could i get your take on what the companions (or just my favorite boy X6's) top 10 fave candies/foods would be in a modern AU?
anon you are in luck, because I am constantly thinking about the diets and eating habits of my blorbos
The numbered list isn't in any particular order, it's just so I don't have to manually count each point
so
What the companions would eat if not in a post apocalypse
Cait; Wouldn't have a taste for fancier cuisine. Eats more...hick-ish. I can say that because I was a hick with this kind of diet, growing up. Has a taste for filling, cheap, low-effort food...think lots of fast food, but "healthier" fast food. Like Chipotle, Panera, etc. Can cook, doesn't often, but will if she has a craving. Savory or tart tastes. She tends to eat lighter than you'd expect.
Blueberry brownie anything, favors dark chocolate in general
Submarine sandwiches, anything with pickles
Key lime pie
Salt and vinegar chips and thinks critics of such chips are cowards
Peach Redbull, any energy drinks though
Storebought hummus and Doritos, has been seen eating hummus with just a spoon though
Blueberry bread pudding. Simple to make, fun to eat, very comforting. Buys her bread already stale from a local bakery, has a guy to hook her up with the old shit
Seafood chowder
Sausages in any capacity. Jerky sticks, breakfast sausage, etc. Loves chorizo.
Honey buns from the gas station
Curie; Health nut, she eats like every influencer claims they eat like. Only, Curie actually eats like that. Lots of fresh foods and whole grains, little red meat. However, Curie makes a point to have foods that other health nuts would condemn, thinks its really important to not label any food as "bad." So, she balances between health nut and normal person. Her taste leans toward bright and/or sweet. Dislikes red meat.
Salmon breakfast wraps
Tropical fruit smoothies, eats so much pineapple
Iced tea, favors raspberry. Never seen without an iced tea of some kind
Halibut tacos, likes red cabbage and a fuck ton of lemon on it. Soft shells all the way
Bananas foster
Whipped brie dip, eats it with anything but loves it on apples, basically dessert
Lemon pepper grilled chicken and rice
So many salads, loves that you can just throw shit in a bowl and call it a recipe. Likes strawberries and almonds
Lemon poppyseed muffins
Shrimp and bitter melon stir fry
Danse; mixed bag. One on hand, small town diner tastes. Simple, cheap, good ol' American food. On the other, he's doomed to be a soldier in every universe he's in, so...maybe he picks up some tastes and dishes from places he's toured. Gets a weird pallate that shoots in all directions and makes you wonder what it's like in that thick skull. One day he's a good American boy with pancakes and steak, the next he's eating cake mix dry and drinking tahini from a flask.
Anything BBQ, but a pulled pork devotee
Hot coffee so heavily creamed and sugars it looks like milk. He likes the twix combo of chocolate, shortbread, and caramel flavors
Prepackaged baked goods a la Hostess, fucks up little Debbie oatmeal cookies
Apple and pecan pie
Menemen—Turkish dish, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, bell peppers, spices to taste, and (controversially) onions. Adds sausage and cheese, eats it with a fork or spoon (its meant to be eaten with bread)
Khachapuri—Georgian cheesy bread with egg. Eats with a knife and fork. (its meant to be eaten with the bread crust)
Smores pop tarts
Beef and potato stew
Rice bowl with fried egg and avocado, bonus points if it has bacon
Straight cookie dough/brownie/cake batter, usually when he's black out drunk and cannot shame himself out of eating raw egg products.
Deacon; Very childhood comfort food. Y'know, things you had as a kid, but probably grew out of a bit? Eats out of gas stations/takeout frequently. Very open flavor pallete, has tried everything he's had the chance to. Likes one-handed food, stuff you can have the other hand free for. Doesn’t really have a 'theme', has broad horizons for his diet. Likes lighter, mild flavors, though. He eats lightly and on the go a lot.
Hot/corn dogs, taste in hot dog toppings varies
Egg salad sandwiches
French fries and vanilla ice cream, classic combo
Mango sticky rice
Cornbread with any accompaniments. Likes honey or chili, thinks if you have a drink with cornbread, you ain't a real cornhead
Penne alla vodka
Cucumber salad. This could mean a salad with cucumbers, that trending Asian recipe where you cut the cumber so its springy, or eating a cucumber like a hotdog.
Fried mushrooms
Usually just drinks water but will have gator/powerade when he's working. Likes purple flavor
Captain crunch cereal, loves all cereal though. Prefers the kibble stuff to the berries. Starts philosophical debates about the morality of Trix commercials vs Lucky Charms commercials
Gage; His favorite foods reflect his upbringing. Coastal swamp cuisine, cheap and made in bulk. Take Danse's pallate and hyperlocalize it, and then lower the budget by a good amount. Things he grew up eating. Would gradually replace his favorites with pricier, 'less embarrassing' dishes, distances himself from his origins. However, takes care to not looked too loaded. Smokey and savory flavors are his thing, likes more spice than people expect.
Doberge cake, which is layered with pudding, often half-chocolate and half-lemon
Red beans and rice, with stewed pork if they could afford it
Blackened fish of any kind, liked it with cilantro-lime rice
Steak with potatoes and/or eggs
Chronic iced tea drinker like Curie, though he prefers the bitter kinds
Scallops
Brussels sprouts defender and will fight for their honor
Peaches
Was introduced to curry during a business meeting/outing. Could drink that shit from a glass, has it with potatoes and porkchops.
Lobster anything. This is one of those 'less embarresing' things, but he genuinely enjoys a good lobster roll. Even if he prefers a freshly-caught lobster bisque. Again, something he had growing up, something he pushes away.
