Do you guys really believe that killing is the singular bad thing that cops do?

Or even that killing is the most frequent bad thing that cops do?

Are you saying that if cops didn't kill, then they'd be the same as Batman? Because then you're suggesting that effectively Batman already is a cop, with the exception that he hasn't killed (just like the majority of U.S. cops, who have never once shot or killed anybody).

I'm a bit worried to see opinions suggesting that only killing is wrong—and that violence, stalking, and humiliation are okay. In real-life, police commit countless acts of those "little" abuses, terrorizing entire communities, before they murder anybody.

Invading people's privacy is wrong. Hurting people to the point of hospitalization is wrong. Forcibly drugging people is wrong. Putting people in cages is wrong. Torture and "enhanced interrogation" are wrong. Ambushing people in their homes and safe places is wrong. Keeping inexhaustible wealth is wrong.

Superhero comics are power fantasies. Not all fantasies need to reflect our ideology in reality. But once you apply your real-life values to fiction, once you decide that fiction showcases exemplary real-life ideology—then your praise for Batman's ideology does become a worrying reflection of your real-life understanding of social issues.

Dollie is obsessive and very ID driven in personality....a pleasure seeker who takes offense at anything causing her pain. There's not a lot of things she'd unwilling to do to get what she wants, but can stop herself in situations which would lead to her being caught by people who would restrain her, that being the law or otherwise.

With a noticeable valley girl accent and a palpable sex appeal, she is frequently underestimated by those around her despite her 6' height and glitzy fashion sense. She uses this to her advantage and is often the smartest person in the room, which can lead to boredom often.

She dropped out of highschool and left her emotionally unavailable parents home to begin working in various trades, one being a painter, and became quite successful early on, though she makes most of her income in more underground fashions. She is now in her mid twenties and lives comfortably, and could probably retire on what she has made, but stays active in her various communities as the social creature she is.

In what feels like contradiction to a lot of this, she is a highly religious person, though to others it seems unclear exactly what sect she belongs to, most assume some kind of catholic. She can often be seen counting her rosaries or praying in her down time, and has been known to say psalms under her breath at inappropriate times.

Not many know Dollie on a personal level, however those who do would say she can often be erratic with a terrifying temper. She keeps it locked away relatively well from the general public, and has various outlets to soothe such episodes, like boxing or painting or killing in cold blood.

I'm sitting. I'm waiting for Cogita to finish the Red Chain. She said it should be ready by tonight, but leaving in the morning may be the better option. I have to make sure I'm ready to put him in his place. I can't fuck this up, or this will not go well. At all. I don't think he's capable, normally, of harming actual gods.

I still think a lot about the fact xe’ra literally does not care who you are or what you do if you’re not following the path she thinks you should be following

like. she outright says idc how good she is i care she's not following the light. and this is also true in regards to how she deals with alleria and her ties to the void in general. it's not even you're messing with dangerous evil powers as much as it is you're not following the one right path.

Alleria Windrunner. Will you renounce the Void and pledge obedience to the Light? Alleria spoke without fear. "I will fight the Burning Legion until it is dust." Answer my question. "We walk different paths, but we are not enemies. I have seen it. I will join the Army of the Light in the final battle against the Legion, and together we will bring the demons down." No, Alleria. You will not. You will remain here, imprisoned, until you accept the path of righteousness once again. I will not allow you to taint what I have foreseen.

those are all from a thousand years of war. in game, she shows herself to be even more blatantly forceful in rejection of the gift, and all thoughout the quests where she insists on how things have to come to pass in exactly the way she believes is right, which once more demand that people be with the light. the fact alleria was left alive has more to do with her obsession with what she has seen than anything lothraxion or turalyon said - it's just that in the future she had seen, alleria was a part of the final battle against the legion, and killing her would change that as much as alleria's ties to the void.

i figure she reasoned alive alleria could still be converted. turalyon's conviction that alleria would come back to the light probably only served to strengthen that, which is why after looking into his heart she offers allera the chance to forsake the void, and when she refuses, xe'ra imprisons her instead of killing her.

and there's also the fact whatever appreciation she held for turalyon, if it was sincere at any point at all, is not significant enough at this point. he's a pawn; his pleading alone would have amounted to nothing. before alleria goes back, there's this part that makes it clear:

Turalyon wearily walked deep into the Xenedar to find Xe'ra. He would tell her of his failure. And he would hear nothing in return. She had foretold that the champions fighting on Azeroth were the only hope of defeating the Burning Legion. Her mind was utterly focused on helping them fend off the invasion.

all of that is part of why i see alleria's imprisonment the way i do. we're never given specifics, but i find it really difficult to believe considering all we see of her that xe'ra would just have locked her up and left her be expecting that alone would lead to a change of heart. when faced with the threat of death, still alleria didn't change her mind. alleria not only sought the power of a rival force, she outright disobeyed the naaru's commands and defied the vision she's so obsessed with.

xe'ra is forceful and completely obsessed with the future she thinks is right, and like I said, alleria consorting with the void does not fit in with it. she would try to force alleria to change with more than just locking her up. by which i mean to say i do believe some level of torture happened. physically, it wouldn't be difficult to use pain against alleria when contact with the light causes her severe pain. but alleria is very tough when it comes to resisting physical harm, as seen in:

The apprentice inquisitor floated above his dais, looming over Alleria as the bonds of fel magic sent needles of pain shooting through her mind. "Tell me how to find the Xenedar or you will suffer for all eternity." The Burning Legion had shown such creativity in its torments when Alleria first arrived on Niskara. The demons were expert interrogators, capable of inventive ways of cracking open defiant wills. There had been moments when she had genuinely feared she might succumb to the agony… or at the very least, let slip that she had wanted to be brought to this prison. But this? This was downright lazy. It was hard to conceal her contempt. The high inquisitor had talent for his craft. This apprentice had no imagination.

I can see some sort of let's use the light to burn this taint from you thing going on. I think it would have included some degree of psychological torment as well, and that xe'ra, knowing how much alleria loves arator, may have tried to use that too. she likely would have worsened alleria’s guilt, as well as tried to instill in her the belief she’d be unworthy of any sort of kindness for as long as she was tainted by the void, though I think ultimately xe'ra is too violent in her approaches when denied to have really focused on that. I think she’d have gone the physical route more often than not, although that would be what alleria would resist the most easily.

and i think the reason why she never did go all the way is simply alleria (and the void) would fight to death before giving in to the light. the fel is not a polar opposite in the same way shadow is to light. i just think it wouldn't be easy for a living being to endure being purged of either force by the other and living (and alleria being kept alive was important for xe'ra's vision).

who among the crew of the xenedar would now is up in the air. alleria wouldn't speak of it. she wouldn't feel safe enough to say anything against xe'ra in the xenedar, knowing that even if the naaru herself didn’t do anything there was a army of her devoted followers around; and she wouldn’t feel safe enough to trust turalyon to believe and stand with her no matter what, considering he didn't speak against her imprisonment, only against her being killed.

Absolutely idiotic. Art should be allowed to show fucked up shit. Survivors should be allowed to express their trauma through their own work and to be able to share their work with a community so non-artists know they’re not alone.

Art should be allowed to show violence. Art should be able to show rape. Art should be able to show bullying and suicide. Art should be able to show self harm. And a whole lot of other nasty things that make people uncomfortable.

Why can’t we have fun playing with these concepts of toxic pairings? Why is it a frowned upon? Why can’t we defang our own fears and memories so that they don’t constantly torment us? Why can’t we, even for a moment, have fun playing with dolls?

The sanitation of the internet goes hand-in-hand with the sanitation of art and it’s so fucking sad to witness.
