BestFriend!Chishiya has been watching you closely ever since that one day, posing as the ever so unbothered best friend of yours, who was, in no way, interested in what happened nor what it could mean to you. Things are supposed to feel normal. Boring. As black and white as ever. Just the two of you. As friends. But that wasn’t the case anymore, at least not for you.
BestFriend!Chishiya eyes lay carefully on your figure, while you are pretty much slumped over your homework. You feel his stare. At least you think you do, cause every time you look up, his brown chocolate orbs, framed by peroxide blond strands, are focused on his books instead and it confuses you. A lot. Are you going crazy?
BestFriend!Chishiya knows it does and he also knows that you can feel him starring right into your soul. It amuses him how you react. Thought it only animates him to do it more often and see how far he could drive you up the wall. You, on the other hand feel like you can’t trust your own instincts anymore. Whenever you look up, sure to catch his attention on yourself, only for it to be somewhere else, he does grand you with a tired look of his own, asking less interested “Is there something?” only for you to shake your head and return to your notes and scribbles of halfhearted done work.
In the past, you were always sure when BestFriend!Chishiya was staring at you. You caught him but it was ok because it was nothing than just a game. You were confident to know when he tried to poke you with his mind directely and see if you react, but now, after that fateful day, your instincts seem to play with you, or does he? You believe to know when his eyes roam your body, but as soon as you look up, you are only met by his presence, not his attention. You can’t help but think, maybe, just maybe, it is just in your head.
Perhaps you wish for BestFriend!Chishiyas attention? Maybe, after what he asked of you, so blatant, so easy, but still so consequential, it toys with your head? It can’t be. Shouldn’t be. Wont. BestFriend!Chishiya isn’t this kind of person. You have never seen him interested in anyone, beside his work and some side projects, but persons? Actual Human beings? Not if it didn’t benefit his future career or any other entertainment, so even if he looks at you. Even if your mind isn’t playing games on you and making you see and feel things that aren’t there. Even if. It doesn’t matter because he surely sees you with no different eyes than before.
BestFriend!Chishiya says “Speak up”, ripping you out of your thoughts and this time, when you do look up, his attention is undeniably on you “Huh?” you ask confused, tho you have a feeling what he meant “You haven’t asked me to help you with your homework yet, but I can see from here that most of it is either incorrect or so farfetched, it’s not rhetorical anymore, but a fable”
BestFriend!Chishiya watches you lower your gaze, playing the dumb one, what isn’t that hard, since compared to him, you are practically dumb “I have no idea what you are talking about”
BestFriend!Chishiya grabs your book and notes, turning it towards himself and scans thru it, before a smirk appears on his handsome face. Did you just think handsome? Oh god no… “Who is axelot the great? Any why did he conquer your pants?”
BestFriend!Chishiya admires your confused face as you take your book back from him, reading over your notes and mentally slapping your head at least 5 times. You know that your brain isn’t fully there. More likely over the place, just like your mind. Every sentence you read, needed to be re-read at least 5 times before it sunk halfway in, what made you slower than usual but such errors? That was truly stupid, and you feel your cheeks flush and palms getting sweaty at the realization, just how far away your thoughts had been during homework.
“Didn’t know your pants can be conquered” mocked BestFriend!Chishiya amused and you flash him daggers, words shaky as you open your mouth, wanting to bark at him, but what comes out is barely above a whisper “Shut up”
BestFriend!Chishiya notes with amusement your obvious embarrassment. It can be captured with a camera, that’s how evident it is. So you give up, for the day, scrambling your papers together, wanting nothing more than to leave this uncomfortable situation. The Last days you have done nothing but waiting for something to happen. A sign, that what happened, did happen and wasn’t just a dream or something. That it was real, but BestFriend!Chishiya has gone back to his usual self so fast, you almost got whiplash from it.
It is like all you two did, all BestFriend!Chishiya did, with you, all the touches and words and everything was nothing more than an illusion and it makes you crazy. It makes you question yourself if you have gone insane and dreamed it all up. After all he never lost a word about it, never brought it up, never asked how you felt after his hands had touched every piece of skin, no matter where. And as if he hasn’t made you touch him. Him. It!!!
BestFriend!Chishiya stops your actions, taking your book right out of your arms and opening it at the last page he read one movement ago. It impresses you every time how perfect he does things. How nothing he makes, ever contained any failures. No step ever went into the wrong direction and no word was less correct than the ones before and all that followed.
BestFriend!Chishiya was perfect. His whole actions always had been, but now, it is like the colors he forced you to see, also reflect on him in a way, that makes you see more of him. Truly him. Not just your best friend. More of how perfect his body is. How manly he is. Why did you never see him like that before? Is it because until that day, BestFriend!Chishiya was nothing but a friend and not a guy? And seeing his sex made you realize he was one all along? Is one.