Hancock; Similar to Deacon, but favors fatty, greasy food. No, it's not the drugs, that's just his metabolism. He's a skinny twink, always starving, can never put on weight. Eats as much as Danse, who is a big guy and needs more calories than most. He's really into street food and foreign dishes, won't eat at a restaurant if they speak fluent English or have good customer service. IYKYK. Very comfort food heavy, lots of "this would slap with Netflix at 2 am"
A classic oxtail, mac and cheese, and collard green take out combo
Any and all American-chinese take out, usually gets eggplant tofu with chow mein and cream cheese rangoons
"Walking tacos", those things where you open a small bag of chips and dump White People taco makings in. Probably just tips the whole thing into his mouth
Yakitori, Japanese chicken skewers, popular bar food
Bloody Mary cocktails
Pizza, will fight for the honor of pineapple. Would really be into how Brazil does pizza
Frozen yogurt and ice cream, piles with toppings
Breakfast sandwiches or wraps. Egg, meat, cheese, doesn't matter the time nor specifics.
Jam donuts, loves cherry fillings
Puppy chow/muddy buddies, chex cereal covered in chocolate and powdered sugar. Eats his weight in them if not careful
MacCready; forces himself to learn how to cook for Duncan's sake, but for himself...good God. It's horrible. Eats like garbage. Would never drink water if not to set an example. Take out, frozen food, so much candy and soda. After Duncan, broadens his horizons. Finds he really likes soups. Just throw shit in a pot and it works. Eats on a budget, so that's a life-saver. Doesn't have a preferred flavor pallete, aside from his love of candy.
Meat lover's pizza. Thinks pineapple has no place on pizza
Used to drink Mountain Dew and diet coke, replaced it with iced teas and more organic fruit juices for the sake of his teeth
Chicken soup, either from a can, or homemade. Either way, slaps. If homemade, blends veggies for a hidden veggie stock. For him, Duncan is a lot better at eating veggies, MacCready needs to trick himself.
Sour rainbow ropes
Cookie crisp cereal, thinks whoever came up with it deserved the sloppiest head. Incredible design, no notes
Cheese and sour cream chips
Famous Amos cookies
Eggo waffles
Gnocchi is God to him. Its superior to all noodles and makes your Shit In The Fridge soup 1000 times better.
Rice pudding is cheap, easy, and a surprisingly efficient sweet-tooth satisfier. Makes it with pumpkin spice mix or chocolate.
Nick; Home-cooked meals all the way. Could kill himself with cheese and die happy. Lots of easy meals and snacking so he can keep working, but will treat himself to a nice, hard-earned dinner when he has the time and energy. Likes himself the smokey, the fresh, or the sour. Probably knows all the best sub shops in the city, probably in a turf war with regulars of rival shops. Jewish delicatessens are like church to him.
Lasanga. Most of his freezer space is lasagna. Eats so much of it. He's lactose intolerant. It hurts but it hurts so good
Latkes. Fried potato things, kind of like hashbrowns, except the potato is mashed/ground instead of grated. And yes. Also pastrami. But those little potato bitches...mmmph.
Red velvet muffins with cream cheese frosting.
Fried cheese in any capacity
A prosciutto, arugula, brie, and fig sandwich
Pickled pearl onions
Cobb salad
Black coffee. Temp doesn't matter, because he's going to forget it until its room temp.
Has been known to enter fugue states and consume an absurd amount of Chicago style hot dogs
Scones or just plain bread with butter and jams
Piper; Broke college student trying to make it as a reporter. Her tastebuds are fucked, they salivate not for flavor, or texture, but for those good, good low prices. Piper's diet is almost entirely snackfood or takeout. If she ever cooks, it's for Nat. But when taking care of just herself, Piper eats from a box or bag. When she does cook, it's very simple meals. Loves her carbs and her fruit flavors
Chicken Ramen with canned chicken and frozen broccoli chucked in. Also makes this for Nat
Hot cheetos, eats with chopsticks
Spaghetti and meatballs
Fruit smoothies/smoothie bowls, blends in veggies as well for the nutrition
Coka cola and anything from Fanta, loves fruit sodas
Anything carbs and I mean that. Eats a lot of bread, pasta, cakes, potatoes...they're the sweetheart of anyone on a budget.
Buffalo cauliflower, likes it more than Buffalo chicken
Chewing gum. Fruit flavors only, hates mint gum. Likes mint elsewhere, just not in gum.
Nickle-nips and other "jelly/juice in a wax package" candies. Likes the charm of it, also, free chewing wax
Suckers/lollipops, big on hard candy in general but the stick satisfies her smoking habit.
Preston; A mix of easy depression/bulk meals and dishes from his childhood. Lots of spices, cooks with a lot of straight peppers. Tends to eat his food 'raw', not made into a dish. Again, easy and quick to eat. Also tends to buy pre-prepared stuff for the same reason, buys more fruits and veggies and just eats them straight. Doesn't care about eating healthy, he just lacks energy to cook most days.
I have no choice to explain this as it has no name. Casserole dish, layer of mashed potatoes, layer of shredded or chunked chicken, layer of white breakfast gravy or brown poultry gravy, top with drop biscuits. It's buttery, its savory, it is white as snow. Easy, cheap, one ladlefull is dinner. You'll get a few meals out of it, and it's so filling you have like, five minutes before you're stuffed. I call it gut-glue.
Dirty rice
Eggs scrambled with spinach
Jollof/jambalaya
Veggies and hummus or ranch
Various fruits and berries such as grapes, cherries, blackberries, and oranges
Shakshouka, eggs poached in spicy tomato sauce and eaten with bread
Chicken biscuits, crackers dusted with, like, chicken bouillon? They taste like a chicken Ramen packet sneezed on a ritz
Slurpees/Icees/those syruped gas station ice drinks
Straight peppers, eats bell peppers like apples. Eats pickled jalapeños and scotch bonnets to feel something. Drinks the liquid in pickle jars instead of alcohol, or mixes it with gelatin and makes pickle jello.
X6-88; Pretensious rich asshole who eats like it. He rarely cooks for himself, probably has a personal chef or something. Maybe his work has their own restaurants, like Google. Eats mostly vegetables, but his favorite foods skew from "Dubai Influencer" to "12 year old who earned too much lawn mowing money and was let loose in a convenience store." So much sugar. Willy Wonka's factory is his idea of heaven and until it exists, he's an atheist.
