and are you referencing the ask about bobby being enby? because if you are, that's why we said HEADCANON, anon. you can vibe with it or not, your choice, but canon is just as written as headcanon. don't forget it's all made up.

and we were speaking from experience. non binary is something that some people might take a while to realize, if they are indeed non binary. or genderfluid. and because of our own gender identity, anon and i were speculating, i don't think there's anything wrong with that.

plus, we only said henrik and bobby... i don't know where you got eVeRy cHaRaCtEr from what we talked about.

also also, talking about bisexuality, LOTS of characters are confirmed bisexuals, pan, fluid, gay at some point. season 2 alone has its majority canonically bi.

arjun - bi, either mc or elijah;

elijah - bi, either mc or arjun;

hannah - bi, towards the end of the season, and you can run from the wedding with her. she can also be an li during cmm;

henrik. he confirms he's looking for connections and not girls specifically. that can be a bunch of things, including pan or demi. either way, under the bisexual umbrella;

lottie - bi, just like hannah;

marisol - bi or pan, depending on what mc says she likes, whether 'girls' or 'connections';

priya - bi, she comes out during cmm;

rocco, he says he would try with guys, on the first challenge, as he winks at them, so... fluid;

some people just love ignoring open flirting between boys and call it "friendship" or "jokes". when i look at two dudes openly flirting and exchanging a kiss, i'm not laughing, i'm happy for the representation. y'all are historians!

bobby - melts every time he hears noah's voice and gets all jumpy and nervous, besides complimenting it openly. exchanges a kiss on the lips with noah during the season. openly flirts with noah during cmm;

gary - he can also exchange a kiss on the lips with noah and compliments it, feeling flushed right after. he shouldn't be off the list. granted there's nothing else but i guess you're worried about canon, so i'm giving you canon;

lucas - he gets attached to henrik very early on but no other bombshells behave like that, nor girls or boys. they call each other cute names and can SNIFF THE PILLOW OF THE GUY THAT LEAVES (that goes for both);

noah - he can kiss gary or bobby during the season, compliments the kiss, and flirts with bobby during cmm;

straight, no same-sex romantic, flirty or sexual interaction whatsoever, or are canonically straight:

majority of li's, in all seasons, are bi or gay. and we have people who are non binary or genderfluid that we didn't even count in that ask...

so... sorry to break it to you (no i'm not), but your math is not mathing.

Zal, you're my favorite blogger! Following along with your OTH rewatch has made me realize how much I really do ship Brucas. I blame you for getting me re-invested in them despite knowing they're going to break my heart like a million different times. For awhile I didn't think I shipped them anymore, not because I ship Leyton or Brulian but because I honestly felt like maddeningly indecisive, pretentious, superior, annoyingly moody Lucas didn't deserve a character as special to me as Brooke is. But you've helped me realize something - Brooke makes Lucas almost bearable! ;) He's so much more joyful and open, more genuine, less pretentious and condescending etc. Meanwhile, he brings out the steadier, more cerebral and serious aspects of Brooke. In S3, she takes him out of his own head and has him following his heart, and he has her making more 'adult' decisions. I actually think they're perfect for each other. Meanwhile Peyton and Lucas are almost the same person and being together just compounds each other's most annoying tendencies. So I both love and hate (just kidding about the hate of course!) you for reminding me just how amazing an endgame ship they could and should have been if CMM weren't such a d*ck.

I sort of just realized that a Storyline I’ve never mentioned gives a Triangular perspective. It’s the granddaughter in MM. It opens up an entire universe of creative reality, which means that which extends down from higher dimensions to include some touched real as an End which then attaches in a vast series of 1-3 relations, meaning a 1-0 attachment which Ends at the center of a quadrant.

To follow this idea along, the quadrants are the grid square reduction, not absolute reality, because there is no absolute or objective reality, only actualities which act as the reals to which creative reals attach. I can only comprehend this if I think from above down. Going from below up causes problems with defining the neighborhood around a real, and then how that neighborhood connects to other neighborhoods, which may or may not reduce to real. From above, the view is that every single combination exists in every permutation and these reduce through the operation of permutation at higher dimensions until there are relatively comprehensible options.

This clears up some issues with choice: on the other side, it’s an option out of other options, meaning the options are constrained by higher, enclosing dimensions, so what appears to be a choice from this side is actually as forced as a magician’s card. That is why perspective matters.

But it is now not that ‘you need to change your perspective’, but that ‘you need to understand how your perspective forces your choices’. Anger and hate force choice.

That’s why people feel their cause will win when it won’t. They know the power of that force within themselves.

They don’t see the limits of their perspective. This came to me earlier today: one problem with the media is the idea they can be objective, as in there is an objective reality when there is only actuality and creative storyline which attaches to the actuality.

Behind these words is the idea that we’re talking about permutation groups, so neighborhood has meanings as a form of space, like vector or topological space. I feel like I’m missing a connection, one that ties these pieces together. Why? Because I type but the words are a conjugate to the accompanying thoughts, rather than a direct recital of them. What is the conjugate? It’s the other thread that connects SBE2, meaning thoughts accompany typed words so the visible and invisible processes identify the same Ends. I’m much happier when I can think in SBE terms.

But what occurred to me is how that matters in the Eternal sense. How does that work? So, the way this came to me was in Triangular, meaning there’s a facing pair - and note the CMM[C] where [C} is a backwards C is also KMM[K}. Yes, that is now 2 bracket forms: I want to show it’s just a flip within the model mechanics and the mechanics’ model. And note this also reads as KWW[K} and CWW[C}. The idea behind using K is that this includes C, meaning the larger K structure includes the Choice, Context, Constraint, etc. Mechanics and Model. Whew. That took a lot of thought.

So, picture a bT, and either of the Ends across a 1Segment you look at connects to larger structure. This then embodies the concept that we are all abstract objects attached to actualities.

I’m trying to figure out how to say this without making it sound aggressive, but this is what’s at stake. The problem I’m having is that this perspective generated because I was looking at us, and thus at you, when I mean each person.

MC X Relationships

So, I know we love to think that after they leave the villa MC and whoever she is coupled up with live happily ever after with no problems at all. Well, maybe I wanted to choose violence, who knows? Anyway, I wanted to say what problems might arise in each relationship.

Bobby X MC:

-Bobby likes to make jokes. That’s not a problem. But he might either A) take the joke too far and not know when to stop and B) not know the appropriate time to make the joke. This could cause some problems for the two, especially if his jokes offend someone close to MC.

