Synopsis: Adaptation of the 7th volume of the series.
Review Proper
I'm not sure what's gonna end first: the series or my fucking life.
Tumblr media
As much as I love Saezuru, it's gone on for so long that it's starting to get old literally and figuratively. You know, I wouldn't even be mad if Yoneda Kou ended the series by killing Yashiro off in 6. 7 is still well-written to a point and the BLCD did deserve to rank second AGAIN in chil-chil 2022, but I'm not sure about the future of this series (it wasn't nominated in 2023 tho which is one of the few good things about 2023's).
I say a lot of things, but I'm still invested in vol. 7 & 8.
Tumblr media
I don't know who I'm jealous of, BUT THAT SHOULD BE ME! This scene is in vol 8, not 7, but I wanted to include it anyway.
I do agree that Saezuru portrayal of the whole yakuza deal is the realest 'cause happy endings over there are quite rare, but this isn't a novel that comes out in one go. Doesn't help that June is ass. I've heard from several friends who've read the latest releases that it feels like it's lost its way and that just makes me sad. I'm still hopeful tho.🤧
As I've already stated, this placed second in 2022's awards. I mean, it's Saezuru. Frontier doesn't spare a penny for it lmao. All the major characters are voiced, and they managed to bring the A-listers back again. Sometimes, I forget that Saezuru is actually based on a manga whenever I listen to the BLCDs 'cause the production is just that good.
Shingaki slayed as usual. I've said this many times before, but no matter how bad or how well he does in another role, he will always be Yashiro. I just came from Tsunaida and we're in the middle of a Rei event in Nu:carnival, so I would expect myself to adjust to Yashiro, but I didn't need any of that lmao. Yashiro is truly Shingaki's magnum opus. I'm not at all surprised that he placed 3rd best seiyuu for Yashiro. Deserved.
Speaking of Nu:carnival, I will forever be obsessed with Yashiro's relationship with the other characters aside from Doumeki. Nanahara's voiced by my one true love, Okitsu, but like Yashiro, I love him for his character and not his voice. It is nice having the other veterans in here with him, too. The slut trio is complete with Daddy Complex SatoTaku, Boss Ass Chaser Okitsu, and Damel in Distress Shingaki. #BLESS I want Kamiya to end up with Nanahara.
I haven't heard Wacchan in years HAHAHAHAHA. His Doumeki is still amazing as always. My issues with the story aside, I'm really looking forward to his "break" in vol. 8. EEEEEEE
Special mention to my Ryuuzaki and Miyake Kenta who made their comebacks here too. I missed him so much! LMAO
The BLCD is pretty accurate to the... magazine at least, but June does sell the translated tanko (fortunately). Like the previous installments, reading the manga while listening to the BLCD was so smooth because it was so accurate. Now 7 does end in a cliffhanger, so I don't really advise listening to it if you still don't have 8. But if cliffhangers aren't an issue for you, then break a leg!

Super Robot Rollcall: The Nadesico Crew of The Past
Yurika Misumaru
Tumblr media
"You can't tell people fighting on the frontlines, people who don't know if they'll even return alive, that they don't have the right to know anything!"
Source Material: Martian Successor Nadesico Age: 20 Height: 166 cm Hobbies: Jigsaw puzzles, singing Favorite Food: Anything sweet Voice Actress: Houko Kuwashima Character Designer: Keiji Gotoh
Yurika Misumaru is the seemingly airheaded captain of the Nadesico. Between her difficulties adhering to social norms and her fervent affections for Akito, it's easy to think that's all there is to her, but in truth, she's a combat genius, and passed military academy with frightening scores. When everyone's back is to the wall, she's liable to make up for her lack of experience with her tactical gifts to create miracles.
Tumblr media
Much like with Noin, her stats do not reflect her canonical skills, being painfully middling even for battleship captain standards. SRW R hates to see a girlboss winning.
Her spirit commands are fairly decent, however, with a lot of fringe support utility that you won't find in many other learnsets, which is especially handy to have on a unit that's gonna be forcibly deployed most of the time.
Fun Fact: She has a near photographic memory, and seems to have a knack for linguistics.
Nadesico
Tumblr media
Source Material: Martian Successor Nadesico Length: 300 meters Power Source: 2 Phase Shift Engines, 4 Nuclear Pulse Engines Real World Designer: Rei Nakahara
A civilian battleship designed by Nergal which far outclassed anything the Earth military had in their possession at the time. This fact, coupled with the fact that it was heading for Mars for a seemingly suicidal rescue mission while the Earth Sphere was embroiled in the bloody Lizard War created a lot of enmity between Nergal and the military, leading to a lot of the conflicts early into the story.
Tumblr media
It's the Nadesico B if it had missiles (meaning it's not completely EN dependent). I don't know what you want me to say here, it certainly is a battleship.
...If i'm gonna be a bit more charitable, it is fairly funny that when you think about it, this thing is a straight upgrade over the B, which is meant to be a successor to this thing.
Fun Fact: The Nadesico is an amalgamation of quite possibly the three most iconic space battleships in japanese sci-fi nerd culture at the time the show came out; its large, flat upper hull is reminiscent of Star Trek's Enterprise, the protuding "legs" are a homage to Mobile Suit Gundam's White Base, and the Gravity Cannon is obviously evocative of the Yamato's Wave Motion Gun, to say nothing of how the two names combined form Yamato Nadeshiko, a name emblematic of the idealized "japanese beauty".