Raw meats. Steak and tuna tartar, sashimi, and sushi
Braised duck with cherries
Nduja, a spicy pork sausage spread, has it with flatbreads
Oysters. Eats them all fancy in public, eats them from a tin with doritos at home
Anything from Hostess, Little Debbie, those brands. Fucking anything. However, would kill a man for any kind of Swiss roll
Chocolate milk
Gummies, very picky with brands, hates the harder kinds like Haribo. Wants his gummies soft as a marshmellow
Cadbury eggs
Milano dark chocolate cookies
Gushers

I cant tag you for some reason @acesatyr but I have typed all this up. I will get to fishing and foraging at some point, But this was already really long, lol.
I had originally written this in another word doc and realized I had typed over six paragraphs about seeds and germination alone. I really like farming.
Overall, this is mostly the generic info; I can detail or explain anything in depth, but I’m summarizing the important stuff, and the details are easily researchable. :)
A Revised and Bullet-Pointed Essay about Organic Apocalyptic Farming
Seeds, the basics:
-Stock up on seeds, they come in packets and are usually cheap depending on where you get them from. I like to store seeds in a mason jar, with a tightly sealed lid. It’s important they’re dry, and if possible, refrigerated. if not, any cold, dark, dry place will do.
-Germination is an easy process, DAMP (not sopping wet. DAMP) peice of thin cloth or paper towel, seeds laid out evenly, and put into either a ziplock baggie or something like a pyrex container. Again, air tight, low-mid light, warm (not hot, not direct sunlight) enviroment.
-if you see a lil mold it’s okay, as long as the root sprouts they’re still viable.
Plants I would Reccomend:
-Peppers are great because they grow quickly, can be canned or stuffed and add a lot to you meals and food. They also don't really take up as much room as some of the other plants i'm about to list. They aren’t the most filling and you cant live off of them but if you want to improve your quality of life or make a lot of money at the end of the world I guarantee you anyone who can actually cook or has the spices and foods to do it is set for life. I would legitimately kill a man for my mom’s pepperoni stuffed pickled peppers. I stabbed my brother over a jar once I am not kidding.
-Pretty much any kind of spice or herb really, I would HIGHLY recommend growing lavender, mint, thyme, and anything lemony or citrus scented, as I mentioned on a previous post, they’re good for pest control. lavender is a very temperamental plant, but most herbs, once ou get them going can be pretty hardy for lil leafs. Also, depending on the amount you’re growing of each most of them don’t take up too much space. Also basil cause it smells nice and I told you to.
-Corn, wheat, and any kind of grain is obviously a good idea if you want bread, but all of them are pretty difficult and require a lot of space. Potatoes are great because they can be used to make bread and alcohol as well.
-Zucchini, eggplants, tomatoes, and summer squash, and pretty much any gourd/melon/squash plant are easy to grow, but keep in mind many of these are expanding and/or vine plants and require a lot of space. They make a lot of food, but tomatoes and cucumbers in particular will actively choke other plants. Like vines wrapping around and leaves growing over top and roots entangling level of choking. Keep apart. but they’re good for you. eggplant, tomato and cucumeber are the highlight here.
-For leafy greens kale and chard are super easy to grow and grow pretty fast. Like any leafy green, too much sunlight will scorch them so be careful. I like to grow chard in an old (was some kinda biohazard barrel my dad stole from some pharmaceutical company, and cleaned out) cause it’s more than deep enough for the roots, but also wide enough to grow plenty. Also kale is high in vit c so if you don't live somewhere tropical you won't die of scurvy :)
-If you plan on raising animals or having a crop FIELD and not a PLOT, then grow long grass into hay, because it is good feed, but can also be used to cover ground to protect from birds. If you sow seeds by yeeting them into the dirt, birds will eat them if you don't cover them and you will die hungry.
-If possible, Alfalfa is also good for animals ( in small quantities) because they like it, or sunflowers. you can eat sunflowers, they produce a lot of seeds adn the seeds can be used as feed. ( same with corn.)
-Mushrooms. can be dried, easy to grow, grow really fast, and can be used as filler for meat dishes. (you can also grow the drug kind because it’s the end of the world and no one is going to stop you)
-tobacco for tabacco
AMNIMALS:
-unless you have a lot of very protected land you’re going to want animals that are small and potentially multipurpose.
-chickens are great because they dont need an exorbitant amount of space, can be used for eggs and meat, their feathers can be used for a number of things, if you dont like eating chicken guts (whats wrong with you) then they can be used as fertilizer, bait or as part of stock, and the bones can also be used for broth or to make small simple tools like needles or pen nibs. However, they actually need a more varied diet then you’d think. if you dont have calcium powder, their own unfertilized crushed up eggs, or scrambled with the shell is good for them once in a while, or chopped up leaves from your plants. Otherwise, a mix of corn and seeds is pretty good. DO NOT feed chickens wheat, oats or bread. Once in a while maybe, as like a super special treat, but too much can be harmful. Also, they eat bugs so they can just be outside if you’re okay with that.
-Goats produce milk, fur/wool (not all breeds do both, most don't do both, actually) and they’re more portable than cows. they also take up less space. A big downside is that goats are not only social animals, but they also need a good bit of stimulation and activity and they can be pretty noisy. My uncle built a jungle gym pyramid for his goats, but be warned, Joe Bob chewed his way out of the barn and needed rescuing from the top of the tower in the middle of a hurricane once. Goats will pretty much eat anything, and their poop is good for compost, Joe Bob and his siblings pretty much live off scraps and they’re happy lil dudes ( ladies actually, Joe Bob is the only boy)
-Rabbits! (the rabbit in raider rabbit is actually because i used to raise rabbits and am fond of them as a farm animal and because nobody can pronouce my name so they just call me Bun but we dont talk about that) probably one of the quietest animals you can keep on a farm, they can be kept in cages, breed quickly, can be used for fur, leather (rabbit and goat leather is great for making paper and cloth, not really good for protective leather) meat, and bones. The biggest issue I can see in the event of a wasteland survival situation is rabbits need a lot of clean water, salt and if you get angouras they pretty much need constant brushing. Be warned, if you dont know how to properly care for and breed them the females will castrate the males or eat her babies :) it is just a traumatizing as it sounds :) I speak from experience :) A good and cheap meat rabbit is the california white rabbit, they're about small to med size, and really simple to look after. Angouras are not great for meat, but their fur makes amazing wool. They eat veggies ( not carrots, too much sugar) oats, hay, their babies, and other leafy greens.