-Bobby’s insecurities could cause some tension in the relationship. He might need a lot of reassurance and might even do things he might not be comfortable with to keep MC happy, which could lead to him having some resentment towards her (And yes, I based this off of the open relationship in CMM because the only way I can see Bobby going along with it is to make MC happy).

-He’s a friendly person, so that’s no problem. But as we see in the villa, Bobby tends to do more for his female friends (Cupcakes for Lottie, comforting Priya after ON) than MC. Once again, this isn’t a problem if your MC wouldn’t mind, but if they do, this could lead to a conversation.

Gary X MC:

-He’s a simple guy. No problem if your MC is too, but if they’re a bit more high-maintenance, this could cause a bit of conflict in lifestyles, especially once y’all move in together.

-Reassurance. Once he’s with someone, he assumes that person knows he’s 100%. But if your MC needs some reassurance (Because everyone will at one point in time), they might have to verbalize that because he might not pick up on it.

-Going off of that last part, he doesn’t pick up on hints. You need to be straightforward with him. Not a huge problem, but in a public situation where MC is trying to subtly tell him they want to leave, it could be a tiny one.

-Communication. I guess this one sums up the last two. He has trouble with communication (Lottie, Hannah, MC). When he’s annoyed by something, he leaves. He doesn’t let anyone know where his head is, which every relationship needs work with.

Noah X MC:

-Non-confrontational. We see this in the game, I don’t even need to explain this. He folds. If MC and he are having a disagreement, he’ll fold to let the problem go which does not solve it at all. It’ll only make it worse.

-He’s a huge family man. Nothing wrong if your MC is too, but he clearly loves his little siblings a lot. I can see him offering his little brother a place to stay if he needs it, but this might cause some problems between him and MC. He’d drop everything for them and this could create tension if he and MC have plans.

-He doesn’t pick up on hints. Once again, you need to be straightforward with him. He won’t be able to guess or know where your head is if you don’t make it clear.

Ibrahim X MC:

-Passive-aggressive. We see this on his route a few times. If MC is probably having a bit too much fun, being a little loud, he won’t say anything, but trust and believe, he’ll make a passive-aggressive comment.

-He likes things to be clean. He’s not a messy fellow. Good if your MC isn’t. But let’s say your MC is an….organized mess. He’ll have a problem with that.

-This is solely based on his route. He might cheat. He went from MC to Shannon to Jo and back to MC way too fast without much care for it. I think the reason why he might not be able to keep a relationship for longer than a few weeks might be because he bounces from one to the other too fast. I can definitely see this causing problems after the villa because of the heightened popularity. He and MC will be on a date or something and a fan will approach and openly flirt with him and he’ll flirt back without thinking.

Marisol X MC:

-She’s a smartass. She’s one of those people that think they’re the smartest in the room and make lowkey condescending and judgemental comments about other’s intelligence. Everyone has their dumb moments, but I can see Marisol making these comments when, for example, MC pushes a pull door.

-We see that she likes to make MC jealous during Casa Amor and, to be honest, I can see her doing that outside the villa. This can cause some problems and lead to an argument about loyalty, trust, and respect.

-She jumps to assumptions. Yes, I based this one off of her psychoanalysis habit that needs to get kicked. Instead of communicating with MC to figure out what might upset them, she’ll jump to conclusions and her actions will be based on that. And nine times out of ten, she’ll be wrong.

Lucas X MC:

-He needs to chill out sometimes. Remember that day, I think it was before the final, where MC had the option to make a funny face, run their fingers through his hair, and that other option? Every option got a frowny face. Like damn. Sometimes MC might want to have fun, but their ideas of fun will be different.

-Honestly, wholeheartedly, I cannot see him wanting to go out with MC if they don’t look “presentable”. If your MC thinks they’re going to walk out in a onesie, you’re going by yourself. If your MC is wearing a pantsuit from Fashion Nova with your makeup done and hair did, he’ll be by your side. If your MC is high-maintenance, no problem. If not, problem.

-He admits this in the villa. He’s a bit of a jealous person. If your MC is a naturally physically affectionate person, they might have to tone it down a bit for him. But I feel it might be a bit much. Like if someone gives MC a hug that goes on for too long in his eyes, he might have a problem with it. He sees a male or if your MC is bi/pan, a female person talking to them, he’ll become a bit more affectionate with them as if to stake his claim. This could bring an issue into their relationship.

Henrik X MC:

-Henrik appreciates honesty and he’s an honest person himself. Though sometimes, this can cause a problem if he’s not tactful with it. Nothing wrong with honesty, but he might accidentally hurt MC’s feelings.

-He doesn’t like movies. This is just a personal thing for me.

-Fashion sense……….not the best. Let’s be real.

Elisa X MC:

-High maintenance to another level. She wants the champagne dripping and the chandeliers blinging. Here’s the thing. It costs money to do that and if MC is money conscious, this could cause some arguments.

-Struggles with accountability. Yes, this is because of the Gossip Sneezer thing. If she feels she did nothing wrong, she’ll refuse to accept it, even when MC hits her with the facts.

-A YouTuber. Nothing against them, some YouTubers do a good job of keeping their private life and public life separate. But I get the feeling that the camera can become the third person in her and MC’s relationship, especially since it started from the villa. Instagram stories, tweets, YouTube videos, vlogs, and if MC is not comfortable with this, could lead to problems.

Yes. There are positives to the relationship. I can make a post about that. In fact, I think I will. I just wanted to do this first. Don’t hate me.

alright, let me just say a few things. one: you're doing god's work with these alter egos/moodboards for henrik, kassam and hope, besides your mc. two: what do you think carl could be? because i miss that alien boy so much, but i still can't come up with a character for him ??? and three: what else do you expect/want to see in the next few episodes? would love to hear your thoughts

First of all, let me say: AAAAAA THANK YOU SO MUCH! That means so much to me esp because I’ve been a massive fan of your posts for so long 🥺

Carl’s one I’ve been thinking about for a bit. I’d say he’s a code breaker/cryptography specialist (think Alan Turing) who’s an absolute gem to work with because if there’s cryptic/weirdly coded messages left at crime scene he’d be able to activate his almonds and figure out just what it means. Plus Carl in one of those suits 🤤 His character could be a bit withdrawn/quiet but if MC allies with him he opens up and he’s really sweet. Bby boy probably carries a thermal flask of tea with him everywhere.

