading! ❤️

I think one of the things that make Qcard so itneresting is the weird power dynamic. Because by all definitions Q should be the one on top/in control but there are quite a few angles of this relationship in which Picard is the one ‘on top’.

PATTERNS
"What are you talking about? Come on. He's not gay."
(watches a couple of TNG Q episodes)
"I don't know. Maybe. I think he's just likes messing with Picard. That's what Q does. He plays weird games with people."
(watches a few more TNG Q episodes)
"Ok, I can sort of see it. Especially when he gave him those roses and said that eternity stuff to him. You could be right. I don't know. He does like him. But, "loves him"? I don't know."
(watches TNG Q episodes Tapestry and All Good Things)
"Yeah, I think you're right. He definitely has a thing for Picard. Interesting."
🌹
(Eventually watches Star Trek Picard Season 2)
"Ok, yeah. He's obviously after Picard there. Wow."
(Watches STP Farewell and the hug scene)
"Oh, that's so sad! (sniffs and has tears in their eyes)
"He really loved him. Gosh! Looking back on what he was like in Next Gen, you were right all along about Q being in love with Picard. I believe you now."
(A long pause ensues as they look for a tissue to wipe their eyes and blow their nose.)
A reflection...
"That hug scene really got me! (sniff) He loved Picard so much he died for him. After all that time." (cries and grabs another tissue)
A long pause...
"Ok, then will someone please explain what those crappy Voyager episodes were about?! Those made no sense at all!"
🌹🌹🌹
The holy light of Qcard has now touched them, and a new Qcarder has joined the empire.
To anyone that doubts or even DENIES Qcard,
pay attention to the history of Q and his interactions/story with Picard.
There is clearly a pattern of behavior.
In truth, there are patterns.
In patterns, there is truth.

Season 2 finale reaction
Opening the episode with everyone standing a responsible 2 metres apart. Safety first.
Somebody let seven change her shirt please
Hehe yes jl
Again the theme and credits still slap
Tallinn accidentally blurting out a thesis statement for the show
Ooh yes genius hacker raffi
I think I blame Angelina Jolie or maybe Carrie Anne Moss for this but goddamn hypercompetant queer coded hacker women my word my ovaries my dear
....
...
....
... I apologise for being bi on main again. Let's get back to it.
Dr soong is the Jacob Rees-Mogg of star trek. In a couple of ways tbh
I can't believe a star trek show included a character too smart for the ole outfit change technique
OK but from Renee's perspective this is creepy af
Have you tried, idk, just grabbing a drone and holding it down?
Ew very creepy soong
Yay Rios!!! I liked this victory moment it was wholesome
Tallinn came here to dispense wisdom and die. And she's all out of wisdom
OK that was mean I actually liked this. Orla Brady served this season
Let's be real he's actually the Elon Musk of star trek
KORE
Yes. My wife. Also hacking, because of course. Baby yes she gets something to dooooo!!!!!
Wait what? Um. Khan. Um....
I thought Khan was 1990s in star trek canon? Or was that retconned? Either way it's a clunky as fuck reference not a fan
Um
The fuck
What
Why
Tumblr media
.... I don't like this
This episode is bizarrely structured what the hell
Wes here trying to make the dumb nerd time travel people seem cool. They're not. They're dweebs. We all know. Enterprise got this right.
That was random. But I'm glad kore has stuff to do.
Tumblr media
KISS
OH MY GOSH MY DARLINGS
KISS KISS KISS
Tumblr media
... honestly I don't think I ever truly understood qcard until this moment. I get it
Know thyself.... OK so tangent
"Know thyself" is the usual translation of the words (γνώθι σεαυτον) inscribed in the stone at the oracle of delphi. I mostly know it from the phaedrus but it's kind of everywhere in Greek philosophy. It's interpreted in range of different ways and is all over the place in "intellectual" pop culture. I love this. It's pretentious. It's high camp. Feed it to me with a ladle.
"Why me?" 🥺
I like this convo between q and jl a lot
Very gay 10/10
Get yourself a woman who will not doubt your ability to kill a god. Seven is wife material.
Teresa and child exist in this scene as props. But okay we all knew this was coming. I don't love it, I don't even like it but I'll talk about it some other time.
Forr the record, I hope that off screen Cris and Teresa had some amazing times together, and that whatever project santiago cabrera went off to work on is a success. I've been appreciating that man since Heroes so yes ❤ miss you already
Hahaha omg
Omg the hug
Yes
Heyyyyyy agnes
"Do not resist."
Ahhhh
Woop elnor!!!
Poor thing he doesn't even know what happened or that they'd be returning!!!
My baby kochanie my love my baby
I cannot believe that Agnes through shere power of nerddom reformed the fucking borg. I love her
Irrelevant but the polski shelf at Tesco's had Ukrainian chałwa. I tried it and tbh it's not as good. Solidarity anyway!
OK so dessert break over
This is sweet. Rios is a legend. Still sad he was written out tho
Sometimes a found family is you, your beautiful cyborg wife and your assassin nun son.
N'awww that was cute
It didn't do the thing I was dreading (ending on a massive cliffhanger). I think I'll definitely watch s3. Was pleasantly surprised by this despite some complaints. I have a more thought out retrospective planned but for now? Mostly positive, some complaints.
Also did I mention elnor????

