Hope you don't mind me whamming you with Multiple Characters for the ask meme, but if you have received other asks covering some of these then that would lessen it a bit, right??? XD Alright: Cap + 16, Sam + 18, and 32 for THREE different characters: Oogway, Soothsayer and Krupp. We can also throw in Cap as a fourth for good measure. Optional bonus questions: Soothsayer + 29, and Horton + 25. Okay we're done, hope that wasn't too much XD. They're fun questions I got curious ahaha
honest favorite character asks
16. Have you ever cried when thinking about this character? Genuinely? (captain)
is it bad if i say no? emotional anguish, yes, but i don't think i've genuinely physically tears-on-my-face cried. in fairness, a lot of the emotional anguish comes from me putting him through the Horrors (tm).
its kind of like tickling yourself-- you already know you're doing it, so you don't laugh. its the same principle (ha) here. i know what i'm putting captain through and sticky notes au was never meant to be a tragedy so much as a long-form character exploration. its probably why i feel confused about people considering this au is dark,
18. Do you prefer to see this character suffer or know peace? Angst or comfort? Both? (sam)
on the one hand i think sam deserves the stability he never got growing up with no mom/as a thief. i think him being the Weird Uncle to EB and her new little brother would be really sweet, considering his orphaned past. the man would spoil them so badly.
plus him and pam need to catch up and figure out how to be a mother and son together in less stressful times (i know there's an episode that speedruns that but again. that still had the underlying threat of the whole moo-lacka-moo conflict)
on the other hand, i think sam has one more in him to go through the Seussian Horrors. they figure out their world is on a speck of dust and have to catch horton's attention but he's been captured by the circus mcgurkus? a season that pays homage to seuss' dark paintings? the cat in the hat is there? i don't know man
32. If you could make this character a meal, what would you make them? (oogway, soothsayer, krupp, cap)
ok, here's the thing. i am not adept in the kitchen, but lets also add the additional caveat that this is a scenario in which i can cook and also have the resources for this theoretical scenario.
additionally, the food mentioned would still have to be food i'm aware of prior to this, so i just can't go completely out of pocket in this theoretical scenario.
oogway: some sort of waffle (vegan) and a fruit smoothie/juice.
i don't think oogway eats... like, a lot. comes with the territory of meditating (and tortoise metabolism). so something with a smaller portion may be more appropriate-- it'd still be a lot by his standards, lol.
really my thought process starts and ends with i think giving him a breakfast food would be nice. could even arrange some fruits around to make the waffle look like a little turtle.
(i'm specifying vegan here because eating things with milk or eggs/meat is probably weird or just straight up taboo in the kfp-verse. note also applies to soothsayer too.)
soothsayer: some kind of vegan tacos (spicy), espresso.
ok i imagine her usually eating fancy a lot of the time anyway, so something much more casual then? i imagine it being a bit overstuffed with a soft shell-- she tries eating it and part of the insides fall onto the plate on the other side, that sort of thing. its spicy because i think she'd like spicy food.
espresso because. i think she needs it.
krupp: one (1) tv dinner. Some Sort Of Soup (butternut?) and a slice of brownie.
ok, for real, he's the one that NEEDS something homecooked out of all these characters. something filling, but easy to have a lot of and have leftovers of for in the oncoming week. soup, of course is the obvious answer. my butternut squash soup bias is coming through, but really any thicker soup will do. he'd be able to customize it a bit further as he needs to with salt/pepper/green onions and maybe grab some crackers if he's so inclined.
my brownie bias is also coming through. it won't be as sweet, but its still pretty rich. again, ease of leftovers is a priority here as you an just make a tray of it, cut it into portions and put it in the freezer. imo, it tastes better like that because now its just ultra dense and fudge-y and cold.
cap: something like palabok? (though, with substitutions to the shrimp and pork if that's the case) and halo-halo.
the name of the game here is novelty and having him try something new-- stuff that wasn't mentioned by the comics or his sidekicks or could be offered by the aforementioned. i've mentioned things like sushi and i've always thought he'd enjoy tiramisu here and here, but in terms of making i was thinking some sort of noodle? my brain keeps going back to palabok (i think he'd appreciate how bright orange it can get), but that's not kosher hence the point about substitution.
halo-halo is fun and colorful. lots of textures. some of the elements separately are familiar (the shaved ice and the gelatin) but the stuff he'd associate with more savory food (beans and corn) would be a surprise.
29. Do you affectionately bully this character? (soothsayer)
no, that's what oogway is for /j
25. What kind of fan-fiction do you read about this character? If you don’t read fan-fics about them, why not? (horton)
i don't because there isn't a lot?
ok i may be exaggerating, there has to be some fanfics that popped up as a result of the 2008 movie, but frankly i don't feel like trawling through what i can only assume is an overabundance of jo-jo fics. and the version of horton in my head is so specific on account of picking and choosing parts of everything he's been in, so i feel like nothing will satisfy me.
that being said, i do remember a story-- not a fic, but a fancomic set post-canon to the events of 2008, where the who scientist lady made a device to make the mayor big enough to be visible and actually interact with horton. cue shennanigans once he realizes that he doesn't have the creature comforts of whoville on account of being in the middle of a jungle. and also there's a jaguar oc who wants to eat the mayor. it was cool! at least kid me thought so.

🥯 BAGEL — what does your oc's typical breakfast look like? do they usually eat breakfast?
🥪 SANDWICH — what does your oc's typical lunch look like? do they usually eat lunch?
🍛 CURRY AND RICE — what does your oc's typical dinner look like? do they usually eat dinner?
☕️ HOT BEVERAGE — does your oc prefer coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk, water, or some other drink? how do they like to take this drink (ex. coffee with milk, hot chocolate with whipped cream, a specific kind of tea, etc)?