As for my expectations of CMM: I’m expecting a lot of silliness and fun, which I actually don’t mind! I’m kinda (okay, very) peeved that there’s a complete lack of Henrik content and I feel like having a back to back release of CMM and then S3 means that either one or the other was rushed in order to meet demands, which is kinda concerning because which suffered from a lack of time to code/flesh out plots? The start of Season 2 up until the writers switch was incredible and is something I believe to be some of FB’s best work, meaning that CMM following up something as ambitious as S2 leaves a lot of expectations that may not be met. The new team are slowly familiarising themselves with the characterisation, so far it seems to be a bit one note where it’s split between either tactless himbo or aloof know it all but I’m hopeful that as things progress they get into the swing of things. I’m still pissed that they’re using those S3 emoji things though like how hard is it for these thotties to grasp that the emojis aren’t there for decoration, they’re there for the player and let them know whether or not a character likes something they said. You can’t just throw up a strong arm or broken heart emoji at something, shit doesn’t make sense.

If henrik doesn’t paraglide in and rail mc in the dungeon I’m gonna be pithed.

Do you think that Priya and Lucas/Henrik work out once they leave the villa? For how long do you think they stay together and how/why do you think they break up?

When you say Lucas/Henrik I assume you mean them separately as opposed to together as a couple, because the one thing I actually liked about cmm is that she sets a boundary and states she isn’t poly (how in-character it is for Priya to be not into joining an open relationship with MC and Noah/Lucas/Rahim is questionable, but I dislike when stories just by default make everyone poly and refuses to explore how the different personalities would react and engage with polyamory). But with just Lucas or Henrik, I think it depends on the boy how long it lasts, but I don’t think either would work out long-term.

With Henrik, I feel like they would still be ‘together’ outside of the villa, because Henrik earnestly likes her and wants to make it work. Whereas Chelsea has the tact and confidence to tell Henrik at the end of filming ‘hey, you’re lovely, but we can’t do long distance it’s not going to work, let’s still be friends!’ without hurting his feelings, Priya is more worried about that. Realistically Henrik probably wouldn’t be that heartbroken, but she’s not brave enough to officially break up with him post-finale.

They don’t talk for like 2 weeks after filming, and then after that Henrik will send her funny videos or check in on her via text. Priya gives him 1-2 sentence responses, and is completely over it, so their communication peters out. Like three months later Henrik texts her this massive paragraph about how he met a girl and they’re just friends but he feels attracted to her and that’s emotional cheating and he’s incredibly sorry. He apologizes for not meeting Priya’s needs and wishes he could’ve been more for her, but he’s not getting his needs met and it’s not fair to her to string her along. Priya probably rolls her eyes and just responds that it’s fine and not to feel bad, and they officially break up.

Lucas and Priya would be a bit more mangled because I feel like they have more chemistry and are both a little bit more intense personalities. To get Priya and Lucas coupled, MC has to take Noah (who then brings back Blake). So hypothetically if Lucas and Priya were coupled from before CA and then stuck together and made it until the end, I can see them developing real feelings for each other. I think Lucas would be more invested in her than she was him, but Priya also really likes the validation/attention. Also the bit of jealousy from Hope would be so gratifying for Priya. I can see Priya and Lucas being a pretty volatile couple too, like they’re super loved up when they’re competing or on dates, but Priya can be a little uncareful with the comments she makes and Lucas is pretty sensitive. They would get into a tiff and make passive aggressive comments at each other, then insist nothing is wrong and they’re not making anyone else uncomfortable. Maybe I’m just pulling this from their fake fighting in cmm, but they both could get pretty personal.

But post-villa, Lucas’ parents think Priya is beautiful and that she comported herself well (because in this timeline ON was mostly MC and Priya never messed with Felix), and Priya kind of realizes how insanely desirable Lucas is when compared to just… Normal people in the real world. The date long distance for awhile and when it eventually ends in like… 8 months tops… It’s super messy and disruptive to both of their lives.

1. first ship:

definitely bangel. i discovered what shipping meant thanks to them. i was so obsessed that my walls were covered with posters -- even my ceiling. i used to record every episode on VHS in order to watch them over and over again. they will always have a special place and since the show was open ended, i choose to believe they found each other and finally got to be happy.

2. current fave ship:

varchie. i wish i didn’t watch riverdale. i wish i loved myself enough in order to quit this awful show, but they’ve got a hold on me -- literally the only reason i’ve stuck around this long. and to think i used to make fun of them along with the show as a whole, yet here i am. exes to lovers, here we come.

3. my ship since the first minute:

clana, hands down. i remember recording the first two episodes while i was out and when i came home, i gave smallville a try. after all, i loved the show lois and clark, so why not? i didn’t have high expectations, but they got me as soon as i saw them together on my screen. never looked back after that. sadly, they were most of the time mistreated (especially lana) and they didn’t have the ending they deserved. but they’re still at the very top of my list.

4. i wish they had been endgame:

all of them??? but for this one i’m gonna say brucas. if only cmm had been a faithful husband. their storyline wouldn’t have been wrapped up this way. i firmly believe they had all the reasons to find their way back to one another. and their interactions in season 5 was all the proof needed. i’ll just have to make up my own endgame scenario for them, but we were robbed for sure.

5. i wish they had been canon:

i had to really think about this one. but then it hit me. harry and hermione. i only read the first book when i was young, so my knowledge of them is non-existent. i know that the relationships are very different in the books, but as someone who has been watching the movies for years... the chemistry and the amount of time spent on harry and hermione could only lead me to ship them. they deserved to be canon in the movies and i’ll never change my mind.

6. most of the fandom hates, but i love:

karamel. but most of the fandom is filled with haters so that doesn’t say much. anyway, i didn’t watch supergirl for long, but these two were downright adorable. they literally bullied chris out of the show, but i’m thankful for the playful, cute and angsty moments they were able to deliver nonetheless. and the actors are not only married, but parents now. still a win, i guess?

7. don’t watch the show but i ship them anyway:

this was a hard one. and even though i watched a bit of teen wolf, i decided to include them because i literally didn’t watch their arc or any season past the second. so, this still counts. scalia were looking really good from the little i saw and that was more than enough in my book.

8. i wish they had a different storyline:

i put fuinn in the ‘fandom hates’ category at first, but then realized they were better in this one. the fandom still hated them and it didn’t stop me from loving everything we were able to get in the first two seasons. though, i obviously wish their storyline had been different. that might have helped a lot.

9. a background ship that i wasn’t supposed to ship, but i do:

i wouldn’t really call them a background ship. but wrencer i’m guessing wasn’t supposed to be something people were going to root for. after all, when ships are mentioned when it comes to spencer, wren is rarely mentioned. but i loved the small amount of scenes they had. barely watched pll, but you can be sure my ass downloaded the episodes when he appeared just for them.

