What is What We Do in the Shadows (2019) about?
Summary: "Based on the feature film of the same name from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, "What We Do in the Shadows" is a documentary-style look into the daily (or rather, nightly) lives of four vampires who've "lived" together for hundreds of years in Staten Island. The self-appointed leader of the group is Nandor the Relentless, a great warrior and conqueror from the Ottoman Empire. Then there's the British vampire Laszlo -- a bit of a rogue and a dandy and a fop, he might say. He's a lover of mischief and a great soirée, but not as much as he loves seeing Nandor fail miserably in every attempt. And then there's Nadja: the seductress, the temptress, the vampiric Bonnie to Laszlo's Clyde. Also cohabiting in the vampire household is Guillermo, Nandor's familiar; and Colin Robinson, an energy vampire and day-walker of sorts -- he feasts on humans, but not on their blood." 🔥 wondering if you agree with me on this: is it fair to call something a puppet when it is not physically crafted? im not talking about puppet rigging with flash or how jim hension studios did so mutch work in 3d modeling mo caping with the hand puppet mouth rigs like in sid the science kid. im talking about people categorizing entirely hand drawn media as "puppetry" like welcome home or that new game "my friendly neighborhood" where both of these things are very well informed and passionate ABOUT puppets and so are technically ABOUT puppetry but they themselves do not have any mocapping, hand sewn, laboriously rigged physically manipulated joints by string, springs, hinge, castors, or swivels. the art of physical engineering is nothing like coding and drawing. this is mostly me venting about how all the tumblr puppet poll tournaments got taken over by "welcome home" and if people are going to put aside things like the dark crystal or lesser known one off physical props in tv show and film like GOSH THEY MADE SO MANY PUPPETS IN THAT VAMPIRE SHOW "what we do in the shadows" and like its so nice to see you yourself make a real deal puppet because that process is so labor intensive its not comparable to anything that can be done digitally
i suppose we can say it's media ABOUT puppets, and maybe we can simply say puppet media to abbreviate. Because it IS puppet media, it is about puppets, it surrounds media about puppets. But it ISN'T puppetry and there IS a distinction between puppet media ABOUT puppets and puppet media WITH puppetry. NOT to discredit all the hard work that goes with making all of this puppet media that doesn't include (so far) puppetry, because there is a lot of work on these projects, but i suppose a distinction that that work isn't puppetry is okay, i don't think it makes the project less, but it is a different approach at puppet media. Although when it comes to welcome home, I have seen that Wally does have a puppet! Perhaps we will see puppetry at some point, we'll have to wait and see
Okay this is a separate opinion from puppets, this is about polls... i don't like polls. i'm so tired of them and i ignore them always. i only like polls someone makes for fun in their blogs with their followers, all of these competitions are exhausting, they only really prove which franchise has a bigger tumblr fanbase lol
edit: forgot to add but! we shouldn't discredit all the hard work that welcome home must take, even if the fans are taking over a poll, even if there isn't puppetry in the website so far. I get being frustrated with poll results, but the project itself takes a lot of time and effort, we shouldn't discredit that

Rio kicks off Carnival parade with anti-establishment tone

Rio kicks off Carnival parade with anti-establishment tone
There are some Brazilians who probably aren’t finding much to enjoy in Rio de Janeiro’s colorful Carnival parades — the mayor, the governor and the president.
An anti-establishment tone is echoing through this year’s celebrations in Brazil. And Sunday night’s parade at Rio’s Sambadrome featured entries that blasted the country’s political leadership at a moment of economic slump and political scandal.
President Michel Temer, Rio de Janeiro state Gov. Luiz Fernando Pezao and Rio Mayor Marcelo Crivella were expected to skip the two-day bash at the Sambadrome. The samba parades used to be a magnet for politicians before a sprawling corruption investigation around state-run oil giant Petrobras began in 2014. Now officeholders fear being booed and even attacked by critics during the party.
