Justin Bieber is super nice, he seemed genuinely honored and happy to be there. Him and Mitch Marner are sooo cute, Justin was so supportive of him all the time and cheered backstage so much. He's also cool with Crosby apparently, saw them talking a lot. Met Hailey briefly and not surprised, just classic model behavior, glasses on inside, didn't say hi to anybody just a slight smile. It's fine I guess but compared to Justin who was a ray of sunshine seemed kinda odd. Michael Bublé did not 'accidentally' take a huge dose of weed, he was joking about how high he was and laughing about smoking more afterwards. Will Arnett is like a drunk uncle but not drunk. Both nice. Tate McCrae is soo sweet! I felt her because we were only like 5/6 women backstage and she was the only female captain, also with an ex who is an NHL player so already has that "puck bunny" reputation, so her being there was cool to see. Her BF was also backstage, but I don't think the players knew it was her BF haha, a colleague and I noticed at least 15 of the guys walking up to her and chatting it up. Ones I remember that looked flirty are Sway, the Hughes (they talked throughout the whole weekend and they're all around the same age so may have been friendly but you know how men are), Elias Lindholm, Elias Petterson, & Mat Barzal. She obviously talked to a lot of people but these I remember looking more like them trying to get somewhere with her. Her and her BF are so cute though! He was very touchy with her. Saw her talking to Boone Jenner for a while, but he seemed just friendly. He is also her ex's teammate so wonder what that's about.

PLAYERS:

Auston Matthews is actually really charismatic. At one point the whole dressing room went quiet and we heard him singing "Baby" by Justin Bieber. We all cracked up haha. The Hughes brothers had a fight the first day, don't really know about what but Jack walked in upset and Quinn wouldn't even look at him. Both with their frowning RBF. McDavid had the same attitude as Hailey Bieber LOL. He softened up a bit when talking to other players but otherwise he is super cold always. Pasta and Travis Konecny also seemed to lowkey hate each other. Colleague told me Travis doesn't like Pasta at all but can't 100% confirm that as I didn't hear it directly, just an interesting rivalry. The Canucks players were like a group of mean girls, they literally stuck together the entire weekend, even if they were drafted to separate teams. Vincent Trocheck flirted his ASS off with several women, myself included. Found out later he was married. Swayman is truly a nice person, I think he and Boone Jenner were the only ones who said hi to the whole crew and also goodbye. Also saw him and Georgiev have a bro-hug after they lost the game and he said something to him that made him really laugh, it was very cute. The Hughes also seem to not like Suzuki, avoided him all weekend. Cale Makar is like a doll haha he is so awkward all the time and everytime he speaks his face looks like he immediately regrets it.

GOD this is such a good question they deserve an actual fic about it at some point but i don't know when i'll get there but augh!!!

@dot524 this is my response to ur comment on the alice ask re: my take on bellatrix lol i simply could not fit everything i wanted to say in one comment!!

ok so i think bellatrix is SUCH an interesting character and specifically in my canon interpretation of her i'm drawing a lot on like. the psychology behind right-wing women who align themselves with their oppressors. because i truly just think that IS bellatrix as a character, at least in canon. (also - i do have a little drabble i wrote abt her kinda going into this interpretation here!)

so - first off, i'm interpreting pureblood wizard culture as deeply patriarchal, with an emphasis on marriages to produce male heirs who can carry on the family name. in this context, bellatrix and her sisters are already a disappointment to their father, who wanted sons, and they are raised to believe that their highest calling as pureblood women is to marry into a pureblood family and have sons. that is their duty as good pureblood women, and that is how they can make their families proud.

i think that these patriarchal constrictions naturally grate against bellatrix--she's loud, she's powerful, she's independent, she's a warrior. but she is also an older sister and an eldest daughter. and i imagine a family situation where her mother, druella, is just kind of checked out and worn down and where their father, cygnus, is very resentful towards his wife for "failing" to provide him with an heir (the single most important duty of a pureblood woman). so i imagine bellatrix having to step into this role very young where she's almost like a surrogate mother to her sisters, where she's the protector, and she's the responsible one, and she's the one who has to make sure they are all upholding their family duty.

