Song Review: Aoife O’Donovan - “Phoenix” (Rachael Ray)

Aoife O’Donovan didn’t cook on the “Rachael Ray Show,” but the Age of Apathy Band was hot.

The quartet was on to play “Phoenix,” which received a workmanlike, pre-recorded performance sans audience with little variation from the studio version.

“Phoenix” is O’Donovan in her Joniest Mitchell guise, a jazzy, folksy number with odd tuning, a drum set played with hands and delicious wordplay.

Looking for forgiveness/looking in every cupboard in every room/I'm bearing witness/to the passing time, O’Donovan sings.

So, while there was no risk in this quickie TV spot, the reward remained high.

Ray and Boeing are both super ready to keep upping the ante without realizing that they're both insane, but Boeing clearly does not understand how feral Ray is ready to be about Sand and the fact that being in that pool is risking his actual life.

Is Boeing's hair kinda messy here because Ray tried to drown him? Has he ended up at the bar because Ray and Sand threw him out after he tried to cause havoc at Ray's house? Boeing is usually immaculately put together and this is the most split second shot but he's not here, he looks rough for him

Will he ever learn his lesson or will he continue his reign of chaos and just wander off to cause problems elsewhere?

I could watch an entire show about Boeing causing problems and getting into messes let's gooooooo

i watched a romcom movie i hadn’t seen before this afternoon (book of love) and it reminded me how much i typically freaking hate the “oh no, we’ve had a misunderstanding and we’re breaking up!” beat in a romcom narrative -- i’m just so tired of it, it’s just so exhaustingly inevitable and they’re always being stupid, i hate it -- and then also how much i love literally every detail of how it’s done in ideal home

so i guess i don’t inherently hate that story beat, just how routine and dull it feels unless you’re really earning the right to do it

This was on a Reddit thread about useless guest appearances/cameos and I think I've literally forgotten this part of AYITL...the Gilmore Guys were there, Ausiello was there, fucking Rachael Ray was one of many famous chefs who were desperate to work at a struggling New England inn for no apparent reason, Jason Manyzoukas talked his way into the show somehow, there's an elaborate musical sequence/homage to Wizard of Oz with Rory and Logan's friends who she got tired of way back in season six, there's a twenty minute musical interlude because a small town musical is of such dire importance that it's attracting Broadway stars and Lorelai's therapist is blowing her off to participate (what was up with that?) And oh, yeah, the homage to Wild and the Parenthood cast. I'm surprised Reese Witherspoon didn't show up herself.

Now, this show was not beyond throwing in the occasional high-profile guest appearance but it seems to me that this is most ASP's version of doing fan service for herself and to pay tribute to Gilmore Girls being a pop culture phenomenon and praise herself for it so that we honestly believe the wider world is super interested in this quaint little town. It's breaking the fourth wall, it's tacky, it's self indulgent, it's not plausible for the rules of this show's universe, and it's too much overkill for a story that has a lot of large, gaping plot holes.

I guess it does answer one thing, though: there's no use cobbling together this many guest appearances for anything other than a one-off project, so there never was any attempt to tell an ongoing story. It's done.

I started watching this show about Rachael ray and her Italian villa and I am a little confused by the premise of the show. Like, they make it seem like she designed the renovation but then also she shows up and immediately starts criticizing the renovation?? And no one acts like that's annoying??? So maybe she didn't design the renovation but in that case it seems inefficient to show up and change things after people get started. Idk I think maybe it's just really poorly edited.
