9-1-1 | REWATCH ⇝ Favorite Moments ➤ S01E08 Karma's a Bitch
"Now, you tell me that's the wrong kid. Look, you're gonna see your own kids again. I do believe that. But right now, Asha, and another thousand just like her, they're your kids too. That's your blood in their veins. [...] Could you explain to me again how God's not punishing me? Oh, he's just teasing you. Yeah. Considering who I work with, he must figure I can take a joke."

i’m so glad (you found me in time)
39k | buck/eddie | while you were sleeping au
“Are you family?” she asks, flipping to the next page on her clipboard.
“I mean, I was the one who rescued her,” Eddie starts, his hand rubbing the back of his neck uncomfortably.
The nurse cuts in before he can figure out where he wants the rest of his sentence to go. “Family only, sorry.”
She walks to the other end of the station before Eddie can give his feeble protests. “Family? I’m gonna marry that woman someday.”
Eddie is too in his own head to hear the soft gasp behind him and to the left. But the pediatric nurse who overheard the most romantic declaration before 8am in the morning doesn’t hesitate to set things straight.

I find it very interesting that Tim Minear told an interviewer that they are “basically laying down the train tracks on 911 while the train is still moving”. And then he further added that they’re still “in the middle of writing episodes 8-10” which are literally set to air next month. So what this tells me is that they are definitely waiting to gauge general audience reactions for the storylines they have leading up to the small hiatus. Because the hiatus gives them plenty of time to rewrite anything that might not be accepted positively or double down and perfect their initial ideas.
Now what I find a little suspicious is that Tim is a calculated person. We know that he called Oliver ahead of his current storyline and talked to him about what his plans were for Buck, which was his sexuality storyline. Now isn’t it strange how another person on the show, Ryan Guzman, seems so happy and keeps assuring in all his interviews that the writers take into consideration feedback from fans and are going to give us what we want? All the interviews he’s done with Oliver, just give off vibes that they both know something we don’t know. So why would Ryan be so confident in what the writers are writing when according to Tim, they still don’t have anything concrete written for the last three episodes of the season? Unless…unless Tim has also called up Ryan and expressed what his plans are for his character’s storyline for the season. Maybe it was even a joint call of some sort to let both Ryan and Oliver know that he perhaps has plans to get the ball rolling for bringing Buddie together romantically. And what way to do that is by dipping his toe in first with Buck’s storyline with Tommy to see how the general audience reacts to the possibility of Buck dating a man.
Meanwhile Tim has also shown how strong Buck and Eddie are as a family unit with Christopher in episode 7.01. So whatever happens in 7.05 before the hiatus, it’s likely to arise some questions for viewers. And while sifting through the comments and feedback, it’ll help Tim make up his mind on how to finish off this season. Which means it can very possibly end with a big confirmation that Buddie is happening come season 8.
I just think with Tim sharing so many Buddie stills to his personal Facebook page before the season even aired, choosing that specific Buckley Diaz family moment in 7.01, and confirming that they don’t have plans for Buddie “right now” doesn’t confirm it’s not happening. On the contrary, I think he’s literally waiting and watching how the public reacts before coming up with a concrete plan on when it is time to make it happen. Everything he’s done and said just seems so deliberate in my honest opinion.
And both Ryan and Oliver’s behavior also seem very deliberate and I can go on and on about that as well but I’ll just say they’re behaving very differently this season overall than any other season. I mean just look at how often Oliver shares Ryan on his stories. And how quickly Ryan shares 911 content and pictures taken by Oliver to his stories. This has never been the case between these two in all 6 years they’ve worked together. All that aside, choosing both of them to interview together, discuss their storylines and promote together was a definite choice made by whoever is in charge. So why those two specifically when it could’ve been any other 911 cast member? Peter and Angela had a three episode arc and we didn’t get a single joint interview together. We know JLH and Kenny have a big wedding storyline coming up and have yet to get a single joint interview with them. Aisha and Tracie have a storyline coming up about them adding to their family and we don’t have any interviews with them. But we also don’t have any interviews with just like Kenny and Aisha since they also play best friends on the show. Like all these decisions that were made ahead of this season are very suspicious to me especially when you consider literally everything else that’s been said by Tim and both Ryan and Oliver. So I guess take what you will with all this information but I’m just very suspicious about everything that’s going on.