Temer, whose popularity is in single digits, spent his last Carnival as president with a group of 40 people on a military-guarded beach south of Rio. Earlier a few hundred revelers in the capital of Brasilia organized a street party to make fun of his recent poor health and his unpopular pension overhaul.
Crivella was photographed by the newspaper O Globo at Sao Paulo’s international airport near the time the parade began. Pezao’s whereabouts were not disclosed.
In the Sambadrome or at street parties, Carnival revelers usually take the five-day extravaganza to forget everyday problems, and most of them will do just that. But the political message is clearly more present this time than in recent years.
“This has been the most political bash since the middle of the ’80s when Brazil’s military dictatorship was about to end,” Carnival historian Luiz Antonio Simas said. “Brazil has been mired in political chaos and corruption scandals and people want to vent their frustrations at the same time they want to be in the party. That is a great mix for Carnival.”
Brazil is holding a presidential election in October and the results are hard to predict in a polarized society. The front-runner in opinion polls is former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, but he faces a growing risk of being arrested within weeks following a corruption conviction.
Da Silva has also been a polarizing figure at Carnival, with supporters using costumes and banners criticizing Brazil’s judiciary in his defense and adversaries bringing dolls that feature the former president in prison clothing.
In Rio, though, the most criticized politician by far is the mayor.
Mangueira, one of Rio’s most popular samba schools, prepared a float featuring a plastic butt with Crivella’s name on it. Since taking office last year, the evangelical bishop-turned-politician has cut city funding for samba schools and avoided the bash.
A shirt popular among revelers says “Carnival will kick the Crivella out of you.” Earrings, tiaras and banners have also been used against the mayor, who has said he has nothing against Carnival but considers it to be “only a party.”
“The mayor has no idea what Carnival is and doesn’t separate his religion from our city’s most important party,” said Lucia Araujo, who was wearing a “Fora Crivella” (Crivella out) tiara at a street party. “This tiara doesn’t mean I don’t want all the others out, too. These politicians are destroying our hope for a better Brazil, they all need to go.”
Sao Paulo Mayor Joao Doria, who was until recently seen as a presidential hopeful, heard insults as he visited that city’s sambadrome. A picture of him being snubbed by a top samba singer went viral on Brazilian social media channels Sunday.
Later Doria used Twitter to say he was just being polite when he tried to shake hands and take photos with singer Zeca Pagodinho, who is also a friend of da Silva’s.
Other samba schools had a broader, but also political theme.
Paraiso do Tuiuti featured plastic ducks manipulated by puppeteers, in a reference to a giant plastic duck used by conservatives to complain about Brazil’s high taxes during demonstrations two years ago pushing for the impeachment of then President Dilma Rousseff. The group’s float also had a vampire wearing the presidential sash under several false dollar bills.
Two years ago, a powerful industrial lobby organization used a giant plastic duck in big demonstrations to push for the impeachment of former President Dilma Rousseff.

Mobile Billboard Trucks – A Primer on Mobile Outdoor Advertising
Mobile billboard trucks, commonly referred to as mobile billboards, mobile ad trucks, billboard trucks, ad trucks, or mobile media vehicles, are typically a self propelled vehicle based on a light duty commercial truck chassis, which has been fitted with a custom built, two or three sided sign frame. There are a variety of sign system designs, including tri-face and scrolling models that look like modified box trucks, and which can support multiple advertisers. However, the most common style is known as a static truck which generally features two panels, each measuring roughly 22′ wide by 9′ – 10′ high. In recent years, with the advent of grand format digital printing, the sign panels have evolved from paper posters to scrim reinforced heavy vinyl fabric, and most recently to polyethylene which is said to be easily recycled.
The Outdoor Advertising Association of America classifies mobile billboard trucks under the Transit category, which includes a variety of non-traditional out-of-home media formats. Billboard trucks have a relatively recent history, with some of the earliest mobile billboards reportedly showing up in New York City in the 1980’s. Others have attributed their origins to Texas and Southern California. During a recent conference call among mobile billboard company executives hosted and moderated by the OAAA, on which this author participated, several of the participants estimated that nationally, there are 500 or fewer mobile billboard trucks on the road in the United States.