Akito Tenkawa
Tumblr media
"I finally watched the last episode of Gekiganger V."
Source Material: Martian Successor Nadesico Age: 18 Height: 175 cm Favorite Food: Earth cuisine Voice Actor: Yuuji Ueda Character Designer: Keiji Gotoh
A cook who felt completely aimless in life. He lost his previous life on Mars, he lost his job due to his PTSD from his experiences with the Jovian Lizards' assaults on Mars, and through a series of convoluted circumstances, he ended up landing a cooking job on the Nadesico... only to be further roped into being a pilot as well.
Throughout it all, the few things anchoring him were Gai, Gekiganger, and Yurika. His struggles to balance these influences on him with his dreams, ideals and values are the crux of the story of Nadesico. He loses sight of himself multiple times, but in the end, he manages to come out of it with a better understanding of both himself and the things he holds dear.
He pilots the pink Aestivalis unit.
Tumblr media
Akito and Gai are very much a set. Akito has a more Real-oriented spirit learnset, better Evasion and worse Defense, but better Ranged... sadly, since the aforementioned Double Gekigan Flare is gonna consistently be his best move, it's easy to consider Akito to be a simple add-on to Gai, and he doesn't really feel like a protagonist for much of the game.
Even so, as the game progresses, he'll get a few ways to differentiate his playstyle, and by the end, both him and Gai will be a lot more interesting... though ultimately, you'll still realistically need Gai (who can actually draw out the full power of the DGF thanks to his higher Melee stat) if you want to use Akito to his fullest. It's easy to joke then that Gai is the real protagonist of Nadesico in this game, but in my opinion, we haven't yet encountered the character who truly takes up the mantle of Nadesico protagonist in SRW R...
Ryoko Subaru
Tumblr media
"Did i just find it...? My own evening star..."
Source Material: Martian Successor Nadesico Age: 18 Height: 165 cm Hobbies: Basketball, motorcycles Voice Actress: Chisa Yokoyama Character Designer: Keiji Gotoh
Daughter of a military man, Ryoko is a confident pilot with the skills to back it up, but she struggles with social situations, and can find it hard to act formal.
She's the leader of the trio consisting of her, Hikaru and Izumi (often called the Buttercup trio, as the Aestivalis is named after the Adonis aestivalis, a member of the buttercup family).
She pilots the red Aestivalis unit.
she's also really cute
Tumblr media
Gameplaywise, Ryoko is like a midway point between Akito and Gai. Her Melee and Ranged stats are perfectly balanced, and her defensive stats are on par with Akito's, but she has the upper hand in the Skill department. The biggest issue with her though is that much like Akito and Gai have their combination move, she and the other two girls have a combination move... which primarily uses the Ranged stat. As such, you'd really want for her to have higher Ranged, rather than the balanced loadout she has here, which seems to be an attempt to make her better on her own than the other two, but just isn't impactful enough when Aestis are so underwhelming without their combination partners.
Still, she's far from a bad pilot; you just wouldn't really want to deploy her without her two squadmates.
Fun Fact: This is less of a "factual" one and more an experience report, but. I went with her route in the first Nadesico Sega Saturn game because of course i did, which has a mechanic where you can take the girls out on dates to the Nadesico's holodeck and live out a little romantic fantasy scenario. But for some reason, Ryoko seems to have glitched for me, and every single time that she initiated a date, without fail, she'd pick the castaway scenario, over and over and over again.
Tumblr media
maybe she just really liked The Blue Lagoon
Hikaru Amano
Tumblr media
"I learned the hard way that hobbies and romance don't mix..."
Source Material: Martian Successor Nadesico Age: 18 Height: 152 cm Favorite Food: Pizza crust Voice Actress: Shiho Kikuchi Character Designer: Keiji Gotoh
A quirky girl who's really into anime and manga, being a fan of Gekiganger herself (though never really talking about it much with Akito nor Gai). She's a doujinshi artist and writer (remember, doujinshi here just means fanwork), who plans to break into professionally making manga.
She easily falls for 2D men, is a bit of a fujoshi, and seems to have gone through a bad breakup not too long before the show began.
She pilots the Yellow Aestivalis unit.
Tumblr media
In terms of raw stats, Hikaru's a really good Aesti pilot. Her spirit commands, while not amazing, are also more than serviceable. If i had a complaint, it's that like Ryoko, she really needs the other two to function, and even moreso than Ryoko, as her second strongest move, the Distortion Punch, is Melee-based. But if you're deploying all three, she's rather powerful.
Izumi Maki
Tumblr media
"I'm a woman who only causes misfortune..."
Source Material: Martian Successor Nadesico Age: 18 Height: 177 cm Favorite Food: Botamochi, inari sushi Hobby: Bad puns Voice Actress: Miki Nagasawa Character Designer: Keiji Gotoh
A patented Weird Girl, she's a gloomy-looking young woman of few words. Usually, she only ever speaks up to make a terrible pun related to something that was just said, but she's not just gloomy-looking; she seems to have had quite the unlucky past, though she doesn't outwardly dwell on it very often.