911 Hiatus Rewatch and Random People in Calls I Felt Like Gifing While Rewatching:
Sheryl missing the connection on the name of the sorority dog in Animal Instincts.
84 notes · View notes
Momentarily leaving behind everything happening in the world and my own chaotic life, speaking only about fandoms, I've been emotional for days.
After nearly a year without it, and what would have been a terrible finale, 911 is back for season 7 and I am cautiously optimistic for the future of the show.
But one year ago was also the premiere of Shadow and Bone season two, which turned out to be the final season even though the scripts for the spinoff are written and multiple stories in the Grishaverse were left unfinished.
Another thing that happened one year ago was the cancelation of Willow, which days later was claimed to be a hiatus. Two months later it was removed and seems increasingly less likely to return. There were two more Volumes planned.
For all that's great about 911 ( and 911 LS btw) and there is a lot, it's not exactly a unique concept. There's no shortage of first responder based series and most of them at least attempt to be diverse.
Where there is a definitive lack of inclusion, where there is in fact a real problem with racism, sexism, ableism and homophobia is in fantasy series, especially those in period settings.
The rare few that mange to subvert these problems are underpromted, targeted by trolls and review bombed leading to unfair early cancelations.
I won't go into long rants about what made Willow and Shadow and Bone stand out among this small selection (I've done that already if you're interested) I'll only reiterate the need for these and similar stories to be told.
So, if you've somehow stuck around to read all of this, you're probably already a fan of Shadow and Bone (Six of Crows) or Willow but if not, give them a chance.
And if you're a 911 (or 911 LS) fan, next time you're enjoying your favorite firefam joking and flirting while they fight fires and save lives, REMEMBER
He may not hear the universe screaming at him but, even Eddie Diaz wants magic

Welcome (back) to the world of firefighter-focused brackets! I've been gone for a little while, but I'm back (kind of) to open up submissions for...
The Firefighter Ships Bracket
Not unlike my first bracket on this blog, I'm planning on starting this bracket with 32 seeds - if I get enough submissions for different ships among a variety of fandoms, I might bump it up to 64 starting seeds. It will just depend on how submissions go. I'll keep this space updated if and when I know more! The submission form can be found here!
Rules:
Submissions will close on Saturday, May 27th at 12pm PST. It gives you almost two weeks to submit ships and me almost two days to seed the bracket and put things together before I go back to work after my trip.
I will be capping the number of 911/One Chicago/etc ships if it's necessary. It's going to depend on how many submissions each ship gets and how many other fandoms get represented - I just don't want one fandom taking over half of the bracket when other, smaller fandoms could get that spotlight instead
At least one (but not necessarily both+) members of the ship must be a firefighter or a paramedic.
The ships do not have to be canon, or even just pairings. I'll accept anything from pairings to OT3+, canon or hinted at. However - they must have some basis in canon. Two characters from different fandoms or characters who have never interacted don't work here. I'm sorry.
Be nice. This wasn't an issue until the final round of the first bracket, so I trust you guys to keep it civil again. As long as that's the case, anonymous will stay on for the inbox. However, after the mess of the finals round, replies on posts will be kept off. You're more than welcome to reblog and put your thoughts in the tags or in additional text on your own blog, instead.
Have fun! Let's enjoy this silliness during the hiatus, and get excited about our ships together!
Remember, submissions close at noon on May 27th, so make sure to send in your ships before then!

Lone Star Rewatch Poll
I'm in the middle of a Lone Star hiatus rewatch right now, and it got me wondering about how other people rewatch the show.