10. my notp:

can’t really choose one, and they don’t deserve a gif especially not on my blog. but for sure sp*ffy, lex*na and d*lena. there’s a lot of ships i can’t stand (hello b*rchie), but those three have at some point been toxic and/or abusive. so they get to be at the top of the list.

shoutout however to the ships that didn’t make the list because i could only choose one per category and yet have a very special place too.

Lily pad eyes (2018)

Warm sunlight struck my bare chest as soon as I got rid of my shirt. I struggled with the stringy straps, getting caught around my neck some. But I had never been outside topless before, outside at least. other than as a kid. I guess it felt the same as being clothed, just without the way bodies carry garments. as if it is heavy. I did not think a shirt could be so heavy until I took it off.

Our bikes were deserted in the corner of my eye as I kicked off my sneakers. And slid off my pants. We dropped them there as soon as we found the clearing. The bikes were natural there, undertaken to become part of the grass and brush and weeds that draped over the wheels. I swore enough time had passed to rust the gears, overgrow them.

I undressed too fast. Rev was just getting to his belt.

I turned to the right and squinted into the sun. Spots of light buzzed around all the corners of my eyesight until everything was so, so white that I was okay with going blind.

“You’ll go blind,” Rev said. I looked over my shoulder at him, glaring. “You know, if you look at the sun too long.” I rolled my eyes. He shrugged his shoulders and removed his pants.

“Wow,” I said. Rev stood all casual, all serious in Iron Man boxers. The super-suit’s chest piece was printed right over where his dick was. Suddenly, I felt that giggle worm out of my body, one of those stomachy laughs that run loose in my body. “Wow! wow. I don’t even know what to say about that, I—”

“Please, just,” Rev giggled, “do me the favor of not saying anything.” So I didn’t. For a long time. It wasn’t like he made me mad or there wasn’t anything to say; there was plenty to talk about. The nature just said everything for us.

There was something godly about the world around me that I couldn’t put my finger on it. Maybe it was the fact that it was godly. But it’s impossible to put my finger on god, to touch god. Leaves blockaded any of the sky building a dome around us, resting on our heads like a tiara. The tree limbs grew farther above in real time, and everything was sparkly from the rain that morning. The saturated greenery was beautiful to a point of overwhelming. Underneath my bare feet, the ground pushed back at my soles to help me walk.

Rev motioned me towards the water with his chin in the way guys do. I turned to face the water. The tall marsh grass lining the baby pond was just so green that I nearly cried. Each blade was so individual and separated, that when they rippled in the breeze I kept thinking they were alive. And the water was asleep, black and motionless. It looked as though it would open its mouth and eat me whole.

The grass pushed me forward, and I closed the gap between me and the pond. Trying to tip-toe over the marsh, I toppled over on the slippery bottom. I hit the water without realizing, already a bit above ankle deep. cmm,mvdvvvvvvvdouaeroigjaI! Bottom of the pond was marsh-grassy or a basket or nest of sorts. I was an egg.

But it wasn’t deep at all, so I sat up as fast as I had hit the water. It was a baptism.

“You good, Joe?” Rev asked as he offered his hand. I laughed it off. “How deep?”

I stood up with my arms reaching out, the water reaching right above my waist. “Like, four feet,” I replied. He stepped right through the grass and winced when his foot touched the bottom. Water trickled from the tips of my hair onto my shoulders in inky, black orbs.

“It’s so much warmer than I thought it’d be,” Rev said. I hummed in response; we were doing that thing where we weren’t looking at each other in the face, because we were half naked.

“I just wanted to let you know that, like, I don’t like you in a crush way,” I blurted out. It was stupid to even think to say that. The embarrassment made me cold.

He laughed, “yeah, I know. And I don’t like you in general.”

“Ha, ha. Smart-ass.”

We finally made eye contact. Thank god.

Something swam over my feet.

“What the fuck?!” I screamed, jumping back. My feet landed on a fleshy mass. It jerked underneath my weight until it threw me off balance and I stumbled onto the grassy shore. Black ripples tore across the surface like waves, even for such a small struggle. Rev made his way to me through the water walking on tight rope along the edge.

“What the hell was that?” he asked, wading through the lily pads.

“Probably just a fish, but it was, like, huge.”

We stared out at the cloudy water as if it was far away. Every drop of water that ran down my body felt like hot sweat compared to the late-year air, and Rev sat down in the shallow, his legs outstretched and diving into the cloudy deep. Tadpoles bit at his toes.

Rev’s leg twitched. “Fuckin’ fish touched me, too, Joe!”

“I think it’s swarmed with those nasties.”

“Wanna get out of here?”

“Not really. I don’t know why I freaked out so much,” I laughed.

“Okay.” He laid out onto the muddy grass. “I’m glowing like a vampire,” he said. Droplets of water that laid on his pale chest made him slimmer, and some drops veered and slid off his stomach when he breathed in. One of the fish made a splash on the other side of the pond. We watched as another splash was made, this time closer to the middle. And then another, a few feet away from Rev’s toes.

“Wanna go smoke?” I asked him.

“God, of course.” Reaching out his arms, I pulled him up to his feet.

“I’ll get my bag,” I mumbled, and we danced to the bikes and grabbed my mini backpack. I pulled my shirt back over my head. it stuck to patches of wet skin. Rev laid on the grass, lounging on his side, and I slid down a weak tree that had all its bark rubbed off. maybe from kids before me who slumped against it.

And suddenly, from the middle of the pond, the water erupted as if a man had cannonballed into it just as I lit the lighter. Waves trampled the marsh grass and even almost reached us. We were at the ocean.

“Big fish?” Rev asked, staring at the water behind him. I grimaced and lit up again.

“Big deal,” I responded tightly, a joint wedged between my lips. It was a big deal. The pond terrorized me. or its contents did. The bare tree rubbed against my back and felt slick from nervous sweat. But nothing else was said about it, and Rev and I spiraled smoke up to the crown of leaves where it dissipated.

We lounged sprawled out under the summer sun until the pond suddenly seemed alluring again. Our bodies were layered in sweat like it was a sweater. I didn’t bother undressing this time before we wandered over, wading into it less cautiously than earlier. After diving underneath to soak myself, I floated on top of the inky surface. Ears under the surface, everything sounded muffled. like I was underground. I closed my eyes and imagined sinking but in a good way.

I lurched out of the water, something wrapping around my entire ankle. Underwater I tried to shake it off, but when I realized that was useless, I battled to pull it out of the water. It was a hand, Rev’s hand, knuckles red and skin white shooting out of the black, all I could see of him.