She pilots the Turquoise Aestivalis unit.
Tumblr media
Much like with Hikaru, Izumi is clearly meant to be deployed as a set with the other two. Only real notable difference to point out here is that Izumi has slightly better offensive stats and slightly worse defensive ones than Ryoko.
Fun fact: The second Sega Saturn Nadesico game (The Blank of 3 Years) reveals that Izumi enjoys... dressing in a ninja costume and jumping around in the woods in the middle of the night. Just for fun.
Tumblr media
yeah sure why not
Aestivalis
Tumblr media
Source: Martian Successor Nadesico Height: 8 meters Power Source: Gravity Wave Antenna, backup generator Real World Designer: Mika Akitaka
A modular machine made by Nergal, made to work in conjunction with its line of battleships. Thanks to cooperation between the machine and its mothership, the weight of a dedicated generator doesn't need to be taken into account, and Aestivalis units are capable of formidable versatility thanks to their various frames.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you're coming from other games, you basically get the gist of how Aestis work. Pretty good survivability, pretty underwhelming firepower unless they can fire off their combination moves.
Of note, however, is the Artillery Frame, which i feel is particularly strong in this game; though its Mobility and Movement Range are just as bad as always, and it has no post-movement attacks, it manages to make up for it with decent firepower, and perhaps more importantly, there are a lot of maps in this game where you can get away with turtling on base tiles. It's also a tempting way to use Hikaru and Izumi's high Ranged stats without having to deploy all three of them, but don't get too used to that; you won't actually get to keep these to the end of the game. Not as they are right now, anyway.
Another thing of note is the lack of a Ground Frame; as a result, against land-based opponents, Aestis will really struggle to deal damage unless you're using the Artillery frames.
Fun fact: In flower language, the Adonis aestivalis can stand for bittersweet or unforgettable memories.

Hi, it is me! It has been a while since I posted something here, and I know why. Every time I see my deceased cat's picture, my heart feels like it's being pinched. I still love her and would sometimes imagine she comes out of the bushes that she always played in.
Even this morning, I recalled her when feeding her siblings.
The past is the past. And although it could never be repeated, we can remember it. Ironically, the past is the theme I bring up in my current novel, Tiny Memory.
Tumblr media
It's initially a re-write project from two novels I wrote somewhere between 2013 and 2015 with a slightly different plot. The first novel entitled Kiss My Heart, a story revolved around Sakamoto Naoki, who had a crush on his childhood friend Furuta Yuuji, who dated his senior colleague Ueda Kenji. The second novel was Time Capsule, which told a story about Ueda Kenji, who can't stop feeling guilty about the death of his friend Hara Kaoru and for causing Takada Kenta, who is Kaoru's brother, to suffer from amnesia.
Even though Tiny Memory is a combination of these two novels, I ended up excluding Kenta from it because I think his character is much like Sakamoto's.
The reason I came out with this idea is simply because I love a spin-off. You know, it's when the side characters got a story about them and became the major of a series. If you had read Tiny Memory, you'll notice that it included Hasegawa as Sakamoto's friend from middle school and Daichi as his colleague in Mokachino. And indeed, they were born as spin-off characters from the previous novels.
So now, I want to focus on Tiny Memory for a little longer before I move to a story about Hasegawa and Daichi.
Alright, that's all for today. Until then!

Ahhhh, look what came for me in the mail earlier today!!! 😍💓 Thank you to D.C. Douglas, I love this so much!! And I love him! What a genuinely kind VA.
When I got into HxH over a year ago, I thought it would be so cool to meet him in person and get his autograph. But now I have it, ahh I'm so giddy over it!!! D.C. is offering autographs and other things on his online store since he can't participate in any conventions this year. Being able to check off another life goal so early on my list is a blessing. ❤
I can only hope D.C. Douglas knows and understands just how much I love his sweet Shoot, how much he truly means the world to me. 💓 I want to give this Shoot autograph such a big smooch!!!!!

Which va will make you poor if they ever voiced a playable genshin impact character?
1. If Dainsleif (Tsuda Kenjiro; Nanami) ever get playable 2. Same case but with less probability: playable Abyss Lector. I have a strange fondness for Nakata Jouji ever since he played Kirei in Fate lol 3. Fukuyama Jun! This lame pun-loving old man is my favorite seiyuu 4. A lot of FSN seiyuu are hired by Genshin so I'm pretty sure there will be a Suwabe Junichi (Sukuna) character in the future 5. Since we already have Zakki (Mahito) in the game, I'd love more of the younger gen male seiyuu: Enojun (Yuuji), Yuuma (Megumi), Hanae Natsuki, Yamashita Daiki, Okamoto Nobuhiko. 6. In terms of female casts, most of female seiyuu I'd love to hear was already in the game; Takahashi Rie (Hu Tao), Ueda Kana (Yoimiya), Aoi Yuuki (Lumine), Sawashiro Miyuki (Raiden Shogun), Kawasumi Ayako (Shen he). The only one that I can think I want to get in the game is Sakamoto Maaya

HOT OR NOT: Jean Havoc, Simon Blackquill, Itachi, Kamui Woods
In order of Notness to Hotness:
Uchiha Itachi - Sorry buddy, your martyred Big Bro vibes have left you unfuckable.
