new townhouses, Sterling, Virginia
Most internet traffic in the world passes through Loudon County, Virginia. What was once was farmland and forests surrounding Dulles Airport has recently been transformmed into data centers and cloud storage. Just outside of the airport noise restriction zone new condos, townhouses, and apartments are interspersed between the huge data centers. This link can give you an idea what it looks like from space: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sterling,+VA/@38.9907809,-77.4400435,3810m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x89b6384f20fb61ad:0x5bfd0cf0a55864c!8m2!3d39.0066993!4d-77.4291298!16zL20vMDNzd2d0?entry=ttu

Virginia mom is ordered to stop BREASTFEEDING six-month-old daughter after judge in bitter custody battle rules it is interfering with estranged husband's time with their children
Arleta Ramirez has been court-ordered not to breastfeed her six-month-old baby
Father, Mike Ridgway, was also granted four visitation days and overnight visits
Ridgway claimed that his daughter's feeding times were interfering with visits

A Virginia mom has been ordered to stop breastfeeding her six-month-old daughter after a judge in a bitter custody battle ruled that it was interfering with her estranged husband's time with their children.
Arleta Ramirez has been breastfeeding her daughter since she was born in July and had also breastfed her son, who is now two, the Washington Post reported.
According to the outlet Ramirez was ordered to 'make every effort to place the child on a feeding schedule and use a bottle' by a Prince William County judge in late November.

Beginning this month, the judge's ruling also granted the children's father, Mike Ridgway, four visitation days and overnight visits.
Ridgway complained that his daughter's feeding times were interfering with his visits, but Ramirez who has had trouble pumping milk in the past, believes, like some experts, that 'breast is best.

She is preparing evidence for a hearing in April from breastfeeding experts as well as a letter from her pediatrician.
'Why are they forcing me to stop breastfeeding?' she told the Washington Post. 'Isn't that her right? Isn't that in her best interest?'
Ridgway said that he had given Ramirez 'space to both nurse and to pump milk for me to bottle-feed our daughter while she is in my care.'
'Past the age of 6 months I will continue to support breastfeeding and bottle-feeding our daughter breast milk as much as possible, while also supplementing with formula only when absolutely necessary,' he added.
Ridgway's attorney, Tara Steinnerd, said Ramirez was using breastfeeding 'as a weapon' in what she claims is a means to salvage a relationship that is over.
'They come up with a myriad of excuses,' she told the outlet. 'It's about using breastfeeding as a weapon against visitation.'

Matoaka
Matoaka, known more widely as Pocahontas, was born into the Powhatan people around 1596. Her early years were spent in the midst of a bustling household led by her father, Chief Powhatan, in the Tsenacommacah region of Virginia. Though her given name was Amonute, she was affectionately known as Matoaka within her community. As a child, she likely engaged in the daily tasks typical of her culture, contributing to farming, gathering, and other domestic chores alongside her kin.
Her encounter with the English came in 1607 when Captain John Smith arrived at her father's capital. Despite legends suggesting her role in Smith's rescue, her involvement in saving him is debated among historians.
As tensions between the English settlers and the Powhatan people escalated, Matoaka's life took a tumultuous turn. She married a man named Kocoum, likely as a strategic move by her father to ensure her safety. However, her capture by English colonists in 1613 disrupted these plans, leading to her baptism, marriage to John Rolfe, and eventual journey to England.
In England, Matoaka was thrust into the spotlight, presented as a symbol of the "civilised savage" to garner support for the struggling Jamestown colony. Despite the attention, her time in England was marked by challenges, including strained relationships and deteriorating health.
Tragically, Matoaka's life was cut short at the age of around twenty-one, just as she prepared to return to Virginia. Her legacy, overshadowed by romanticised narratives, reveals a complex intersection of cultures and the harsh realities of early colonial America. She was not merely a figure of romance, but a young woman who suffered due to a rapidly changing world.

I'm sure I'm not the only fannibal that has seen the map of the distance between Quantico, wills house, and Hannibal's house.
I've always found it lackluster, so I tried to add to it a bit, the locations in Baltimore are a little made up, though somewhat inspired by distance between real life location shots. I couldn't find anything about the location shots for jacks house, but it is apparently also in Baltimore, so I just did my best. As for the state mental hospital and the psych center, I just selected two locations in Baltimore that seemed appropriate as the map was a little boring with 5 pins in the same spot in Baltimore.
The filming locations are blue & green, with the green ones being a couple spots of interest I was able to find. I also made up Hannibal's Seaside home just a bit, it was filmed in Norway, and in universe its never explained where it is set, so I just found a nice cliff on the east coast near VA & MD and made it a point.
Hopefully these slightly more detailed maps are as interesting for you as they are for me.

Mabry Mill, Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia, 1974.
One of the first of many pictures I have taken at this stopping place on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We used to drive the Parkway every couple of years, but COVID ended that tradition. Maybe in 2023.

Democrat Aaron Rouse appeared to clinch the special election for Virginia’s 7th state Senate district on Tuesday in yet another victory for his party, which was already riding high from a better-than-expected midterm election.
The race was a nail-biter, with Rouse scraping by over Republican opponent Kevin Adams with less than 1% of the vote, according to unofficial election results. Still, the flip will be seen as a major win by the party and will expand its majority in the commonwealth’s state Senate. The split in the chamber will now stand at 22-18.
Rouse declared victory shortly after the unofficial vote tallies were counted.
“THANK YOU!” he tweeted Tuesday night. “With your support, and the support of voters from across Virginia Beach and Norfolk, we have won this Special Election. No rest for the weary – tomorrow, we head to Richmond to get to work for Virginia families.”
His party also hailed the victory, with the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee tweeting Tuesday night that it “will help Dems defend our majority in the VA Senate this fall!”
Rouse, a Virginia Beach city council member and former NFL player, will replace Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-Va.) in the seat that she vacated after she defeated former Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Va.) in the November U.S. congressional elections.
The seventh state Senate district includes much of the Virginia Beach area and parts of Norfolk. Rouse’s victory is significant due to the district’s Republican lean. Kiggans won the seat by just less than a point in 2019, while Biden won the district by 10 points in 2020. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) won the seat during the state’s 2021 gubernatorial campaign. And in 2022, Kiggans trailed Luria by four points in precincts within the state Senate district, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.
Rouse’s victory is also significant because it provides Democrats with an extra vote against any measure that could restrict abortion access in the commonwealth. The issue featured heavily in the race and underscored its viability for Democrats as they look toward the November general elections and the 2024 presidential election.