“REV!” I screamed, taking a hold of his wrist to haul him out of the water.

He responded by grasping me back, but I never saw further than his elbow before whatever was tugging him pulled me in, too. I shot under into the black headfirst, entangling in fish and marsh grass and what I stepped on earlier in the pond. the same thick, warm body.

I hated the slickness of the giant fish or snake or man, the way it encircled our bodies. wound tighter. And so I hated when I wormed one arm above my head and then bit down on the monster. Its skin fell straight off like cooked meat into my mouth and mixed with the cloudy water I began choking. The thing vibrated and unraveled for just enough time to hoist myself and Rev’s limp body out of its constrict.

I began running through the water, tripping over this monster’s legs or tail or whatever it was made of, the water tugged back at me and seemed to deepen the closer I got to shore. The bright forest that I had awed at before melted into overwhelming blotches of color, and the marsh grass become more of a barrier than a gateway to get out. The monster seized my legs and I fell forward, striking my head on the shore. knocked the wind out of me for a second. But I grabbed the marsh grass to drag myself further onto land.

A shadow grew from the pond and kept growing and growing until the trees near our bikes were hiding behind the monster. I momentarily released the grass to push Rev fully out of the water, and the monster quickly flipped me over and slowly encircled me once again. I finally saw its face, as black as the water and slathered in a layer of what resembled almost an embryo. It had no limbs like a snake and the snout of an alligator, but three large breasts lined vertically on its chest. As it lowered me under the surface, I stared directly into its lily pad eyes, with lilies as pupils. but I think maybe that only covered his real eyes. I didn’t want to see those. And then I saw nothing, dipped into the ink like a fountain pen. I wondered what it would write with me.

until I envisioned Rev marooned on the shore, out of breath and dead.

I woke up a little later I guess. I sat up and rested on my elbows on the shore of a clear pond with a grassy bottom. It was cold like mountain water, and I was getting sunburnt.

A loud smell made me turn my head, and I saw Rev with a red, soggy, puffy face behind a facade of smoke. He coughed and cried simultaneously. I got on my knees and shuffled over, leaned back on the barkless tree and Rev’s shoulder. He passed his joint.

“Never going fishing there,” he said. I laughed once and then pulled my shirt over my head. My stomach bulged over my panty line and my breasts laid flat and sagged on my chest. But it was comfy to not be dead. Imagine the cramp from sleeping on your back so long.

I kept dozing off in the lowering sun, but the time and our physical conditions pointed to heading home. So I stood up expecting Rev to follow (he did), and we pulled ourselves onto our bikes and rode home. The trip seemed to take forever, but the sun had only just set once we got to Rev’s little house on the outskirts of town.

“Can I bum a cig?” I asked him as he jumped off his bike.

“Sure thang.” He reached into his shirt pocket and opened the box. There was one left. “Dude, I can’t believe we went through this whole pack today. This? was full when we left class.”

I laughed too hard and then plucked the last cigarette like a flower. When I lit it, the orange warmth of the flame echoed into the now darkness.

ohhhhhhhhhh this scene! i'm glad i could help! being sweet to priya is really the only thing i ever do so i was used to this one in every playthrough lol

there were only a couple of times i was mean, just to get the scene where one of the girls tells us she and the chosen guy are getting on in the bedroom... still stings but it's great for the drama!

and you're not alone, i think fusebox made a huge mistake by not making priya available when they could! it would've been so much better to have her as an LI during the season and not having those brief moments in cmm.

i think hannah and lottie also had so much potential, especially given they're connected to the same guy :/ it would've been interesting, to say the least!

if we had a few moments where lottie wants to fight us but hesitates a few times, then storms off, or mc catching the girls looking at her from a distance just so they would brush it off quickly, maybe during challenges, it would've been a different level of angst and actually justify that sneaky kiss we had with both of them.

but choosing marisol as the only girl to have a slowburn was a huge mistake! we should've had clues about lottie's or hannah's feelings towards us since the beginning. making marisol the open book and the other two a little reserved because they don't understand their feelings is honestly what i expected fof them. too bad they wasted them.

Once your drive is prepared with your bootable version of OS X, erase the unwanted version. After you restart your computer, press and hold Command + R. When you enter the macOS Utilities screen, navigate to Disk Utility, click continue, and find your Startup Disk. Tab to the Erase page and name the file you want erased (e.g. macOS High Sierra). Then select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) from the dropdown menu. Hit Erase and quit out of Disk Utility. This will return you to the OS X Utilities selector.

Install the bootable version of OS X

If you used Disk Drill for creating your bootable drive, a window will prompt your actions for using the install disk you made. But if you created your own using Terminal, use OS X Utilities Selector and find Reinstall OS X. Find and select your install disk with your bootable version of your preferred macOS, and click continue through to the license agreement. Once you agree, you should be prompted by the installer. Once the installation is completed, your computer should restart. If it does not restart itself, make sure you restart it normally. The downgrade should be complete!

As you can see, downgrading your OS X is not as dreadful as you might think, especially if you use helper apps like CleanMyMac, Get Backup Pro, and Disk Drill — all of which are available for a free trial on Setapp. So downgrade away!

Install Xcode and the Xcode Command Line Tools

Agree to Xcode license in Terminal: sudo xcodebuild -license

Install MacPorts for your version of the Mac operating system:

Installing MacPorts

MacPorts version 2.6.4 is available in various formats for download and installation (note, if you are upgrading to a new major release of macOS, see the migration info page):

“pkg” installers for Big Sur, Catalina, Mojave, and High Sierra, for use with the macOS Installer. This is the simplest installation procedure that most users should follow after meeting the requirements listed below. Installers for legacy platforms Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard, Leopard and Tiger are also available.

In source form as either a tar.bz2 package or a tar.gz one for manual compilation, if you intend to customize your installation in any way.

Git clone of the unpackaged sources, if you wish to follow MacPorts development.

The selfupdate target of the port(1) command, for users who already have MacPorts installed and wish to upgrade to a newer release.

Checksums for our packaged downloads are contained in the corresponding checksums file.

The public key to verify the detached GPG signatures can be found under the attachments section on jmr's wiki page. (Direct Link).