Shit I wanted to send this ask yesterday but I forgot whoops Anyway for this headcanon ship thingy:
39 for tarka/oros obvs aaaand
26 for qcard
39: Who initiated the relationship? Who kissed who first? When did they realize they were in love?
I honestly have no definite headcanon yet for who initiated, but I feel like it might be Oros?? Like, Tarka would just stew in it forever and say nothing bc he's never experienced feelings like that before and doesn't know what to do. And Oros was at first all "I am determined not to grow closer to this... Taika or whatever his name is" but then gradually he does warm up to him and maybe one morning he wakes up and sees Tarka next to him, still sleeping, and they've been pushing their sleeping mats together lately "for body heat" (=they just like to cuddle and do math together) so they ended up holding each other again, and Oros just looks at Tarka and thinks, "Oh no, I love that man"
Tarka meanwhile has been rapidly rotating a horga'hn in his mind for the first time in his life ever since he realized just how much smarter than him Oros is, and he's suffering, and every second is torment. Maybe he even talks himself into like "Oros is so out of my league in every way, he must have nothing but contempt for my inferior intellect, I can never mention these feelings I have for him" and then one day Oros turns towards him and says, "Ruon, it would be stupid to deny the obvious feelings between us. May I kiss you?" and Tarka's like "Huh? What? Huh?? What??" and then he gets a frog tongue kiss
26: How do their friends feel about their relationship? Their families?
The Q Continuum reacts with scepticism. They don't think this'll go well for Q, loving a mortal, but hey at least it's something new to talk about. The Enterprise bridge crew are like... at first they suspect this is some kind of trick of Q's, or they're all "But Captain, why? He's SO obnoxious!!" but eventually most of them warm up to it

TNG rewatch: season 4 part 2/2
Watched these a while ago. Need to put down my thoughts before I forget them:
4x17 "Night Terrors":
This is actually a really good Deanna episode where she gets the chance to problem solve and shine. But it is sadly marred by the TERRIBLE dream sequences that look so bad, are repetitive and don't add much to the episode, and which are not the best way at all to showcase Sirtis's acting skills.
4x19 "The Nth Degree":
POV: You're performing in a play and the android in the audience is reacting the entire time like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4x20 "Qpid":
When I first watched this episode, I both really disliked it and the way Q and Vash were utilized in the episode, and felt like it actually retroactively made "Captain's Holiday" a worse episode, but I couldn't really articulate why that would be. Now having rewatched it, I think I figured it out.
The thing with "Captain's Holiday" is that it established Vash as a femme fatale type -- she's rogueish and very clearly not up to any good and lying to you and scheming behind your back, and she wears these characteristics on her sleeve. She's very much not long-term relationship material (but IS very much vacation fling material). So why does "Qpid" try to create a whole romantic plotline centered around her? They kind of recast her character archetype so that instead of being "rogueish" they take some of those traits and instead make her a non-traditional, not ladylike, anti-damsel in distress character. And like, sure, that is all in-character for her, but that's not all who she is. Because she is a femme fatale, the whole plot just makes no sense because it's a plot about Picard and his orientation toward romantic relationships featuring a character who isn't at all suitable for a romantic relationship, nor would anyone (including that character!) be under any delusions otherwise. And yet the "message" of the plot seems to be about Picard owning up to the fact that he loves/cares about her, and features Vash being hurt that Picard wasn't willing to do this earlier. But why?!?
Why does Patrick Stewart look so hot specifically when he's in this Robin Hood getup??
Tumblr media
Positives to this episode, though: (1) Just... Worf. Worf going "Sir, I protest. I am NOT a merry man!" and breaking Geordi's lute. I just... (2) When I first watched this episode, I had no idea that Qcard was a thing, but even still, I definitely got the vibe at the end that the emotional note being hit was "You find out that your two most chaotic exes just started dating each other..."
4x23 "The Host":
The first queer Trill episode! I really like this episode because I love identity issues and I think the actors did a really good job of conveying, whenever the symbiont switches to a new host, that there is continuity and there's something very much the same about the person even as there is blending (IIRC, there's something host!Riker says that indicates the Riker persona is still in there somewhere).
Also, Riker is really the greatest bro for facilitating Crusher and her boyfriend sleeping together and being 100% chill about it afterward.
4x24 "The Mind's Eye":
I only just realized on this rewatch that Sela appears in this episode. Neither my partner nor I recognized her voice last watch-through.
4x26/5x01 "Redemption Pt. I/II":
So the supreme leader of the Klingon empire shows up to tell you discreetly that the Klingon empire is on the verge of collapsing into civil war. What else is new?
Kurn and Gowron are amazing as always. The villains of this plotline are a bit lackluster/cartoonish, though. I guess I love the horny Duras sister, but that's about all the characterization you really get for either sister.
I like how Gowron is a similar character to Kai Winn -- he always seems like he is reacting in the way you would expect someone who is prioritizing the long-term welfare of the Klingon empire and who has a notion of honor to act. But also you notice that he is mainly happy/disappointed when things are going well/are setbacks for him personally, and he won't waste political capital on lost causes, although he always seems to have a good reason why, and doesn't seem very hung-up on that fact. In other words, it often is the case that "what is good for the empire" just HAPPENS to be be "what is good for Gowron."
Gotta love Starfleet's revolving door policy with respect to its officers.
I do think this is a really good character plot for Worf, where he learns that he doesn't fit in the Klingon empire as much as he imagined he does; that his upbringing was after all pretty thoroughly Federation. But nevertheless, he is part of that world (the Klingon empire) and can't be politically detached from its goings on,and will use whatever levers he has in that society to advance his agenda in it. It's a very interesting characterization!
Overall, season 4 was pretty solid, but didn't have as many stand-out episodes as season 3. "Data's Day" is very good, though, and there are some cool episodes here that do interesting work with the characters or establish worldbuilding that goes on to be important later.