For all 3, bitte. Hier sind kekse.
Kekse! Danke schön!
🥯 BAGEL — what does your oc's typical breakfast look like? do they usually eat breakfast? Willow: usually leftovers, or prewar foods since those are easy to put together, if he's away from camp. At camp, he or Beckett can put something together, between the little garden, the chickens and staple foods they've traded for. Gunnar: Once he gets into the Lucky 38, he orders in for breakfast, usually some form of eggs, meat and bread, but that can vary a lot. Tacos, bacon and eggs with toast, cornbread, ham and egg sandwiches, etc. "In the field" he'll eat whatever's available. Rowan: during the events of Bad Trip, he's stuck with Halcon foods, and there's the six-week period when all they have for all meals is Boarst and Beans. Postgame, he's on a specialized diet (thanks to Halcyon's weird food/his physiology) and ends up cooking a lot of his own food as a result; no more prepackaged stuff for him.
🥪 SANDWICH — what does your oc's typical lunch look like? do they usually eat lunch? Willow: Whatever's handy. Sandwiches, prewar foods, but he draws the line at bugs. Bug meat just turns his stomach. Gunnar: Fondness for Mexican food and Tex-Mex, and doesn't mind bug-meat meals. Lunches tend to be more "on the go" so they're sandwiches and the like. Rowan: oh god not more boarst and beans / did I make enough food for leftovers for lunch
🍛 CURRY AND RICE — what does your oc's typical dinner look like? do they usually eat dinner? Willow: Dinner tends to be the big meal of the day at the camp. Beckett's a better cook (and more willing to cook) than Willow, but a lot of it depends on what's available: has anyone hunted or foraged, are the chickens laying, etc. That said, dinners tend to be good and satisfying. Gunnar: Field meals are, again, whatever's foraged, but if they're in Vegas, he tends to order in or go to the Tops for dinner. The restaurant experience! Rowan: do I want to skip dinner this time, it's more boarst and beans / Postgame: actual cooked meals; he and Max take turns cooking, and both of them have gotten pretty good at it.
☕️ HOT BEVERAGE — does your oc prefer coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk, water, or some other drink? how do they like to take this drink (ex. coffee with milk, hot chocolate with whipped cream, a specific kind of tea, etc)? Willow: Not really a fan of hot drinks. Hot chocolate is nice, but the powder packets are getting real hard to find 25 years after the war. In cold weather he'll drink those different herbal 'teas' people came up with. Gunnar: Misses coffee, desperately. Doesn't think much of the local homegrown substitutes. Yes, some of them have caffeine, but he misses real coffee, and knows he'll never get it again. When he did have access to coffee, he had it with milk and sugar if possible, but could drink it black if that was the only option. Rowan: Has grown accustomed to Trip-Teaz for his morning drink, with something to sweeten it. Not a fan of the Purpleberry-flavored Trip-Teaz.

“I know it was you”
If there was one unspoken rule on the island, it was never to touch another's food, sure clothes and other items being stolen on Tracy island were normal, even if it annoyed certain residents. Although food was different, each member of the family had made their own at one point or another, being a secret stash of treats away from Grandma’s cookies or having a dinner already pre-made, thanking to their never ending unpredictable schedule. Each of the Boys had their own speciality when it came to food. Scott could make some spaghetti and meatballs, Virgil would make a mouthwatering grilled steak, John was very rarely down on earth, but when he was he would make something simple, such as mac and cheese or tacos. Gordon would always opt for his Hawaiian pizza with all the toppings to match his colorful personality, while Alan would stick to his classic pasta or his own spin on it. Jeff had his usual signature dish- his famous ‘Tracy pancakes’ he made for his family every Sunday morning to get them out of bed.
However, it had come as a surprise one afternoon, after a simple quarry rescue, when a slice of leftover Hawian pizza and a plate of spaghetti and meatballs had gone missing from the fridge. All the brothers had known never to touch each other's food at the risk of their wrath. Scott and Gordon had immediately thought it was Alan. Their littlest brother was often prone to wanting to eat their food, not having many cooking skills over the years, having been pampered by his older brothers for most of his life.
Alan was found in his room, having been given some down time after back, to back, to back rescues all week, ranging from space rescues of an out of control shuttle, to helping people escape a flood zone with Gordon and Virgil. Gordon had sat down on his bed behind him while Scott stood accusingly in the doorway, arms folded.
“Uhh, what’s going on?” Alan was confused by the way his brothers were acting, whenever the military bros were working together and acting accusingly, something was up.
“Well, we were hoping you could tell us Alan.” Scott stated bluntly, staring accusingly at the youngest Tracy however, Alan was bewildered. He had no idea what his older brothers were on about. It was clear to Scott and Gordon that it wasn’t Alan who had stolen their food. Alan had tell-tale signs of when he was lying or hiding something; Having basically been his primary caregiver for Alan for close to 8 years in their fathers absence.
Time was getting on though, Gordon had come up with the idea that he and Scott should hide in the kitchen, the villa has several hiding places, one of such in the kitchen, dug into the wall. Gordon had often used that spot to hide out before launching one of his infamous pranks on a member of his family. Nightfall came sooner than they had expected and they were waiting to see if the culprit would try again.
They had almost missed it. The movements of the person were
sharp; cat-like; a shadow as such. It was only when the fridge opened in the moonlight, they could see the outline of a figure; removing food from the fridge, a bit of Virgil's famed steak before dashing away as quickly as they appeared. Scott and Gordon looked at knowingly each other, they had finally solved their mystery; but they were tired. Scott had sent his fish brother to bed before silently creeping into his own.