Simon Blackquill - Not familiar with the character. Googled pics. He’s pretty, but looks like an edgelord, which is distinctly Not Hot.
Kamui Woods - Well mannered, seems like a nice dude. Wears a short-sleeved turtleneck, both of which launch him well into Hot territory, but then we have
Jean Havoc
Tumblr media
The world salutes your contribution to black turtleneck sluts everywhere, Lieutenant Havoc. Also in Brotherhood he’s voiced by Ueda Yuuji, which is 👌👌👌

I’ve been looking all over the Internet for a cast list of this game, but came up with nothing (really, people?). So I figured I’d make one myself! Aoi Yuuki, Asami Shimoda, Marina Inoue, Megumi Han and Yukari Tamura are the only women I’ve found so far that play both male and female characters. 2. Listen to the differences between Taishi Murata’s characters. His range never ceases to amaze... the only English voice actors with similar ranges (that I know of) are Ben Diskin and Sean Chiplock. 3. On the female side, Umeka Shouji has a surprisingly large range. I’ve mostly heard her play deeper-voiced roles, and then Corona shows up... 4. I love Hiro Shimono’s evil laugh. He doesn’t go all out with Loki, but he sounds like an insane seagull when he does. 5. As a mythology fangirl, I’m a little annoyed by all the changes. Frey, Mani and Vali are supposed to be male; Skuld is supposed to be a Norn (with Verdandi and Urd); Hel, Fenrir and Jormungand are supposed to be Loki and Angrboda’s kids; Idun is supposed to be Bragi’s wife; Thrud is supposed to be Thor’s daughter and Magni and Modi his sons. I’ll update this “lore correction” once I find more characters.

Flower Troupe Top Star Asumi Rio’s retirement press conference
So you know how I said I wasn’t going to post on Fridays for a while unless there was a major news event...
This article was published on Sankei West on March 13, 2019. Check the original article for photos.
Flower Troupe Top Star Asumi Rio’s retirement press conference
Takarazuka Revue Flower Troupe Top Star Asumi Rio, who announced that she would be retiring as of November 24, held a press conference in Osaka on the 13th. Asumi declared “I’ve come to love Takarazuka even more. Until the very end, I want to continue to develop as the otokoyaku I always yearned to be, and give everything I have onstage to make Flower Troupe an even better troupe.” During the press conference, despite tearing up many times, she looked forward with determination.
Asumi, who was wearing a pure white pants suit, was in tears from her first greeting. “Thank you so much for coming today, everyone,” she said, her voice shaking.
She is retiring after a long 5 and a half year period as Top Star. She said that the truth was “the junior actresses are all giving their all, too. I felt from early on that if I stayed there forever it might make everyone feel a bit awkward.”
Around that time, she was able to have her greatest experience as an actor with her highly acclaimed role in last year’s The Poe Family. “I just gave myself over to the role, and somehow naturally it felt like the whole troupe was moving forward together. I feel like [my character of] Edgar might have miraculously let me calm down and look at the rest of the troupe. I thought ‘They’ll be okay even if I’m not here’,” she said.
At the same time, her performance partner, Senna Ayase, who will be retiring as of April 28th, informed her of her intentions to retire. Therefore, she determined to see Senna off before her own retirement. “I think there are fans who would have wanted the two of us to retire together. But since she really did so much for me--” her voice became choked with tears. “Like the other musumeyaku who have been by my side supporting me until now, I wanted her to be the star and sparkle in her farewell show, and I wanted to send her off like a princess. I was so happy to see her like that.”
She informed her comrades in the troupe on March 10th, the day before the final [Takarazuka Grand Theatre] performance of CASANOVA. Since she had been in the position for so long, “I’m sure everyone felt like it was coming sooner or later, so most likely it didn’t come as that much of a surprise, but when I told them everyone cried…” she said, starting to cry again as she remembered. “It made me happy that they would cry so much for me. I felt so much love for them I could hardly bear it.”
She revealed her plans to her classmate and Top Star of Snow Troupe, Nozomi Fuuto, at the time of last year’s Takarazuka Special in December. “[I told her] since it was a dressing room for just the two of us. I started crying…” she said, thinking back.
Director of the Takarazuka Revue, Ogawa Yuuji, who joined Asumi at the press conference, said “She has such grace, and personality, and such an ability to attract customers. As Top Star, she had her 9 shows in the Grand Theatre over 100% audience capacity, which is unprecedented in the history of Takarazuka. We are very grateful to her for working so hard in such a dainty body,” he said, praising her as the Top Star who promoted ‘the Takarazuka of the New Century’. Asumi smiled, saying “It’s not just because of my efforts. I’ll pass that message on to the rest of the girls in the troupe.”
Asumi is from Shizuoka. She had her debut in the 15th year of Heisei [2003], and was assigned to Moon Troupe. She quickly attracted attention due to her handsome appearance and high vocal skills, and had her first Bow Hall lead role and junior performance lead role in Heisei 20 [2008]. In Heisei 24 [2012], when her classmate Ryuu Masaki was appointed Top Star, she became ‘demi-Top Star’. She exchanged lead roles in the Grand Theatre with Ryuu during performances.