-Quail are something im not super familiar with that was my sibling’s thing, but from what i understand they need less space then chickens, and they’re good meat birds. eggs can be good for feeding other animals, but they’re not really good for much else. Also they’re really fucking loud and will fight each other so maybe not?
-Ducks are a lot like chickens, again, all of them can be eaten or used, and also eggs. eat more leafy greens and stuff and really like having somewhere to swim, better for more open environments. Ducks like to eat a lot and will get really fat really quick ( not a good thing) so be careful. however, if they imprint on you, they will follow you everywhere which makes rounding them up easy.
-Fish are great because their water can be cycled and the yuck water can go to the plants, which is great cause all that fish poop and algae is really good fertilizer. Fish are good for you and I love them. An while they’re not easy to port around, if you feed them micro worms or lil shrimps you can grow their food mostly indefinity and freeze it even. Also ive never heard any fish ( other than that one pufferfish) make noise. keep in mind, you will still have to maintain the water levels and the ph and all that, and they can take up a lot of space.
WHAT METHOD? HOW DO THE FARM? OTHER?
-this is pretty much up to you, I’m a really big fan of hydroponics, but i typically stick to “recycle farming” which is basically using whatever I have on hand and getting creative.
-if you’re going to use a plot of land, its a good idea to make sure you have a fence that goes around, over and under. Pests like groundhogs, rabbits, deer, ghouls, and myself will do more then just walk up and take you plants and animals.
-I recommend quiet animals that can be stored in cages and indoors to avoid larger predators, but any animals will attract them. Bears will break into pens, so if possible either store them INSIDE INSIDE, (like concrete building) or outside in a pen so you dont die.
-Living in the wasteland, or growing up with parents that think it basically is will teach you to utilize anything and everything. bottles and cans are great pots, old trashcans can be used if your dad wont steal chemical barrels from your local pharm plant for you, tires can be shredded into mulch, old rebar is my favorite thing for climbing plants ( sturdy, easy to stick into the ground and remove, pretty source able) Animal parts can be used for fishing bait or fertilizer, corn husks and other dry leaf litter can make good ground cover is hay isn't an option, ect.
-Plastic sheets and table cloths with holes cut in them for the plants are great for vine plants to grow through.
-scarecrows ain’t shit. Most birds are too stupid to notice and the ones that will are smart enough to figure out it’s not real pretty quick so all you’re doing is wasting good clothes and materials and scaring the shit out of yourself when you forget and look out the window and see a giant man in your field. Get a cat.
-it’s the apocalypse. grow weed.
How source plant food?
-poop and leafy plant scraps. animal poop, your own poop, your neighbors poop, poop. plant scraps, leafy greens, peels, rotten material.
-Get a big plastic tub or my favorite stolen barrels and shovel in some dead soil, layer in some plant scrap, dry leaf litter or corn husks, poop, leaf litter, and add creepy crawlies if you can. give a stir or shake every so often.
-avoid flies. as gross as it is, it’s a good idea to keep it warm, moist and humid, so very closed to avoid them.
-you can also add egg shells to give some calcium to your bug buddies.
-corpses.
What do I keep? how do I use it? (animals)
-egg shells are useful for a number of things, dried and nicely crushed they can be used for calcium for other animals. Or protection spells.
-bones for the same thing just don't feed the animals to themselves. I joked about this with the rabbits a bit ( a little cannibalism with them is inevitable and wont hurt them, but still) but cannibalism can lead to a lot of really bad neurological conditions that can harm you as well if you consume their products. Same with chickens, you feeding them scrambled eggs and shells once in a while is good for them, but if they start consistently eating their eggs you need to seperate them for a bit.
-fur and skin are great, esp for tanning, hides can make all kinds of things from paper, to water pouches and other bags, and fabric in general. being able to make cloth and leather is something a lot of people really overlook.
-Bones but for tools. Having a good needle and thread is really underestimated.
-Intestines can be used to make sausage, and other things.
-i will eat the chicken liver if you don't want it but it’s your anemia.
-make jerky/salted meat. both wont last forever, but you dont need to freeze it if you dont have power and will last longer then raw or cooked meat. salt cured meat lasts about 2-3 weeks, so if you’re solo or a small group and you did what i said and got small animals you wont be wasting food, and you dont have to butcher something every day.
-jerky can last a lil longer if stored properly, say it with me now! *air tight containers* you might get a solid month or so out of jerky, and it can mostly be rehydrated, or eaten as is.
-rendered animal fat or tallow makes good cooking oil, and while a little time consuming is not super difficult.
-make butter and cheese, not for survival, but quality of life.
Help I grew to many plants!
-can them, dumbass.
-fr though, canned foods can last a decent amount of time and can be really useful if you live somewhere with a winter, or can farm constantly. I mentioned already, but canned stuffed peppers are a favorite of mine, along with pickled eggs, which I make pretty regularly because a world without pickled eggs is the darkest thing i can imagine.
-feed them to your animals or back to your plants.
-throw them at your friends. (you haven't lived until you’ve hocked a rotten pumpkin at your little brother)
-dry them, fruit leather and veggie chips can be rehydrated and stored even longer than certain canned or preserved foods.
What else?
-learn how to purify water. there’s a million non tech versions, but in a sinch, the boil method is good if you just need to water plants. just dont pour boiling water on your crop.
