Louie: Hold up a second! How could you possibly know what the sheriff and the inventor were talking about when you were on the train!?
Scrooge: Look who's suddenly invested.
Louie: That doesn’t answer my question.

It amuses me how displeased Scrooge looks when Goldie shows up:

guys this might be a bold thing to say but I think goldie is the type to accidentally giggle and kick her feet a little if you catch her off guard but she'd NEVER own up to that

I'm hyperfixating on Ducktales again and rewatching episodes, as one does, and I realized Louie uses a landline to call Goldie in Outlaw Scrooge McDuck, which I thought was weird because he definitely had a cell phone in Great Dime Chase, cause he and Scrooge talk about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then I realized it's cause he gets a phone for his Louie Inc setup. He’s making a business call to Goldie. This kid is a professional and he has a business line. (Also, I'm kind of obsessed with how much their room changes.)

is the outlaw scrooge mcduck really so different from the comics? i keep seeing people say that
lol well of course it is! but so is the entire show. there is not a single episode of Ducktales 2017 that "fits into comic canon" cuz its a completely different canon - different characters, different backstories, different interactions, different designs, different priorities, different everything
the barks/rosa comics (since we can assume those are the comics being referenced) take place in the 1950s and ducktales takes place in the late 2010s so thats already a pretty big jump. scrooge and goldie are very different characters. fenton doesnt exist in the comics and gyro is an unrecognizably different character. also louie wouldve never had a story separate from huey and dewey.
idk why anyone would say one ep is worse than another specifically because it doesnt fit with the comics when there are zero episodes that fit with any of the comics. webby does not exist in the comics lol neither does launchpad or beakley. or duckworth. nonsensically the show said scrooge made his first million 75 years before the third ep of the show which chronologically makes zero sense but also gave the audience a fair expectation of how scrooges backstory content would be written (none of it would make any sense but we'd have fun watching it anyway)
obv people are just gonna whine all they want but as someone who loves the show and loves the comics i dont see any point in complaining that the show didnt follow the comics. 87 ducktales didnt either (some eps were loosely inspired by comic issues but the tv-only characters and personalities made it impossible to do anything that really fits) and thats fine too! the comics are the comics, the shows are the shows. completely different stories!

For the Ducktales 2017 ask game, let's go with favorite character.
Thanks for the ask @boingodigitalart!
I know it's no shock that I love Goldie. I first fell in love with her in the comics because she was a woman in a man's world and basically beating them at their own game. She wasn't just sitting at home simpering after a man (coff coff comics daisy coff) seemingly helpless with even the most basic task without their input. Goldie on the other hand was someone who relied on herself to get things done. If she had help great. If she didn't oh well she just got on with it. I like that both versions of ducktales picked up on this character trait and ran with it.
Technically though...Scrooge is, was and always will be my overall fave. Like Goldie I first 'met' the character in the comics and immediately thought I wanna be him! Confidence! Intelligence! Resilience! Buuuut the real attraction was the super deep secret he kept hidden - the vulnerability and fear that he might not be good enough so he would always overachieve to make up for it. Which of course leads to bluster, pride and ego to cover up for it - smoke and mirrors to make sure no one sees the truth. I like that Barks gave the comics Scrooge things like exhaustion, self doubt and even mental health issues which gave him immense depth of character and things that I could also relate to. Others like Rosa and Ducktales fleshed all of this out and made him an understandably flawed but likeable character that although I might not be super rich I can definitely escape the confines reality with from time to time and enjoy.
I think ducktales made him much more ego centric which works for the storyline. They went a different direction with the vulnerability aspect which I think really, REALLY was a brilliant stroke of genius to contrast the Scrooge that he 'wants' people to see and the Scrooge he is inside underneath...I still get goosebumps whenever I see or hear the 'I am' scene. *shudder*
The vulnerable Scrooge is the Scrooge Goldie sees even though he really wishes she wouldn't. This is why she knows EXACTLY what buttons to push to annoy the crap out of him. And also why she pushes him out of air ships for the challenge she knows he loves but also protects him when he is in over his head (Golden Lagoon rock fall, Outlaw Scrooge McDuck Jeeves fight, Foreverglades Jeeves fight again).
Phew!! That was WAAAY longer than I expected, but super fun. Thanks again for the ask!