Scott was up at 6 am, a little later than usual but that made no difference to him. He knew the resident he was after would be waking up in about 45 minutes in time for their morning routine that he knew well enough.
Scott knew that breakfast was normally around 8 to 8:30, with his father making breakfast today. The whiff of the pancake aroma was floating around the house. Scott knew he didn’t have much time to confront the suspect as he knew that after breakfast, they would not be easy to find until bed, and even then, they have no idea what the day would entail for them.
Scott walked down the hallway, gently knocking on the door before letting himself in. Kayo was sitting at her dressing table, putting the last hairpin in place in her tight high signature ponytail.
“You okay Scott?” Kayo didn’t need to even look at the door to know who it was.
“I know it was you, Kayo” he informed her “i know it was you who took the food” Kayo put on her innocent expression. She had lived with the family for practically her whole life, she knew how to fake innocence, it had worked quite a few times over the years when she knew she had done something wrong. She knew that she was their baby sister and knew that she had the ability to manipulate them into letting her off the hook just like they do for Alan.
“I don’t know what you're talking about, Scott,” she said, putting hairspray in. Scott leant on her dressing table to get her attention, it worked. “Kayo. Me and Gordon saw you in the kitchen last night”. Kayo set her things down and leant back. Assessing her options.
“Ok, yeah. You got me” Kayo admitted, folding her arms and leaning back against her chair.
Scott was about to say something to her when the com came to life
“Breakfast is ready, get your buts down here!” Jeff’s voice echoed throughout the villa. Scott and Kayo could hear the running of Alan and Gordon who always raced to be the first down.
“Well. I guess we better get down there before the terrible two get all the food” Scott joked, nudging his sister gently who had a tiny smile on her face before smugly walking out of her room in front of Scott.

Because Dominic was sick this past weekend, he didn't do a grocery run. Anyone who has met me in person and spent even a small amount of time with me has probably heard me complain about the linked chores of meal planning / grocery shopping / cleaning out the fridge to make room for groceries / putting groceries away / washing the dirty containers that old food was in / cooking dinner. I don't have great executive function, so I get overwhelmed easily by the way all these chores are interrelated, how they cascade into each other, how doing one chore (meal planning) makes another chore (grocery shopping) which makes another chore (cleaning out the fridge) which makes another chore (dishes), and I haven't even gotten to the cooking a meal part! Anyway, I'm doing a little better with all these chores and have gotten into a rough routine to keep them moderately separated.
Except grocery shopping.
Grocery shopping has always been sensory hell for me, but the pandemic really underscored how torturous I find it. I don't ever want to go back to regularly doing this chore. Luckily, Dominic doesn't mind. So rambling story short, Dominic was sick and didn't grocery shop, so we don't have a lot of food in the house. Or, to be more accurate, we have tons of food but not a lot that makes a good dinner. And I barely tolerate breakfast foods for breakfast (this is probably one of the sketchiest things about me; but I've been like this since a child), so that's out. I thought about making hot dogs since we have frozen wieners and buns, but that made me so grouchy I wanted to weep. (I believe hot dogs are outside food.) So I thought about it some more, and I realized we had sweet potatoes, black beans, and Conecuh sausage, and all the fixings for soft tacos. So I diced and roasted the sweet potatoes with seasonings and opened up two cans of beans and seasoned those, fried some sausage rounds, and then we ate them with flour tortillas, sour cream, salsa verde, and shredded mozzarella (goat cheese or cotija would have been better but that's what we had).
It was very, very good. And it's a dinner I'll make again because it was easy and healthy (sausage aside) and everyone liked it.
Also, if you ever see Conecuh sausage in the grocery store you have to get it because, to me, there is simply no other smoked sausage. Conecuh is such a superior sausage that it has ascended and is in a class of food all on its own. I don't know why it's so good. What are they putting into sausage in Evergreen, Alabama? Who knows. Who cares. It's Conecuh. It's divine.

Does Jin have a schedule for jk & mc’s diet per week? 🥺 like does he do vegetables only for monday, has a specific menu with pastries on tuesday, etc? Also how’s mc with her journey so far 🥹 I wanna see how far she’s gone thru at this stage 🥹 I’m so excited to learn more about the pack dynamic now alot has changed! Even more so after tae comes out bc I know it’s gonna be interesting! Thank u sm once again for creating this story li 🥹🤍
yes he does! the m/c has a breakfast of eggs and toast usually with lots of fixings like- sometimes it's little omlettes and stuff (though those are a little hard for her to finish,) and then a little protein shake that yoongi makes her about half way through the day to help her stomach settle (mostly because she gets nauseous if she tries to eat too much solid food) then by the evening she's usually feeling okay enough to eat whatever the pack is having for dinner.
jk is used to like counting calories and macros because of his seizures and because of his job so he usually can do it by sight but they also have scales to measure out her food. it's more of a loose diet plan if that makes sense? if anything the pack just knows what the m/c and jk can eat and always is sure to keep it around the house like,
jk eats ungodly amounts of keto chips and sour cream just cuz it's an easy snack, taco meat is also like- perfect for both of them idk why but taco nights with the pack 🥰 and maybe jk has to have them on lettuce and not on wraps because of the sugars in them but it basically feels like a normal dinner with that!
i think maybe both of them coordinate like- a good treat day once a week where they go out for smoothies or maybe sweets, and jk actually gets to have them or maybe it's just alot of whipped cream and berries that he eats <3 the two of them all dolled up and acting all love sick in a cafe somewhere, maybe within walking distance to hobi's flower shop so they can go and get him after work and walk back with him. and they go slow for the m/c just she's still not quite as aethletic as both of them <3
as far as her recovery, i think at the moment in the story she's like- not getting seriously better yet? like canonically- she's still not eating more than 1200 calories a day even on her cheat days, which is alot better than her just not eating like usual but she hasn't really started to gain a significant amount of weight yet.
i think that the pack dynamic is finally going to start to solidify into something great when tae comes out. i'm starting to edit what i have for it already and ahhh- it's going to be such a transition for the story!

