Honestly I love gang of youths songs because they're all always "sad dead man convinces his boyfriend not to jump off a roof" "struggling with my faith" "is there any point to loving" and the rest of them are just *three songs just being violin transitions to other, more dramatic songs with the same base melody* and every song is either instrumental or has extremely eloquent lyrics and I just love goddamn Gang of Youths songs.

Westside School (1923) – 330 W Washington Ave. Oldest surviving school house in Las Vegas.

☞ Centennial Parade & Festival, Saturday, Sep. 30, 2023.

This was the second school house in Las Vegas when it opened as Branch No. 1, Las Vegas Grammar School, in September 1923, for kindergarten through 8th grade. Las Vegas schools were integrated in the 1920s. In the 30s & 40s, segregationist barriers rose in the public and private sector, including racially restrictive covenants to added to deeds, and the City's refusal to renew licenses of African American-owned businesses downtown unless owners moved to the Westside. Segregation in public education increased as a result, as elementary schools on the Westside filled with African American children whose families were restricted from living in other Las Vegas neighborhoods.

The school is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and was completely renovated in 2015/2016 by KME Architects. 

Timeline of Westside School:

• '23: Original building, two rooms. Allison & Allison of Los Angeles, architect.  • '28: Original building expanded with two additional rooms.  • '46: Las Vegas School District's first African American teacher, Mabel Hoggard at Westside School.  • '48: Annex building addition, west side of the parcel, eight classrooms and administration office. A.L. Worswick, Las Vegas, architect.  • '55/56: Clark County School District (CCSD) formed. • '60: a one-room addition constructed on the east end of the north wing of the building  • '67: Closed as a school house.  • '74: School Board of Trustees sale of the school to Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County (EOD).  • '77: Renovation to accommodate offices of EOD and radio station KCEP.

Uhhh... I feel like this opinion is very middle-of-the-road, but I'm sure it'll irritate some people.

I don't get the push to turn Tom Riddle/Voldemort into some whiny babygirl, poor little meow meow stereotype. I also don't think he came out the womb a Machiavellian monster, nor do I think he's infallible -- he's just a dude. An incredibly clever, ambitious, terrifyingly competent dude who had no responsible adult to look up to or provide any sort of positive guidance and who lived in fear of dying despite his staggering power. But a dude nonetheless.

Note: I'm not saying people can't write, draw, or headcanon him as any of those things. Do what makes you happy! They just aren't my cup of tea.

He felt he had lost everything. He was miserable. And then, he found you.

Honey Bee's 2000 celebration.

Daniel felt lost. He had just finished the season. He had promises in Red Bull, they wanted him there. But he wouldn't drive. He wanted to drive but hated how it had felt recently. He wanted to drive and enjoy it. It had been so long since he actually could. He hadn't slept well in the last few days. He was exhausted and tired of talking about it. Everyone pitied him because he had lost his seat.

He stopped running, his lungs burned. Michael would scold him if he knew. But he needed it. The adrenaline was kicking and although he was breathless, he was feeling good. He needed the pressure and burning on his lungs.

"Hey"

He jumped when someone touched him. "Fucking shit" He panting and covered his frenetic beating heart.

There were you. You were standing in front of him and you looked really pretty. He was trying to think if he knew you or not. But there was nothing.

"Wow, sorry. Are you okay?" You said frowning at his terrified expression. He had big eyes and his mouth was half open.

"Yeah" He choked out.

You chuckled and shook your head. "We'll pretend I believe you. Here, have this" You put a water bottle in front of his eyes.

"No. D-don't worry"

"I insist" You smiled and that's when Daniel lost it. You had the prettiest smile he had ever seen.

"I'm good"

"Sure you are, buddy" You giggled an patted his shoulder.

Like an angel, you appeared in his life that day. You bought him ice cream and sat on a bench in that park for hours, talking about anything and everything. For that afternoon, Daniel forgot about every single one of his problems.

"Wow, is that a smile? Chloe! Danny is smiling!"

"Idiot" Daniel said laughing. "I met someone"

"Wait" Scotty sat straight in the sofa. "Someone?"

