Swiftbolt Varus is old school D&D cool

I definitely have a bias in favor of the D&D skin-line, because I am A Big Nerd, but Swiftbolt Varus also appeals to my other bias which is novel interpretations of a character.

Varus skins generally come in one of three varieties: cool guy, sexy boy or monster who may or may not also be cool and sexy.

Swiftbolt Varus instead visibly and significantly ages Varus up, de-emphasizes his scarf as a character feature and dresses him almost boringly sensibly. Where every other Varus skin, except perhaps for Blight Crystal, goes hard for sleek and slick coolness, Swiftbolt feels like it's aiming for a decidedly more retro fantasy cool, which fits the D&D theme of the skin-line quite well. It has more the vibe of a White Dwarf issue from the 80s, and less an anime opening from the 2010s, which is the vibe that dominates a lot of other skin-lines.

Which is not to say that retro is better, it's not, it's just... different, and I like different.

Cosmic Hunter Varus has no cosmic magic

The thing is... it's not that Cosmic Hunter Varus is bad as such. It's not. It's... fine. It's a perfectly passable skin. It looks good, the effects are nice.

It's that Cosmic Hunter Varus, in the lore of its universe, is supposed to be the counterpart of Dark Star Varus. Like, Dark Star Varus is a threat to the universe, so the Cosmic Court created Cosmic Hunter Varus to hunt down his dark counterpart and restore balance to the blah blah, and, like...

Dark Star Varus has the collapsing heart of a star at the nexus of his bow, he has a floating demon skull for a head and a swirling consuming void on his shoulders, and Cosmic Hunter... is some normal-ass looking dude in slightly fancy fantasy clothes. Like, where is the cosmic magic, the golden light of a nova pulsing in his chest, the tails of a galaxy forming the arms of his bow, a scarf made of the trail of a comet, he's just some fucking guy with gold accents.

Cosmic Hunter has good production values, but not a single interesting visual idea to realize with them.