Jay Park!
Tumblr media
song recommendation : She - Harry Styles
- okay this couple right here looks so good together
- an aries and leo couple is what the world NEEDS rn like actually
- i could see you and him both sharing books to read together or giving each other book recs for the other to read, both of you are super smart and that’s one way you guys like to spend time with eachother, just reading your own respective books in silence
- both of you love learning new things with each other, what ever it is, like going to a museum, or learning a new language, like i said again both of you are so smart and talented so learning just comes easy to both of you
- He is so nice and good to you, he would always make sure to spoil you at any given moment and you know he is always willing to take you on a super expensive trip with just you and him at anytime

- you and him can equally get pretty busy in your own schedules, but he always tries to find time to spend with you, weather it’s staying up late to talk to you before going to bed, or getting up at the crack of dawn to make you breakfast, he’ll do it all because he just adores making you happy
- some nights, he loves to make you all of your favorite foods, (especially spaghetti) I mean, we all know this man can cook, but for you? he’s like a whole Gordon Ramsey, anything you want to eat he’ll cook it for you
- he loves playing with your hair, it’s so soft and the color is so pretty to him, literally if he starts playing with it long enough he will fall asleep
- overall you guys are so loving and cute with eachother it’s adorable 😭 my otp like actually, he would love you so much and you would love him just the same!
Thank you for requesting lovely sorry for the long wait!!! I hope you enjoy 💘

Labor Day, Part Two
We thoroughly enjoyed the holiday weekend and made the most of Mickey’s bonus day off.  Our wonderful boys had gifted Mickey with tickets to see Hamilton at The Kennedy Center in D.C. and our seats were reserved for Sunday night.   We drove into D.C. on Saturday afternoon, with no solid plans for how we’d spend the day.  We’d discussed which museums we might visit, what culture we’d dive into, and how to make the most of our time.  Then we did what any red-blooded Americans would do - we put money on our Metro cards and went to a mall.   Honestly, that’s my fault. Our little town on the Eastern Shore is safe and sweet but shopping options are LIMITED.  We got off the train at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City and parted ways.  I roamed Macy’s, Sephora, MAC, L’Occitane,  Ann Taylor,  Banana Republic and it felt good.  I purchased very little, a cleanser at Sephora and a clearance purse at Macy’s.  But it was nice to see everything.  In fairness, a couple of hours was enough.  I’m good for another 5 or 6 months now.  We grabbed District Taco for dinner - quick and easy and yummy.  I had a bowl with a scoop of guacamole on top that was worth the calories. Thanks to years and years of traveling for work, the mister is a lifetime titanium member at Marriott.  We still get freebies and upgrades and they didn’t disappoint us this weekend.  We didn’t pay a dime for our room (well, we paid for parking) and they upgraded us to a two bedroom suite.  We didn’t need two bedrooms, but it felt fancy. We weren’t in the penthouse but we had a 9th floor peek at the sunsets - and you know how I love my sunsets. Soul food.
Tumblr media
So we woke up in our lovely room on Sunday and decided that after breakfast we’d hop the metro again and visit a museum or two (p.s. -  It was also nice that we each had our own bathroom, it makes getting ready easier, doesn’t it?).  We rode a couple of stops up the line, and one escalator toward the sun later we popped out on the National Mall.  It’s such a pretty place.  I’d love to be there when the cherry trees are blooming, I just don’t want to be there with the cherry tree crowds.  And speaking of crowds, there weren’t any!  Look how empty!
Tumblr media
I’m going to fast forward here rather than bore you with every detail of our day. I’d initially wanted to return to the National Gallery, pretty sure the mister would prefer to spend all day at the Air & Space Museum, we decided to go to the Natural History Museum, and at the last minute turned left and went to the Museum of American History. Honestly, you can’t go wrong in D.C.  We enjoyed  our visit and I snapped a lot of pictures - though there’s always a favorite.
Tumblr media
Never forget, ladies, men didn’t give us the right to vote, they’re the ones who withheld it.  But that’s a bitter post for another day. We spent a few hours soaking up what D.C. offers (and soaking up sun, it was hot) before heading back to the hotel to shower and prep for the wonderful evening ahead.  Fast forwarding again to our arrival at The Kennedy Center. Oh, it’s just beautiful.
Tumblr media
I told Mickey that this is the light fiture I want in the living room.
Tumblr media
Our sweet boys had chosen spectacular seats and we were in the orchestra section with a perfect view of the stage!
Tumblr media
What a treat! What can I say about Hamilton other than it’s magnificent.  The second act blows me away.  The first act is interesting and  is a rapid telling of history, the second act feels more personal and if you don’t cry during It’s Quiet Uptown we can’t be friends.  King George always delivers and makes me laugh, Thomas Jefferson being a total player makes me laugh, but oh, when Aleander and Eliza stroll through town, looking broken after the death of their son Philip, and the company sings about them - my heart shatters. I have a lump in my throat just typing this.
