7. Do they (or would they) pursue the other character’s affection, and if so, how? Do they tell the other character how they feel? Try to earn their admiration? Woo them with romantic gestures? Flirt with them, skillfully or otherwise?
Nailah pursues G'raha's affection in the most oblique ways possible, all for the sake of plausible deniability should he not return her affections. She'll try to spend time around him ("I have nowhere better to be" or "I think you'll like this place") or she'll get food for him ("I was hungry and bought more than I could eat") or she'll bring a neat trinket for him (she doesn't even try to justify it, she just leaves it with a little note on his desk saying its for him).
Words don't come easily to her, and even less so when she's trying to communicate her feelings. Whenever she's tried to tell him how much he means to her, even as a friend, the words get caught in her throat and refuse to come out. She's somewhat better at writing her thoughts into poetry, but her poor handwriting and habit of switching between hroth and common makes them difficult to read. She has recently discovered an interest in scoring music, though, and is trying to compose a song to give to him in the form of a small music box. She hopes it will, at the very least, show him how she sees him as a good friend and admires his character.
On G'raha's side, he tries to be as verbally open as possible with her without outright saying he loves her. He'll tell her about places he's recently read about to try and make conversation with her, which she usually obliges in her normal terse way. He'll shower her in compliments at the slightest provocation, nearly waxing poetic at her accomplishments, which she bashfully brushes off. His most successful attempts have been letters detailing what he's been up to since they last met, which he leaves in her room at the annex for her to find later. She cherishes each one she finds.

