October 2022: Update Regarding Contractual Obligations

Hi! It hasn’t been a long time, but it has been at least a while since I’ve posted anything. Since my last post wherein I basically went, “Hey, maybe I should rewrite the first few chapters of CO?” I haven’t even been able to touch the fic, especially between classes, mental crises, and Hurricane Fiona.

However! There are some good things that came from my break, and they mostly come from in the form of being able to properly think through what I want for Contractual Obligations. Previously, I was merely writing this fic for shits and giggles (and to get it off my chest. It’s been in the scenario machine for quite some time), but I’ve begun to realize I really need to brush off my writing expertise and take it a tad bit more seriously, especially if I ever want to feel satisfied with this work long-term. Especially with satisfaction separated from watching the hit counter go up.

Essentially, I want to restructure my priorities and the fic itself in order to be able to feel satisfied with my work and not just judge it by the metrics AO3 has set up.

As such, this post is largely for myself (clearly, as I have no followers) to write down my goals of the year and, hopefully, have them even just partially fulfilled before the year is up. These are under the read more.

 NO. 1: Reread and annotate the Diabolik Lovers: Haunted Dark Bridal routes for each boy. CO canon occurs before the events of this specific game. Seeing as it’s the game I’m most familiar with, and Rejet canon is infamously hard to work with, I’ll be basing almost all of my canon from HDB. I’ll be cross-referencing different translators’ works for these annotations as I can’t particularly translate the visual novel myself and encourage others to support these translator’s works.

I’ll be reading the works of translators @/dialovers-translations and @/misslover98. I encourage others to do the same, as they’re doing great work for the fandom. The former specializes in English translations while the latter specializes in Spanish translations. As a Latin bilingual person, I feel most comfortable switching between both languages if necessary. If something doesn’t make sense to me, I’ll switch to the other and go from there.

 NO. 2: Recreate the outline for the fic based off of the information I have gained from my annotations. This one is pretty self-explanatory.  I do have an outline for the work, however it’s admittedly half-assed and I don’t really have an idea what I’m doing. While I do have some ideas as to what I want to occur, I’m not quite sure if they’re what need to occur to secure that ending. Because yes, the ending I have in mind already exists and no, none of you are allowed to know what it is.

 NO. 3: Rewrite the first four chapters of CO to better fit in thematically and narratively with the rest of the work. I have an exact vision of what I would like my work to feel like when reading it and, as of now, only chapter one meets that expectation. As such, I would feel more comfortable with this version of CO if it was tonally consistent all across the work and this means analyzing where I went wrong and fixing it from there.

 NO. 4: Post Chapter Five of Contractual Obligations.

OJO (which is the equivalent of “Please Note!” in Spanish): These are organized from most important to least important. I cannot promise that each will be fulfilled before the year is up. But I can promise to bring you updates whenever possible regarding that which has occurred.

yourusername welcome back to my postgame penalty box update show: quinn finally did me a solid edition!

the first notable thing to happen in this game occurred at 7:05 in the first period— ‼️QUINN GOT A TRIPPING PENALTY‼️the second picture shows him pouting, probably because he knew i was going to be elated over this and he hates to see me happy

AND THEN a flame (ruzicka) tripped petey, which created a 4 on 4 for 1 minute and 17 seconds. nobody scored on the 4 on 4, but guess who did once quinn got out on parole? PETEY! THAT'S WHO! and milsy assisted on it! oh yeah! and quinn did, too! (his 21st assist ;))

this has made quinn have the third most career assists for a defenseman in their first 300 games! did i forget to mention that this was his 300th game? because it was!

onto the second period! quinn got hit and he fell down and hronek tried to throw hands in his honor but neither him nor the flame (pospisil) really succeeded in that, but they both got two for roughing anyways (i’d call it aggressive hugging but whatever works i guess)

then quinny baby let some agression out and slashed coleman (a flame) after he was interfered with while facing him, knocking the stick out of his hands! that's my big brother! don't take that shit! they both got a penalty, quinn's being his second (i cheered) and we had ourselves a 3 on 3 that trickled into the third!

sadly, the universe only liked me a little bit. while i was elated by quinn getting two penalties, it was a hard nuck life tonight (get it?) and we lost 5-2 :(

anyways! congratulations on having played 300 nhl games, huggy buggy! i love you way past infinity🩵

Just a reminder to everyone that Simon has gone out of his way to continue communication with fans and to let us know updates when he can. There are too many posts criticising him for not releasing more information when we can only imagine the level of work that has gone on behind the scenes. He will release information when he can, he should not be criticised for his contractual obligations or taking his time to finalise details which will be out of his hands. He shared in our grief, he entered our spaces to hear our thoughts and took time out to do interviews. It’s easy to forget that he wasn’t obligated to do any of that, but he still did. I know we’re all excited and a little impatient, but this guy has gone above and beyond. Let’s continue supporting him by showing how grateful we are ♥️