In Heisei 25 [2013] she was transferred to Flower Troupe. In Heisei 26 [2014] she became Top Star of Flower Troupe. She evolved even further as an otokoyaku. Possessing both a unique dainty, fairylike beauty, as well as the traditional manliness of Flower Troupe, she created a new model for the Takarazuka otokoyaku. In Heisei 27 [2015] she starred in the Revue’s second tour of Taiwan, and last year [2018] the first stage adaptation of The Poe Family was a great success. Soon, in June of this year, she will star in the Revue’s first production in the Yokahama Arena.
As Top Star of Flower Troupe, she declared that the ‘little hard things’ she had experienced “all became put towards the future performances, and helped me become who I am now.” A huge turning point for her was her transfer in Heisei 25. “Leaving Moon Troupe, where I was raised, was really painful,” she said, her voice shaking as tears began to fall. However, immediately afterwards, “when I came to Flower Troupe, and became a Flower Troupe Otokoyaku, being able to work hard since I thought ‘I need to become a performer who isn’t an embarrassment as Top Star of Flower Troupe’...” She wiped her tears again and looked upwards. “I think that was the happiest thing in my Takarazuka life,” she said.
During her time as ‘demi-Top’ of Moon Troupe, she performed alternate lead roles in the Grand Theatre. “I was able to approach the same show from multiple angles. And since I worked so hard then, I gained the inner strength to be able to feel like any little thing was alright,” she said. She said she also was able to experience how great then-Moon Troupe Top Star Ryuu was. “I’m really grateful to her,” she said.
After her retirement, she said “I will have to look for a job. Since otherwise I won’t be able live,” she said with a laugh. “I don’t have a license, so I would like to go to driving school,” she said with a smile. Upon being asked the customary question about whether she had plans to marry, she burst into a smile. “I don’t have any knowledge on that front yet.”
It turns out that some time ago, she had a palm reading done in Taiwan. “They told me that I had a lot of marriage lines. But I think that since I had so many wives [performance partners] in Takarazuka, I must have used them all up.” She smiled thinking back on the 4 performance partners she has had in her time as Top Star: Ranno Hana, Kano Maria, Senna, and Hana Yuuki.
Finally, she addressed her fans, saying “Since all of you were there, I was able to do my best to become a wonderful otokoyaku and try to show you different sides of myself. I’m full of gratitude.”
Her retirement performance will be A Fairy Tale—Spirit of the Blue Rose (writer/director: Ueda Keiko) / CHARME! (creator/director: Inaba Daichi). The performance will run in the Takarazuka Grand Theatre from August 23 to September 30, and in the Tokyo Takarazuka Theatre from October 18 to November 24.

report: haikyuu!! summer week day 5 part 2 (hajimari no kyojin)
(sorry for the delay! i moved home from japan to the states the day after… technically the day of posting the last report so obviously it's been. Busy. last one tho!! ♥)
previously: day 1 (shoen) day 2 (itadaki no keshiki) day 3 (karasuno, fukkatsu!!) day 4 (shousha to haisha) day 5 part 1 (shinka no natsu)
guests: kenta, keita, funaki masahide, yanagihara rin
Hoo Boy this was by the most outright emotional of all the screenings so far. like, shousha to haisha was intense, but the content was intimately familiar by now. the impact of this was fresh -- and we all knew it was the end, you know? the end of our happy little week, obviously, but also the beginning of the end for karasuno. over the week all those showings had built up this tidal wave of Feelings it then unleashed here, aha. so that the cheering was right on the edge of desperate, like there were real results on the line. self extremely included. this was our last chance, in all kinds of ways.
(i, aware that i would be leaving the country in two days, was perhaps a little more desperate! but it sure as hell wasn't just me. cheering along at the top of our lungs to the opening/closing karasuno jog i described here… it was. a lot.)
of course the reaction to certain parts were as you'd expect. there was dead silence for ennoshita's big scene(s). the cheers for his receives were like nothing else. when ennoshita tells yamaguchi "let's fight together" kenta reeled backward like he'd taken a physical hit. (my son, i love you.) and of course kenta and kt were emoting all over the place for that whole storyline – kt was wiping his eyes after daichi had to leave the court, and then they both teared up over "thank you for coming back" and "captain ni tsunagenakya!"
and of course when it came to rin and funaki they had their own moments – rin obviously got misty-eyed when all of wakutani started losing their shit, lol, and funaki surprised me by wiping his eyes after misaki's goodbye to johzenji. (my guess from daisenshuuraku was right, btw, momo was crying irl during that scene. awww.)