so then fast-forward to bellatrix finishing school. i think her parents would have her betrothed almost immediately and that she'd be married off essentially right when she's beginning her adult life. and i do not imagine a particularly loving relationship with rodolphus lmao. but as much as bellatrix doesn't want to be in that situation, i think she'd be telling herself, over and over again, that this is her duty, this is what she's meant to do, this is how she upholds the pureblood traditions. because she's been placed in this situation where like. she has to be invested in pureblood traditions. she has to. if she allows herself to start questioning it or to blame it for cornering her into this shitty life, then suddenly the life she's living loses all meaning, and she also can't protect her sisters anymore. like as long as she is swallowing the lie that the highest honor and ultimate goal of any pureblood witch should be to carry on the pureblood family lines, she has the power to protect her sisters within that system, to raise them to follow in her footsteps and be good pureblood witches and benefit from the privilege and power they're afforded within the system. the moment she admits or even allows herself to wonder if the system itself is violent, suddenly she and her sisters are all caught in this trap, and she can't drag them out of it. which is unthinkable! she's the protector. she's protecting them.

so bellatrix gets married. she keeps trying to be this good pureblood witch, even as it kills her inside. she starts trying to give rodolphus an heir, but for whatever reason, she can't. she's not getting pregnant. she's not having sons (again, this part is my interpretation. there's no set canonical explanation for why bellatrix doesn't have kids).

and THEN. andromeda runs away. she elopes with ted. she does the one thing that bellatrix has never been allowed to do: she breaks away from the pureblood system.

i think bellatrix would be furious. i think she would hate andy, or at least think she did. because she spent years protecting her sisters, telling herself that the only thing that gives their lives meaning is this violent system, and so she needs to make sure that they can have good lives within that system. and now here's andy, going--actually, the system's fucked. i'm out.

bellatrix can't do that. she's in too deep. to admit that pureblood culture is fucked would shatter her entire world, the life she has spent years trying to build. so instead, andy running away turns her further towards pureblood culture. it's those mudbloods who are deteriorating wizard culture, who infected her sister with their lifestyle, who took andy from her. andromeda running away with ted pushes bellatrix deeper into her investment in pureblood power. and we essentially get a repeat of this whole situation when sirius runs away, except with an added layer of resentment--because he was supposed to be the heir. he was the one thing that all their parents wanted: a boy. he had all these privileges that bellatrix and her sisters were never afforded, and he threw it all away--it's a slap in the face. and more evidence that muggleborns are corrupting wizard culture, are corrupting pureblood youth, and purebloods need to close ranks and protect real wizards.

and while all this is going on, voldemort is gaining power. he's spreading his agenda of pureblood supremacy. also during these years, i think bellatrix figures out that she can't have kids--which shatters her world, once again. because she's spent her whole life thinking that this is her one purpose: protect pureblood culture by giving birth to a male heir. and now she can't do that. she feels fundamentally broken, useless, worthless. i imagine rodolphus would be resentful, and we'd get the dynamic she grew up seeing between her parents playing out in her own relationship.

I had my friend who doesn't know anything about kagepro give me 2-4 characters from the Dan and I would either explain their dynamic or my HC of it (since my theory is you can make a group of any of the members and it'll have a great dynamic potential) and she gave me Takane and Marry (post-str) and that got me thinking so much like,,, they've interacted in the novels as Ene and Marry and they got along really well it was cute so I just imagine post-str Takane trying to introduce Marry to video games a bit? There is No way Marry would like the sorts of games Takane plays, but you know what I think she'd love? Marry would Love animal crossing. She's like,,, omg,,, you can make a little village for your animal villager friends and you can talk to them and it's so nice :))

Takane and Marry hanging out every once in a while (chilling in the same room) and Marry every once in a while calls her over just to show how her island is looking so far and Takane doesn't play animal crossing hardly ever but she knows enough to be like. Oh fuck yeah. That island is islanding :] Then goes back to her first person shooter or whatnot lmao.