Please note that in order to install and run MacPorts on macOS, your system must have installations of the following components:

Apple's Xcode Developer Tools (version 12.2 or later for Big Sur, 11.3 or later for Catalina, 10.0 or later for Mojave, 9.0 or later for High Sierra, 8.0 or later for Sierra, 7.0 or later for El Capitan, 6.1 or later for Yosemite, 5.0.1 or later for Mavericks, 4.4 or later for Mountain Lion, 4.1 or later for Lion, 3.2 or later for Snow Leopard, or 3.1 or later for Leopard), found at the Apple Developer site, on your Mac operating system installation CDs/DVD, or in the Mac App Store. Using the latest available version that will run on your OS is highly recommended, except for Snow Leopard where the last free version, 3.2.6, is recommended.

Apple's Command Line Developer Tools can be installed on recent OS versions by running this command in the Terminal:

Older versions are found at the Apple Developer site, or they can be installed from within Xcode back to version 4. Users of Xcode 3 or earlier can install them by ensuring that the appropriate option(s) are selected at the time of Xcode's install ('UNIX Development', 'System Tools', 'Command Line Tools', or 'Command Line Support').

Xcode 4 and later users need to first accept the Xcode EULA by either launching Xcode or running:

(Optional) The X11 windowing environment for ports that depend on the functionality it provides to run. You have multiple choices for an X11 server:

Install the xorg-server port from MacPorts (recommended).

The XQuartz Project provides a complete X11 release for macOS including server and client libraries and applications. It has however not been updated since 2016.

Apple's X11.app is provided by the “X11 User” package on older OS versions. It is always installed on Lion, and is an optional installation on your system CDs/DVD with previous OS versions.

macOS Package (.pkg) Installer

The easiest way to install MacPorts on a Mac is by downloading the pkg or dmg for Big Sur, Catalina, Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard, Leopard or Tiger and running the system's Installer by double-clicking on the pkg contained therein, following the on-screen instructions until completion.

This procedure will place a fully-functional and default MacPorts installation on your host system, ready for usage. If needed your shell configuration files will be adapted by the installer to include the necessary settings to run MacPorts and the programs it installs, but you may need to open a new shell for these changes to take effect.

The MacPorts “selfupdate” command will also be run for you by the installer to ensure you have our latest available release and the latest revisions to the “Portfiles” that contain the instructions employed in the building and installation of ports. After installation is done, it is recommended that you run this step manually on a regular basis to to keep your MacPorts system always current:

At this point you should be ready to enjoy MacPorts!

Type “man port” at the command line prompt and/or browse over to our Guide to find out more information about using MacPorts. Help is also available.

Source Installation

If on the other hand you decide to install MacPorts from source, there are still a couple of things you will need to do after downloading the tarball before you can start installing ports, namely compiling and installing MacPorts itself:

“cd” into the directory where you downloaded the package and run “tar xjvf MacPorts-2.6.4.tar.bz2” or “tar xzvf MacPorts-2.6.4.tar.gz”, depending on whether you downloaded the bz2 tarball or the gz one, respectively.

Build and install the recently unpacked sources:

cd MacPorts-2.6.4

./configure && make && sudo make install

Optionally:

cd ../

rm -rf MacPorts-2.6.4*

These steps need to be perfomed from an administrator account, for which “sudo” will ask the password upon installation. This procedure will install a pristine MacPorts system and, if the optional steps are taken, remove the as of now unnecessary MacPorts-2.6.4 source directory and corresponding tarball.

To customize your installation you should read the output of “./configure --help | more” and pass the appropriate options for the settings you wish to tweak to the configuration script in the steps detailed above.

You will need to manually adapt your shell's environment to work with MacPorts and your chosen installation prefix (the value passed to configure's --prefix flag, defaulting to /opt/local):

Add $(prefix)/bin and $(prefix)/sbin to the start of your PATH environment variable so that MacPorts-installed programs take precedence over system-provided programs of the same name.

If a standard MANPATH environment variable already exists (that is, one that doesn't contain any empty components), add the $(prefix)/share/man path to it so that MacPorts-installed man pages are found by your shell.

For Tiger and earlier only, add an appropriate X11 DISPLAY environment variable to run X11-dependent programs, as Leopard takes care of this requirement on its own.

Lastly, you need to synchronize your installation with the MacPorts rsync server:

Upon completion MacPorts will be ready to install ports!

It is recommended to run the above command on a regular basis to keep your installation current. Type “man port” at the command line prompt and/or browse over to our Guide to find out more information about using MacPorts. Help is also available.

Git Sources

If you are developer or a user with a taste for the bleeding edge and wish for the latest changes and feature additions, you may acquire the MacPorts sources through git. See the Guide section on installing from git.

Selfupdate

If you already have MacPorts installed and have no restrictions to use the rsync networking protocol (tcp port 873 by default), the easiest way to upgrade to our latest available release, 2.6.4, is by using the selfupdate target of the port(1) command. This will both update your ports tree (by performing a sync operation) and rebuild your current installation if it's outdated, preserving your customizations, if any.

Other Platforms

Running on platforms other than macOS is not the main focus of The MacPorts Project, so remaining cross-platform is not an actively-pursued development goal. Nevertheless, it is not an actively-discouraged goal either and as a result some experimental support does exist for other POSIX-compliant platforms such as *BSD and GNU/Linux.

The full list of requirements to run MacPorts on these other platforms is as follows (we assume you have the basics such as GCC and X11):

Tcl (8.4 or 8.5), with threads.

mtree for directory hierarchy.

rsync for syncing the ports.

cURL for downloading distfiles.

SQLite for the port registry.

GNUstep (Base), for Foundation (optional, can be disabled via configure args).

OpenSSL for signature verification, and optionally for checksums. libmd may be used instead for checksums.

push vs pull

the other day i became angry at a webpage that popped up a non-dismissable modal. ordinarily when this happens i shrug and pop open devtools and move on my way (i also did that), but my rage stemmed from the fact that the modal was preventing me from viewing my own profile data. as the morning wore on, i stopped to reflect about why it angered me and what it meant (if anything).

First, I want to address a point before it comes up: many appeals against dark patterns are emotional (as the patterns themselves evoke strong reactions from people tricked by them). I want to suggest that if you are a numbers oriented person, needlessly wasting your user's time is a failure of product even if doing so suggests increased engagement. The rest of this post is about repurposing the terms "pull" and "push" to describe who is prioritized in an interaction. If you want an emotional appeal against dark patterns, consider that you are robbing your users of their agency.

Secondly, i want to make clear that i get that everybody has their reasons. I'm writing this because the whole field of user-centered design stresses elevating the needs of your users but the legitimate realities of "doing business on the internet" are often at odds with users spending less time with your product.

Principle 3

Use "pull" systems to avoid overproduction.