Something I Noticed In The Episode ‘Escape From The ImpossiBin!’
Tumblr media
Ok. As shown in the episode ‘Escape From The ImpossiBin!’, the McDuck family split up into 2 groups. One group consisting of Ms. Beakley, Webby Vanderquack, Donald Duck, Huey Duck and Dewey Duck and the other group consisting of Scrooge McDuck, Della Duck and Louie Duck. I also noticed something about the different members of each of those 2 groups that I’ll be going over here. Also, Spoiler Alert for the DuckTales (2017) TV series. With that out of the way, let’s dive right in.
Tumblr media
The group that consisted of Ms. Beakley, Webby, Donald, Huey and Dewey mostly consisted of the members of the McDuck family who generally prefer being cautious and following the rules. Ms. Beakley preferred being cautious and following the rules as shown in the episode ‘From The Confidential Casefiles Of Agent 22!’ where Ms. Beakley was annoyed with Scrooge’s unwillingness to follow protocol and was shocked to see Scrooge eating potentially dangerous to check if they were poisonous. Webby Vanderquack knows about and believes in government policies and regulations as shown in the episode ‘Nothing Can Stop Della Duck!’ where Webby knew that after all the lawsuits, the government claimed that fizzy rock firework cakes are unsafe to eat and tried to warn Dewey that eating one is unsafe. Donald Duck also knows a bit about being careful as shown in the episode ‘Storkules In Duckburg!’ where Donald gave Storkules strict instructions on how to be responsible. And Huey Duck is very careful too as shown in the episode ‘Quack Pack!’ where Huey realized that something was wrong since his Junior Woodchuck Guidebook was blank and soon realized that he and his family were trapped in a TV show after analyzing his environment and realizing that the place they were in was designed like a TV set. The reason why I said mostly earlier is because Dewey seems to be the only exception here as shown in the episode ‘Escape To/From Atlantas!’ where Dewey went across a bridge full of fiery traps despite Scrooge’s warnings against doing so. I think the reason why Dewey is the exception here is because, as shown in the episode ‘Escape From The ImpossiBin!’, Scrooge told Della and Louie that he needed them to spot any weaknesses in his Money Bin’s defense system since they were the 2 most cunning individuals he knew. So, Scrooge probably didn’t bring Dewey along in his group because Dewey’s recklessness made him far from one of the most cunning individuals Scrooge knew.
Tumblr media
The group that consisted of Scrooge, Della and Louie only consisted of members of the McDuck family who generally prefer being rebellious and mostly tend to disregard the rules. Scrooge usually tends to ignore the rules as shown in the episode ‘From The Confidential Casefiles Of Agent 22!’ where Scrooge mostly disregarded regulations and protocol unless they were absolutely necessary. Della is also pretty rebellious as shown in the episode ‘Raiders Of The Doomsday Vault!’ where Della was fine with taking the Sunchaser to check out the Doomsday Vault without Scrooge’s permission. And Louie is pretty rebellious too as shown in the episode ‘The Outlaw Scrooge McDuck!’ where Louie refused to take Scrooge’s advice about being self-reliant and instead wanted Goldie to teach him how to be conniving in order to make his way to his dream of having his own company called Louie Incorporated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This could all just be a coincidence. After all, as stated in the episode ‘Escape From The ImpossiBin!’, Scrooge gathered Della and Louie in particular because he wanted them to check his Money Bin’s defense system for any flaws since they were the 2 most cunning individuals he knew. But if it isn’t a coincidence, here’s what I think happened. As shown in the episode ‘Escape From The ImpossiBin!’, Scrooge and Ms. Beakley were pretty much acting as the ringleaders of the 2 groups and they were preparing to fight FOWL. And, as shown in the episode ‘From The Confidential Casefiles Of Agent 22!’, Scrooge and Ms. Beakley have fought FOWL before in the past. So, what I think happened is that Scrooge and Ms. Beakley decided to meet in private and had a long and intense discussion on how to handle FOWL. And during that discussion, Ms. Beakley was focusing more on the orthodox whereas Scrooge was focusing more on the unorthodox. And after a while of discussing and disagreeing on their next move, Scrooge and Ms. Beakley eventually decided that they should split up for now and gather particular members of their family to try to handle FOWL in their own ways.
Well, that’s all for this post.
See you all next time.

