Old friends to enemies, but still liking each other even when their differing ideals mean they can't help but fight
A (“Love it. Spend my time combing AO3 for it.”)
Enemies! By! Necessity!!!!!
Yeah I mean this is up there with (perhaps even above) enemies to lovers in terms of tropes that just come for me right where I live. Tropes that bring with them all the things I crave.
Because I don't know if you've noticed but I really cannot overstate the degree to which I love betrayals, and that's what this trope is made for (and made of).
Especially because in this case it's not even a one-time devastating betrayal but rather a betrayal that is ongoing, constant, unavoidable and inescapable. A betrayal not just of one another but also of themselves, because surely it either is a betrayal of the ideals they are fighting for to carry that lingering fondness for an enemy, or it is a betrayal of their loyalty, to stand against one they still love.
Add to that the fact that this carries the same kind of knowing-each-other-means-knowing-how-to-hurt-each-other as enemies to lovers and you pretty much have all you need for a one-hit KO on me personally.
This is also one where I love... pretty much every possible shape the story could take. Maybe it ends in tragedy, maybe in reconciliation. Maybe it's cold words and sharp blades and all remnants of friendship buried deep, maybe it's intimately brutal torture and the endurance thereof, maybe it's devastated realisation across a battlefield when their enemy at last steps into view and they see for the first time who they've been fighting against, maybe it's stolen moments between battles in which for the space of a conversation they are allies against the shared enemy of time and inevitability...
Enemies by necessity, man. I truly cannot get enough.
(give me a fic trope and I'll grade it)

So I recently played Inquisition for the first time and reread your All Origins fic, and I can't stop thinking about a Dalish Inquisitor saying the Exalted Council is "full of ants" and then internally screaming when they find out just how accurate they are
LORD I love all my old origin fic. I should replay DaO.Mahariel: No we expect it to be awful, can’t surprise us!Mahariel, like, 5 min later: YOU WERE RIGHT, FULL OF ANTS!

Crazy guy gets arrested, the cops give him a job, he leads a revolution, dies, then 25 years later the police chief gets another promotion - Night Watch from everyone else's POV
well when you put it like that, it’s no fun at all.

Orchestration? 6/10.
Potential for watch officers/grand guard to learn classical music while on duty? 13/10 let’s make a kickstarter for this

Also, pretty sure that in one of the Mythica chapter headings, it mentions that Yelig-Nar gives access to ALL the Surges. I think Amaram turning the ground to liquid is Soulcasting/Trasformation
Yeah, I remembered that afterward--for some reason, I thought the one that gave access to all surges was Ba-Ado-Mishram, not Yelig-Nar, and obviously given how cool the scene was I didn’t want to stop reading to go check.

3, 7, 46?
3) If you could learn a new skill, what would it be?
From a practical standpoint, I would say programming. A useful skill that can also be used to make a bit of cash. From a less practical view, I would also love to learn rapier fencing.
7) If you could be a mythical creature, which would you choose?
There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who answer this question with dragon, and liars.
46) What is your favourite season? Why?
Winter. It is the only season that almost never is too hot and isn’t too bright.

What happens if you try to transform a meld card without melding it? Say, with Moonmist?
Nothing.
Meld cards aren’t double-faced cards and can’t transform.
A meld card’s back face only be face up on the battlefield if it successfully melded with the other half of its meld pair.

It's my birthday! Could I get some trivia on Elspeth?
Elspeth is one of the planeswalkers where we don't know what plane she's originally from. All we know about it was the Phyrexians invaded it.
Happy Birthday!

In your punning post, Shmi sounds like Terry Pratchett. (which is pretty appropriate, cause I'd imagine her Ekkreth stories are very much like Discworld novels, except without footnotes because those don't really work verbally)
(The post in question is here, for those just joining in.)
This is not something I realized consciously, but it’s definitely fitting. She uses humor as a tool of resistance and a way to teach lessons that go far beyond humor. Very much like Pratchett in that way.

Tabletop ask 13 & 14
13: Your most ridiculous character:
I played a one-shot shadowrun campaign once, which the DM used to try to figure out how a strike team would break into his main PC’s base. It was short, it was fun, I played the most obnoxious neon hacker, it was a great time.
14: The best in-character line you’ve ever had:
I’m a fun arcane trickster thief at the moment, playing a sort of stressed out but very curiosity-killed-the-cat treasure hunter, and there was recently a pond in the middle of a clearing.
“I want to check it out, see if there’s anything on the bottom of it.” I said
“It’s a pond,” our fighter said, “Why?”
“Because if I was running from something and needed to hide something fast, the pond’s where I’d toss it,” I said, “but mostly, because it’s there.”

Acrobatics for sheer usefulness, but I really love Far Reach, especially using it to slingshot (although picking up a dude and yanking him through a wall of light is pretty fun too)

Baked, Google, and Martin: chromolume so imagine you're making ratatouille and you don't like tomatoes. you don't like the taste, the texture, the putting them in the water and the peeling them eugh! so you say to yourself "lookit, this whole dish is nothing but vegetables, so what does it matter if i leave the tomatoes out?" a seemingly innocuous decision on the surface, but 2 hours or whatever later when you're done cooking, you open the oven to find a complete mess! just a pot full of baked vegetables, none of them congealed or somehow unified. what happened to your beloved ratatouille? so you take to google and find that actually the tomatoes are an essential ingredient of ratatouille, as they form a "sauce" of a certain kind that makes the whole thing work. and so a seemingly innocent decision has destroyed the very foundation of the established order with disturbing ramifications towards the whole. in this essay i will examine how martin luther's 95 theses lead to protestants being more boring than catholics the-last-punbender This is the opposite of a recipe blog 75,556 notes