What is your opinion on the books hinting that Moon shouldn't have existed but the Faz-pads most expensive menu items is moon themed? And the posters, plushies, and the infamous sphere? I loved your other 'rant' (for lack of a better term in my sleep deprived mind) and it got me thinking...
Tumblr media
I’m guessing you mean the Moon that appears in The Bobbiedots who was originally built to be the “dark side” of Sun and once worked as a theatre animatronic?
Okay spoilers for The Bobbiedots, Somniphobia and Security Breach and some rambling thoughts ahead:
In short, I think the books’ canon (even from one book to another like say Bobbiedots and Somniphobia) and the games’ canon are more like AUs of each other than anything else, so basically different explanations will be given in different stories to fit that book or game in particular. So, Bobbiedots Moon wasn’t meant to exist in the daycare, but it looks like Security Breach Moon was. That said, I LOVE exploring the different versions of Moon and how he’s used in different stories, so if anyone wants to take the long scenic route with me, here we go!
Bobbiedots Moon
Theatre kid extraordinaire. A little too committed to the bit. Bobbiedots Moon doesn’t fit in his world - not in the daycare anyway. In The Bobbiedots, they’re busy dealing with an evil apartment. They don’t have time for poor Moon, no matter how badly he wants them to sleep.
Bobbiedots Moon feels like a bit of a throwback to the animatronics in Sister Location who had all these “interesting” design choices, like a stomach hatch for storing children (which totally wasn’t going to be used for evil, come on guys …).
In Moon’s case, he’s so good at being a pantomime villain (which is what he was made for from what we can tell - who bets he got booed because the kids wanted the sun to come back up and when the lights went out they’d fake snore and he’d go hunting down the naughty ones who couldn’t help but laugh?) that he’s no good in the daycare (personally I think the staff just weren’t imaginative enough in that universe to do naptime, or to appreciate the charm of a weird clown telling off wobbling toys for not sleeping when his recognition sensors inevitably failed him because they couldn’t be bothered to fix their broken animatronics). And he’s easy to exploit because he’s so committed to his role.
I don’t think Moon was evil by default when he worked at the theatre - at least not beyond his villainous role. He had an audience of probably more people than he could grab, and I’m guessing Freddy’s wanted repeat performances so their customers would keep coming back. Did he kidnap a child or two when the lights went out and everyone was confused? Maybe, if he was virus-riddled enough. Did he become a lot more unstable when he and Sun were moved to the daycare? Probably, but it’s not his fault he was an afterthought in a cheapo organisation that seems to think using precariously-placed backup generators is a better solution to their problems.
Security Breach Moon
Meanwhile, the Security Breach version of Moon has a TON of merch, a dish at the restaurant (Masa-Moondrop curry, yum! 💖 By the way, I totally recommend checking out this recipe ), and even his own little candy adverts. He’s on a statue, balloons, plushies, and even on the daycare pass right next to Sun. It would take a LOT of accidental advertising to put Moon all over the place if he wasn’t supposed to exist in Security Breach.
I think that, unlike the Bobbiedots Moon, Security Breach Moon was supposed to exist. Like you said, he’s got merch everywhere. It’s a big deal. And Moon’s merch matches all of Sun’s merch, so to me it makes sense that in the backstory of the game’s universe they both had a friendly role to play (I can’t imagine why they’d make a Moon plush with no one to hug him. The thought makes me sad. It also seems like a bad business move on their part so I’m opting to believe he was originally meant to be a friend to the kids).
But it looks like things took a turn at some point (as they so often do in the FNAF universe), as Security Breach also has the cheapo lighting in place, and Sun is pretty adamant that we don’t wake up Moon. And in this case it’s pretty clear that Moon has been infected by the Afton virus. He sounds like a bot with just one thing on his mind: putting you to bed at all costs.
Moon is a major player as far as the evil Afton operation goes in the game too. They picked a perfect bot to do their dirty work. He’s super strong - he knocked out Freddy and dragged him away with no problems. He’s also super agile - he can navigate all the tight twists and turns in the Daycare with relative ease (I pointedly ignore the version in my game while I make this statement as he seemed to spend most of his time getting stuck in the tunnels and slides kekeke). And he always seems to know where you are - the Glamrocks wander until they have you in their sights, but Moon makes a beeline for you the moment he can get his hands on you even if you’re inside Freddy’s stomach compartment. He works in the dark when no one can see him coming. He’s basically the perfect replacement for the night staff and makes it a million times easier to capture wayward kids.
There are also a lot of hints in the game that suggest that Security Breach Moon might have actually been reprogrammed to respond this way, and/or that he was used to reprogram the others.
Tumblr media
The back areas with the endos are FULL of Moon merch, advertising, and so on. There are also a lot of posters teaching the animatronic endos how to behave, as well as a little room that looks a LOT like a little replica of the daycare play area. I’m pretty sure that this is where the animatronics (or at least the virus-riddled endos) were reprogrammed to capture children - maybe including Moon.
Tumblr media
(There are a million things I could say about this poster and how it bears a strong resemblance to a bunch of things from earlier games but that’s for another time and another ramble …)
Somniphobia Moon
Meanwhile, over in Somniphobia, we have Moondrop’s dream sphere, where Moon ponders his orb, or perhaps his new friends who are now trapped inside it forever since it seems like he’s been stealing more than a few souls over there.
The dream sphere is not mentioned in The Bobbiedots or seen in Security Breach as far as I can tell. Whether it exists or not in those universes is open to interpretation, but it serves a clever purpose in Somniphobia. In this book, our favourite uncanny night jester spends his time luring unsuspecting victims into the dreamscape slowly without them realising. The protagonist actually has a few opportunities to escape the pull of the orb, but he just can’t put the dream sphere down because it takes him back to his favourite memories with his (now dead) father, and it makes their time together feel so real.
The dream sphere is advertised as a study guide, and it’s popular with older kids and teens. (Moon has the range). Our regular chase-you-down-and-force-you-to-sleep Moon is nowhere to be found in Somniphobia (whether he exists at the plex in the daycare or anywhere else in that universe is anybody’s guess) and instead we have sweet little Moondrop from the dream sphere who doesn’t speak but will let you see your wildest dreams. At the cost of your mind, which is now going to live in a sphere I guess or be harvested.
Can you befriend the little Moondrop from the dream sphere? Does he know he’s part of a creepy soul-stealing operation? The book doesn’t really say, but if he’s anything like most of the other animatronic/AI characters in the FNAF universe, I’d be willing to wager he’s just doing his job (showing people what they want to see) and being used as a prop for more nefarious soul-snatching schemes. (Curse you Fazbear Entertainment for giving us this funny little guy in a magic snowglobe and making him steal our souls along with our hearts!)
Conclusion
Essentially, I think Moon is being used in basically all the universes he appears in because he’s so perfectly built for capturing and retrieving wayward souls, but the way he’s being used differs a little between universes. In some universes it’s just not as convenient to have him showing up in front of a large audience thanks to his programming, but when the lights inevitably go out he has a tendency to show up nonetheless!