Here this means that a participant in a production system should request (pull) as much as it needs rather than reacting to a stream of supply pushed to it. One of the benefits of stressing "pull" over "push" is that it prioritizes the person doing the pulling over the system that is being pulled from (often commodities).

you can think of this like the distinction between "can you work on this right now" vs "when you finish up this project, just pick up one of the ones labeled ~~~~." if somebody is saying that to you, the second phrase lets you add new tasks to a pipeline whereas the first disrupts your existing task.

Principle 8

Use only reliable, thoroughly tested technology that serves your people and processes.

Technology is pulled by manufacturing, not pushed to manufacturing.

anyone that has ever used enterprise software can sympathize with this: you were doing your job and then somebody with an expense card–not you–decided to make everyone use ENTERPRISE PRODUCT for SOME TASK and so now you need to both use it and integrate into your existing workflow even though the prior workflow may have had no apparent drawbacks (i get that new products are often purchased to remedy disparate ad-hoc and chaotic workflows).

the flipside to this is a team that asks for money to use some service/product/software/whatever because it knows it to be a useful benefit. for instance, when a team asks to use figma or babel-js or slack, they are pulling that technology because they envision that it will help them—they don't need to be sold on it, they want it.

who moved my cheese?

when people design features that impose upon their users it's easy to see some design that was pushed. a parallel of this is designing software with a breaking api change, that pushes a new way of working onto the library's conumers. Perhaps it was possible to do something before, but for whatever reason that same outcome requires some new or different step, that Improved Feature™ will no longer feel like a feature, but instead like a regression or an annoyance.

you can think of word processors as additive in that their feature-set is largely pull-oriented. from the outset, you can begin with plain text, or progressively add formatting, or add footnotes, update margins, etc. Few of these additional changes break the original act of writing, they instead expand the choices possible. If you've never used a pivot table in excel it doesn't matter because you can still use excel to do your regular spreadsheet work but the pivot tables are there for you if you ever need them.

in his 2016 clojure conj keynote, rich hickey describes this variety of additive behavior as a sort of accretion of a library's featureset or a relaxation in its behavior (in opposition to the more standard behavior of requiring more or providing less which causes breakage). When you change or break of a library or product, even by just replacing the behavior of a prior functionality with a new one, you are imposing upon your consumers a new approach to working rather than allowing them to decide if a new approach would benefit them. You are pushing technology to your customers rather than allowing them pull it from you.

and for products, the reasons for embracing push-like behavior are many: if a user needs to accept a new license agreement, you may need a push-mechanism in order to gate further use of the product. if your business is crumbling, you may start relying on push behaviors to manufacture engagement, to collect data, or to rate-limit freeloaders (looking at you, tumblr and gsuite). if you are in something of a commoditized space, you may push proprietary data structures, hardware, or non-standardized technology in order to manufacture lock-in. Or perhaps it's just a financial choice for your team: it's more expensive to maintain two things than one. It's easier for you to make this change because it saves you time at the expense of your customers who are required to adapt to it.

as a service provider pull-oriented mechanics are not exactly compelling in a business case: they have the capacity to incur very uncertain costs for you and they always expand your scope of maintenace. Instead of maintaining some plateau of features, you are always caring for more things, responsible for an increasingly larger surface area, responsible for backwards compatibility.

worse, pull-oriented services that accrete features require you to make a compelling case for any new feature set that is merely a repackaging of existing behavior. It is more difficult to advocate for a hobbled feature when a more capable progenitor sticks around.

dark patterns

dark patterns in web design exist in this fascinating middle-ground because they don't often block user-actions, instead, they take advantage of traditional user-flow mechanisms to misrepresent the meaning of a button or checkbox. they use your desire to perform one action to engage you in a separate one. they are reviled because they collect data during vulnerable moments or hobble freeloading engagement, trading your ability to see another page of content for your more valuable email address or phone number.

dark patterns that slow or limit functionality simply need to create enough curiosity to engage with the initial gate or desire to fulfil the final outcome. or, they rely on an extrinsic force to motivate the user along the final steps of an 'engagement chute'—just accept the eula.

But even dark patterns can be push vs pull: offering a discount is different than limiting site functionality. Forcing a user to scroll through pages of license agreement is onerous, or they could email you the eula and mark the accept button as not disabled. dark patterns rely on the unintended consequences of a common action to motivate some non-obvious opt-in. users hate push-based dark patterns (which, see anyone trying to cancel their nyt subscription or trying to browse pinterest or twitter loged out) but feel remarkable delight at receiving a eula in their email to read later while they accept its terms right now.

what people dislike about enterprise software is not that the software is necessarily bad (say what you will about git but people choose to use it)—the disconnect between the choice of using the software and the employer-driven mandate of compliance, having software pushed onto you is the defining quality in enterprise malaise. Add to that an application that pushes capricious choices to its users and you have a recipe for disaster.

people talk a lot about "pushing some new changes out" to customers and it's almost always framed as a positive, but i think it's worth considering whether or not user-centered design should instead strive to create compelling new toolsets that their customers want to pull from. this is a harder product challenge for many teams because it requires creating an alternative that can stand on its own alongside a product that has an established track record. It's hard to convince somebody to give you more time/information/attention to keep doing what they were doing already, but not making that case and forcing a poor interaction is arguably worse.

additive changes aren't controversial either, they are often deployed without affecting the core experience of the product. a new option does not need to affect existing behavior if it provides a more robust tool for users pull from, but it is worth being honest about why we introduce disruptive changes when they have real impacts on the people who use applications.

in a world of a/b testing and metrics-aided design, it seems controversial to assert that users don't want to be experimented on but designers delight in aesthetic redesigns, color palette rethinks, and talk at length of tweaking their user-base's habits. experiments like these create new forms of interaction that are pushed to users who often desire the stability of a technology they previously pulled from.

alpha/beta programs appear to provide some relief, instead they give users a chance to trade workflow stability for a peek at tomorrow's feature-set or giving them a chance to educate themselves about the reality of their future workflow. but despite best intentions, the presumption remains that end-users are the onse that need to adapt. in the craze for ui and preference-pane kon-mari, we throw our users's precious time by the wayside to satisfy our aesthetic demands each time we remove something we dislike or introduce a breaking change we frame as an "improved workflow".

more importantly, every non-additive change that is pushed to a user will always be an imposition. the more disappointing trend is that so many design-driven industries claim 'empathy' alongside 'user-focused design' as their core values but remain resistant or hostile to developing options that their users can choose to pull from, often at the unstated expense of their customer's time, attention, or goodwill.

