DUBLIN NIGHT TWO (october 17th, 2023) RECAP:
-Miles looking up and pointing at the mirrorball while singing the lines "I stare up to the moon, and my lonely heart goes boom boom boom once again" during “One Man Band”.
-Alex reaching out for and smiling at a turtle plushie somebody threw on stage before they started playing “Arabella”.
-Alex saying: “Let’s hear it for Miles Kane! Wonderful.” before playing “Fluorescent Adolescent”
-Alex adding: “Do you remember? I remember…” while pointing at Miles at the end of “Fluorescent Adolescent” after the lights went out.
-Miles watching “505” from the side of the stage with Alex repeatedly turning to his right side.
-Alex singing “I Wanna Be Yours” turned to his right for the entirety of the song while walking to the corner of the stage. (After adding the line “I DON’T WANNA BE HERS, I WANNA BE YOURS” while the lights were out, the night before, in Belfast.)
-Alex pointing at Miles and then at himself while singing the line “I found out the hard way that here ain’t no place for dolls like you and me” and singing the rest of the verse directly at that side.

Do you guys really believe that killing is the singular bad thing that cops do?
Or even that killing is the most frequent bad thing that cops do?
Are you saying that if cops didn't kill, then they'd be the same as Batman? Because then you're suggesting that effectively Batman already is a cop, with the exception that he hasn't killed (just like the majority of U.S. cops, who have never once shot or killed anybody).
I'm a bit worried to see opinions suggesting that only killing is wrong—and that violence, stalking, and humiliation are okay. In real-life, police commit countless acts of those "little" abuses, terrorizing entire communities, before they murder anybody.
Invading people's privacy is wrong. Hurting people to the point of hospitalization is wrong. Forcibly drugging people is wrong. Putting people in cages is wrong. Torture and "enhanced interrogation" are wrong. Ambushing people in their homes and safe places is wrong. Keeping inexhaustible wealth is wrong.
Superhero comics are power fantasies. Not all fantasies need to reflect our ideology in reality. But once you apply your real-life values to fiction, once you decide that fiction showcases exemplary real-life ideology—then your praise for Batman's ideology does become a worrying reflection of your real-life understanding of social issues.

tumblr seems to be all good with the news of dd2 so far but i think a lot of the more hardcore ppl on reddit, discord, etc expected too much from this game, especially with ppl comparing it to the likes of elden ring (soulsbornes and their impact on the arpg genre is another can of worms for another time tbh) and bg3. from the get go, the devs made it clear that it's a personal passion project that doesn't NEED to try to reinvent the wheel but wants to stick to its personal philosophy as being a primarily fun love letter to old school rpgs including the wacky mechanics of long rests, limited fast travel, etc. than trying to break new industry standards or whatever? idk. obvs i haven't played the game and shit and my opinion is probs gonna change as is normal when playing vs speculating but some ppl set their expectations too high when nobody ever promised mind-bendingly novel mechanics lmao. the game isn't perfect but it never wanted to be anyway

this is like #9000 on the list of stuff bendis fucked up, but the one niche thing that i would personally stone him for is erasing post-infinite crisis daxam in favor of just turning them into Generic Alien Race #3467. for lots of reasons, but mostly because that whole mesoamerican futuristim-inspired thing they had was Neat & could've so easily been made into something really, really cool in the right writer's hands
and like yeah, admittedly it was only around for all of like 5 minutes in 2009, so it was pretty unlikely that anyone would pick back up on it, but it was still at least still technically a canon thing! it was swept so far under the rug that most people never saw anything about it, but it was there!! there was a chance, however slim, that someone could do something with it!!! until bendis!! and now it's completely gone, and they're just blandass stock image aliens!! hate!!!

sensoria
Mouth. Tongue. And hands. Feathering over the nape of her neck, down her arms, around her waist. Tightening, just a little. Just enough. More. Body heat against the winter’s chill, and she shifts even nearer, pressing herself to him. Her hands sliding under his coat. Urgency. The brocade textures of his vest, the dartdance of delicate fingers freeing constraints, here let me help you, and ohh that sigh he gives. The firm contours of his body. Her pulse rapid. Breathe. The way he looks at her. Emerald flame. Hunger.
The bite of the wind an incision but it’s no competition for carnal desire. Need. The inevitability of his reaction and a demanding unstoppable interruption finds her held tight against his chest in cover, an embrace insistent forceful protective, his physical heat a stark contrast to the icy air as with sharpgasped deep inhalation, deeper again, he turns to surrender and
hh-HHH
all she feels is
(the catch in his breath the race of her heartbeat his need oncoming her need oncoming their need oncoming and)
h-hhHHAAAHTSCH-uu!
fire.

i get why people would opt to say walter was a terrible person since the beginning, but i think that's like, the most boring takeaway you can get about his character. he was already insecure and prideful from the start, and it's what would hurt him and keep hurting him. but like, being insecure and prideful are regular traits any regular person can have. the actions that he makes because of these traits, which in turn keep fueling his ego more and more, are what makes him an interesting character. and he was already pretty capable of hurting other people, but he wasn't doing it out of malice, but more because of careless selfishness at first. what makes walter terrifying is that the more he does it, the more he becomes aware of what he's doing, and the more he keeps going and keeps being more and more meticulous and deliberate about what he does that hurts people and even to the point when it was specifically to hurt people.
i think the traits were there in walter from the beginning—the pilot did a pretty good job of establishing how powerless he's felt all his life and just how susceptible he is to letting this newfound perceived power get to his head so easily. he even says this explicitly in 5x06 "Buyout" when he tells jesse "i'm not in the money business, i'm in the empire business". but saying he was this monster from the start kind of implies he didn't undergo through a character arc throughout the show when it's quite literally what he did. he got worse. so much worse. through mostly the fault of his own fragility.

ok I'm not saying there aren't spectacularly gullible people out there but just because you tell a lie and no one calls you out on it, that doesnt mean anyone believes you. my old roommate once told me that she was a famous artist when she was five years old, forced to churn out masterpieces by her greedy and evil mother. I wasn't like "well I don't believe you because that's insane and obviously a lie" I said "wow that must have been really hard for you".
Some of the people on that post are like "I convinced someone my dog can speak French!!" or whatever. Have you considered they were just humoring you and that on the bus home with their friends they were like I just met the weirdest person alive?

You’d think a man who had a whirlwind romance and marriage, followed by a subsequent divorce and decision to SEPARATE YOUR IDENTICAL TWIN DAUGHTERS AT BIRTH so you never have to see your ex again would be more hesitant about getting remarried so soon into a new relationship

When I started playing the new Final Horizon update I was expecting pure fun playing as Amy, Knuckles and Tails all while getting new story and a better final boss.... I wasn't expecting I was signing up for extra hard mode that made me feel very drained despite my setting being clearly set to normal difficulty.

Lou’s playing a game but we missed it,
So li’l bear stepped in and assisted;
On cheekbones we’d focused,
So clues went unnoticed—
His songs and his mind are both twisted.
