Mas aqui não tem muito, nem grade, nem guarda florestal, nem alfândega. É só o marco e um monumento marcando a fronteira l. Teoricamente você pode ir dos EUA pro Canadá com a permissão que você emite online, mas não pode fazer o inverso. Mas não tem ninguém ali controlando. Cheguei ali, fiz minha fotos, abri o espumante que estava levando e entrei no país vizinho. São mais 16 quilômetros, não computados, até o parque Manning. No caminho cruzei com um caro e o filho de bicicleta. Disse que ele devia fazer a PCT dia. “Já fiz vários trechos aqui perto de bicicleta. É ilegal, você sabe, mas ninguém toma conta...” Eu já não tinha nada de comido na mochila e fui direto ao restaurante. Um hamburger, uma cerveja, a conta. Senha invalida no cartão. Tenta esse. Senha invalida de novo. Tenta esse então. “A gente não aceita American Express... mas tem um caixa eletrônico ali na porta”. Vou lá. Tento sacar dinheiro da minha conta. Cartão recusado. De novo o drama... consigo resolver tirando 100 dólares do cartão de crédito da American. Mais uma coisa pra resolver mais tarde... My dear friend @jordandhorner took this photo of me on top of Mt. Whitney circa July 2015. I am looking out the window obviously late to dawn patrol wondering how many miles we have to walk that day. If I am not mistaken, we went from the top of Whitney almost all the way to Bubbs Creek. To far, but needed. After the previous day/night of climbing/sheltering/standing/freezing/bleeding our way up the East Buttress we slept nice and cozy. I’ve learned a ton of things through my friends like Jordan and Aaron. Some of them being determination and perseverance even when things suck. Having the privilege to tackle an goal like the one we were tackling on the #sierrahighroute is a proud moment for me. We walked from Canada to Mexico! 2650 miles in exactly 4 months. We faced insane bugs, relentless heat, river crossings, smoke from fires, 30 mile water carries, high altitude, the desert and the weight of 8 days of food. We saw bears, tarantulas, a mountain lion and were rattled and hissed at by rattlesnakes. By the end, we hiked before sunrise, got to camp after dark and my body and feet made me feel like an old man. But for 4 months we got to live our values - treading lightly on the planet, close to nature and living simply. We had new horizons every day, beautiful sunsets and starry nights. We got to be part of an amazing community of people walking south on the trail and saw the kindness of humanity through people that gave us rides, trail magic or put us up in their homes.