Ultimate Guide on How to Start Our Event Planning

There’s no time like the present to start your event planning business. But before you get your first customer, you need to do some prep work. Maybe it started in high school, when you planned out the snacks, the agenda, and everyone’s roles for study sessions. Maybe it started in college, when you organized open mic nights at a local bar. All you know is you’ve got the itch: You want to start an event planning business.

But how do you go from just thinking about it to actually running a business?

There are six major steps that you need to take to start your business. We’ll take you through each one so that by the time you’re done reading this, you’ll be better prepared to open up shop.

6 steps to starting your business

1. Establish your expertise

If you want people to trust you with their events, you need to demonstrate you know what you’re doing.

Outside of an undergraduate degree in hospitality, you can enroll in various certification programs that will help bulk up your expertise and let your clients know they’re in knowledgeable hands.

There are so many types of certifications, however, that it can be difficult to know the best to get. Below, we’ll take a look at three general (i.e. not specialized) certifications you can obtain.

There are, of course, plenty of other certifications you can obtain and courses you can take that are much more event-type specific. You can also see if your local college or university offers any courses or certificates that might help you get started.

Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Certification

The CMP is established by the Convention Industry Council, and the exam covers planning, site management, event design, marketing, and international standards.

The Council’s website offers suggested reading and preparatory materials and the exam is offered every few months. For 2020, the announced test dates are in January, May, and August.

A CMP holder earns about 10,00,000 more annually than their uncertified counterparts, according to the Events Council.

If there’s even the slightest chance you’re considering working as a healthcare event professional, they also offer a CMP for that function specifically.

Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) Certification

This exam, administered four times a year, can be taken remotely. Similar to the CMP, it was established by a group of professionals (this time, the International Live Events Association).

With your certification you also get industry newsletters and a structured network that can help you build out your resources, get advice, and find mentors to help your business grow. However, there is an expertise requirement (three years in the event planning industry) before you can take it.

Certificate in Meeting Management (CMM)

Rather than simply taking an exam to test your knowledge, the CMM is an entire training program. It takes approximately 15 weeks and is more academic than practical in its approach.

The downside is that you’ll have to travel to Indiana, so if you’re not from the area it might take a little more budget than you have readily available to get this certification.

However, people with a CMM make about 30,000,000 per year more than those without it (and 20,000,000 per year more than those with the CMP certification).

2. Build an effective business plan

A business plan essentially establishes what your business goals and strategies will be moving forward.

Having a business plan doesn’t just help you organize and road map the success of your business. It can also be a powerful tool to present to the outside world, such as potential investors who are curious about your strategy.

Your plan should include the following:

An executive summary—why is your company different from all other companies?

The company overview—this is what the company will look like.

An industry analysis—our niche of the event industry looks like.

Customer analysis—our customers will look like this.

A breakdown of your key competitors—this is what we’re up against.

Your plans for marketing, operations, management, and finances—this is how we’ll make our money.

An appendix of all your supporting documents—leases, contracts, trademarks, resumes, marketing materials, etc.

Within your company overview, you need to firmly establish what type of events you’re planning to focus on. You don’t need to stick with that event type forever, but it’s important to start with a single effort. You can dedicate the full extent of your resources and expertise towards that goal, and then slowly build out from there.

Focusing on a single type of event will also give you a much clearer idea of who your customers will be. This can help in several sections of your business plan.

3. Secure startup capital

It only takes about 2,00,000 to 5,00,000 to get your business off the ground. Beyond that, there will be recurring costs that you need to factor in to your budget, since you won’t be profitable right away.

There are a few ways you can secure that money:

Self-finance

Banks (i.e. lines of credit, small-business loans, or 401(k) business financing)

Friends and family

If you can’t self finance, don’t worry—your business plan is here to help.

Whether you’re incorporating it into a presentation to a bank, or using a crowdfunding platform such as AngelList, CrowdFunder, or Fundable, your business plan will demonstrate exactly where your investors’ money is going, and how you plan to get it back to them.

4. Invest in the software you need to effectively run your business

There’s an overwhelming number of software types you can use for your business. Some of them you’ll find helpful right away, and some of them you’ll find helpful further down the line.

Here’s a list of core software types and why you might want to invest in them:

To help manage projects, tasks, and workflow: event management or project management software.

To help interact with your present and future customers: customer relationship management, lead management, email marketing, social media marketing, marketing automation software.

To help keep your information secure: email security, cloud security, network security, and/or SIEM software.

To keep your office running smoothly: budgeting, billing & invoicing, and collaboration software.

To improve attendee experience at your events: conference (be sure to get one with registration capabilities), venue management, and mobile event apps.

You may be able to find some free options (like in this article on free and open source event management software). Just make sure you check the user reviews of your potential purchase to make sure it won’t be more trouble than it’s worth. 5. Figure out what you need to legally operate your event planning business

Putting in the effort now to make sure that your event planning business is above board and protected means a lot less paperwork (and a lot less in terms of potential legal fees) later down the line.

The first big step is registering your business with state and federal governments. The IRS offers handy advice for exactly how to do that.

You’ll also need to figure out which licenses and permits you need. Many of these will depend on the type of event planning you intend to do, but Brand Name USA has a good guide to get you started.

Finally, you have to make sure that you’re covered in case of any accidents—to you, your business, or your employees. You’ll need to secure a worker’s comp policy, as well as a variety of different types of insurance.

6. Establish a marketing campaign and build out your network

For your business to truly succeed, you need clients and partners.

Marketing your business to clients

You know exactly who your target clients are, thanks to the research that went into your business plan. It’s time to reach out to those potential clients. Use any channel you have at your disposal—email marketing campaigns, cold calls to businesses, or social media, for example.

Make sure that you focus on channels that are highly impactful for your target audience. You can do this by testing out to a wide group of channels and seeing which gets the most engagement from your network. You can also employ social media segmentation which can help streamline this process a bit.

For example, if you want to plan pop-up food experiences, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are great channels. If you want to plan software showcases, LinkedIn and email marketing might be a better play.

Make the most impactful marketing strategy possible, and you’ll grab those leads in no time.

Marketing your business to potential partners

You need to build out your network of vendors, venues, and other industry experts whose services you might require.

You’ve already established what type of event you want to focus your business on. Think of every facet of a possible event. Go through our guide on how to plan an event. Look at the list of vendors there, and find local vendors that cater to each of those categories. Whether it’s catering or security or A/V equipment, you’ll need to know who you can turn to for events.

Reach out to them and establish a connection so that when you have an event and need their services, you have an extant relationship you can work from.