For me, if I'm going to rewatch, I'll start at the beginning and watch every episode in order until I get to the end. While I do rewatch certain scenes (particularly Tarlos scenes) many, many times, I don't think I've ever just rewatched an individual episode outside of a complete series rewatch (except for when a season is airing I'll rewatch the most recent episode a couple times right after it airs). This is currently my 5th time through the entire series.
I think I covered most possibilities but let me know if you do it a different way! If you want to expand on your answer, either in the tags or by sending me an ask, I would love that! I'm fascinated by how people interact differently with media.

An update on where I’ve been.
Warning: mentions of topics that could be a trigger warning for some. reader discretion is advised.
A/N: if you don’t want to read any of that stuff, basically, I’m okay. I’m alive.
As I’m writing this post, the whole stalker situation has blown over, for now…but I didn’t think it would be resolved as quickly as it did.
It turns out that the guy who was stalking me turned out to be one of my coworkers. Evidently, a guy who worked under me. (I’m not going to say his name, as to respect his privacy, even though he doesn’t deserve it.)
As he stated, as he was being dragged off of my mother in law’s property screaming his head off, it had started off as a crush, and that he “didn’t mean to hurt me”. Hate to break it to you, but attempting to stab me and giving me multiple bruises and cuts isn’t exactly not hurting me.
I’m okay, no fatal injuries were inflicted.
But basically, I was peacefully sleeping in my mother in law’s house, as I announced when I was going on my semi-hiatus. I was feeling restless, so I went up go get a snack from the kitchen, but I noticed Snoopy, one of my beagles, was acting strangely.
I assumed it was nothing, and let him walk down with me to the kitchen. But as soon as we got downstairs, he started growling. Like, he did not sound like a one year old beagle. It scared me even. Again, I brushed it off, until he started barking loudly at the pantry.
Long story short, the guy was hiding in the pantry waiting for me to come down. He claimed he knew whenever I came down for a late night snack, because he had apparently had been watching me. For months. Yeah.
He jumped out, knife in hand, and wrestled me to the ground while trying to stab me. He didn’t sink the knife in too far, but I did get a few cuts. I was able to disarm him and get the knife away, and my mother in law had come downstairs after hearing the noise combined with my dog’s barking.
After that, she tackled him and had to tase him and held him down while my father in law called 911.
I still don't know how he was able to disarm the alarm system and break into the house.
I’d say about ten minutes later the cops showed up. They escorted him out of the house and put him in the police car before he could do anything else. I was called to the station a little later to do some questioning.
After they were done questioning me, they told me what he had originally planned to do. (Surprisingly, he had admitted to everything) I had to vomit after what they’d told me he said.
Apparently, this all started a whole year ago, when he first started to work under me at my job. (He's been fired, don't worry) I was unaware, of course. He said he'd been fixated on me from the moment he saw me walk in, and he "had to have me". (I know, this sounds like a fic I'd write. But seriously, this shit happened.)
It had started out "simple". You know, just finding out my entire schedule, stalking my posts, taking pictures of me when I wasn't looking, you know, the good stuff. (This is sarcasm. Don't bitch and moan about it.)
Apparently, by the second month, he claimed he knew everything about me! He even knew that I (at the time) had a girlfriend. He assumed our relationship would burn out, because he was jealous of her and "wanted me all to himself". Well, that clearly didn't happen.
When he heard of our engagement in the summer, he was pissed. (Allegedly) That's when he started to stalk Mia.
He found out everything about her that he could. Her address, her workplace, where she went to university, most of her family members, friends, and that she has a hearing impairment. And that she's basically mute.
I don't know what he would've done with that last bit of info if this had all been discovered a bit too late, but I can think of a few examples that make me sick to my stomach.
After all this happened, he had apparently been working up the courage to ask me out. After he got rid of Mia, of course. (Again. Sarcasm. This is how I cope with traumatic events.)
More than half of his phone storage was just of me. Pictures, documents detailing horrible things he'd do if "the time came", screenshots of some of the platforms where I post, and some of my favorite things, which he planned to "lure me in" with.