OK BUT BACK TO THE BEGINNING sorry.
once again kt was tricked into dashing out before everyone else. XD kt: um this is not how rehearsal went. kenta: what are you talking about? :( funaki: this is just like we practiced. rin: (nods furiously) kenta: isn't it? kt: ………yes. fine.
so they accidentally grabbed the afternoon's MC script, whoops. which i'm sure kenta noticed as soon as he glanced at it, but didn't turn a hair until it was time for their self-introductions. "playing kageyama tobio, i'm kageyama tatsuya—" kt: playing nishinoya yuu i'm fuchino yuuto ^_^ funaki: hahahaha PLAYING KUROO TETSUROU IM KONDOU SHOURI audience: (CHEERS) rin: (squints at script) playing konoha akinori im… (mutters) ….azuma… takumi…? kenta: ….you were IN A PLAY WITH HIM rin: is that wrong kenta: what have you been calling him all this time rin: …………azuma…..kun………. kenta: and what did he say to that rin: …"yes?" funaki: well he does seem like he'd just roll with that kenta: IT'S HIGASHI HIS NAME IS HIGASHI
kenta: i was the MC for the shoen screening, but earlier this week, rather than do it twice himself, ryoutarou turned it over to yamagiwa kaito-kun-- audience: (bursts into giggles) kenta: …yeah so i thought maybe tonight i'd give someone else a cha-- funaki: ME I WANT TO kenta: --ok here you go funaki: wait what kenta: you looked like you really wanted to so funaki: I SUPER DO :D funaki: so uh (flips pages) next uh -- kenta: r u srs
i was SOOO fond of funaki omg what a friendly bro ahhh. so cheery and good-natured. :D (can u tell i like em dumb and smiley, apparently.) whereas rin-kun was… endearingly ditzy. XD (is he an ex-johnny's? he kind of had that air. it was like looking at ueda tatsuya circa 2005. in no small part because of the wakunan towel tucked into his waistband, which draped to the floor.)
funaki: don't forget to call the player's names during the starting order, like "terushima!" or "terushii!" or "yuuji!"
funaki: so next we'll practice cheers! i, the MC – yeah yeah yeah (rapper pose) -- kenta: masakki! kt: masakki! (like. funaki + masahide = masakki? apparently? i was unfamiliar with this nickname.) funaki: ok now yanagihara-kun's gonna lead the cheer practice rin: nice to meet you i'm MC rin ^_^ rin: where were we again? kenta: rin: wait right. this is. a cheer screening. so we want you to cheer! kenta: they know that. rin: kenta: rin: wait ok i remembered!! audience: GANBARE rin: :D;;
it took SEVERAL MORE FALSE STARTS before we actually got to the cheer practice. poor rin-kun. XD but he wasn't like, shy or embarrassed like takumi-kun he just. was kind of a ditz. "NO WAIT :D lemme try again :D wait where are we? :D"
kt: ARE YOU FIRED UP audience: WHOO funaki: ARE YOU READY TO GO audience: WHOOOO kenta: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE FOOD audience: tamago kake gohan!!
the screening: abovementioned emotions aside, plenty of dancing and choreo as you would espect, especially from funaki. rin apparently was young terushima in the flashbacks! so he and funaki did all the double terushima scenes together. and rin did all of his white coat dance choreo as well.
during the opening, kenta joined rin so he wouldn’t have to do the wakunan choreo alone. XD and funaki and rin played kiyoko-san and yachi ahahaha. then when hinata and ushiwaka begin to turn on the revolving stage, kenta started scuttling around stage trying to "revolve" himself with limited success.
yamaguchi: (snubs shimada's high five) kenta: don't mind!!
despite kenta's gleeful delight in audience comebacks, there were understandably few of them from either him or us because it was everyone's first time watching the show since daisenshuuraku! the demon elementary school children did get this massive cheer that made kenta almost fall out of his chair laughing. ditto akaashi's "michi wo tsukurimasu no de" – that was one of the most full-throated mass "KYAA"s i've ever heard (again… self… included…) and kenta thought it was HILARIOUS.
i myself was reminded all over again what a great show this was, ugh. blah blah I Love Kawahara Kazuma digression aside, please take it as read, IN ADDITION i know i briefly talked about the, like, emotional sensitivity kouhei brought to playing tanaka but fjkdlajfd the close ups on his face made it so much worse, ffffffff. GOD. dude's emotions were A Lot. just. please. gimme the dvd already.
i was also so caught up in nekoma vs fukurodani the first time i watched that i didn't notice how well kuroo and kenma's final scenes onstage functioned as a goodbye for takato and shouri. when you've been in four consecutive shows, you deserve to go out on a meaningful note. (yes ofc we don't know what the future holds etc etc but.) shouri's delivery of "you're our brain, and our spine, and our heartbeat." fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff murder me.
ahem ok. the aftertalk:
funaki said that he was used to watching videos of himself on stage to review and practice with, but it was the first time watching from a normal spectator's perspective. "oh, THAT'S how that came across." and that the effect made him cry.
rin had a really nice thing to say about how watching really impressed on him how haikyuu stage in particular is a work that is dependent on everyone's contributions combined – i.e. it's not just the lead characters, it's the combined effect of the characters in the spotlight and the characters in the background and the white coat ensemble and the technical staff that make haikyuu stage the unique production it is. (this was hard for rin to express in japanese, tbh, so idk how well i'm getting it across in english but his point was that when he says "it's a show we all create together" he's not referring to ideas or feelings but quite literally saying that everyone's contributions on stage are necessary to make haikyuu stage what it is.)
and kenta talked about how (attending every single screening as he did, lol) it was great preparation for saikyou no team to have had the chance to look back on each different production -- especially to look back on the schools and characters that appeared in just one show and carry their feelings forward to the next play.