-do use boiling water for weeds though. you can also feed weeds to your animals, but boiling water is just water, it’s not going to kill the soil or poison you.
-learn to fish and forage, theres a whole lot of things that aren't easy to grow or raise that can be tasty and good for you.
-learn to make fire. be prepared to put out fire. Dry crops will burn for days, so keep them watered, but you need to be able to burn exccess compost and cook.
-farming smells so bad. I love farming but animal poop, rotten veggies, innards, decay and compost, burning compost smells. if you cant stomach it and want the easy way out, thats called starvation or you better be beefy and prepped enough to raid others. or both, gorw your shit and steal from others, i dont care.
-forgot to mention earlier, but fermented foods like kimchi, kombucham etc are really good for you so yea. I might also teach you how to make kombucha cause my mom made me drink it so by god ill make you drink it too. ( i actually love it and it's good for making vinegar.)
-And forgot, legumes, like beans, peanuts, letils etc are really good plant protein. just not fun to grow, (ecept for beans. beans are actually very fun to to grow.)

So as I sit here hyperfixating on LoZ, I got a neat idea which I will probably never try:
Breath of the Wild-inspired scented candles.
I do make candles for a hobby, and they are usually scented, but I'm not really into the soy wax jar candles that are the usual form these things take (and the form in which they occurred to me, ironically), and I'm also not into a lot of the popular scents for candles. I strongly prefer naturalistic floral and herbal/spice scents and tend to avoid fruit (except citrus) and other, less botanical options...but IF I were doing this project, I would suck it up and lean into the trends.
So here's what I came up with. I don't know if all these blends would even work. I think some of them might turn out terrible if they were done IRL. But if I don't put these out into the world then a very specific part of my brain is going to explode from the pressure.
For each candle, the scents are listed in order from strongest to mildest.
Akkala Wilds: Earthy, autumnal, and herbal. Oakwood, rosemary, nutmeg.
Death Mountain: Smoky and spicy. Campfire, cinnamon.
Faron Woods: "Tropical rain forest." Hibiscus, mango, bamboo grass.
Gerudo Town: Elegant and feminine, yet powerful. Rose, cloves, melon.
Great Fairy Fountain: Heavy floral. Orchid/plumeria, lilac, orange blossom.
Hebra Trail: Biting cold. Pine, camphor, raspberry.
Hyrule Field: Grassy and floral. Lavender, lemongrass, apple peel.
Kara Kara Bazaar: Exotic and layered. Ginger, teakwood, cactus blossom.
Korok Forest: Earthy and spring-tinged. Cherry blossom, maple sugar, patchouli.
Lurelin Coast: Warm seaside. Sea salt, coconut, saffron.
Roadside Stable: Homey and rural. Fresh bread, hay, leather.
Shrine of Resurrection: Fresh and invigorating. Eucalyptus, mint, cucumber.
Silent Princess: Light floral. Gardenia, sweet pea, vanilla.
Zora's Domain: Clean and watery. Rain, lotus, lemon.
And finally:
Yiga Clan Hideout: Bananas.

I've been thinking about map possibilities since the very end of 3rd Life, and there's one particular concept that I would give my own arm to see play out.
There's three biomes: Mesa, jungle, and warm ocean. The majority of the map is mesa, with two or three very small pockets of jungle scattered at the edges of the world border. Roughly a fifth of the total map is ocean, specifically a tropical reef.
This changes the game entirely to make it about food. There's options, but they're limited. They can fish, by rod or by sword. They can delve into mineshafts for bread and seeds. They can climb to the top of the mesa and hope there's oak trees for apples. Or, what I feel would be the most popular option, they can fight over the jungle for animal spawning, melon, wheat seeds, and cocoa beans.
It goes without saying that the jungle territories would be snatched up pretty quickly. An ocean outpost would be very cool, since the reef offers access to pufferfish and, well, fish. Building options would be limited, but even without dyes there's good terracotta options. Lack of natural food sources would make it a daunting task to pack up and move shop, as "living off the land" would likely mean "eating zombie flesh and stale mineshaft bread"
Idk, I just think it would be very, very interesting for 3rd Life's third life to be about constant hunger and the endless, desperate search to soothe that burning appetite. It seems appropriate, don't you think?
oh, this is a really interesting thought, especially because third life sort of already had the "fight over a food source" thing what with cows becoming quickly endangered and all. i do like the idea of making food really scarce though that's a very interesting starting twist

Minecraft Food for Offerings
Much like food on the physical world, I'd imagine food in minecraft can be used as offerings for spirits or other entities you work with or want to say thanks to.
I think they're really cool ways to gives to entities and spirits and deities you work with.
Though since you're limited with what food you have in the game, you may not be able to accommodate specific preferences, but I think it's still nice as a possibility.
Tumblr media
Plants and Vegetables
These are all mostly things you can grow from farms you built in your world. Some of these you do have to look for in other dimensions or deeper underground in the Overworld, but I think that makes it more special in a way. • Apple • Potato • Beetroot • Wheat • Carrot • Chorus Fruit • Dried Kelp • Glow Berries • Melon Slice • Sweet Berries • Cocoa Beans
Tumblr media
Mobs
These are all things you can get from passive mobs in the world. Some through killing them, and some from just being carefully taking a bottle or a bucket from them. I'd imagine you could put some of these on a campfire to cook, as if letting the smell of the smoke reach to the one you're offering them to. • Chicken • Egg • Cod • Mutton • Porkchop • Rabbit • Salmon • Honey Bottle • Beef • Tropical Fish • Milk Bucket
Tumblr media
Crafting
These are all things to need to use your crafting menu or the bench to make. I'm not really a kitchen witch, but I'd like to think going the additional step to make these has a nice homey feel to it for whoever's receiving it. • Mushroom Stew • Rabbit Stew • Suspicious Stew • Sugar • Glistening Melon • Golden Carrot • Bread • Cake • Pumpkin Pie • Cookie • Beetroot Soup • Golden Apple
Tumblr media
Loot
Probably the most unique and hardest thing to get, since you can't craft these anymore in the recent versions of Minecraft. You have to search through loot tables and potentially risk your life to get it, but I think it'll be a cool way to dedicate it to who you're offering it to. • Enchanted Golden Apple

Maillard Poblacion: A Charming New Restaurant Offering Filipino Twists to Western Cuisine
We recently visited a new restaurant in Poblacion, Makati serving a different kind of fusion cuisine. Our afternoon was filled with salads, pasta, paella, and steak featuring both Western and Filipino influences and flavors. That's why I couldn’t stop myself from trying out all the specialties here at Maillard Poblacion.
