Throwback to this event from 2018 in Ostia after the screening of Non Essere Cattivo during Notte Caligari hosted by Il Cinema In Piazza.
I just think they are neat and hilarious at public events huge thanks to @weardes for tracking it down in this gifset.
Full video in the comments. Brief translation under the cut:
The host is thanking those of the crew who couldn't be there, and then asks everyone if they want to share a memory about Ostia or if they have anything they want to say in particular to the people there, since this was an event that brought the movie where it was shot after three years from its release, in some way closing the cycle with the palce too.
People didn't know who had to start and the host called Alessandro to speak first since he already had the mic.
Alessandro says that it seems like this cycle never ends, that even after so many years since they've met to make this movie, they are still here talking about it and this fact makes him, and them all, emotional. The only thing he can do is to shout his most absolute thanks to everyone for being here and to still want to watch the movie, and more in general for wanting to support cinematography. If one is in love with Non Essere Cattivo it's because they love a certain kind of cinematography, which is what they also love.
Then he makes a joke, aside from his huge thanks, he's passing the mic to Giordano Meacci (screenwriter), that way he'll have things to say for 40 minutes, and quote: "Nah, that's not true, look how handsome he is. And nothing, thank you, what else can I say? There's here Luca Marinelli who has something to say."
Luca meanwhile is taking pictures with an analog camera and is caught off guard, and says "Just like in the 90s." And Alessandro asks if it works with film, that camera, and Luca goes, "Yes, yes. You gotta develop it. Those things..." and makes a gesture to mean 'ancient'.
He then also thanks everyone and starts elaborating a reply. He says it's very, very, veeery moving, and this story really never ends. A while ago, when they were following and promoting the movie, they used to say it was like a book, every time you turn the page and it's blank then it starts filling in as colors start to appear, and seeing everyone here again– "it's been a while but... [emphatically] it doesn't seem like it."
At that everyone laughs and Alessandro cracks up, clinging to his shoulder, and Luca just closes with, "It's beautiful, thank you." Everyone claps and they move on to the screenwriters.

It's already 1AM, too late, too dark, and it's beginning to rain on top of it. But there's one more house left to search on the block and part of me just wants to get it over with. One or two zeds won't be so much of a hassle, even in this godforsaken downpour.
Suddenly, the fog clears. For just a moment, I can see what is right in front of me — not one or two of the undead like I'd assumed, but an entire horde of them. It's okay, though. With the fog and the rain combined, visibility is low. There's still time to turn back and disappear into the relative safety of our base unseen.
I turn to warn my companion, @booksandbreakdowns — and hear them shout, "HEY!! OVER HERE!!" They shout across the neighborhood, into the sky, down into the depths of hell where still more ghouls are clawing their way up to meet us. My companion's shouting has roused the ancient pharaohs in their tombs, the lost Vikings at the bottom of the sea. And all I have between us and the ravenous horde is a single stick.
It flies out of my hands on the first strike. God laughs directly in my face.

@raytm said: " judge me all you want, but this blanket fort has brought me more peace than anything else in my entire life. " rindou to izana 😔🙌
blanket fort prompts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Izana stares at the arrangement of pillows and blankets that take up part of the living room of the Haitani's places. Evidently Rindou had not expected anyone to be coming over — least of all Izana. Or, at least so Izana would assume. He doubted it would have been created if Rindou had known he'd been coming over. But he can respect Rindou's quick recover after the initial exchange of surprised stares when Izana had walked in and Rindou had peeked his head out. Few would have the guts to stick with it, much less admit to it being refuge.
" Don't let Ran hear that. " Izana remarks with an audible note of amusement, watching as Rindou disappears back under the safety of blankets and into the refuge he's created for himself. " I think he'd find a way to both be insulted and tease you for it. " Izana does not plan to tell.
He's struck by a memory he hasn't thought about in a very long time as he gazes at Rindou's fort, one that is bittersweet on his tongue. He remembers making one with Kakucho, huddling inside their castle. Izana had thought it was stupid to call something so flimsy a castle, but Kakucho had been beaming from ear to ear. And in the end, Izana had relented it to calling it their castle in the orphanage. As silly as it was, it was one of the coziest moments, just like the igloo they'd made. Izana takes a few steps closer to Rindou's refuge and crouches down outside the entrance of it.
What leaves Izana is not mockery or judgement.
" Can I come in? " He asks, surprising himself with his own words despite the fact he'd spoken them. And in the fact he asked lies the distinction. This is is Izana rather than the King of Tenjiku. To outsiders, he doubts there would be a visible difference. But there are small nuances, a softer side the subtly shows when he temporarily lets the crown rest in his lap rather than on his head. He gives Rindou a genuine choice that will be respected. " My shoes and coat are already at the door. " He adds, like he already anticipates a scolding if he's allowed entrance.
( It will, inevitably, be a moment only they know of and that Izana will not mention on his own in the future. )

I read somewhere that Saitama isn't a gag character, but rather his powers because, him, as an individual, doesn't have the characteristics of a gag character. And that makes me wonder, is OPM still a parody? Because honestly at first I took it as such, but the journey the manga has made until now tells otherwise. It started becoming serious with the Garou arc and since then it has built a pretty solid storyline with actual lore and important arcs instead of random shenanigans like in the beginning. It has explored the value of people's relationships, the struggle to not lose your humanity and how sometimes what you want isn't what you need. And that's deeper than what other "serious" series try to tell.
So I see this topic repeatedly come up a lot, and while sure, the story's enriched by plenty of parodic elements, references, and pointed commentary (and pretty strong ironic/absurdist humor - which is more a signature of ONE's style, as you'll find the same things in mp100 for that matter) opm itself is still a plenty serious story in its own right. :O That I think it's sadder when people are bound by the expectation or misconception that the entire series is a joke, to be completely written off as something frivolous, shallow or episodic without seeing any of its other merits it has to offer. :') But fortunately, it still has that rewarding depth for those who care and choose to look closer past the surface. So I personally treat and enjoy the series as I would any other legitimate work of art/literature - as that's what it is, as something made/intended for fun, comfort, reflection, and altogether as an incredible labor of love.