Ship It
What made you ship it? uh.... somehow I don't actually remember what exactly made me ship it? like I was very aware that Q was into Picard tho and I think it was gradually growing on me as I watched thru TNG the first time. Q & Picard's last scene in "All Good Things" definitely kinda made it click I think, with Picard thanking Q for his help and Q admitting that he did indeed choose to help him, and then when Q leans in to whisper something in Picard's ear but then backs away with that little fond grin...like that interaction really did make me go yea. yea this is something i like a lot
What are your favorite things about the ship? They're older men, for one, which is kind of a breath of fresh air bc most prominent mlm ships you see floating around are younger dudes and it's just nice to see older ppl finding each other. i need to know love is out there for ppl who are not young. kind of a cheesy reason to love them haha. and they are both very physically attractive to me Awooga so that's a bonus hehe. and again like I said for Wolfwood & Milly it's the balancing each other out aspect. Q, a chaotic being who is trying (and failing) to keep to the orders in the Continuum, and Picard, a very orderly man who is actually quite chaotic. They are both kind of seemingly-aloof at first but they really do care a lot about others in their own ways. Q is always challenging Picard and in the midst of them Picard manages to challenge Q in return. they've just got such a great dynamic interacting with each other, building off each other. and man they are both very very lonely people and the lonely people finally finding connection in each other thing means everything to me aagh.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? i think this ship would be infinitely more popular if both Q & Picard were younger, conventionally attractive-looking men (ala the 2009 trek reboot movie lmao). like i've literally seen posts in the pas where ppl are dunking on their appearances for being bald/having receding hairlines like NO THAT IS NOT UGLY FUCK OFF!! (it especially upsetting to me to see sentiments like that as a guy who has receding hairline and probably going to go bald sooner rather than later haha). but like too bad for them i guess they are missing out by not being able to look past looks/signs of aging and aging is not a bad thing at all geez louise.

Thanks to your posting I have been watching tng through a qcard lens it’s super fun and absolutely horrifies my roommates <3 I appreciate the gifted ship
Woo! My pleasure dear mutual! It's definitely a ship that has potential and that's blatantly staring you in the face. The show does what I jokingly call straightbaiting with Beverly and Picard as a form of misdirection in a sense, never really commiting Picard to any relationship because that tension must remain. This affects any relationship that can be read romantically, whether it's Q, or any other love interest . But once you figuratively lift the veil you realize that Picard's relationship with Q is a very intimate one, just by the nature of how Q interacts with Picard. And when you realize that, you realize how head over heels Q is for Picard. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Enjoy watching the show! It truly is a treasure. Oh and if you have anything else you want to comment my ask box is always open :)