Maillard Poblacion opened its doors last February 5, 2023 in a more private and quiet residential area of Baranggay Poblacion in Makati City. Located at the corner of Gloria Street and Jacobo Streets, this charming location is now the next dining destination for friends, families, and even romantic dates.
The exact address may not be so easy to find, especially if you are not from that area, but simply enter Maillard Restaurant on Waze and it will lead you straight to this corner. The restaurant is open daily from 11am to 11pm.
Maillard got its name from the chemical reaction that happens to cooked food that gives it brown colors and complex flavors. The name is indicative of the myriad flavors that you can expect to encounter when dining here.
The restaurant can accommodate 50 guests on its two floors. The ground floor has a smaller bar area and this is also where you can find the open kitchen.
The second floor houses the main dining area with plush leather seats on one side adorned with pop culture artwork. They also have a private dining area that opens up to a balcony overlooking the residential areas below.
I came here last week with some of my foodie friends and we were really impressed with the quality of the dishes they presented. It was a fun afternoon spent with amazing food and new discoveries.
We started with some refreshing beverages like the Melon Cucumber (P145) and the Pineapple Blueberry (P145). They also have beers and alocholic items like the Hoegaarden Rosée (P245).
The complimentary focaccia bread was great sign of things to come. These soft garlicky breads were served with balsamic vinegar and it’s impossible to have just one piece because they were really good.
One of our pretty appetizers was the Tuna Poke (P480). It came with fresh tuna slices marinated in their homemade poke sauce with cherry tomatoes. My only complaint was that I wanted a bigger serving of this.
We also had a sample of their interesting salads and greens. The Burrata and Grilled Eggplants (P645) has Burrata cheese paired with grilled eggplants, Zucchini and cherry tomatoes tossed in pesto vinaigrette.
Their Grilled Prawn Tropical Salad (P495) is honestly one of the best salads I have ever had. It comes with fresh greens tossed in citrus vinaigrette topped with big juicy cuts of grilled prawn. We actually thought these were lobster slices because they were huge! It also comes with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and orange.
There’s also the Grilled Chicken Salad (P495) for those who want a meaty and healthy salad. These grilled chicken breast cuts are tossed with salad greens in their homemade caesar dressing and topped with shaved parmesan.
One of Maillard Poblacion’s signature dishes is the Pasta Mechado (P595). This is the chef’s family heirloom recipe that he proudly features at Maillard. The Filipino mechado is deconstructed into a Western pasta with its slow-simmered beef brisket braised in tomato sauce and spices. It’s a unique combination that actually works!
I also liked their Prawn & Clams Spaghetti (P545). This is Maillard’s version of the vongole with its seafood items steamed and sautéed in good olive oil, chiles, garlic confit and spices drizzled with homemade pesto oil.
For our main dishes, we tried the Grilled Tuna (P845) which was grilled medium rare and paired with Mediterranean couscous salad tossed with almonds, dried apricots, prunes, and chimichurri.
We also had their Pork Sisig which is a kapampangan specialty. Their version of sisig does not include liver and I actually like it better that way.
It’s a trip from East to West as Maillard Poblacion shows us the range of their menu. This time it’s the American favorite Cheeseburger served with potato crisps. The thick and juicy patty was quite filling and it should satisfy any burger lover.
One of the highlights that afternoon was the Paella de Poblacion (P1495) which is Maillard’s version of the seafood paella. This huge serving is filled with prawns, clams, mussels, squid, plus chorizo and is made using local rice. I love the combination of all these seafood items in one dish.
Of course, as a certified steak lover, my own favorite was obviously the USDA Choice Ribeye Steak (P2495). This gorgeous steak can be cooked from rare to well-done and is paired with sautéed vegetables, garlic, and mushrooms.
Our steak was cooked medium and it was just heavenly! It came with a savory steak sauce that you can pour on the beef. You can also order sides to go with your steak including Mashed Potatoes (P175), Steak Rice (P175), Mac and Cheese (P185) and others.
Maillard Poblacion also features a respectable wine list so you can order a glass of red wine to pair with your premium steak.
Lastly, end your meals on a sweet note with these colorful desserts. The Apple Crumble Pie (P395) is another fusion of East and West as it is topped with kesong puti ice cream. There’s also the Blueberry Cheesecake (P355) with its thick and creamy cheesecake.
We would like to thank the owners and staff of Maillard Poblacion for letting us experience their own brand of Filipino fusion cuisine. There are so many outstanding dishes that we sampled so I highly recommend this place for those who want to try something new. They are planning to introduce cocktails on the menu and may be featuring degustation dinners as well in the near future, so we are definitely looking forward to that. Congratulations Maillard Poblacion on your successful opening!

16 Vegetables That Start With W
Tumblr media
There are so many amazing veggies that start with the letter W, it’s hard to figure out where to even begin! We could talk about watercress or winter squash. But those are too easy. How about wasabi? It’s a type of horseradish that is popular in Japanese cuisine. There’s also winged bean – a type of legume that is popular in Southeast Asia. Whatever is your reason to go looking for a list of vegetables that start with W, you have come to the right place. Ready to go explore?