No, that was wrong. BestFriend!Chishiya is no guy, he is a man. There is no way just a guy could be so talented with his hands like BestFriend!Chishiya was. No guy is so gifted like him in certain places, no one and yes you looked the average up on the internet afterwards. BestFriend!Chishiya is certainly not one of them. He is so…big.
BestFriend!Chishiya proceeds to correct your writing as if it was nothing to him and with a totally collected appearance. Like your stupidity is no problem at all. Like all of this is just an everyday happening. And it makes you angry that he treats it that way. Then again, it also makes you angry that you feel the way you do and the emotions that you shouldn’t feel. Then again, can you really blame him for the thoughts you have and the way he faces them?
BestFriend!Chishiya made sure, that day, what his action meant for him, beforehand and you knew that. You agreed to it and now, you have the audacity to be angry he doesn’t feel more? That his mind isn’t as scattered as yours. Unable to focus on simple tasks. How fucked up are you exactly?
You sit down again, giving up on your intentions of leaving. It would only throw off questions like why and to be honest you can’t really answer them correctly without admitting your messy brain, so you give up and look at him instead. Really look at him, up and down, trying to see what really changed about him, because you feel like a lot did, but then again, also nothing. BestFriend!Chishiya is still just him, and way more. Gosh your mind is truly a mess. You can’t even think straight!
“You are starring” No question, no reminder of your unnatural behavior, just an obvious statement and you smile. Sure, a lot has changed, but BestFriend!Chishiya was still the same in many ways, after all.
“I was thinking.”
BestFriend!Chishiya chuckles, his eyes not leaving the book in his hands. Red pencil correcting every mistake of yours like a teacher. But a handsome one “About?”
“Just” you start but interrupt yourself, because the words in your mouth seem like another elusive explanation instead of the truth “I thought…no I questioned myself…did it really happen?”
“Did what really happen?” BestFriend!Chishiya makes a big X over a whole paragraph of your writing and you swallow. This action makes you rethink your words again. Your sentences made sense to you when you wrote them down, but to see how wrong they are now, makes you self-conscious of your ability to judge the situation rightfully. Probably, you are wrong after all. Have you gone insane?
“You know what.”
“I don’t” says BestFriend!Chishiya nonchalantly, another paragraph falling victim to his sharp eyes. You highly doubt his statement, looking at him with a bitch please expression.
“Don’t play dumb. It's not convincing.”
BestFriend!Chishiya stops his actions. He freezes in his position for what felt like minutes. Red pencil in his right hand, head lowered, gaze towards your work. Completely in his element and still. Time froze him up. Or maybe you did? “Do you really not know…what I mean?” you ask, words stuttering again, but this time your tone was at least content. Demanding an answer. Or was no answer the actual one?
BestFriend!Chishiya sighs heavily. Head rising, massaging his nape, he finally turns to you, with the oh so familiar playful smile on his face “I do know what you mean” This isn’t enough. You need him to say it out loud, so it was clear, the two of you are talking about the same thing. You need him to admit it in a full sentence that it really really happened.
“And what is that?” you ask, swallowing nervously. BestFriend!Chishiya doesn’t miss is. The way your breath picks up. How your chest raises with anticipation, expecting his answer, and hoping for the right one “I asked you to undress for me. Then I touched you on places that seems like you haven’t showed anyone else before me. At least your reaction to this whole topic tells me this” if possible, your heart races even more, lungs hitching like a broken-down car. You bite your bottom lip, unbeknown to yourself, but BestFriend!Chishiya sees it and cant refrain from smirking amused “Then you expected me to be turned on by your naked body and I tried to make you understand that it takes more than just some skin and flash to truly…excite me”.
You say nothing. Thoughts racing in your mind, BestFriend!Chishiya sees all the wheels turning, so he adds casually “Ah. That’s right, there was something else, I forgot. You touched me too. Or did I make you touch me? Who knows?”
BestFriend!Chishiya takes your silence as an invitation to lean forward and the fact that you don’t back away, is enough for him to proceed “Wanna see it again?” your eyes widen “Last time you barely got the chance to take in the sighed. Must have been your first time seeing one in real life, hm?”