…then they discussed how quickly rin's hair had grown back since daisenshuuraku. XD rin: tbh… i was emotionally moved when i first looked in the mirror and saw myself with hair.
then as soon as keita prompted them for backstage stories kenta was like GOKU. DEFINITELY GOKU. apparently at daisenshuuraku he started crying before wakunan even huddled up for their pre-show cheer. "I CAN'T HANDLE IT, IT'S TOO MUCH." kenta: i was watching this like R U KIDDING ME WE HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED YET rin: ahaha during the show as well, idk if this is good or bad, but he was always crying, like – there's a bit where hanayama calls "takeru!" as he makes a toss rin: and goku was always like "(sobs) TAKERU!!" kenta: ONE TIME HE CRIED SO MUCH HE SHORTED OUT HIS MIC audience: EHHHHH? kenta: how did that many tears even GET there funaki: probably the sweat plus the crying rin: incredible. kenta: that's haikyuu stage. so much sweat and tears we destroy our mics.
rin also told us about the wakunan red bull rule. they did a lot of team practice on their own, and people were chronically "just barely" late – i.e., never more than a few minutes, but it was enough to throw off practice. so they instituted a rule that whoever was "just barely" late had to buy the rest of the team red bulls. to this day, as they're preparing for their august 25 event… whoever's late has to buy everyone else red bulls. rin: we also took a lot of purikura together kenta: yeah they had such a reputation that whenever they were late karasuno would be like YOU WERE TAKING PURIKURA AGAIN WEREN'T YOU
then for johzenji funaki told the story of "The Take Two Incident", in which during johzenji's ad libs he fucked up his lines two shows in a row – and the second time was so bad he thought "what would terushima do???", straight up yelled "TAKE TWO" and started over. after which kenta collared him backstage like "did you seriously fuckin do that???" funaki: i reflected deeply on my actions.
johzenji also had iizaka, who's a pretty reticent and quiet character. but he had to do something on stage when johzenji was… being johzenji. so karasuno came up with a quirk for him: every time johzenji successfully scored or blocked he would pump his fists and happily yell "MAAA." (5 foot nothing suga kenta reenacting this was delightful, fyi.) kenta: he played the nakashima household's father too. nakashima masayoshi. nakashima… MAA… sayoshi…
THEN, UGH, keita talked about how he gave the post-curtain call greeting for maeraku (i.e. the second-to-last show, the one before senshuuraku). and of course in the greeting he talked about leaving and coming back – and as he did, suga kenta appeared on stage behind him with exactly the same staging/lighting/sound that daichi does during the play, and said daichi's line, "tanaka keita, thank you for coming back." at which point (in the greeting) keita broke down in tears. he somehow managed to relate this story to us without more than a suspiciously husky voice, haha.
(PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD INCLUDE THIS ON THE DVD)
final messages:
rin started off by talking about what a warm atmosphere haikyuu stage has – not only is the production itself good, the people involved in the production are good. this is particularly notable because of the number of people involved. productions with this many people are usually difficult in all kinds of ways – and in his opinion this production is as welcoming and smoothly run as it is thanks to suga kenta. rin: i mean, we're the same age, so as a goal -- well he's not my goal but— kenta: excuse u?? rin: WAIT NO kenta: U COMPLIMENTED ME AND THEN rin: no that's not what i meant!! kenta: WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME HUH (mock flounces off stage) rin: PLEASE LET ME DO IT ONE MORE TIME
(takeru's line, "mou ikkai yarasete kure yo" XD)
he then nicely cleaned it up into what he meant to say about how much he respects kenta and how grateful he was to be part of haikyuu stage.
funaki: WELP JOHZENJI LOST so. that's. my first and last appearance in haikyuu stage. but. tbh. watching this. i really. want to be in it again. i want. to go back. BUT I CAN'T. but all of us in johzenji will do our best in our different venues so maybe we'll meet again. thanks for loving our play so much.
keita: (deep breath) lone audience member: okaeri <3 keita: tadaima :) keita managed to get through his without tearing up… i think. (i love him!!!!) he talked about how of course during a normal show one gets energized and encouraged by the audience's applause, but the energy from these screenings were different and even more direct. "it was like we were all a team." ;___;
and kenta talked about how enjoyable it was to share the emotions of a match directly with everyone, and that looking back on all the productions so far, he was reminded of all the friends and companions that got them this far, including of course the audience. :)
and that's a wrap for the summer week screenings! as i said before, i'll write up a little report about the haikyuu day event – they did an aftertalk after the livestream ended just for the theater – but it should be relatively short compared to these monsters. thanks for tuning in, everyone! ♥♥♥

Speaking of the episode 12 of the audio drama, I think it’s still one of the cutest scenes, when Mio and Saki come running to tell Yoshio he has another opportunity to take the entrance exam for his university, and the first thing Yoshio says is: “Mio! You shouldn’t run like that!”
And shortly after,
Mio: “Ah, I-I’m getting dizzy...”
Saki: “Mio-chan! Mio-”
Yoshio: “Oi! Mio! Mio! Mio! Mioooo!! Miooooo!!!! Doctor, doctor!! She’s dying!! Somebody call an ambulance!!!”
