Plant of the Day
Sunday 26 March 2023
At the summit of the Edinburgh Botanic Garden, Scotland, rock garden is an amazing specimen of Ulmus glabra 'Nana' (dwarf wych elm). This is a very slow growing deciduous shrub that with time will form a small tree. The origin of this cultivar is unknown but it was listed in the Simon-Louis 1869 catalogue in France as Ulmus montana nana.

the funniest outcome of writing a fic with chapter titles all of native trees is. well. I am going to take my arborist exam sometime this year and a tree ID is part of it and we'll isn't it great that I've memorized all these random scientific names.

This Ulmus parvifolia 'Frosty' (lacebark elm, Chinese elm) is a small tree with lots of character. It features green leaves with frosted edges and interestingly mottled bark. The tree produces a vase shaped habit and has proved resistant to dutch elm disease.

Thane's face looks kinda fucked but aside from that, I think these turned out a bit better than my last rows. I'm trying to be more creative with the compositions🤷♂️ Oh and I surprisingly had the most fun with Ulmus. He is just Plants, which I love to draw lol