Mine is soooooo contradictory, it’s fascinating. He prioritizes long term gains to such an effect he got ousted from his R&D job because of it but blows money to an outrageous degree in the short time of Yakuza 3 and his justification for it is that he’ll make up the money later. (Won’t exactly matter if you bankrupt NOW, now will it huh?) His primary goal is to find someone who values people over cash and once he finds that in Daigo he criticizes him for the naïve perspective saying that he should focus on the interests of the Clan as a whole and not on third, unrelated, parties (Kiryu). In his rooftop speech he makes a point that he wouldn’t have spent all of Yakuza 3 trying to keep a hold over the Tojo Clan if Daigo hadn’t ‘failed’ him. Meaning that up to the events of the game Mine had been living proof of his answer by following Daigo through and through WHILE (if we count RGGO) continuously advocating for a ‘Clan first people later’ approach. He’s actually his own worst enemy. Just a constant self sabotage of what he wants versus what he believes is best.

what are your thoughts on the seven? Like, what are we to make of them as deities?
just reread the series, and on first pass (tho i plan to go back searching for this) it seems like the seven come off as... less Tangible than the Old Gods/R'hllor. like melisandre births shadow assassins. bloodraven Exists. clearly there's something to these gods. maybe not what their worshipper's think, but like. a Power, for sure.
By contrast, the seven seem to exist solely in the minds of those who believe in them. Trials by combat seem to be 50/50. Tyrion win's Lysa's but loses Cersei's. the faith of the seven are notoriously corrupt, and after the sparrow's takeover, is going full-tilt crazy fundamentalist.
Yet these gods bring a great deal of comfort to the characters who believe in them. And I can't help but think about Septon Meribald, wandering the war-torn riverlands barefoot to give out oranges and flour and alms to those in need. That kind of religious-charity seems to be exclusive to the seven.
So given all this... idk, what's their deal? Are they "gods as a reflection of humanity"? "gods as a reflection of society"? I feel like "they were always 100% fake and anyone who ever prayed to them was praying to nothing" is a little too grimdark for grrm, but idk!
Sorry for the long ask jfjsjjd
i am not a good meta poster or essayist so my apologies for what will surely be a poor answer 😭 so introduction. grrm is lapsed catholic and the seven is like soo barely removed from catholicism. also rhllor/old gods doing things in text doesnt necessarily make them, the gods, real. the magic is certainly real but that doesnt mean the gods themselves are real. and so that goes into the whole Do the gods of planetos actually exist at all. so the faith isnt actually alone in having the Are the gods real? question
the faith is based on faith right, belief without necessarily having proof. it's pretty unique actually for that. the old gods have weirwoods and dreams, rhllor has shadowbinding, but the faith doesnt even have martyrdom/saints/incorruptibility/miracles/etc. its purely a social function; hierarchy, laws, morality and life-after-death existentialism.
i think this is what grrm is exploring, another brick in the wall of Society. like how is religion used as a hammer for hierarchy and how does it interact with power, with patriarchy, with classism. yes, the faith descends into fundamentalism but its also one of the only ways the peasant class can organise and attack the establishment. its social mobility in a way they cant otherwise access.
so i guess in all my rambling, i'd agree with the assessment that its 'gods as a reflection of society/humanity'. i dont think the fact that theyre 100% fake is bleak, really. i think all religions are fake irl but that doesnt take away from the beauty and love and joy they can bring to people. for every cruel septa/on, there's a meribald who brings peace and forgiveness.
idk again i am not a good meta poster i cant pull out quotes for shit 😭 but i remember the moments of jaime earnestly praying. and you look at melisandre who uses her faith in rhllor as a desperate attempt to justify her own sense of self, her suffering, her actions. its similar in a way to the faith. melisandre's total belief in rhllor, no matter how delusional, is just as important as if rhllor himself actually existed.
so to summarise, the meaning we gain from metaphysical concepts can be just as important as the perceived power of the metaphysical concept itself. idk im sure im making a mess of the philosphical idealism vs materialism plus i am making no sense and making no actual points but i hope this communicates my personal interpretation of the faith of the seven!