"Yes, a girl" Daniel felt himself blush. "Um... I was running in the park and she appeared out of nowhere. And... We spent the afternoon together"

"Out of nowhere? Like..."

"Yeah. I stopped running and suddenly she was there. She bought me ice cream and we have been together talking nonstop for like three hours"

Chloe squeaked in happiness. There was a new color on Danny's eyes. There was something on him that they hadn't seen for so long.

"Wow mate. That's... Do you have her.."

"Oh my fucking God, for fucks sake. Shit." Danny groaned loudly. "I didn't ask her for her number. Can I be a bigger idiot? Shit"

The couple exchanged a look and Scotty laughed.

"shit."

"Well, now you will have to go back to that park and wait until she appears back" Chloe joked. But then when they say Danny's face, she smacked her forehead. "I wasn't serious"

"But I am"

"At least he will be busy and out of his apartment" Scotty told Chloe. They were worried, everyone was. Daniel hadn't left his home for some days after arriving. He had barely answer texts and had been drowning it on beer and expensive wine.

That's what he did. For days, Daniel kept going to the same park at the same time. He hadn't exhausted himself to death any of the times. He actually wanted to look good. He had chosen comfy clothes that would help with the I come here to run back story, but he had carefully picked every outfit. On the fifth day, he finally saw you sitting in a bench. You had an ice cream, the same flavour you had with him, and you looked like an angel with the sun bathing you like that.

"Hey" Danny slid on the bench next to you and the biggest smile appeared in your lips. For him, you were already the most beautiful woman on the earth. "Nice to see you here"

You giggled and lick your ice cream, watching him through your sun glasses with a smile.

"It's funny, I have been seeing you walk around the park for five days straight."

Daniel blushed so hard and you found it insanely cute.

"And you didn't say hi?"

"I wanted to see how long it would take"

"And if it had taken months?"

"Well, I would have been coming back to this exact point for months"

Daniel breathed out a surprised laugh and sat beside you.

"Who are you and where have you been my whole life?"

You chuckled and finished your ice cream.

"Here, actually. I have always been here. We have just met on the right time"

Daniel thought about that for weeks. He asked you for your number that day and told Scotty right when he arrived home. He told him about his plans with you, the dates he was planning and how much he wanted it to work.

"I know who you are, Daniel" You said the next time you saw eachother right when he was going to explain why he didn't have to work right now. "And I know what happened." You reached and grabbed his hand. "I think it was unfair and dirty and... There is no need to talk about it now, only if you need to I'm open to hear"

Daniel stayed silent for long seconds deciding what to say.

"I don't want to talk about it anymore. I'm tired of doing it and people feeling pity" He confessed.

"Then, what do you want to do?"

"Anything else, I don't really care. Just be with you. You make me forget about it all the time"

You smiled and run your thumb over his knuckles.

"How is that?"

"Just being you. I... You have filled my thoughts since we met."

You giggled and kissed his hand. "Then..."

"You somehow made me feel better. You barely have to try, just by being with you..."

He pulled your hand and you got up to climb on his lap. It was a bold move when you hadn't even kissed. But if Daniel was sure of something it was about this.

"You make me wanna be better."

Your hands came to rest on both sides of his neck and he snaked his arms around your waist.

Those words meant the world for you. You hadn't registered that the exhausted man eating ice cream with you was actuslly Daniel Ricciardo until you were already at home. But you were too hooked to let go. You went to the park and watched him casually walk around looking for someone for days. You knew he was looking for you.

"I want to go out and experience things and forget about driving and those damn cars. I want to get better and grow out of this. I want to be myself again and come back stronger. And if not... I want to know that I didn't waste this time and... I want you to be with me. I know it's soon but... "

You cupped his cheeks and kissed him. Danny's fingers gripped your waist hard. He needed to hold you close and make sure you were real and wouldn't leave.

"It's not soon" You whispered in his lips.

"Is it the right time?"

A smile crept to your lips and you ducked to kissed him again.

"It's the perfect time."

"Wanna help me finding the better me?"

You giggled and nodded.

He hugged you close and tucked himself on your neck.

"Thank you"
