happy year of the dragon 🎉🎊🐉 with our favorite golden dragon
(and, because it wouldn't be a post of mine, after all, without a long footnote: to be clear, villentretenmerth was inspired by the legend of the dragon of wawel hill, and when people (meaning: netflix) erroneously claim that he was inspired by asian dragons instead, and mention nothing of this krakówian dragon nor the cobbler twiney whom defeated it, it actually kind of ticks me off, not only because i find it lazy, but also because the whole point of villentretenmerth's character is that he's a subversion of the type of cruel, greedy dragon from european mythology... however, i'm setting all of this aside momentarily, because since i was born in 2000, my zodiac is that of a golden dragon, and because i also happen to be a witcher fan... i call for borch-posting)

after having watched a bunch of clips of it, i’m finally watching the hexer properly, and while i was ready for the infamous cgi dragon, i feel like its greatness was vastly undersold by not having the rest of the scene posted with it
"No Ciri, that's a forktail. Remember that draconid you saw in the books earlier this morning?"
"But aren't dragons draconids too? So wouldn't that make forktails dragons as well?"
"Hmm. Yes...but real dragons are actually sentient."
"What does sentient mean?"
"They have the ability to perceive what we're feeling. And they have human-like knowledge and intelligence."
"Does that mean they could talk?"
Villentretenmerth immediately flashes through Geralt's mind. He gave a wry smile.
"Yeah, they can."
"How do you know? Have you met one before?"
This time, instead of just Villentretenmerth, the image of Yennefer cradling the baby dragon appeared in his mind. The softness of her eyes as she cradled the dragon, the longing for a child of her own palpable. Then the words of Villentretenmerth echoed through his mind.
The subtle flinch and pain in Yennefer's face as she heard those words were etched forever in his mind. Suddenly, he did not feel like talking about the dragon anymore.
"Yeah. But that's a story for another day. Come on, Ciri, let's get you back to the keep."
"Now? Why?! Aren't we going to go hunt down that forktail together?"
"We'll get Eskel or Lambert to go hunt it down. You're not ready yet."
"But I'm a Witcher too! I'm not scared!"
"I've no doubt about that."
"Let me follow! Please!"
"One day, Little Witcheress, one day."

Villentretenmerth told us we were made for each other. Destined for each other. And that nothing would come of it because destiny alone isn’t sufficient. Something more is needed. She is something more.