youtube
I dare you to listen and to read these lyrics without weeping.  I can’t. It’s Quiet Uptown There are moments that the words don't reach There is suffering too terrible to name You hold your child as tight as you can And push away the unimaginable The moments when you're in so deep It feels easier to just swim down The Hamiltons move uptown And learn to live with the unimaginable I spend hours in the garden I walk alone to the store And it's quiet uptown I never liked the quiet before I take the children to church on Sunday A sign of the cross at the door And I pray That never used to happen before If you see him in the street Walking by himself, talking to himself, have pity Philip, you would like it uptown, it's quiet uptown He is working through the unimaginable His hair has gone grey He passes every day They say he walks the length of the city You knock me out, I fall apart Can you imagine? Look at where we are Look at where we started I know I don't deserve you, Eliza But hear me out That would be enough If I could spare his life If I could trade his life for mine He'd be standing here right now And you would smile and that would be enough I don't pretend to know The challenges we're facing I know there's no replacing what we've lost And you need time But I'm not afraid I know who I married Just let me stay here by your side That would be enough If you see him in the street Walking by her side, talking by her side, have pity Eliza, do you like it uptown? It's quiet uptown He is trying to do the unimaginable See them walking in the park, long after dark Taking in the sights of the city Look around, look around, Eliza They are tryna do the unimaginable There are moments that the words don't reach There's a grace too powerful to name We push away what we can never understand We push away the unimaginable They are standing in the garden Alexander by Eliza's side She takes his hand It's quiet uptown Forgiveness, can you imagine? Forgiveness, can you imagine? If you see him in the street Walking by her side, talking by her side, have pity They are going through the unimaginable Oh, my heart!  Why do I torture myself? Anyway, it was an unforgettable evening in a beautiful spot.  I feel lucky to have have lived it - is that too dramatic?  I’m just grateful for moments like this that make a life rich. On Monday we slept in, had breakfast, and then Mickey pointed the car home.  I think it was about an hour and twenty minutes from door to door.  Not bad, traffic was light.  We lunched at home and slipped back into normal life.  I like our normal life.  I also like that we live close enough to interesting places to step out of normal life now and then.  Today it’s a bit drizzly (we need it) and I’m washing sheets and planning menus.  But you can bet that I’ll be singing along to the Hamilton  soundtrack while I do it. I think I’ll skip around and perform King George’s hit.

My personal Meal Plan
I have a box.
Tumblr media
In this box are some cards with letters on them, to sort recipes.
Tumblr media
It used to have a whole bunch of recipes in it (I looked up this box online) from the 1960s LIFE magazine. It doesn’t have many in there, but the ones in there, I can and will eat what they make.
In the process of trying to eat food that will help me live my happiest, healthiest life, and less cluttered with 25 cookbooks, I’m going through said cookbooks to find easy, delicious meals to cook myself.
Tumblr media
(There are so many)
That way I can get rid of a bunch of cookbooks I own and have more room for tiny creechurs.
Tumblr media
So the plan has been to make myself 3 weeks of meals: 21 of each meal, breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus snacks. Now that I think about it, that’s way too many of each, and I think I’ll maybe pick 9-15 of each, and have them a couple days in a row. That’s more realistic.
The 3 week plan means I can cycle through each week of meals and then start over again at the beginning of it. I have one day a week to try a new recipe, and if I like it, cycle it into the plan if I want to.
This avoids boring repetition, invites experimenting without being overwhelmed, and gives me a consistent grocery list, which, with food prices going up so much, will be easier to stick to.
I have food sensitivities, from having ADHD and autism, as well as allergies, so the first step in this whole process is making a list of food I Can and Will Eat. Next is to find recipes that don’t take a lot of activity to create, or can be cooked in large batches and frozen in portions to heat up.
So far, I have a list of the food I like to eat, that I CAN eat (and can afford). I have easy breakfasts, and slightly more complicated (bowl of granola vs pancakes or eggs with onions).
Here’s what I have as of right now. BREAKFAST
Week 1:
Granola bowl with fruit compote (compote made with OJ to reduce sugar content) (3 days)
2 scrambled eggs with salsa on toast (3 days)
 Pancakes with fruit compote (Mon)
Week 2:
Overnight oats with nondairy yogurt and grapes (3 days)
3 steamed eggs with spinach or broccoli, nutritional yeast (3 days)
Orange French toast (Mon)
Week 3:
½ avocado mashed with garlic and lemon juice on toast (3 days)
Pizza muffins (English muffins with marinara sauce, nondairy cheese, sausage) (3 days)
3 Breakfast cookies (granola, eggs, fruit, all that jazz) and honey citron or chrysanthemum tea (Mon)
LUNCH (This is the hardest meal for me to eat; I generally graze if I’m home, and forget to eat anything if I’m not)
Week 1:
Rice with taco sauce and salad greens (2 days)
Sliced peppers, hummus, and marinated mushrooms (2 days)
Banana and peanut butter sandwich with apple (2 days)
Week 2:
Hummus on toast with an apple (2 days)
Frittata cups with veggies (2 days)
Purèed vegetable soup and crackers (2 days)
Week 3:
Clear broth soup with a bagel (2 days)
Tuna, onion and tomato with greens and Cilantro Lime mayo (2 days)
Arugula cucumber salad with Lemon dressing (2 days)
DINNER (Sheetpan meals are literally single pan meals that are just “put it all in a pan, cook, eat”)
Week 1:
Sheetpan meal – Garlic Lime Salmon (has peppers and onions) (2 days)
Steamed Rice with Thai veggies and sesame tofu (2 days)
Sheetpan Meal – Pesto Chicken (has mushrooms, tomatoes, zucchini, broccoli) (2 days)
Mondays are for experiments and leftovers
Week 2:
Sheetpan meal – Steak and potatoes (2 days)
Steamed Rice with Thai veggies and salsa (2 days)
Sheetpan meal – Sesame Chicken (has broccoli, peppers, cauli, sweet potato) (2 days)
Mondays are for experiments and leftovers
Week 3:
Sheetpan meal – Cashew/Nut Chicken (has peppers and onions) (2 days)
Steamed Rice with Thai veggies and Dal (2 days)
Sheetpan meal - Ranch Pork Chops and potatoes with Brussels sprouts (2 days)
Mondays are for experiments and leftovers
I have a small list of recipes that I’d like to try on Mondays, which is my first day off in my workweek. Snacks are the next to research, because if I’m out of the house I forget to eat, unless I have something delicious in my backpack. Having an alarm go off with something fun to remind me to eat is something I’m working on too. I don’t always have the energy to do these things - prep food, clean the kitchen, remember to eat, set alarms – but when I get it ready I’m hopeful I can have that energy in the future. These recipes might seem daunting to some, but for nearly three years I’ve been eating either fast food, or heat&eat rice from Dollarama plus chips, ramen, and coffee, and I feel like absolute garbage. I have started taking vitamins to get some strength and energy back, knowing I eat very poorly, which I believe is what’s helped me make this tonight. (I wrote most of these meals just for this post, so there are SOME cylinders firing up there in the ol’ noodlenoggin).