He planned to essentially (R-word) me, and get me (with his child) so I "couldn't leave him". He also planned to (unalive) Mia, so he could "get her out of the way of his true love". I don't know what he planned to do to her after he (unalived) her, but I can gurantee that it would not have been good.
He did get me something for Christmas, actually. He uhh...he got me a s3x toy. And he mailed it to me. (Or delivered it himself, I don't know which.)
I assumed it must've been a mistake, because there was no indication that it was mine, or even for me, so I assumed that UPS or something had the wrong address. So I threw it away and basically said, "Oh well, guess someone's boyfriend/girlfriend will have one less present this year." He didn’t appreciate that.
He was mad because he knew I wasn’t using the toy he got me, because he’d been watching me when I was going solo a few times. He was disappointed because his gift wasn’t there. Not that I wanted it, anyway…
The creepy thing about it though, was the letter that was attached to it. Basically, in summary, it said: "I miss you so much, my one true love, we'll be together soon."
I thought the person who mailed it to me might've had a long distance partner or something.
After Christmas, he'd calmed down for like a month, but at the beginning of February, he picked up again. He found out Mia's phone number from where she worked, and started to text and harass her. She hadn't told me, (I think she was scared to) so it all came as a surprise to me when he texted me eventually.
Basically, most, if not all, of the texts were basically him threatening and pressuring her to leave me or else "something bad would happen". He also sprinkled in a few "she's mine", "she doesn't want you", you know, the like.
After she'd blocked him, she hadn't told anyone about it.
So after he started to text me, she admitted to everything. I wasn't mad, of course. So, we contacted the police. I'll spare you the details.
I think I was more concerned for Mia than myself, even though his motto was basically "If I can't have her no one will". I think, at the time, she was in more danger than I was. Apparently, he somehow knew (Of course he fucking did) that I was going to my MIL's house.
A few hours later, he somehow managed to start texting Mia again, and he began to threaten me. Saying bs like "I'm gonna (R-word) you and your fiancée if you don't listen to me". I probably can't say much more without guidelines sniping me.
And then the rest of it happened. So, yeah. That's the end of it.
Thank you all (especially my mooties) for all of the support, and I'm (thankfully) okay now and (fortunately) fully intact.
Everything’s happened so fast…I know it probably seems fake to you guys, but I’m not in the mood for any snarky comments right now. Most of this happened literally the day after I received those messages.
Also, I might take down a few posts with pictures of myself soon. Just a heads up if you liked one and it suddenly disappears.

Temptation Tuesday
So apparently I have started several buddie fics, and now that we are all in a ridiculously long hiatus I’m going to need something to fill my grief of no 911 for who knows how long. So, here’s what I’m working on.
1. The Open Channel - Bobby’s POV. On a call Eddie gets trapped under a building, over the radio he asks to talk to Buck privately. The thing is, they’re talking on an open channel so everyone can hear their conversation.
2. The Universe is Screaming - Trapped!Buddie fic. Started off as 6x18 spec, ended up being pure angst. Trapped!Buddie talking about how Eddie went after Buck when he was hanging from the ladder, and why Buck is so pissed at him for it.
3. Cool 2.0 - Sequel to Cool. Eddie’s POV. Natalia calls Buck’s death cool while at dinner with Buck, Eddie and Chris, and Eddie has some thoughts about that.
4. Abstinent Relationship - Buck and Eddie run into TK and Carlos while on the job, they invite them over for dinner. TK and Carlos swear Buddie is dating, Eddie assures them they aren’t... or tries to anyway.
5. The Right Co-Star - Celebrity!Buddie faking dating AU. After some really bad publicity following the fight club, actor Eddie’s publicists suggests he needs to get some good publicity with a PR relationship. Eddie’s choice just so happens to be fellow actor, Evan Buckley.
6. Title TBD - Based off this post. Written from Ravi’s POV. Buck and Eddie get consistently jealous of how much time the other is spending with Ravi - on and off the job - even though they both have girlfriends. Ravi is growing tired of their oblivious codependency.
