I just finished my re-read of the hunger games, and i keep thinking about how katniss describes prim’s death.
at one point, she refers to her as being “lit up like a torch” and having to watch it.
Did prim burn to death? slowly, i mean. I had kinda always assumed her death was instant, but it makes it ten times more painful to imagine that she was also, if only momentarily, the girl on fire.

The toasting is such an amazing concept to me. I think it’s been talked about but I just want to throw it out here if you haven’t seen anything about it.
Peeta says that’s what him and katniss does. And he’s basically telling people, ‘it has a deeper meaning and to him they’re basically married. They don’t need a big wedding or a ceremony.’ Katniss also explains what it is.
Now here’s where I’m like “oh my godddd Suzanne ima mail you my therapy bill” It’s a toasting of bread. Over fire. Katniss refers to Peeta as her boy with bread. The baker son. He makes jokes about a bread tree for fucks sake. And katniss is known as the girl on fire. Because of the clothing cinna makes for her. She even did propos and the mockingjay was on fire. That’s her memo. The girl on fire from district 12.
And if you’re still not feeling me. THE TOASTING IS WHEN YOU MAKE AND TOAST BREAD OVER A FIRE AND EAT IT WITH YOUR NEW SPOUSE!
KILL ME LORD PLEASEEEE

Rewatching The Hunger Games, as one does on a biannual basis, and I had the thought: "You know, as a 12 year old, maybe I was too harsh on Peeta."
I was a team Katniss as an independent single woman truther because I was like "Gale killed her sister and Peeta made like... a minimum of 3 attempts on her life!"
But, to be fair, Katniss also tried to strangle Peeta to death multiple times and she wasn't even under the influence of tracker jacker venom; she was just mad... aaaand they're all like approximately 16 (to 18 over the course of the books) and deeply traumatized so."

I… don’t understand people who say they want to see ALL the hunger games. Like I just saw the new movie and I cried like a baby. Because it was sad.
Like I understand wanting to learn more about the winners we know, learn more about what they went through and how that motivated them to become the characters we know and love. I understand from a story telling aspect.
But… some people are out here taking it just a bit too far with how much more content they want.
Maybe I just form emotional connections too easily. But I felt like this new movie specifically really made it clear that they were kids in that arena. Even when they seem”evil” or too willing to kill, they are still just kids at the end of the day. And the thought of of watching 75 different battle royale style slaughter of children….. I really just couldn’t do it.

My all time favorite fictional romantic couple, these two are just so perfect for each other and I can’t imagine them being with anyone else.

My favorite thing in the movies, besides how Effy was added in more, was that one scene in Catching Fire when Peeta and Katniss go to the capitol to go to that party, and Peeta says he's full when he's offered some food, and he's given a drink that makes people barf so that they can eat more.
It's the way he just stares at them blankly before quickly booking it with Katniss. The awkward silence kills me every time. They are truly out of touch with reality and it's such a great example.

although it can be fun to joke about katniss’s distrust towards peeta in the hunger games, it’s also quite understandable considering the circumstances they are under. for all she knows, peeta’s just really good at acting.
katniss is also not used to kindness with no strings attached — she’s not used to kindness at all. she was neglected by her mother. her district never came to her aid; katniss said that the only act of kindness she ever received was from peeta, and that was years ago.
it makes perfect sense of katniss to distrust others’ kindness, especially the kindness from her rival for a literal killing game.

We've come to the end of our Hunger Games read-through (😭), and unsurprisingly we discuss Katniss quite a lot in the final episode. We have been so happy to hear that some of you found a new love for Katniss during our analysis of the books, because she is *such* a fantastic character.
This fanart by @smoustart is an amazing depiction of #KatnissEverdeen and highlights how young she was during the Games and war. Oh Katniss. 🖤