... Sachiko Sugawara is kinda interrupted when Yuuji Ueda starts yelling, I can only imagine her face recording that scene, haha 😂
I know they’re the side pairing and all, but why aren’t there more scenes with them? ;__;

4, 38, and 48 for Oddly Specific Asks! ~heart-stealer
Oh, it's you!! Hi! ❤ Thank you so much for sending me an ask! I've already answered 48, but I will of course answer the other two. And please forgive me for the second question being so wordy, it is quite long.
Does your F/O have any battle scars?
Oh, Shoot has so many. They are very pale, but you can slightly see them on his skin. He definitely has scars around his right ankle and calf where he broke his leg after being in the hospital. And all of the deep cuts from the big fight I imagine all healed and you can barely make them out, but I've seen other artists sometimes draw him with the giant cut across his whole chest. I think that would be just a bit more visible than the other cuts. Now that I think about it...Shoot has a cut across his chest just like Tenshinhan...
What’s a song that reminds you of your F/O when you hear?
I actually have a whole playlist I made for Shoot... 💓 But here are a handful of ones that really make me think of him, which I will link them all in post:
Shine by The Northern Hues is a good song for Shoot. "When your back has been broken / Every path leads you to nowhere / Cry now, stand up and live... / When your burnt soul has done you harm / And the night weighs down on your arms" Something about this song is very emotional and it seems like it fits him.
I Believe by Jonas Brothers, oh my goodness this, Hesitate, and Lovebug are all so sweet and beautiful. "Everywhere that I go, feeling you all around me / Now that I got you close, I'm alright / Baby, I didn't know, but I'm glad that you found me / When you hold me it's like heaven coming down" - "Kiss the tears right off your face / I will take your pain / And put it on my heart / I won't hesitate" - "Now I'm speechless / Over the edge, I'm just breathless / Hopeless, head over heels in the moment / I never thought that I'd get hit by this lovebug again" Oh, I LOVE these songs!! Makes me think of whenever I was a teenager. Oh, Sucker would be a perfect fit for Shoot too. "And baby, you know it's obvious / I'm a sucker for you / You say the word and I'll go anywhere blindly" Yes!!!
Right Back Home to You and One Track Mind by Chromeo, oh you better believe Chromeo makes me think of Shoot. I love these songs more than anything. "I know a place, a place where I can go / And it's right back home to you, girl /I can't lie I'm so excited / To get right home to you" - "I got a one track mind / And it's takin' up all my time / And it's all on you / You might think I'm crazy but I'm crazy 'bout you / Baby, can you blame me lookin' good like you do" Good Chromeo jams. Their lyrics leave me winded. "They say that I'm obsessed / But I'm upset / And I won't settle for nothing less than your caress" So good!! I guess I should put Over Your Shoulder here, too... "Stop looking over your shoulder / Cause if it was up to me I'd make you feel right / Cause it's those little imperfections that make beauty in my eyes..." 💞
Never My Love by The Association and When The Sun Hits by Slowdive are songs Suzi showed me recently they are just...the perfect songs for Shoot. "You ask me if there'll come a time / when I grow tired of you / you wonder if this heart of mine / will lose its desire for you / Never my love" - "Come so far, don't lose me / It matters where you are / As the sun hits, she'll be waiting" Pretty, old songs.
And honestly, any song not instrumental off of Return to Wherever from TWRP is a small connection to Shoot for me. That album came out last July before my birthday, the happiest moment in my life, and it was around the time I was watching the end of Chimera Ant Arc, so it's very near and dear to my heart. The album, along with the connection I have with it for Shoot and Knuckle both. Generous Dimensions, Hidden Potential, and All Night Forever are so good, I get to daydreaming about Shoot when it comes to those songs. "Come so far and now you're gonna put it all on the line / Unlock your hidden potential / You can do anything / Unleash the beast that lies within / Trust in yourself and you will set the bar / You will set the bar, reach the stars!" 💓 I would put the lyrics to Generous Dimensions and All Night Forever...but I'm honestly really embarrassed. 😳
Slow Hands by Niall Horan. Oh, blame my work for letting me discover how much I adore this song. I could never not think about Shoot when hearing the lyrics. "I've been thinking 'bout it all day / And I hope you feel the same way / Cause I want you bad / Yeah, I want you, baby / No chance that I'm leaving here without you on me / I already know that there ain't no stoppin' / Your plans and those slow hands" This song is lovely. Perfect song to associate Shoot's hands with. 💞
There's also a lot of Japanese songs that I associate with Shoot, like きっと遠く キミともっと遠く (Surely Far) by Bradio, and Sweet Sweet Sweet by Dreams Come True (Sweet Dream is their English version of the song, both are very pretty.) The funniest association of Shoot I have with a Japanese song I really love is Next Door from the Tokimeki Memorial series...cause that's Yuuji Ueda singing it! 💓 I associate many songs of Ueda's with Shoot, that one, but especially Lost from Tokimemo series and Na no naki from Hamelin no Violin Hiki. Both of those songs his voice gets very deep, and it's like his Shoot voice. 💓💓💓 I really adore Yuuji Ueda. He is such a good singer and voice actor.