I’m a trained cook, and cooking for one has been hard, but I think I can manage these. I seriously miss cooking, and I need way more variety and vegetation in my diet. Ima get sick if I don’t.
If there are any recipes you guys want to try out, let me know and I’ll share them. :)

Hi!
If you haven’t answered them already, 4, 12, and 13.
Hello, Mel. Even if I have, I'd still answer them again for you. <3
what flower would you like to be given?
I never know what to do with flowers...not much of a plant girl. But I love the big petal ones; poppies and tulips. A past boyfriend once gave me a bouquet for my birfday that was all peach/yellow/pink/orange roses, tulips, and daffodils and I almost died, it was so pretty. One of my neighbors has purple-black tulips and I love them so much. I enjoy just about anything other than lilies because allergies...
My SO once gave me two roses for my birfday cut and assembled out of delicate white paper. I think those were my favorites.
how are you?
I'm alright for the most part. I had a headache most of the day I didn't get much done and that kind of makes me sad. But it's okay. Taking it easy is the best way not to have a headache for multiple days!
How are YOU?
what’s your comfort food?
Oh baby. Oh honey. Oh love of my night. How much time do you have? Savory breakfast foods. Tacos. Ramen. I have a comfort order at just about every fast food restaurant known to the western world. Macaroni and cheese. Ice cream. I am a hoor for dairy. Grocery store sushi. Cheese on buttered toast. Tea and cookies. I also have a terrible sweet tooth so I won't turn away anything with chocolate or coffee in it. Tikka masala. I make a baked salmon and pickle rice bowl at least once a week. Now I'm hungry and it's your fault. (But thank you because I haven't eaten dinner yet and should do that.)

I feel a little overtired today. I don't even know why. I was fine until like lunchtime. But it's got me being all emotional. I both hope someone comes and hangs out with me and that everyone leaves me alone. I also have so much to do tonight and it's got me a bit stressed out.
I will be okay. But today just became really stressful. At least I slept really well. I fell asleep pretty easy. And when I woke up I was just cold but I was feeling good.
I am not loving all my clothes. But it will be fine. I'm going to bring some home this weekend and sort out what I'll wear this week instead of just having everything. I knew I should have made outfits but I thought I wouldn't need to. Ah well. Lesson learned.
I got myself together and was happy that I didn't have to bring the wagon to the office. But I would go down to make copies. The printer accidentally made 80 copies of one of the pictures and none of the others. But whatever. They can all color space monkeys that's fine.
I went to flag and then to breakfast. Breakfast was pretty good. And me and Laura gave a pretty good system of food and clean up. So all specialty staff gets to eat.
I was a little in my feelings all day though. A little self conscious. A little sad. Sometimes it's just like that I guess.
Braiding my hair helped. And I liked my clothes. It would be a good day.
I had sort of a light day. Only 4 groups. And they were nice for the most part! There was one child who was screaming at his councilors that they worked for him and he was just melting down. So we had to call in for backup. But he would do the art by the end and everyone made such cute pieces. I have to try to get some pictures tomorrow because it's such a fun project and kids are doing a great job.
I am also just enjoying hanging out with them. Making. My own stuff while they make theirs. I was able to make a couple bracelets and another bear. I had caught up on my knitting when Laura and Charlie came to hang out last night so that was all good. Making stuff has just been really fun.
I had a two hour break for lunch today. And I would spend it in my hammock and just enjoying the beautiful day.
Lunch was a little hectic. The kitchen for a little overwhelmed with requests. Later, at dinner, they would request that only me and Kieran come back to ask for more food. I have no idea why they chose me and Chris said he will talk to them. But that responsibility was a little overwhelming for me too!!
My afternoon groups were easy breezy. I had the littlest campers again. And this group needed more scissor help but they still did a great job. Though I really had to convince them to trust me about cutting up their drawings. In the end everyone was happy.
I ended the day with the oldest girls. They mostly made bracelets and sketched but I taught one to make a bead lizard and then everyone was jealous. I got to just chat with Mora and we showed each other our art. I also taught one of the international counselors to make a look bracelet. It was a good time.
I went to the pool next. I swam for an hour. Floated in a noodle with Remi and Izzy. And just enjoyed the sun for a bit. It was fairly cool back at the arts building today so being warmed up was nice.
I would take a shower down there. Before heading to the office for a meeting. I got pulled away for a few minutes to help a parent with lost and found. And then rejoined the meeting.
I am glad Elizabeth is trying her best to make sure we are all okay. But for real most of us are self sufficient and it's just supply issues. Which she is working on remedying.
My only real issue came later. And it was with theme. It's always with theme. Theme makes me so stressed out. Dinner was fine. We had tacos. And they did tubes tonight. Which I have agreed to do only when Alexi and Chloe do it, so that is fun. I bet James will give me a name like tuber peanut because of circus peanuts. Because they like to bully me over my food choices!!