Mobile billboards are used for a wide variety of advertising purposes. With their ability to drive virtually anywhere, they are uniquely able to target a specific locale to promote the Grand Opening of a retail store or a restaurant. Unfortunately, given the current economic climate, promoting retail store Bankruptcies and Close-out Sales increasingly seems to be a regular assignment for billboard trucks.
On a broader scale, multiple billboard trucks have frequently been used simultaneously within a market, or across multiple markets, to promote the roll-out of a new consumer product, or as was the case in late October 2008, promoting the Obama-Biden Presidential Campaign in a handful states were the polls indicated that it was a close race. There have even been a few instances, on both B to B and B to C ad campaigns, where two trucks have driven in tandem, featuring a two-part message.
Like any good advertising message, the creative element is critical to capturing the public’s attention and causing it to act on the message. With outdoor advertising in general, advertisers are encouraged to follow the adage, “a picture is worth a thousand words” and prominently feature their logo and an illustration representing the message’s theme, followed by a clear call to action and a way to contact the advertiser. Indeed, it is this last element which has steadily evolved. Years ago advertisers were basically limited to an ‘800’ number, while in recent years the creative also featured a website URL which prospects could visit at their convenience to learn more about the company and its products, prior to making a purchasing decision. Most recently, with the dynamic growth of Social Media, we have started to notice advertisers highlighting their presence on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and other platforms.
At Guerrilla Billboards, we have been executing advertising campaigns for our clients since 1999. Ranging from the streets of New York City to sunny Southern California, our mobile billboard trucks have served a wide variety of organizations – from large Fortune 500companies to relatively small grassroots organizations such as a fan club protesting the decision by a major TV network to cancel its members’ favorite show about a vampire.
Over the past ten years, we have consistently found that successful mobile billboard advertising promotions have resulted from the following key elements:
First and foremost, know who and where the target audience is. Is it a general branding campaign, or a focused promotion such as a Grand Opening? Typically the client will have solid demographic data regarding the so-called Life Pattern attributes of its customer base. For instance, several years ago we ran an employee recruiting campaign for a major biotech company in the Boston area. Given that firm’s suburban location, they directed us to operate during the AM and PM rush hours along one of the heavily traveled commuter corridors from Southern New Hampshire into Kendall Square in Cambridge, where many of their competitors have offices. In this case, the primary theme that our client’s ad was to promote its convenient suburban locale.
Second, the creative must not overwhelm. The target audience generally has a very brief time to process the message. As stated earlier, let corporate logos and/or photos do most of the heavy lifting. Great examples of this strategy are exhibited by the wide variety of outdoor ads that are run by McDonald’s Corp., which feature terrific photographs of the restaurant chain’s various products and very limited text.
Mobile billboard trucks are all about flexibility. If during a retail campaign one location needs additional help to pump up its sales, it is very easy to re-route the truck to spend more time in a particular trade area.
Properly vet your vendor. Lowest price is not always best. Unfortunately, there are a number of mobile billboard operators who pay their drivers “under the table” in order to save money on payroll taxes and worker’s compensation insurance. Be sure that your vendors are fully insured. As an agency or a brand, you do not want to receive a call from the IRS demanding payment of back taxes.
Continuing with this theme, take a hard look at the vendor’s trucks. Do they look beat-up or are they clean and well maintained? Safety is very important, and it is your brand’s image and reputation that is at stake.
Proof of performance is a given. In these days of ROI metrics, the client wants to know that the truck is operating when and where it is supposed to be. While clients will frequently get feedback from customers and employees stating when and where they may have seen the truck, we provide a selection of so-called proof of performance photos, taken daily during the campaign at various spots along the route – and frequently in front of competitors’ locations. Depending on the campaign length, these may be delivered in batches during an extended campaign. We also provide our clients with the output from the internet based GPS tracking systems in our trucks, which is further backed-up by driver log books.