I think Takane should have a friendship with everyone actually and everyone should be able to hang out with each other (to varying degrees of getting along maybe but I like to think they all care each other bc y'know. They were young dumb and full of u know, and elmell freaked out in orc fashion about duty and honor and decided to run away to fulfil said duty, leave Anton behind, but not before crushing that man's confidence with her meanest of mean girl speeches so he'll hopefully move on from her (he didnt) (they still had a son together she kept from him for 30 years) (Anton is a victim)

Grimnir's divorce from his ex-wife came in the form of accidently(?) killing their kid in the name of hircine then being swooped away into the hunting grounds. Oops. Oopsie. Oh uh! 🏹

OUGH okay i will. put all of that under the cut bc i'm definitely going to talk about big spoilers AND IT'S GONNA BE LENGTHY BECAUSE I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS. SV may be a mess in some aspects but the story is the best it's been in many gens, if not the best story in any Pokémon game

i gotta talk about the two elephants in the room first; RIKA AND ARVEN.

For Rika; She's giving me gender envy bc like. god i wish that were me. But also I want to marry her because oh my god I love her and her design so much GAMEFREAK WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME. Why do they always keep getting away with this shit EVERY GOD DAMN GEN that there's a character I end up being down bad for LOL... She's so chill!! But she's also so nice!!! And I'm ough. I really hope any future DLC will give her more screentime or at LEAST let me rematch her because why the fuck can i not fight the E4 again!!! sir!!! lemme see her!!!!!!!!!

Arven.............. he is my son now. That whole last stretch of the story in area zero really REALLY solidified him as my favourite of the main cast because man he's been through a lot and this guy can't catch a fucking break!!! Had to go years without seeing his parents only to find out that the one parent he remembers and saw only very occasionally as a kid died years prior to the game's events protecting the mirai/koraidon you've been traveling with all this time. And the whole thing about Mabosstiff!!! The titan questline had me tearing up on several occasions. im AUGh.... I'm so SO weak for characters like this who appear a bit standoffish at first but then open up to the player and they're just beans that have gone through a lot and are trying to help. And his own resolution to become a chef with the knowledge he now holds over the herba mystica to help others felt like the most logical course of action for him to take so i'm glad he found what he wants to strive for next!! anyways sorry not sorry if i end up drawing him a lot LMAO he lives in my brain rent free. son boy allowed

Then there's Nemona!!! She's so fucking head empty no thoughts and I love her. And if there's something in that head of hers it's just a brick with the only thought being violence and battle. And you know what? good for her! good for her. She's really funny and probably one of the most fun rivals we've had in recent history for pokemon. I like that she's not just super talented either, she literally explains to the trainer when you talk to her in postgame that she had to work hard to even get to this point. She really feels like a mirror to the player but she just took her journey of becoming a champion a year or two earlier than the player did. But also wow same lady ur just like me fr fr

Penny!! she's just a bean that cares for her friends!!! And the team Star story stuff really felt nicely done. Trying to help her friends that were painted as bullies because of a misunderstanding and mismanagement at the school while the team Star members aren't bad people at all. I also absolutely love her sass when traveling with her in Area Zero (and subsequently the dynamic between Penny, Nemona and Arven as a whole, they're best friends now your honor)

AND ALSO CAN I TALK ABOUT HER BATTLE THEME FOR A SECOND BECAUSE ?????????????????????

THEY PUT HARDCORE/HARDSTYLE IN MY POKEMON GAME

I genuinely was not expecting that but hearing the hardbass i was like wtf holy shit they went OFF with this track!!! The track is an absolute banger too but definitely felt unexpected for a character like Penny. Good for her though!! She's got one of the best themes in the game and im jamming

And then Turo! I played Violet but I'm aware that the same thing happens with Sada in Scarlet so it's easy to just replace names. Man... I could talk about this part of the story all fucking day. The professor is probably one of the most interesting "villains" in Pokémon as a whole and I'm SO GLAD that the series finally went down this route, because they absolutely nailed the story telling with this. Area Zero blew me out of the fucking water and was so unexpected!!! This whole segment has "REJUVENATION" written all over it!!! I was literally WAITING for Jan to get to this segment after completing the game, only for him to say the same exact shit LOL. I was not expecting this from a main series Pokémon game at ALL and frankly I'm so glad it did because this whole story segment with made Violet easily one of my favourite pokemon games in the series.

