My Dearest,

I heard of the death of your father, I feel your sorrow from over the hills and I weep for you. I remember the days of our childhood when we would watch your father’s fights. I hold those memories close in my heart. I am sure you are receiving many a letter of condolences, and I am sure mine will be one of many you will find yourself obligated to reply to. Please do not feel rushed to reply to mine.

I wish I was there to comfort you in person, but duty keeps me ever so far from you. I miss the feeling of your arms around my waist. I miss walking though the gardens with you. I miss, everything. It has only been a month since I departed and yet it feels like an eternity. I only hope that I can return to your side soon.

Your kind words sooth me. The loss of my father was quite a shock, but what is more difficult is taking his place as the head of House Atreidies. Please do not cry too many tears my dear, it would only bring me more sorrow to know you are tearful for my sake.

I also keep those memories of our time together growing up in the forefront of my mind in these trying times. I miss the shine of your eyes and the look of a smile on you lips. I miss the feeling of your hands in mine. I have received many a letter over the last few days but yours is the only one I wish to reply to. Your absence is felt now more than ever. If it weren’t a foolish use of my new found position I would order you by my side immediately, but I fear all eyes are upon me now and every choice I make is being heavily scrutinized. I hope you know that no matter what happens, or what you hear, you are my dearest companion and I count down the minutes until I see you again.

Dune 2021 SPOILERS

A list of some of my favorite aspects about the movie!

THE SOUNDTRACK

The voice of the bene gesserit.

Javier bardem as Stilgar omg. i couldn’t imagine a better choice. his accent, his intimidating presence which radiates both strength and commands respect; his performance was everything!

The constant close ups and shots of Leto’s father and the bull, as if he is a presence that has followed them all the way to Arrakis and haunts the very walls.

Paul’s fascination with Muad’dib, even before he sees one in the basin (the little mouse). The scene where it shows a close up of one? y’all, everyone in the theater unanimously let out a big “awe!” it was too cute lol

The Harkonnen ambush, the entire siege of Arrakis? amazing. the novel is one thing, but being able to see it in live action, brought to life, there was so much to take in. it brought back the betrayal of the emperor against house atreides, what that meant for the rest of the houses. i was in a rage. i was in tears, whispering “Atreides” along with Gurney as he ran into battle, with no armor 😭😭

Vladimir harkonnen. absolutely disgusting and terrifying. Nailed it. (I just find house harkonnen so interesting in the novel. loved and hated every second of the baron and rabban) though i was disappointed that there was no sneak peek/mention of FEYD fuckin RAUTHA

The costumes, the set design, the thopters, the change in Liet Kynes being a Mother instead of a father, (unless i missed something from the novel?) sharon duncan-brewster’s performance was awesome!

THE ENTIRE CAST. There’s just too much to applaud and praise!! what a fun adaptation. can’t wait for more and what they manage to bring to life!

as someone who only recently read the first book i hope it doesn’t come off disrespectful, (because i AM super excited for the 2021 cast!) when i say that i could not care less about paul atredies lol. (again no offense to chalamet!)

i know paul is the hero/prophet of our story and that we’re supposed to be rooting for him (which i feel Herbert doesn’t make too difficult, seeing as how his character is given very few faults, EXCLUDING the final chapters) but while reading the first book i thought that he was the least interesting character. (im so sorry!)

honestly im far more excited to see what they do with lady jessica, especially since we’re given so much insight into her perspective throughout the novel as a bene gesserit, a fierce lover/mother to her duke and Paul/Alia, a royal concubine, and witnessing her newfound love for the Fremen. im excited to see how they’re going to represent the Fremen culture, the HARKONNENS, the house feuds that has persevered across generations, the corrupt politics of the ubiquitous Bene Gesserits, and the personal struggles/perspectives of leto atreides , duncan, halleck, thufir, chani, harah, alia. although the sci-fi aspect is the biggest part of the film and being able to work with that material to create this universe is the fun part especially with today’s technology, i really hope we’re given more than just special effects and chalamet’s spice filled eyes.