BestFriend!Chishiya notices how you chew on your poor lip, unsure what to answer. If you should even answer at all, but you can’t help yourself from looking down at his hidden sex. The picture of it was engraved in your mind, never able to forget. Ever. Even if you wanted to. Do you want to? Who knows. However, you did somehow crave for your fingers to feel him again. Want to explore him the way he did with you. But your thoughts are focused only on one of his parts and BestFriend!Chishiya knows it by the way you eye his lower body, trying to undress him with your mind and feel every blue vain around the limb flash, meandering a way to its pink head “All you have to do is ask” BestFriend!Chishiya whispers, watching with delight how your fingers twitch with expectancy “You know. Like I did”
Your eyes rip from his dark pants when you are sure, no when you could swear you saw something move inside. Could it be? BestFriend!Chishiya sees how shocked you are at this realization, questioning if you really saw what you saw and it pleased him. The plea in your eyes, the black of your pupils widening to it extant with want, maybe even lust? He has no time to find out, because something scared you so much, you stumble practically to your feet, shoving everything you can get in one move inside your backpack and swinging it over your shoulder, rushing out of his room and with that out of his apartment, but before you are out the door, you hear BestFriend!Chishiya shout to you “Write me when you are home. I will bring your book with me tomorrow” and this was all that was said, before you were out and on your way home.
At home, no one asks you why you look so over the places. No one realizes how dirty your thoughts are and you don’t want to tell them, until you lay in bed, with your pajama on and damp hair from the quick shower, holding your smartphone clutched to your chest.
BestFriend!Chishiya. You forgot to write him. Or more like you didn’t forget but you pushed it aside, hoping to. The universe isn’t on your side tho, cause while lying around like that, you felt bad that maybe he could be worried about you, and you made him feel like that intentional.
BestFriend!Chishiya looks at his phone when the familiar ping sound of his notification chimes. He sits on his bed with his laptop on his folded legs, scrolling thru news all over the world and his mind taking in all the information’s like a sponge sucking up water. When he sees the message is from you, he smirks mischievous and moves the electronic device from his body, sinking deeper into his pillows.
YOU: Sorry I forgot to text you YOU: Been kind of busy since I got home

Hi. So uhm, i havent been on here for a while, and i don’t think i will be going on here anymore. I know theres probably no more than 3 people reading this, but thats okay. This is probably my last post on here. Thank you to everyone who has read my stuff. I really appreciate it. I enjoyed writing stuff. I just think that im not so interested in alice in borderland anymore. Thank you @thee-yunatic-pixie for helping me, and i am so grateful. So, yeah. Here’s the last thing i wrote, and i hope its not too bad. I hope you can look back at my first post, and look here, as it is my last, and think i improved. I didnt check the spelling, or grammar, or really anything related to it, but it hope you can understand the events, and stuff. This is also a wip, so uh thats why it sounds kinda unfinished?
“I’m envious of you.” Chishiya said. And, right there, Chishiya felt the thing he hated the most. And that, that thing, was disappointment. During the game, his expression was very condescending. Very prideful. However, that and his smirk fell with the acid. He always knew. Of course he did. He always knew that whenever he manipulated people into sacrificing themselves for him, their death wouldn’t hold significance (?). Chishiya would just go on and live his life, not acknowledging them at all. Yet, never once, did he feel disappointed in himself in doing so. It was not until now. Whether it was because Kuzuryuu accepted it, or just because, it felt different. As Chishiya got up, and began to walk away, he paused. He looked back at the table, his eyes landing on the seat across from his. The seat which the man he was talking to just minutes ago had sat. And, for the first time, Chishiya felt a sharp jab of remorse; of empathy pierce through his chest.
Even before Kuzuryuu sacrificed himself, Chishiya saw people do selfless things left, and right, yet, Chishiya never could wrap his head around why. Why would you help somebody who never helped you? And, even if they did, shouldn’t it always be yourself before others?
Chishiya sat there for hours, physically idle. Yet, his mind was quite the opposite. He was trying to figure out what his problem was. If so many people were kind-hearted, and selfless, then the only logical explanation, would be that it was something to do with him. And so, the boy did not allow his mind to rest. Not for a second. Not even when the rain began to fall.
Every day, Chishiya would walk by his dad’s room, taking a quick glance. However, he saw the same thing, over, and over again. He would be facing that computer of his, with books piled around him. The only time it was different, was when the room was empty. Even when his dad was in there, it felt not much different than when it was empty.
Usually, Chishiya would have stopped thinking about it here, but this time, he did not allow himself to. He then realized that the problem was not rooted in his past, but rather, in his, for lack of a better word, morals. He figured many people had been through the same thing, and worse, but did not act the way Chishiya did.
See, Chishiya’s morals were: Nobody cared about me, so I’m not going to care about anybody. Including myself.
But for the other people who decided to act differently, their morals were: Nobody cared about me, so I’m going to care about everybody.