Support For Impeachment At Record High
Support For Impeachment At Record High
PPP’s newest national poll finds a record level of support for impeaching Donald Trump. 49% of voters support impeaching him, to 41% who are opposed to doing so. This marks the 6th month in a row we’ve found a plurality of voters in favor of impeaching Trump, and it’s the closest we’ve found to a majority.
Trump’s approval rating has declined by a net 7 points in the last month. In September we found him at a -11 spread with 42% of voters approving of him to 53% who disapproved. Now he’s at -18 with 38% of voters approving of him to 56% who disapprove.
Trump claimed last week that he had accomplished more in 9 months than any President in American History, but only 25% of voters believe that claim to 66% who do not, although it’s a notable measure of the ‘Trump cult’ that 55% of those who voted for him do believe he’s the most accomplished to 32% who disagree. Voters actually put his first 9 months in a very different historical context- 49% already say they think he’s the worst President in American History, to 43% who dispute that notion. By a 54/40 margin voters wish Barack Obama was still President instead of Trump, and by a 48/42 spread they wish Hillary Clinton was in the White House rather than Trump.
Trump fares poorly on a number of metrics we tested in the poll. Only 37% of voters think he’s honest, to 56% who say he’s not. In fact a 52% majority come right out and say they think Trump is a liar, to 41% who disagree with that characterization. There are continued transparency concerns, with 60% of voters thinking he needs to release his tax returns to just 32% who don’t think it’s necessary for him to. And only 31% of voters think Trump has delivered on the core promise of his campaign to ‘Make America Great Again,’ to 60% who say he’s failed on that front.
Trump is already in a very bad position when it comes to hypothetical match ups for reelection in 2020. He trails Joe Biden by 18 at 56/38, Bernie Sanders by 15 at 53/38, Cory Booker by 11 at 49/38, Elizabeth Warren by 10 at 50/40, Kirsten Gillibrand by 10 at 48/38, Kamala Harris by 6 at 45/39, and Frederica Wilson by 3 at 42/39. While the support level for the possible Democrats fluctuates likely based on name recognition Trump polls consistently in the 38-40% range no matter who he’s pitted against. It’s also interesting that the hierarchy of Democratic performance goes white men->black man->white women->women of color.
Attempts by Trump world, Fox News, and other affiliated interests to try to turn the Russia news back onto Hillary Clinton have had some effect. A month ago we found that among Trump voters 41% thought Russia wanted Clinton to win the election last year, to 29% who thought it wanted Trump to win. Now that’s up to 56% who think Russia wanted Clinton to win and just 18% who grant that it wanted Trump to win.
That’s part of a general pattern when it comes to Trump voters and the Russia story. Only 7% believe that members of Trump’s campaign team worked in association with Russia to help him win the election, to 83% who don’t think that happened. And even if collusion is proven they don’t care- just 11% think Trump should resign if that’s the case to 79% who believe he should remain in office. 75% dismiss the entire Russia story as ‘fake news,’ to 13% who disagree with that assessment. This poll was conducted mostly after the news that indictments were coming was out, but before the actual indictments were released.
The Trump base is reflexively lining up behind him on Russia issues. The issues that are actually getting relatively tepid support from his base and causing his numbers to go into the ground are things like tax reform and health care. Just 29% of voters support the Congressional Republicans’ tax plan to 49% who are opposed to it, and even among Trump voters there’s just 61% support. 53% of voters think it will mostly help the rich to 28% who believe middle income families will be the biggest beneficiaries, and 7% who think it will be low income families.
Trump and Republicans do similarly poorly when it comes to their efforts on health care. 51% of voters now support the Affordable Care Act to just 33% who oppose it, reflecting its increased popularity this year in the wake of efforts to repeal it. Even among Trump voters there is now only 61% opposition to the ACA. Only 32% of voters think the best path forward on health care is repeal of the ACA, to 61% who think it should be kept with fixes made to it as necessary.
