I think you perpetually online people need to understand that “queerbaiting” does not mean a character is heavily implied to be a queer person, with a live in partner, but we the audience are not explicitly shown a coming out scene. Queerbaiting is when a character is heavily implied to be a queer person and then it’s explicit confirmed they’re Absolutely Not Queer(tm) and are in a Straight Relationship(tm) and that live in partner they have romantic chemistry with is just their Friendly Roommate(tm). Not everything needs to be shown to you explicitly for you to understand the implications. Having to use critical thinking skills to draw connections between clearly defined and obviously presented dots isn’t queer baiting. For the love of god use your brain cells before they all die and leave your head about as full as an empty peanut shell.

The thing about media is you can give me a funky little guy who is CLEARLY queer-coded and solves little mysteries and most importantly also clearly cares helping people and the victims and making the world better with every mystery he solves
And I will eat that shit up every time

I just thought of another thing in the shower about how easy it was for miles to kill duke and how it further shows how little he care for anyone other than himself. (And Kinda shows how all his friends are self centered) and im not even talking about the emotional or mental toll it takes to kill a person.
Miles never originally planned on killing duke. At least not at the party. But when duke forced his hand all it took was for mile to poor some pineapple juice in his drink.
A Pineapple allergy which is apparently so severe a drop is enough to kill him
An allergy that miles was fully aware of but had no issue about still having pineapple juice with all the drinks, making it so so easily for cross contamination to happen. (Honestly up until the reveal i thought thats what happened, that his death was just a coincidence. A byproduct of miles apathy about his “friends” well being)
Dukes murder was just miles lucking out on his carelessness about having the perfect murder weapon on hand.
Side note: I could be wrong on this but its worth noting that the only person besides miles that seems aware of this allergy was his gf despite them all being friends for years

If You Like Benoit Blanc...
Ever since Glass Onion came out, it seems like everyone’s obsessed with Benoit Blanc and these types of mysteries! Which is great; as someone who loves them, I’m thrilled to have more people interested in the genre. So, if you’re looking for more murder mystery stuff, might I offer some recommendations?
Hercule Poirot
Tumblr media
Agatha Christie’s delightful Belgian detective might be the most similar to Blanc of any of the big detectives out there. And with countless novels, short stories, the tv show, and the recent movies, there’s plenty of Poirot content out there for you to enjoy! I personally recommend buying a collection of the short stories and starting from there, but really, there’s no wrong way to get into one of the world’s most famous detectives!
(Note: Agatha Christie was a wealthy British woman who began being published in the 1920′s, and this shows in some of her stories. Most of what I’ve read I’d construe as not meaning badly but definitely of the times, but it’s worth noting!)
Columbo
Tumblr media
If you like the parts of Glass Onion where Blanc plays up the old fashioned, Southern charm and acts like a simpleton, Columbo is the detective for you. The whole conceit of this show is that we actually know whodunnit and the question is how is Columbo going to figure it out. Usually the answer is looking shabby, rambling, talking about his wife, and trapping people in their own lies. It’s incredibly satisfying to watch, and Columbo himself is very memeable.
Murder, She Wrote
Tumblr media
The late, great Dame Angela Lansbury and her hit show Murder, She Wrote have actually been referenced in both Knives Out movies and it’s no wonder why. Jessica Fletcher is an acclaimed murder mystery author who uses her keen observation skills, knowledge from researching her books, and grandmotherly demeanor to solve murder mysteries. It’s a delightful show filled with tons of guest stars you’re bound to recognize, and J.B. Fletcher really is one of the great fictional detectives.
Pushing Daisies
Tumblr media
Okay, admittedly I’m mostly including this one because I think everyone should watch Pushing Daisies at some point. It’s part murder mystery, part romcom, part musical, part absurdist comedy with an absolutely enchanting style. Our leads are a piemaker with necromantic powers, a dead girl walking, a jockey turned waitress, a private investigator who also knits and writes pop-up books, and two retired mermaid entertainers. It’s whimsical and wild in all the best ways while still having really creative, engaging mysteries.
There are so many incredible, unique murder mysteries out there- the genre really spans so many wonderful stories. These are just a few that I think are really fun and fans of Beniot Blanc will enjoy! For my fellow murder mystery fans, I’d love to hear what you’d recommend to folks just starting to get familiar with the genre as well!

Knives Out Vs. Glass Onion: Aesthetics in Storytelling
The Beniot Blanc cinematic universe is masterclass in using aesthetic to convey a story and I have so many thoughts! Let's look at all the clever ways Rian Johnson and his production team used aesthetic to enhance these movies.  Both Knives Out and Glass Onion rely on aesthetic choices to define their shared universe, round out their characters, and clue us in early on about the mysteries being told.