If you want to know more about them, or want a few short sentences, send me an ask. 💕

I am not worried about Eddie with Marisol. I think people need to remember that this is just him getting a feel for dating. He's said to Pepa he doesn't want marriage. He really doesn't know what he wants right now, but he knows what he doesn't, a serious relationship that leads to getting married. It seems like so many anons are just saying welp, that's it then, when it's not. Even IF Eddie starts dating her, it's going to be something casual. I think this whole thing about 911 giving these guys love interests at the very end of the season kind of them saying 'we don't know what to write for them while they date so let's just have them spend the summer together" while they up the next chain of events that will most likely break them up. I am with you in keeping the buddie light alive, and we still have one more episode to go. I hope you feel better and be safe. Sending you ❤️!
Even Buck confirmed that Eddie has never dated and therefore he doesn’t know how to date. So him dating people and getting a feel for that so he can then finally understand why they’re not really working out for him can be a great lesson. Dating doesn’t immediately equate to marriage. In this sense, dating someone like Marisol and realizing it’s lacking something can be an eye opener for Eddie. Regardless every single person we’ve met thus far as a potential LI for Eddie has and will pale in comparison to what he has with Buck. We know it and now we need to wait for Eddie to know it too. We need for Buck to also realize it himself. The actress who played Ali thought she was coming back for season 3 and they had them break up over the hiatus. What’s to say they don’t do that with Marisol too. Just the way she was reintroduced immediately ensures that she won’t be a long term or legitimate love interest ☺️

Thank you again to everyone who participated in the polls. All your votes and suggestions made for a very interesting episode! And now, I have a very special "episode recap/review" to share with y'all. I hope you enjoy!
Walker Bonus Episode recap/review:
Welcome back to another week of Walker fun. I sure didn’t expect this episode to come out right in the middle of the hiatus but I guess the Walker crew knew they couldn’t leave us without content forever. And, boy oh boy, was this one a doozy.
I want to start our recap off with the most lighthearted plotline before we get into the angsty meat of the episode: Ben and Liam’s 6-month anniversary date.
Liam and Ben have been together for about 6 months at this point and their relationships have been through a lot of ups and downs during that time. Liam knows most of those downs are a result of the drama that his family has been through recently and he wants to make all that up to Ben with a special 6-month anniversary date. And he’s pulling out all the stops. He’s got a reservation at Ben’s favorite restaurant and he’s arranged for a few surprises even before then, including the bouquet of flowers that shows up at Ben’s fine liquor store in the next scene.
Side note: I was absolutely cheesed to see the family dogs from the pilot again (although now I’m wondering what they’ve been up to all this time) but what was even better was Abby’s “stern talking to” when they stole the leftover breakfast bacon. We need more of that.
Cassie happened to be there for the flower delivery and after Ben weathers her sisterly teasing, we get a serious moment between them as Ben evaluates his relationship with Liam. He does like Liam and the rest of the Walker family and when things are good between them they’re really good. But being with Liam has also brought Ben pain. He admits to her that this special six month anniversary date feels more like Liam fumbling to compensate for neglecting their relationship these past few months rather than a genuine desire to celebrate a relationship milestone. He also admits that he’s been having second thoughts about their relationship. He wonders if he just latched onto Liam because of how much he was like Lucas and if he was really ready for something new.
Cassie can relate at least somewhat to his confusion since she’s had to quickly move from one relationship to another twice in the last year (from Miles to Cordell, then from Kevin to Trey). She may not know what Ben needs in this situation but she does know that Liam loves Ben. And even if Liam is just fumbling to make up for the last few months, that’s a sign that he knows he’s been dropping the ball and he wants to do better. She understands his worries but doesn’t think giving up on Liam is the right course of action right now. She tells him to just enjoy tonight for what it is and talk to Liam about his concerns in the morning.
Ben is still apprehensive but agrees to Cassie’s advice. It has been a while since he’s had a nice date, after all.
Flash forward to the date and things seem to be going well. Liam is happily listening to Ben’s stories about some of the crazy customers he has to deal with and occasionally offering Legal Advice. Both of them are enjoying themselves and it’s absolutely adorable.