there's a larger commentary to be made about parents using their children as props/statements and not acknowledging their personhood, or how the actions of the parents affect the present/future of the child, however one specific issue that i personally witness that's a little heartbreaking re: Naming, is kids with the shit like 'kaleigheighegih' really struggling to know how to spell their own names, and getting discouraged.
i don't do too much with the really young kids at the library, but occasionally i help out, and there's so many in the pre-k age range who are learning the alphabet and how to write, and watching their friends have moments like "i did it! i wrote my name!!!" and it's like. kim, or ryan, or shayla, or emma, which are pretty easy, phonetically straight-forward.
then we have Shannaleigheia and Konstanteen and Hannahbeth (pronounced anna-bet), and Jaikobb, who take a bit longer to get to that proud moment of "i did it! and i can do it again without help! and i have it memorized!" milestone bc mom and dad (but mostly mom) spend too much time on insidious mommy facebook groups and think that alphabet soup thrown on the floor is a good way to decide how to spell Sharon (Charinn) or whatever. and believe me, they are keenly aware that they are the last ones who hit the ability to write their names. they don't understand why they're struggling, but it's impacting them to realize they are 'failing'.
like i'm not saying we can't have fun with names (world's 5 billionth john, chris, jessica, liam, emma, etc) but i don't think pulling a french and adding 60 extra secret vowels is any fun for anyone, least of all me who now has to remember the name Carly 9 different times for 9 the different spellings of it, lest i be screeched at by mothers

Then besides you. Who else in the Aesop community/family is still alive? I havent been on tumblr much so it was a shock not being able to find Man in Gray anymore 😭😭😭😭
Ah... I'm actually kind of surprised that u think that my blog is still alive (well, barely, but i try) (work is seriously draining nowadays among other life tm stuff)
Tbh I feel like I've fallen out of the ask blog community for a while now. I always say that there's definitely some out there that are vibing, I'm just not aware of them since most of the blogs that i tend to interact with n know arent exactly very present in the scene anymore, but just cos I'm not aware of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Probably.

SPOILERS FOR NEW SPIDERVERSE
I just saw the new spiderverse (it was amazing) and all I can say is SERIOUSLY?? Y'all are thirsting over this guy???
Tumblr media
Man is beefing with a fucking fifteen year old! He sees Miles and immediately goes straight to ragging on him for not knowing something that he deliberately kept Miles out of the loop from! Oh wow Miguel! Miles doesn't know what a Canon event is? Crazy! It's almost like he was specifically excluded from the group of people who knew all about that! Who excluded him Miguel? Why didn't he know? That's what I thought bitch
and then he's like "yeah ik you have no superhero support network, yeah I have specifically told your friends not to speak to or talk to you for no reason I will explain, your dad dies in two days (I am yelling this at you minutes after getting unreasonably mad you didn’t know about things that are common knowledge in my spiderman club (the club you aren't allowed to join)) and also you aren't allowed to save him. I expect you to react calmly and logically to this news. I see no problem with any of this why are you being unreasonable" when Miles is understandably upset by this
Like the sheer audacity of this fucker is unbelievable

Please tell me Donatello doesn't end up paralyzed. And also, I can't believe Leo wet himself XD
If it makes you feel any better I actually didn't plan the spinal injury. It just kind of happened.
Bro I have another ask that talks about the dinosaur sounds I was referencing; when I have the spoons I'm going to hunt down links to all the videos I took inspiration from. Because look, whatever the fuck our ancestors were at the time, they heard that shit and made sure to write down their fear into our very genetic code. It is a primal fear and you'd probably lose control of your facilities as well.
(also it's caused by an influx of adrenaline blocking the hormone that causes our bladders to clench, so it's really not something you can control. Be glad it didn't happen to his bowels)

Random personal post.
Been struggling with picking a new last name.
Been wanting to change it for a while but I've always had trouble wrapping my head around picking my own names. Personally just always felt weird about it.
When I changed my first name, the name was picked by a close friend of mine. That worked out well. I like my name.
You know that feeling like... you see someone and learn their name, and you're like... "you look like a _____ (insert name here)." Obviously that's complete bullshit but it didn't take long for me to look in the mirror and have that feeling for myself.
Anyways. I'll take pointers and suggestions into consideration. No promises though. Don't want to do this more than once.

I love my mom but I have no idea how to deal with her being all guilty and mopey about my upbringing. Like yeah obviously I don't want her to feel bad abt something she didnt have much control over but it makes me annoyed trying to comfort her about something that ultimately fucked me up too. Her guilt doesn't really do anything for either of us and it certainly doesn't change the past. It just makes me feel like the work I've done to heal the damage hasn't been enough.