Oh okay cool because I was wondering if you could do one where Beniot goes I to labour, but his water doesn't break until after he solves the case (for both films?)
I can totally dig into that!
Okay, I’m going to follow the anon that brought up both Philip and Benoit carrying their children this time, as I love every scenario of them having a lot of kids. Let’s say that, by the first film, he and Phillip have had their first kid, a daughter, and their twin boys. I’m going by the logic that “Knives Out” takes place at the end of 2018, in which Benoit is pregnant with their son. I would imagine that, when he gets the envelope from Ransom, he is quite far along, like overdue far along, but the case intrigues him so deeply that he takes it despite Philip’s concerns. He brushes them off (“Darlin’, this boy’s takin’ his sweet damn time. If he hasn’t come out yet, I imagine he’ll wait a while longer.”). This is definitely kind of awkward for everyone involved, given how massive he is and how the kid’s definitely dropped by this point, but he doesn’t seem to pay it any mind. Only when they’re chasing down Marta and Ransom does he begin to feel some pains. He does his best to ignore them and even his singing while listening to music is his attempt at calming the kid and easing the discomfort. Hell, he completely brushes off the doctors that ask after his health when they’re in the hospital for Fran. Only after Ransom is arrested and he has spoken to Marta on how she may handle the Thromby family does he pull Elliot aside and ask him is he’d kindly drive him to the hospital, as his water broke some time during Ransom’s stabbing attempt.
When Helen arrives at their apartment, Philip has to resist the urge to slam the door in her face and pretend there’s a mistake. He has nothing against her and is quite sympathetic to her plight. But the last time Benoit went on a case while pregnant, he missed the birth of their youngest son because he was in fucking Massachusetts. And I like to imagine that Benoit carries long, so he is significantly farther in his pregnancy than most would make it with twins. But come on, Philip, she needs his help. And surely, there’s no way such a birth situation would happen again (famous last words). Even Helen is worried about asking him to come, but Benoit won’t be stopped. He gets a doctor’s note, flies to Greece, and arrives at Miles’ island. This group is also a bit shaken by how far along this guy is, but it doesn’t play much of a role in things compared to everything else going on. Hell, things only come to a head when he leaves Helen to destroy the Glass Onion and he’s sitting outside with Derol, taking in the chaos. The man beside him offers him his joint and he declines, only for Derol to gesture to his chair (“Hey, man. I think you spilled something.”) and Benoit curses and hurries off to meet the police that turn up, thankful to see a medical crew amongst them. He’s in too much pain to think about how much Philip will tell him “I told you, Blanc!”.

Ok so unpopular opinion, but something about glass onion just didn’t sit right with me. No doubt I loved the idea of the movie. I absolutely loved Helen as a character. I loved the message of the entire movie. I think there were very clever moments, and I loved that u can go back and see Miles with the gun. I think miles as an antagonist was also great. Plus bonus for getting to see the fun side of Beniot Blanc.
But it just didn’t feel as fleshed out as Knives Out.
The suspense for me just wasn’t there
It felt underdone and overdone in different ways
Knives out it’s own unique dark tone,
The tone was conveyed by everything from the lighting to the basic layout, to the way the people spoke, and how it was paced
But Glass Onion felt like it had a generic tone,
The tone felt as fake Cassandra’s friends
It felt too bubbly in a way,
Obviously the dark tone of Knives Out WOULD NOT have fit Glass Onion. But the bubbly and bright tone felt a bit too Hollywood-big and bright for me.
And some parts of the movie felt like they were overdone. For example the blow up scene. I legit thought everyone had died in that explosion because it looked like it would have obliterated everyone in that glass dome.
So it felt wrong when they were all alive and unharmed by the flames. I was like “oh ok” I guess someone just wanted to really show off their special effect skills with a GIANT ASS EXPLOSION with no regard for the reality of a hydrogen bomb on the human anatomy.
Anyway, I’ll have to watch it again to really get a good feel for it but it’s all personal opinion

Headcannons of pregnant Beniot during Glass Onion?
Oh man, just imagine:
Benoit already going stir-crazy because of the pandemic, but the pregnancy making it all the worse. I feel like he wouldn’t make a point to tell anyone about it outside of Philip (and maybe Marta and/or other past individuals he connected deeply with on cases, as I like to imagine he keeps up with them through e-mails or letters 🥰), not because of any emotional ties, but because he wants to keep connected with people without feeling like their conversation will be dominated by the subject of his pregnancy.
I’m not sure how far along he’d be when Helen arrives at his door, but I think it would be enough that he’s showing, but not so far that he couldn’t hide it. I think he would keep it hidden from her as they discuss the matter of her case and when he agrees to take it on/make their plan, he also doesn’t broach it.
He and Philip have a bit of a fight when she leaves and he starts packing for Greece. Philip would be angry about him taking on the case, as maybe they agreed to use the pandemic, devastating as it may be, as a means of keeping Benoit relaxed and safe while pregnant, only for him to take this on. He’d point out how he’d essentially let Blanc wallow the way he’s been because he knows he’s frustrated about the way things are, but this is dangerous and— Benoit knows it is, but he can’t just deny this woman help because of dangers. And he’ll own up to Philip that he is eager to get out and take on a case finally, but he feels that Helen getting justice for her sister is far more important and she doesn’t have legality on her side. Eventually, Philip gives in, with the caveat that Benoit make efforts to check in and pull back enough to ensure that he and the baby are safe.
In Greece, things stay relatively fine and as-is within the film. He avoids drinking, he wears more billowy clothes to ensure that what changes there are can’t be identified, he helps Helen to find motives and opportunity, all according to plan. However, things begin to stray when Miles panics about the lights going off. As we see in that hilarious scene, he grabs at Blanc constantly, even holding his waist and torso in order to “protect himself”. But I’d like to think he’s doing this because of some information that gets back to him from his driver/assistant; when Benoit is going to be given the weird mouth-shot, he asks if there’s “anyone that… that may not be safe for” and he’s adamant that it is completely safe for all parties and rattles off a list of types of people it is still safe for, including expectant parents. He reports Blanca’s hesitancy to Miles and even goes digging for him, using resources to find Blanc’s medical records. Miles grabbing at Benoit is to confirm what he thinks he knows, in his own dumb way.
The rest of the movie largely goes as it does on screen, maybe with Miles divulging Blanc’s secret as a way of implying that maybe he is compromised somehow? I don’t know. I feel like him telling his group/Helen that would really make a difference. He’d still give Helen the Klear and slip away to chill with Derol in the garden, with the only difference being that he isn’t smoking. He and Helen return home without issue and Philip is so relieved that his husband is home safe (though not without being a little panicked at the knowledge that he’d narrowly avoided a hydrogen explosion).