After dinner I went to try and collect the bottles form the trading post I have asked for over and over. And was very disheartened to find that no one had put them in the box I left out and so I had to spend a half hour digging in the trash. I have almost everything I need but I was hurt that no one helped me out. Like it wasn't a big ask.
I talked to Heather and nurse Joan about it and felt a little better after. We apparently have sent a dozen people home because of exposure or sickness so that is probably some of the heaviness of today. A collective fear and stress. Thankfully nurse Joan says this strain is super weak and is just an uncomfortable cold. So at least I don't have to be to scared I guess. I am still masking when it feels necessary and insisting on hand washing. But it just feels very much like it's looming in a way it didn't before. I don't even know if that's true. The feeling. But I am trying to stay positive.
I would spend an hour or so sorting and cleaning the bottles. I went to get the theme boxes and only 7 we're there again. And then I dropped two and had to pick up a bunch of crayons from the gravel and got really upset.
But when I got back up here I just decided to come sit in my hammock outside. And write my post as the sun went down.
I am really tired. But I think I'm going to have a snack and try to work on theme stuff. At least for a little while.
I hope tomorrow is a good day. I hope the kids are good and I have fun. I also hope I sleep well and feel better about myself.
Good night everyone. Take care.

Option 3 gluten-free
What are gluten free diets? What is celiac disease?
A gluten-free diet is when someone avoids food that has gluten in it. Example anything that contains wheat such as pasta, cakes, cookies, cereals and many more. Even though someone that’s following the gluten free diet can feel like they're missing out on food there are alternative gluten free opinions.
A celiac disease is when someone's body can’t handle gluten and their body reacts like it’s allergic to gluten foods. Some symptoms someone with celiac disease faces are stomach pain, diarrhea and bloating. People with celiac disease cannot eat food with gluten added to it to stay healthy.
What are some reasons people decide to follow a gluten-free diet? In my opinion , what are some challenges they faced while following the diet?
One of the main reason why people decide to follow the gluten free diet it is because they have the celiac disease which they cannot consume anything with gluten because it will cause damage/ pain in their body specifically thier intestine the other reason people follow the diet is some might not like food that have gluten their body might not tolerate it and lastly people tend to follow the gluten and free diet because it a preference and a choice they made.
Are there any benefits to following a gluten free diet when you don’t have Celiac disease?
Many people decide to follow the gluten-free diet because they see results that it’s easier for them to lose weight, it also gives them more energy, and it improves their body health.
Can you see yourself following a gluten free diet? How easy or difficult is it to identify gluten free foods?
Yes, I can see myself following the gluten free diet. Before this assignment I really didn’t know much about the diet and how there are more alternatives. I think when it comes to identifying gluten and free food it's gotten pretty easier because now some stores have a section to let people know there’s gluten-free opinions if wanted. Or even lots of food brands are making gluten-free opinions for people that follow the diet they can get the same ingredient while following their diet.
Follow a gluten-free diet and write down the food you ate?
I decided to follow the gluten-free diet on 03/21/2024. Below is everything gluten-free I ate for the day.
Breakfast-  breakfast Taco
                   2  gluten-free flour tortillas
                   2 eggs (salt, black pepper)
1 piece of halal turkey strip
                  ½ avocado
                  Diced tomatoes
                  Hellmans gluten-free Mayo
                  2 cups  of water
Lunch-       sushi bowl
                  Plain white rice
                 ¼ avocado
                 Regular can of tuna
                Hellmans gluten-free mayo
                1 pack of seaweed
                2 cups of water
Snack-      A mix fruit bowl
A bowl of flamin hot cheetos
1 sparkling ice natural water(black     raspberry)
Dinner-     1 season salmon
Cut up air fried sweet potato
                 5 cooked asparagus
                  1 cut up green  apple
                 2 cups of water
Reflect on your experience. How easy was it to find or cook gluten-free meals? Did you face any challenge? Would you follow the diet again?
In my experience following the gluten-free diet I found it pretty fun. The day before I went to the store to buy ingredients I wanted to make to follow this diet, also my family doesn't follow the gluten-free diet. They eat anything that’s halal so I had to go buy ingredients. So when I went to the store it was easy for me to find gluten-free stuff because my local store has a section for gluten-free eaters. I think the hardest part for me was figuring out what I wanted to cook since I don’t know how to cook. So I decided whatever I was going to make for the day It has to be easy to make and quick. Later I figured out what I wanted to make and meal prep when the next day came everything was easy for me since I had all the ingredients and knew what to cook/eat throughout the day. I think I will follow this diet again once I learn how to cook so I can make better meals or once I move out on my own so all the groceries I buy will be gluten-free and i can really fouce on the diet not having to worry theres gluten eaters in the house. I think the hardest part was when my mom was cooking and I couldn’t eat whatever she made because in my family we don’t follow the gluten-free diet or any diet at all. if it halal then we will eat it. So if I want to follow this diet again it would have to be when I learn how to cook or when I move out on my own.

Kitchen Mouse, 4503 N Figueroa St., Los Angeles (Montecito Heights), CA 90065
Tumblr media
Kitchen Mouse has expanded again, with a cute walk-up coffee & bakery spot in Montecito Heights (near Mount Washington and south Highland Park). There is a small kitchen, so you can also order off a limited menu: vegan breakfast sandwich, vegan waffles, bagel sandwiches, and fancy toasts. The pastry case had two shelves of gluten-free pastries (muffins, brownies, cookies, scones, cakes) and two shelves of pastries with gluten (vegan bagels, vegan croissants, danish). There’s also drip coffee, cold brew, espresso drinks, tea, and hot chocolate.