Winter Squash
Tumblr media
Winter squash includes pumpkins, butternut squash, acorn squash and spaghetti squash. They are orange or yellow inside with tough skins and meaty flesh. The seeds are removed from the skins of winter squash to be cooked in a variety of ways. When buying winter squash look for ones that have shiny surfaces that feel hard with no soft spots or wrinkles. Winter squashes can last for months at a time if stored in a cool, dry place.
Wasabi
Tumblr media
Wasabi is known for being spicy. However, it can also be found in paste form that is used as a condiment. Usually it is served with sushi and sashimi. Wasabi paste can be added to mayonnaise or peanut butter for a spicy sandwich spread. It can also be added to soups and eggs for a flavor boost. Wasabi comes from the root of the wasabi plant and is commonly sold as ground powder or in dried leaves that are then crushed or grated. When buying ground wasabi, look for cans of powder without artificial coloring or preservatives.
Water Chestnut
Tumblr media
Water chestnuts are often used in Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine. They have a white exterior and a firm, crunchy interior. While buying water chestnuts, look for ones that are heavy for their size. Water chestnuts have a sweet flavor and are often eaten raw or in salads. They add crunch to stir-fries and can be added to soups. It is used for its flavor and texture.
Water Caltrop
Tumblr media
Water caltrops are also called “water chestnuts” and “boat melons.” They are a type of water plant that grows in the pond or river. Water caltrop is peeled, boiled, and sometimes added to Asian soups and salads. The water caltrop has a hairy, brown exterior. The flesh is white and crisp but can be hard to find in the U.S. It is used for its texture and for the flavor it imparts. As a condiment, water caltrops are often added to Asian dishes.
Water Spinach
Tumblr media
Water spinach (sometimes called “Gogi”) is another vegetable loved by some and hated by others. The plant grows in wet or swampy areas across the tropical world. It was first brought to the United States in 1914. Water spinach is now a popular ingredient in Asian cooking, often added to green salads or served stir-fried with garlic and ginger. Water spinach is high in nutrients and that makes it a good choice for vegetarians.
Walking Onions
Tumblr media
Walking onions are a type of onion that grows in clusters similar to grapes. You can find these onions in some supermarkets. Look for them at farmers’ markets, too. Walking onions can be eaten just like any other onion. The green tops can be eaten as well. They are stronger flavored than most other types of onions. Walking onions often pair with beef and pork dishes.
Winter Gourd
Tumblr media
Winter gourd is also called “Bitter Melon” because of its very bitter skin. There are many different varieties, with some having hard skins and others being very soft. Bitter melon can be fried or roasted like squash or eggplant. It can also be pickled, used in soups and stews, or eaten raw in salads. I use bitter melon in the stir-fried bitter gourd and minced pork recipe.
Wheatgrass
Tumblr media
Wheatgrass is a popular green juice. It comes from the grass on wheat plants. It is used to make bread, pasta, and other products. It has become popular for many people. It is known for its high levels of chlorophyll and other nutrients. The taste of wheatgrass juice can be bitter but it is often sweetened with fruits and juices to improve the taste. Wheatgrass can be blended into smoothies, added to salads, or juiced and consumed straight. Wheatgrass can be purchased fresh at grocery stores or ordered online from juice companies.
Wild Garlic
Tumblr media
Wild garlic has a very strong flavor that many people dislike. It grows in clumps on the ground and is a member of the onion family. It can be found in most parts of North America. Wild garlic can be eaten by itself or used to season meats and other foods. The flavor is strong and sweet, so it is often cooked in small doses. It can be cooked with meats like bacon, duck, lamb, or pork.
Watercress
Tumblr media
Watercress is a vegetable that gets its name from the type of water it grows in. It grows in streams, ponds, and other bodies of water. Its leaves are green or purple on top and white underneath. They are very small, growing to be only two inches long. Watercress is a “superfood” since it is high in nutrients. The flavor can be a bit peppery with a hint of mustard and an onion-like aftertaste. Watercress can be chopped up and added to soups or salads or used as garnish for sandwiches or sushi rolls.
Wax Beans
Tumblr media
Wax beans are a variety of green beans. They are cream-colored or yellowish along their middles with a dark green spot at the tip. Wax beans are very popular in the United States and China. They can be eaten raw in salads, added to soups and casseroles, or cooked with other vegetables and meats. Wax beans can also be shelled and eaten as a snack or used to make dips like hummus.
Welsh Onion
Tumblr media
Welsh onions are a kind of onion that grows in clusters. It has a mild garlic flavor, making it popular with seafood and cheese lovers. It is very popular in the United States and Europe. To grow Welsh onions, onions are planted in spring and harvested during the fall months. They can be eaten raw or used in soups, stews, and casseroles.
White Radish
Tumblr media
White radishes are actually a type of turnip. They have a thick, fleshy root that is white in color and takes on the color of whatever it’s cooked with. Radishes are full of nutrients, which make it popular with health-conscious individuals. Radishes can be eaten raw or cooked into soups, stews, and casseroles. I use it in a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup.
Wild Endive
Tumblr media
Wild endive is a type of chicory that is popular in the United States, Europe, and elsewhere. It can be found at farmers’ markets and some stores that specialize in natural foods. Wild endive has a bitter taste when eaten raw but it is said to have a mellow texture that pairs well with stronger flavors in meat dishes. The leaves can be eaten raw or cooked like spinach.
Wild Leek
Tumblr media
Wild leeks are a type of leek that grows wild and are considered a weed. They have long white stems that look like lilies. They grow low to the ground, making them tough to harvest. Wild leeks have white roots that resemble celery and taste like an onion with a hint of garlic. It is one of the most commonly used vegetables in many European countries. The flavor is enough to make your stomach turn, but it is mild and can be eaten raw or cooked into soups, stews, and casseroles. There are many types of wild leeks, some with purple stems like the ramps and some with leaves similar to lettuce.