Side note: I am such a sucker for couples feeding each other food more of this please.
But it can’t all be happy times. In typical Walker luck, their date is cut short by Cordell being stabbed no more than 10 feet away from them. Liam immediately goes over to help his brother while Ben calls 911. When the ambulance arrives, Liam is conflicted on where to go. He wants to know that Cordell is okay but he made a promise to Ben that tonight would be just about them. Ben, however, encourages him to go and even offers to come with and help keep the family updated. Relieved to have the decision made, Liam takes Ben up on his offer and they leave the restaurant hand in hand.
The next day, Ben invites Liam out for a picnic lunch, a callback to their first attempt at a date. Liam starts off their date by apologizing for what happened the night before, but Ben stops him. He has something he needs to say.
He starts off by bringing up some of the concerns he’s had about their relationship. But, as much as being with Liam is scary, he’s starting to understand how much it’s worth it. Because Liam does care, even if he’s bad at showing it. And Ben started falling for him long ago. Liam seems to be at a loss for words so he just kisses Ben instead.
Alright now that the fluff is out of the way, I want to talk about the next plotline: August speaking up again about how neglected he feels in the family dynamic.
From the earliest scenes of the episode, it’s clear that August is less than happy with how things are going between him and Cordell, especially in comparison to Stella. Despite Cordell’s previous attempts to make August feel acknowledged and appreciated, he still feels the rift between him and his father that doesn’t seem to be there for Stella. And he’s making that everyone else’s problem, with sarcastic and passive aggressive remarks left and right. Everyone seems to notice that something’s wrong…except for Cordell.
Side note: August’s short “oh me?” reaction when Cordell asks him his plans for the day is both funny and a little heartbreaking. Good jobe Kale.
Things come to a head when Stella decides to confront him on his attitude. When she asks him what the hell his problem is, he tells her that he’s annoyed yet again at their father’s blatant favoritism and specifically cites his differing reactions to their chosen life paths. To August, it’s extremely clear that Cordell cares more about Stella than him and he’s tired of letting himself be overlooked just to keep the peace. Stella tries to defend Cordell, pointing out that he’s been trying very hard and making an effort to be more present in their lives. “He’s come a long way since he abandoned us after Mom died.”
While her words may ring true for the viewers, they only incite further anger in August, who snaps back with a “And who’s fault is that?” He reminds Stella that it was her idea to set up the car accident where Cordell allegedly fell asleep at the wheel. This is what led to the family intervention and, ultimately, their father choosing to go off on that undercover mission in the first place.
Stella does try to defend her actions, pointing out that the reason everyone believed that whole lie (which August supported, in case he forgot that detail) was because Cordell was already pretty far off the rails and he probably would’ve fallen asleep at the wheel without their help. But, in the midst of their arguing, we see Cordell has been eavesdropping from the hallway and he is not happy about what he’s hearing.
He storms into the room and demands to know what, exactly, they’re talking about. Both kids are stunned into silence so Cordell asks directly if it’s true that that car accident where he fell asleep at the wheel was a set up. Stella confirms it and tries again to defend herself but Cordell cuts her off. There are no excuses that can make up for that.
We can tell that Cordell has a very long lecture and tirade to go on about how badly they screwed up here, but, right then, he gets a call from James. They’ve honed in on [mark’s] location and he needs to go into work now. He tells them that he’ll be back later to talk about this and neither of them are allowed to go anywhere until then. As he leaves, Stella seems confused and scared while August seems even more pissed off than before.
Now, let’s dive into the big meat of the episode: the case of the serial scammer.
The episode starts off with a morning routine montage from Cordell. As we watch him shower and get ready for his day, we get the sense that he’s happy. He’s started dating Geri (for real. again), his kids seem to be figuring out their lives
Side note: That shower scene was very indulgent and is just more proof that the writers know what the audience wants ;)
But his good mood can’t last forever as he gets a call from James to come into the office immediately before he’s even had breakfast James won’t tell him what’s going on but it sounds urgent so off he goes.