Order at the window and pay first. Prices are on the higher side but they do make their own pastries and their own schmears, and offer lots of gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and even nut-free options.
Buckwheat waffle, vegan, gluten-free ($9) with Earl Grey whip ($1.50): A thick, Belgian style waffle with vegan butter and real maple syrup. Excellent – I didn’t miss the gluten. The buckwheat waffle (made with buckwheat, oat, corn flour and flax, maple & coconut oil) has a nutty flavor and the waffle was moist with crisp edges. They provided plenty of vegan Earl Grey whip which did taste like Earl Grey and wasn’t too sweet. The waffle took about 15 minutes and they weren’t busy.
Cappuccino ($5): No foam art, strong and very bitter, wouldn’t get again
This is meant to be a takeout spot though there are three outdoor picnic tables (shared with Taco Fiesta?). They also sell some KM merch and coffee beans. They have their own coffee roast (Ethiopian). Parking was easy to find in the strip mall.
4 out of 5 stars

The Wind River Range
August 21-27
The Pinedale Visitor Center was beyond generous; they had free backpacking food, town clothes, a laundry service, charging stations, and recommendations for lodging in town. We decided to stay at the town campground, in order to save money for food. We paid five dollars each for a shower at the Jackelope Hostel. The outdoor shower was quite nice. As Owen came out of the shower, though, a huge storm suddenly rolled in. Winds up to 65 mph were blowing rocks and rain sideways onto the porch. Everything on the counters was blowing off. Owen and I put on our rain gear and huddled between the counter and the shower for some protection. Two hikers came out to the porch to smoke cigarettes (!). They found us huddled and invited us in to the hostel room. One of the hikers immediately bailed on the smoking plan, and came inside with us. The other took shelter in the shower stall to smoke a cigarette. Inside, everyone was very generous, and gave us beers and snacks. We all chatted while waiting out the storm. Afterwards, we learned that this is one of the worst storms they have had in Pinedale, and that an old tree had blown down on Main Street! We saw the damage on our walk back across town for dinner at a local brewery. The weather cooperated afterwards for a peaceful night of camping.
We slept in then hit up a local breakfast place for some delicious burritos. We ate with two other hikers, Taco and Starlink, who came in. They told us about their experience on Knapsack Col, a popular but difficult alt in the Wind River Range. Then we did laundry and resupplied. We ran into the tramily we’d hiked with on Big Sky: the Quebecois couple Stupid Check and Double Check, the Irish woman Eye Roll, and the American No Chill. It was great to see them all again. We hung out a little longer in town then started the long hitch back to the Green River. An older hippie couple brought us half way, then a mother and daughter picked us up. The mother is a professional viola da gamba player who winters in Annapolis and knows family friends Max and Suzie. They brought us to their house for some snacks and arnica gel (the woman insisted it would help with my back bruise). They also made sure we had a bar of chocolate to pack out. They were so nice! We walked about 6 miles and found a place to camp that would stage us well for completing Knapsack Col the following day.
We woke up a little earlier and climbed steadily into the start of the Wind River Range. We saw two moose on our way up. The alternate included a lot of boulder fields and route-finding. The final climb was incredibly steep and rocky, with some scree to really make things difficult. We got to the top and it was really exciting; 12,200 feet, our highest climb yet! But then we had to go down the rocks on the other side, which was even more challenging than going up. Finally, we got to a snow field and slid down that. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very steep or long, so the easy descent was short-lived. We continued climbing down, exhausted from such a big day, and found a place to camp near a lake.
The following day, we rejoined the red line and hiked three valleys and passes. The Wind River Range was beautiful and diverse, with lots of alpine lakes and ecosystems. There were many other people out backpacking. We met up with another SOBO CDT hiker from Denmark, named Biz. We camped with him above 10,000 feet and got our first night with a frost! That day, we started another alt, called Cirque of the Towers, which came highly recommended. We had to hike up Texas Pass, which was extremely steep and all rocks and scree, but it was only half a mile. Then we descended down to Lonesome Lake and found a camping spot. It was absolutely stunning there! Plus some other hikers invited us to their campsite for whiskey and hot cocoa. They were from Leadville, CO (a trail town we’d hit in the future) and have us some good intel.
We’d heard from EVERYONE that there were going to be afternoon thunderstorms, so we woke up early to make sure we got up and over the passes before the storm. We completed the Cirque of the Towers alt, which was gorgeous. Some ominous clouds rolled in, but we made it up and over our last pass of the day in time. We heard thunder strike twice very close to us and found a tree to shelter under. We rested our umbrellas in the branches and ate lunch below them. The storm was over within 15 minutes and the skies were clear and sunny the rest of the day. But we ran into some other challenges; there were hundreds of blow downs to climb over, which actually led us off the trail. So then we had to route back to trail. We started climbing a game trail straight up a cliff, but it got too steep, so we went back down and boulder hopped along the side of a lake. Finally, we returned to the red line and started walking out of the mountains. We camped in a dry spot and were delighted to have absolutely no condensation in our tent the following morning.
From there, we hiked a half day out to the highway to hitch into Lander. We ran into a father and son who were cutting firewood and offered us a ride. The father was a retired National Forest Ranger and the son is a BLM firefighter. They gave us some interesting perspective on the surrounding forests and natural history. We stayed at an RV park in Lander and went out to eat with the Checks, Eye Roll, No Chill, and Biz. The next day, we resupplied at the NOLS headquarters (s/o to Mason; they gave us a discount because of you!). They had an amazing selection of bulk backpacking foods as well as a free section with extra food that had been returned from their trips. We got a ride out of town from a couple that we’d seen at the grocery store, who had just finished their backpacking trip through the Winds.