Another issue where Congressional Republicans could possibly run afoul of voters is the Iran deal. By a 19 point margin voters say they’d be less likely to vote for a member of Congress who voted to take action that could cause the collapse of the deal- 45% would be less likely to vote for such a person to 26% who would be more likely to.
We continue to find Democrats with a double digit lead on the generic Congressional ballot, 50-40. The unpopularity of things like the Republican tax plan are helping to drive that advantage- by a 15 point margin voters say they’re less likely to vote for a member of Congress next year who supported the plan.
Congress as a whole stands at a 9/77 approval rating with Mitch McConnell at 11/68 and Paul Ryan at 22/60 not faring a whole lot better individually. They’ve both managed to be unpopular with Trump voters (13/65 for McConnell and 34/44 for Ryan) and Clinton voters (6/76 for McConnell and 9/78 for Ryan) alike.
Other notes from our national poll:
-Trump’s position with Republicans has weakened some from a month ago as well. He leads a generic Republican for the nomination next time by 21 points at 57/36. In September it was 34 points at 61/27. He leads Mike Pence by 25 at 53/28, Ted Cruz by 30 at 57/27, and John Kasich by 42 at 66/24. On our last poll he was up 38 on Pence at 59/21, 53 on Cruz at 68/15, and 50 on Kasich at 68/18. We also tested Jeff Flake for the first time this month, but Trump has the widest lead over him by 56 points at 70/14.
-Trump has tried to make the media his new foil over the course of the year without Hillary Clinton to kick around anymore (or at least as much) but he’s not succeeding. Voters trust each of the 6 media outlets Trump has attacked the most by 15-18 points more than Trump when pitted against each other. It’s an 18 point edge for each of NBC, ABC, and CBS (54/36), 17 for the New York Times (54/37), and 15 each for CNN and the Washington Post (52/37):
Which do you trust more:
Donald Trump or…
Winner
ABCABC, 54/36
CBSCBS, 54/36
NBCNBC, 54/36
New York TimesNew York Times, 54/37
CNNCNN, 52/37
Washington PostWashington Post, 52/37
-89% of voters think the US government should provide hurricane relief to Puerto Rico, to only 6% who are opposed. In fact 36% think Puerto Rico should be the main focus of disaster recovery aid among the three places most hard hit by recent storms to 16% for Texas and 9% for Florida. Polling just after Hurricane Maria found that many Americans did not know that Puerto Ricans were American citizens, but now 77% consider Puerto Ricans to be American citizens to only 16% who disagree. Clinton voters consider Puerto Ricans to be American citizens 91/5, while Trump voters do so just 61/31.
-A rare thing where Trump may antagonize his base is bragging about his Ivy League education. Overall 40% of voters view Ivy League schools favorably to 32% with a negative opinion. There’s a significant political divide on them with Clinton voters viewing them favorably 52/15, while Trump voters see them negatively 28/51.
And finally we polled on some important Halloween issues:
-Americans give Candy Corn a 53/28 favorability rating. Trump voters (62/19) are more excited about it than Clinton voters (47/35).
-Americans are sort of over the Pumpkin Spice craze- Pumpkin Spice lattes get a 25/49 favorability rating with disdain for them carrying across party lines.
-48% of voters think it’s appropriate to dress up as someone from a different racial background, to 26% who think it’s inappropriate. Trump voters think it’s acceptable by a 58/18 spread, while Clinton voters are evenly divided on it (36/36).
-Finally we tested Donald Trump against a litany of Halloween related things and asked voters which they thought was scarier between Trump and the items. Voters think Trump is scarier than ghosts (49/40), vampires (48/40), mummies (also 48/40), witches (49/42), zombies (46/43), and werewolves (45/44). People aren’t messing around with the devil though- they say he is scarier than Trump by a 51/31 spread:
Which do you think is scarier:
Donald Trump or…
And the scarier one is…
GhostsTrump, 49/40

Also cohabiting in the vampire household is Guillermo, Nandor's familiar; and Colin Robinson, an energy vampire and day-walker of sorts -- he feasts on humans, but not on their blood."