AI Turo stimulating the player from the background to find the herba mystica with arven and them becoming stronger but not really wanting to talk to Arven because-- just like his original counterpart-- he's too focused on the goal of the mission to care for the son of his original counterpart (though him being an AI also might hinder processing emotional attachment even MORE than the original Turo already had problems with). The reason why Turo hasn't visited Arven in years being that the original is dead and AI Turo literally cannot leave the crater due to him needing the power of the Tera crystals to stay functional. AI Turo, despite being the same in almost every possible way, realizing and coming to agree that there's no logic in the original Turo's decision to want to introduce future Pokémon into the ecosystem KNOWING that it'd destroy the old one, making him a better person than the original was-- and painting the original Turo as the villain in this situation due to that his obsession with the future as written in the Violet book drove him to ignore how wrong he was for what he was trying to do, even after death. AI Turo knowing that he himself is part of the security system and needs to be fought in order to put a stop to the time machine, hence why he stimulated the player to keep training and taking care of Miraidon. AI Turo realizing that he needed to go in order to put a total stop to the time machine because his very existence is keeping it active. He says "I want to see the future" and leaves the present day in order to stop the time machine, but there's some deeper implications here; in practice this is AI Turo taking a massive risk by sacrificing himself to save Paldea because on the chance he ends up outside of the crater, he'll cease functioning and will practically die. And you know? The revelation that he's an AI powered robot actually makes total sense if you paid attention to his animations and speech mannerisms; he's the only character that doesn't have a breathing animation (it's not even there in the first video transmission you see of him! and it's the same for Sada in Scarlet) and is constantly identifying the player & friends through student ID's and biometrics rather than acknowledging them as actual people. BUT ALSO THAT BATTLE WAS SO FUCKING COOL!! Genuinely challenging too since you had to figure out his mons' typings on the fly, AND HE'S GOT A BANGER BATTLE THEME. Toby Fox you've done it again you madman

honorable mention goes to Clavell and Grusha, the former because Clavell is fucking funny as hell and I'm so glad he ended up being more involved in the story than I expected. Sir you're a little behind with the times AND YOU ASKED ME WHAT CHEUGY MEANS WHICH KILLED ME but you're all the funnier for it. thank you. Grusha gets the mention because he caught me off guard by having the highest leveled gym team out of any of the gym leaders with having mons at level 47 while I strolled up with my mid-30's team and got my ass blasted. thank you sir. i will now never make the mistake of thinking you're a lower tier gym leader just because TPC advertised you early. good god

All that being said, I could go on about every other character but these really were the ones that stuck out the most in my mind. i have so many thoughts about this game and i swear the brainrot's going to be around for a LONG ASS TIME

Oh gosh! I sadly know a lot less about supernatural creatures than I like, but let's see what I can come up with! I'm trying to more western mythologies just because they're the ones I know the most about. Also if I spent more than a day thinking about these they would probably all change (except for Alice's and Killian's.) and half of them wouldn't be pulled out of my...nose, sorry.

Killian: Selkie. No, wait, hear me out! According to this, 'Male selkies are described as being very handsome in their human form, and having great seductive powers over human women. They typically seek those who are dissatisfied with their lives, such as married women waiting for their fishermen husbands.' And from what I've been able to find, as opposed to being forced into a relationship, they willingly come to a woman seeking them out if they want to.

Regina: I had a thought in my head, but the closest I could come to it in a google search, Onryō, wasn't quite right. (And I don't know enough about Japanese myths to just dive in.) I would think Gorgon for her, very similar with what happened to Medusa. Just cursed because of things that happen to her outside of her control and then using her powers to lash out and destroy at everyone around her even when she doesn't want to. (And then Henry holding up a figurative mirror to her like 'Mom, this is what you're doing, please stop.')

Emma: A Swan Maiden, much for the same reasons why I have Milah as a selkie. (Though very much not my idea and taken from this ask I was sent!)

David: Griffon. Totally. 'Because the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts, and the eagle the king of the birds, by the Middle Ages, the griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature.'

Snow: A Sphynx. Mostly the Egyptian take, 'seen as benevolent, though with strength as ferocious as that of the Greek version.'

Belle: A sort of dragon! Not a scary one, but one that likes to horde books and knowledge like the treasures they are. And she'd be a small one, kind of unassuming, and people underestimate her until she breathes the flame of witty words at them. (There is also an argument to be made that she could also be a selkie, but that would mean I have three.)