When he gets to HQ, we finally learn what the big fuss is and James’ attitude starts to make more sense.
The FBI is crawling all over the place and our dear friend special agent Graves has returned for a special case: A serial killer scammer. It’s one of the first ranger cases Walker and James worked on together and the trail went cold nearly 15 years ago. Or, more accurately, the case left Texas. Graves informs us that this scammer/killer (or at least someone following their MO) has been bouncing around the mainland states. Only recently did the activity return to Austin and, since James and Walker are the only ones with experience on the case, Gavres has no choice but to work with them.
Side note: Don’t worry, Graves. They probably weren’t happy to see you either.
Cassie and Trey are brought onto the case despite Graves’ objections and we’re filled in on the killer’s methodology. Essentially, this person would weasel their way into the confidence of a wealthy spinster or widow. At first, things seem fine. But then, the victim will start spending money at an alarming rate, leaving very little in her account. After a month of this activity, the victim will pass away peacefully but unexpectedly and their life insurance money will be sent to an account held under a name that no one in their circle recognizes. It’s a different name every time so it’s hard to track until a victim has been spotted. And even then, the money disappears before the FBI or even the bank notice suspicious activity.
As grim as the situation looks, Graves informs them that they already had a lead: Ms. Chastity De la Rouxe. Not only is she the first victim in Austin but she’s the first one to live through the attempted murder. She’s being looked after in a hospital for the time being but they will be allowed to speak with her soon. Cordell and Cassie are tasked with interviewing the victim while James and Trey stay behind to look over Ms. De la Rouxe’s contacts and correspondence over the last month to see if they can narrow in on a suspect.
When Cassie and Cordell arrive at Ms. De la Rouxe’s room, they find she’s not alone. Her good friend James Boncroft is right by her bedside to check up on her and keep her company.
Side note: MARK SHEPPARD!!!! That’s all.
Our rangers want to talk to the victim alone but James isn’t leaving and Chastity doesn’t mind his presence so they do their best with what they have. Unfortunately, the interview doesn’t yield much. Chastity can’t recall any strange figures coming into her life recently, she doesn’t want to discuss finances with them, and she doesn’t know what happened to her either. Despite being stuck in the hospital, she doesn’t suspect foul play. “I’m an old woman; I probably just ate or drank something that disagreed with me more than usual.” Cassie tries to press for more information but James stops her. He says it’s clear they’re just distressing his good friend and they should leave before he starts lodging complaints. Not wanting to give Graves anymore fuel against them, they leave.
As they walk out of the hospital, Cassie comments on James’s overprotectiveness. A bit odd, since he wasn’t listed on any of De la Rouxe’s known contacts. Cordell agrees that it’s suspicious but not enough to go off of just yet. They head back to HQ to see what James and Trey have come up with.
At HQ, the boys are also feeling a little frustrated since there’s so much information to weed through and almost none of it seems useful. But they did have a breakthrough as Trey found a trail of regular contact (over phone, chat, email, and more) with someone that’s not from her regular social circle. Unfortunately, the owner of the number and other accounts is using different names for each one. When Cordell and Cassie fill them in on what happened at the hospital, they figure James must be this new friend.
It’s still not a lot to go on but it’s enough for them to make him a suspect. The next step is to bring him in for questioning. Fortunately for them, one of James’ many credit cards was pinged at a restaurant in town. Looks like he’s entertaining a new victim. Going after him like this is a risky move but Graves wants to get things moving so off they go.
Cassie and Cordell go into the restaurant while other rangers and FBI agents stand guard. They try to approach it casually but, unfortunately, there’s no way to casually arrest someone or even bring them in for questioning.
James tries to stall with polite conversation, then notices the backup outside. He reacts quickly, grabbing the steak knife from the table and stabbing Cordell in the side before running off. Cassie is frozen for a moment over her partner, watching him bleed. James’ voice in the comms gets her moving again to go after their suspect. Liam rushes to his side and tries to stem the bleeding. As Cordell starts to fall unconscious, we get flashes of Liam’s face covered in blood and bruises, just like when they were held captive by Grey Flag.