Winged Bean
Tumblr media
Winged beans are a type of bean that grows on vines in the tropics. They are often used in Asian cooking. The beans can be eaten raw or cooked into soups, stews, stir-fries, and curries. Winged beans have a tangy flavor that combines well with basil, cilantro, coconut milk, garlic, prawns, and shrimp. They are often used as a substitute for broad beans and soybeans in curries and stir-fries. This vegetable is popular among Asian countries and is easy to cook at home with its bright color that attracts attention even in an exotic dish like curry or stew.   This was our comprehensive list of Vegetables That Start With X. Have you tried any from this list? Let me know in the comments section. The post 16 Vegetables That Start With W appeared first on Real Menu Prices. Read the full article

What Products Are Available in the Best Dispensary Near Me?
“What products are available in the best dispensary near me?” As an herb-lover, you’ve likely pondered about this way too many times already. Some of you may have found the perfect answer, but a lot of you reading this probably still haven’t. If you’re living in the Los Angeles area, there isn’t one simple answer to this question. A quick Google search will lead you to a long list of places, none of which you’re familiar with. So we’ve taken it upon ourselves to give you more of a closer look at one of the best dispensaries in your area if you do live in LA. Based on this short article, hopefully, you’ll see why that is. Buds No dispensary can exist without a selection of fine buds. They’re the bread-and-butter of the whole operation, and it’s what sets your reputation as a trusted dispensary. With us at Cannazon, you can expect a variety of top-quality and potent flowers to choose from. And when we say potent, we mean buds with THC levels that go as high as 29% THC. We also have classic favorites such as the Wedding Cake, Super Silver Haze, and Pineapple OG, just to name a few. Bottom line, you will never run out of choices. Pre-Rolls Time is a precious commodity, and it’s understandable to want an added convenience, even with your cannabis products. That’s what pre-rolled joints bring to the table. Especially if you’re not capable of rolling a decent spliff, this one is for you. Our pre-rolls aren’t your normal joints. Some of our products come with flavors to add more to the experience. Once you start shopping with us, you wouldn’t want just any other joint. Edibles Likewise, we have a delectable edible selection to satisfy your cravings. While we don’t have your usual space cakes on our menu, we do have gummies in different flavors like raspberry and watermelon. But if you prefer a more refreshing option, check out our list of weed-infused beverages. Choose from different variants like sparkling lemon, wild berry, grapefruit, and tropical mango. And we do our apple juices a little differently. Concentrates For those who want to take things to the next level, we also have a list of concentrates to offer. Ocean Empire Crop Calendar
Tumblr media
[Grimlands] [House Blossom] [Gilded Helianthia]
detailed thoughts (and information about crops depicted) under the cut
Jute Mallow isalso known as „bitter melon“ „bitter apple“ „bitter squash“ and bcountries specified as lying in the tropical zone (dependent on the list there might be more or less), I chose to look at the south-east Asian countries of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, the last being my main point of comparison.
The problem with the ocean empire is that it seems to have extremely limited planting ground (not taking into account soil under the ocean), meaning that most crops aren't really plantable.
In the beginning, I thought this was it, the ocean empire would have to live off fish, seafood and seaweed, but then I found hope.
This article talked about salt water rice, and while this example is made through human gene mutation, I'll assume that it naturally exists in the ocean empire.
Furthermore, we see lily pads being used a lot in the ocean empire, which his helpful, as (almost) the entirety of it is edible. Not only that, but the seeds can be ground into flour, meaning we have more options for filling foods such as bread. (There are no regular planting or harvesting seasons, as they just die back to their roots and then regrow later and different harvestable parts get harvested at different points in the year, so I just made a rough estimate based on the flowering time of the lilies) (out of context but one can make silk out of lotus flowers meaning that silk clothing made out of lotus flowers would be worn)
Seaweed itself would be growable almost everywhere where a water height of ca. 6 metres is present, and they are harvestable every 45-60 days (sources differ). The main harvest season spans January June.
Halophytes or salt-loving plants, form another big category of plants that could be planted. There are 3 sorts of halopythes, but we will only focus on Aqua-halines and then the subgroups of Hydro-halophytes (whole or almost whole plant remains under water) and Emerged Halophytes (most of the stem remains above the water level).
Most plants with the prefix „sea“ don‘t actually grow in the sea, as I sadly had to learn. But they are more salt tolerant than other plants which is why I will include some of them.
One of the best known ones is Salicornia. Salicornia europaea (underwater asparagus or sea pickles) is completely edible raw and cooked. Salicornia bigelovii is an oil crop, reaching about 60cm In height. Salicornia brachiata can be made into a culinary salt (substitute). They grow year round, but are planted in the “colder“ months of the year, meaning the cold dry period between December/November and February/March.
Now I thought the crop calendar looked pretty sad wit’s just those few plants, so I looked at foods commonly grown in The Philippines and picked some examples as things that could be grown on the little overwater soil they have.
I believe that on the shorelines of the little land they do have, people would plant sugarcane. It can be used as both a sweetener and just an ingredient for normal cooking. The harvest and planting seasons do overlap, which is why the crop calendar shows two rows instead of one.
Ampalaya, also known as „bitter melon“ „bitter apple“ „bitter squash“ and “balsam pear“ is a vine that produces a fruit, that is pretty bitter. It takes between 80 and 120 days to grow (differs based on sunlight sensitivity)
Kangkong or “water spinach“ is a form of spinach. It grows extremely quickly (just thirty days) and starts flowering in October. It is technically plantable year round, but as the seeds only mature by end of April and the plants are uprooted at the end of harvesting season, I assumed that they could only be planted after April (this could of course be altered by saving seeds or planting Kangkong off season)
Jute Mallow is a leafy plant with a slimy texture (similair to that of okra).
Pechay or „Chinese cabbbage“ is a cabbage. It has two main harvest seasons, one set in the “ideal“ season meaning the hot wet season and one in the cold dry off season.
String beans are a type of green bean.
Conclusion: The majority of the Ocean‘s empires cuisine would be based around rice, seaweed, various halophytes, and water lilies. However, the little overwater soil they do have allows for them to have a wide selection of vegetables, fruits and spices.
