okay emotional alert!!

it's december 30th, which means it's been one year since I posted my first fic on here!! my first fic was The Orange. - i'd watched TGM like 20 times throughout the year and thought i'd try my hand at writing jake. I posted it, went to bed, and woke up to find people commenting and reblogging, which was completely unexpected!!

i've read fanfiction for years, and always wanted to write it, but I never had the courage. and then all of a sudden, I thought fuck it, and let go of all the embarrassment and reluctance.

so glad I did!! writing has brought me so much joy this year, and has truly been the most beautiful outlet for me. so many of my fics have touched so many people, and that feeling is just indescribable.

to everyone who's liked, reblogged, commented and sent me messages... thank you. from the bottom of my heart.

last year there was no one here, and now there's four and a half thousand of you.

With the moral support and guidance of his mother, Makoto whips up a dish he’s never made before.

With Haruka’s blue apron tied snuggly around his waist, the ingredients stalled out on the countertop, his tablet with the recipe perched up against the wall, and a video chat with his mom open on his phone, Makoto was ready to start cooking.

Although his skills in the kitchen were nowhere near as good as Haruka’s, Makoto’s days of mistaking salt for sugar were long since left in the past. There were about a dozen simple dishes he could confidently whip up without a recipe and mackerel in miso was one of them. But, even if it was one of Haruka’s favourite meals, Makoto had made that for him so many times in the past that it wouldn’t be special anymore.

Instead, he was going to attempt to cook something even Haruka had never made before, which was a prospect that made Makoto unreasonably nervous. After all, the worst thing that could happen was that he’d mess it up and his surprise would be ruined, but he was sure Haruka would appreciate his effort nonetheless - or he could set their kitchen on fire, but even with unfamiliar recipes, Makoto felt self-assured enough that he didn’t think that would happen. But still, the long list of instructions was quite intimidating and even if he simply had to follow the steps, Makoto felt pretty overwhelmed nonetheless.

Watched the Nice Guys today, since I cannot take my dogs for a walk because it's raining (which is awesome) and I thought I had previously seen it, but I had completely forgotten the movie's plot. How the fuck is this dumb movie so good? ---- It's like a noir/buddy cop movie, but the protags are kinda scumbags in a way in which I think it could never quite properly work in an actual buddy cop movie? Like it's all about LA's seedy underbelly and shit, so it's supposed to be considered noir, but there is a little bit too much black comedy to be fully noir.

---- And while Shane Black is never afraid to tread on old ground (I do remember Kiss Kiss Bang Bang sharing a lot of elements with this one), Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling make for incredibly compelling comedic protagonists. If you don't have any plans, I highly recommend to give this a watch. See ya' later, alligator!