Rumple: Isn't he already sort of a mythological creature? But I guess a Chimera would work well for him. So many parts melded together in a way that shouldn't work but typically does. And I don't know if actual (mythological) Chimeras are at odds with their separate parts, but he often is.

Alice: A unicorn because she is the purest and the bestest and is frikkin magical and I want to protect her at all costs and also she probably likes to spend her afternoons laying under apple trees with her head on Robin's lap and that is so very unicorny.

Okay so I spent an hour wracking my brain (or...staring dumbly at my screen, your pick) trying to figure out what Henry could be and I just can't do it so I'll have to get back to you on that one ;.;

18. Fandom that you never expected to get into

rings of power!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i admit i was one of the people who went 'ew, jeff bezos get ur hands off my tolkien' but then was won over by the actual show.

i'll admit the show is... not perfect (still not over The Elves Will Take Our Jobs) but on the other hand? it is actually perfect. the casting is chefs kiss, the costumes are amazing, the characters are so lovable, the music is beyond perfect (bear mccreary vs howard shore is just an impossible question AND IF YOU KNOW HOW GOOD HOWARD SHORE IS THEN YOU KNOW WHAT A STRONG STATEMENT THIS IS.)

as a tolkien adaptation, it's better than the PJ movies, because the way it approaches/alters/questions the text is so much deeper (see: the adar/uruk question.) as a tv show, it's like it was made specifically for me. there are more potential blorbos in this show than any piece of media (average show contains 1-2 blorbos factoid actualy just statistical error. rings of power contains 10-12 blorbos, is an outlier adn should not have been counted.)

honorable mention to i was a teenage exocolonist, the game that just knocked me tf out the last few days. i do not really play games????? but i read one review of exocolonist and went oh i gotta play that??? and the next thing i know i've done 4 runs and irrevocably fallen for an alien boy. tragic. shocking. wonderful. can't recommend this game highly enough.

but Full Disclosure i am not a Lesbian Oracle & i can't tell you whether or not you're a lesbian, that's just something you have to figure out in your own time. but just so you know, there's absolutely no rush to finding your label. there's nothing wrong with trying different ones out until you find one you're comfortable with, & if you don't feel like it, you don't even have to use a label at all!

it really depends on the men you like & in what way you like them. for me personally, i went through pretty much Every Single Label before i figured out i was a lesbian. there were Sometimes men i thought i was attracted to, but turns out it was either comphet or me having No Idea What Romantic Attraction Actually Was. & that may or may not be the case for you!

i'm sure you already know this from your Lesbian Sibling, but if your crushes are exclusively for celebrities/fictional characters/otherwise Unattainable, Unrealistic Men, its very possible it's just comphet! i don't experience comphet super super often, but many many many lesbians do. if you're getting those Romantic Warm Fuzzies about real, Attainable men you Actually Know, then it might be different!

most of the reason why i thought i wasnt a lesbian is because of the "crushes" i had on some boys at my school. the first one i stopped liking Instantly when my friend said he liked me. the second one was the same situation. the third one i stopped liking because he asked me out & even though i said yes & we were dating for all of two weeks, i felt repulsed and incredibly uncomfortable the second it turned Actually Romantic, which is what i thought i wanted.

the way i started figuring out that it wasn't really romantic attraction was by imagining the boys i thought i had a crush on in an objectively very romantic situation. for example, me & Boy Classmate #18 at a candle lit dinner kissing & making out & all that. just writing that made me uncomfortable, which tells me i'm not romantically attracted to Boy Classmate #18.

however! not every lesbian feels the same way about men! some are Repulsed like me, & some are just indifferent. plenty of people find out they're lesbians well into adulthood & after being in relationships with men. i'd recommend talking to Lesbian Sibling about how she feels towards the people she's attracted to, and seeing whether that's how you feel toward these men! might not be foolproof, i'm not an expert of course, i'm just thinking about what could've helped me when i was figuring it out.

i don't know the specifics of your situation or who you are as a person or what your attraction feels like so i'm mostly just sharing my Lesbian Experience in hopes that it'll help you realize whether or not you could be a lesbian. you could be lesbian, you could be omni, you could be poly, you could be bi ... all of which are equally Valid And Gnarly identities!