We cut to the hospital. Cassie and Trey arrive to check on Cordell, all the while griping about how James got away. The slippery snake got away from all the guards they had posted. Trey wonders if some of them mistook him for a waiter and Cassie smacks him on the arm for his poor joke.
Cordell is still under medical sedation when they arrive but the doctors assure them and the family that he’ll be just fine. They just have him under to help him heal. He’ll be awake in a few hours and they just want him to take it easy for the next couple of weeks to keep the stitches intact.
While he’s sedated, we get a look into Cordell’s mind and it’s not pretty. We see flashes of clips of his time in captivity, most of which we’ve seen before, but much of the torture seems to be focused on the place he was stabbed this time around. After a bit, we hear Emily’s voice telling him to wake up and, after a few tries, it works.
Cordell wakes up with a start. We see Liam asleep in the chair next to his bed while Emily stands in the corner. She reprimands him for getting hurt so easily and reminds him he needs to be more careful in the field, especially since she’s not there for their family anymore. He jokes about not planning to get stabbed but understands her meaning. She kisses his forehead and he closes his eyes, leaning into the comfort. Then a nurse enters while on her rounds and he opens his eyes to find Emly gone.
The doctor is called in and tells him that he’s on the mend but he’ll need to take it easy for the next few days. He gets  a mandatory morning off the next day and a warning not to rip his stitches before being checked out and driven home by Liam.
The morning off does wonders for his injury but not for his mental health as all hell breaks loose with August (again). Fortunately for him, the FBI managed to get drone footage of James’s escape and followed it to a hideaway. It’s a great excuse for Cordell to leave the house and get some work done at the same time.
Despite orders from the doctor to take it easy, Cordell is more than happy to dive back into casework to get away from the family problems for a bit. He’s reminded by both Cassie and James repeatedly that he’s supposed to be acting as backup only as they get closer to James’s hiding place.
Side note: With as many times as they brought it up, we should’ve expected Cordell to break the rules
The SWAT team sent to pick up James reaches a point where their vehicles can no longer keep up with the terrain. They will have to continue on foot from this point forward, something Graves gripes about since it would give James opportunity to run away again.
While they’re making a game plan to canvas the area, Cordell notices they’re close to some stables. We see a lightbulb go off in his head. So does James. And he does not like where this is going.
Side note: The dialog here was so well written but it may as well have been “Walker, no!” “Walker, yes!”
Next thing we know, Walker’s on a horse, carefully trotting through the rough and rocky terrain. Following instructions from Graves, he carefully and stealthily moves toward the hideout, hoping to catch James by surprise.
Unfortunately, he’s seen and James makes a run for it. Fortunately, James only has his own two legs to move on. Cordell kicks up the pace and a true chase begins, ending with him lassoing James and declaring him under arrest.
Now that the bad guy has been caught, cuffed, and taken away, it’s time for Graves to leave again. She thanks our ranger crew for their hard work and stops by the ambulance where Cordell is getting his bandage reapplied to give him a special thanks before leaving. He seems just as surprised as we are to be receiving any decency from her but handles it well. He’s just ready to go home and have some dinner with his family.
And just like that, the moment that everything seems okay, we hear a gunshot from somewhere offscreen, then we cut to black. And thus ends another classic episode of Walker.
I have to say, this one was a wild one. From the charming serial killer to the big reveal in the family drama, this episode really kept me guessing. Mark Sheppard did an excellent job in his guest star role and I’m curious to see if his character will pop up again in the future. I’m happy that Ben and Liam were able to work through some of their issues. It makes me happy that the Walker writers seem committed to keeping their relationship strong and relevant. I’m also happy that the show hasn’t dropped the plotline of August feeling insignificant in his family. I know there aren’t a lot of places to work it in given the time constraints but it’s nice to see it acknowledged. I really wasn’t expecting the car crash secret to ever come up but I kind of like the way they did it.
All in all this was a solid episode. 9/10.