In your Wild West au, does clone!Gyro figure out Marshall is Fenton's ancestor?
Also, did you think in 'Outlaw Scrooge McDuck' Gyro realized or strongly suspected the sheriff was Fenton's ancestor? (I definitely do) He did say "You are frustratingly familiar to me..." How did you interpret that line yourself?
Also, because this is a clone of Gyro's, are there any ways in which he's different from his original? I think you said once the clones are all basically Gyro, yet can still form different opinions and ideas and stuff? And how does he feel about both his original and being a clone?
And since he's Gyro's clone, and gradually falls in love with Fenton's ancestor- likely because he reminds him so much of Fenton- does that mean the original Gyro is at the point where he has a crush on Fenton but totally denies it to himself (*and* does he know he likes him on a conscious or subconscious level?)? Alsoooo, does clone!Gyro's drunken use of Fenton's name in your sketch mean the original Gyro's learned/remembers Fenton's name by that point (but refuses to use it, ofc)?
He does! They’re very similar people and have the same last name, so he puts it together.
Pffffttt yeah I think he was pretty suspicious there. XD
There isn’t a difference! Like I said it’s really just meant to be Gyro, the only reason it’s a clone is because it fits into canon better. He doesn’t care, he just sees himself as another Gyro.
Hmmmm idk! That timeline isn’t really a focus, so I don’t have anything planned for it. It can be if you want it to! I guess it does!

So Goldie’s been living rent-free in my head for a while.
Tumblr media
Personally I blame the movie Forrest Gump. I got on this kick of watching first-time reactions to Forrest Gump on YouTube (and by the way, did you know you can tell a lot about a person’s heart by their first reaction to Jenny?). Some of the comments on those videos were very inciteful, too.
Anyway, I’ve noticed some similarities between Jenny and Goldie’s behavior and now I’ve constructed this whole tragic backstory for her that I don’t wanna go into too much detail about here since this is supposed to be a safe blog as relatively trigger-free as possible (speaking of, I think I’ll put a seizure trigger warning on this because of one of the gifs), but anyway I’m pretty convinced Goldie was abused as a child, which would explain...
1. Her fear of vulnerability
Tumblr media
(Sorry, this gif doesn’t have subtitles.) There are times when Goldie starts to let her guard down with Scrooge, just a little, and then she immediately puts her walls back up. Moonstoneflowers brought this up to Frank a few years ago.
Tumblr media
2. Her preference to be in the lead
Tumblr media
Goldie grew up in a time when men were in charge of everything. If a man close to her had abused that power, of course she’d be uncomfortable letting a man lead anything, even dances, and she’d prefer a brand of chivalry that let her be in control.
3. Her avoidance of domestic life
Tumblr media
Settling down would mean entrusting her life to a man. Divorce laws were stricter way back when, and women often relied on their husbands for financial security. The idea of being financially dependent and legally bound to someone for life who could wind up mistreating her the way someone else had would be terrifying to her.
4. Leaving before she can be left
Tumblr media
Someone made a comment on YouTube about Jenny and how staying in one place for too long would force her to ruminate on her traumatic past, so she was always running from it. I can see this applying to Goldie. She also probably feels like she’s not good enough for Scrooge, and would rather leave before he can reject her and that door gets closed forever. I can also imagine her leaving asap so she doesn’t get caught, but more on her con artist side in a minute.
5. Betraying before she can be betrayed
Tumblr media
Sometimes it feels easier for victims of abuse to keep people at a distance, and as much as Goldie seems to crave closeness, it also scares the crud out of her. Betraying isn’t only a means of financial gain to her, but a way of keeping people who start to care about her from following her, and a way to prevent being hurt again.
6. Occasional violent tendencies
Tumblr media
Sometimes victims of abuse try to regain a sense of lost power by being abusive to others. Other times, it’s just because that was the behavior that was modelled for them and they don’t know what healthy love is supposed to look like.
7. Becoming a con artist
Tumblr media
Single women didn’t have a ton of money-making opportunities in the Victorian era, and certainly very few that would appeal to her. I imagine she’d have run away from home at a young age, and had to start stealing to survive. She probably performed in saloons at some point (since she did in the old comics and I think that’d be a neat nod, like her performance in “The Outlaw Scrooge McDuck!”), but she’d have grown uneasy as drunken men would’ve catcalled her or tried to grab her. Frustrated that even earning an honest living left her vulnerable to sleazy men, she’d go into scamming and prospecting full-time.
And then she’d meet Scrooge.
Tumblr media
(^Favorite Scroldie screencap EVER)
I could go on and on about what likely drew them to each other... you know, besides being stuck in an iceberg and forced to stare at each other for five years... but I think what it came down to is they wanted the same thing at the time: gold. Neither of them felt any pressure to settle down from the other.
Now, Scrooge has more or less “settled down.” He still adventures, but he’s got a family that depends on him who mean more to him than anything. As for Goldie, I think after “The Forbidden Fountain of the Foreverglades!” she’s realized Scrooge is more important to her than anything else she’s been after.
Tumblr media
It seems like after this episode, they were “back on,” so to speak, but in a long-distance relationship. That’s probably what’s most comfortable to her right now. But it was nice seeing her get to the point when she realized what she wanted was a fresh start and to be with Scrooge. I think that was a big step for her.