And, with that, he got up, once again, and took a walk. Chishiya decided from that point, that he would try a little harder. And, I suppose, be a better person.      “I won’t be able to get proper treatment in this country.” Chishiya sighed. Although he felt a small sting, the pain hadn’t kicked in. He heard Arisu and Usagi talking, yet he could not process what it was that they were talking about. Then, the stinging went to his nose, and before he knew it, the stinging turned into more of a tingle. After that, well, I suppose Chishiya would have liked to tell you it was a drop of rain that fell near his eyes, but that was not the case.      The sun started to set, and Chishiya hadn’t moved an inch.
“Because of you, I finally got to live my life the way I wanted to. Thank you, Chishiya.”      This time, when Chishiya recalled these words, it was not disappointment he felt, but happiness, and maybe a drop or two of peace.
Chishiya saw a burst of blue, then red, then many other colors following. The light lit up everything. The sky, the buildings, everything. Then, he heard a loud voice over the PA. “Now, all remaining players must decide if they accept permanent residency in this land, or if they do not accept.”     Chishiya stared at the ceiling, listening to the faint voice on the radio (if thats the word for it). It was listing names. Names of people who had died in the crash. “Kotoko Shiga, Urumi Aramaki, Keiichi Kuzuryuu-” Chishiya froze. Keiichi Kuzuryuu. The name sounded familiar. Painfully familiar. Chishiya could have sworn he had heard it before. He had no clue where, but it was somewhere. Somewhere. A place he had been in for a long time. It was so unclear to him about where it was, and what it was, but it felt so vivid at the same time.      ❤️

niragis speech on humanity: opinions?
introduction
hey tumblr, im back again. this time, to talk about a well known scene from season one of alice in borderland. sorry guys, still no manga. anyway, lets jump right into what todays topic is actually going to be; niragis speech on humanity.
this speech is played out before 10 of hearts / witch hunt as usagi is held down onto a bed while niragi proceeds to sexually assault her and attempted rape which is interrupted by the starting of witch hunt. what do i have to say about this speech? lets take a look.
niragis speech
"predisposition. when left alone, man is a creature that plunders, rapes, kills. so shouldn't we revel in it? what's wrong with living our true selves?" this is exactly what he says (source is aliceinborderland.fandom.com - niragi suguru quotes)- i wont sugarcoat it. obviously, he says some interesting things in this. lets debunk it.
debunking the speech
predisposition. from the cambridge dictionary, predisposition is described as the state of being likely to behave in a particular way or to suffer from a particular disease. this is pretty self explanatory for his statement, but just so it lines up lets talk about the second portion.
“when left alone, man is a creature that plunders, rapes, kills. so shouldnt we revel in it?”  this is obviously referring to human nature; people act a certain way because its part of human nature. no matter if its right or wrong, it will always be a part of humanity. he is unmistakably right. i can say this from experience; when people are given the opportunity to things like rape, sa, plunder, and kill, they will do it. i was sexually assaulted by two of my exes because in that position/relationship i was vulnerable and they had their opportunity. we see people steal everyday, even post about it online. hundreds to thousands of deaths happen every year by murder. nor right or wrong, what niragi says in that line is true.  to top this section off, he says “so shouldnt we revel in it?” taken the time and opportunity he has, he will obviously revel in it during borderland. i mentioned this in my niragi analyzation post a bit down my page; when people like him and guaranteed many other people are given the opportunity to do illegal things, they will do it. while it isnt RIGHT, its an opportunity and i can confirm that a lot of people will take that chance to do it.
“whats wrong with living our true selves?” i said this before, and i will say it again. there is a LOT wrong with doing the things he mentions. but as he says, its human nature and there are people who will do bad when given the opportunity with no consequences. imagine how many crimes would be committed if laws were just stripped of humanity; because like niragi says, the sad but real truth, it is human nature.
final opinions/conclusion
so, now that ive debunked the entire quote, its time for my conclusion. is niragi right? yes and no. he is correct that mankind will do bad when given the opportunity (how many times have i even said this word..). however, he is not right about living with true human nature. there is a reason the things he listed are illegal, and i hope you guys know why i shouldnt have to explain that. to put it short, i think hes partially right. he has the right perspective on society, but not the right mindset. i thoroughly add to this reasoning in my niragi analyzaiton post if youd like more information on his character.
thats all for today. lmk if you guys have anything you would like me to cover/analyze!! bye <3

Reader’s Corner: Solo Leveling, My Special One, and Alice in Borderland
Oh, the games we play! In our everyday lives, “playing games” could refer to video games or board games or, more figuratively, relationship games. But the world of manga knows no bounds, and such games may involve being dropped into an Alice in Wonderland-like dimension. Or it could mean playing matches against gods with a cute goddess right by one’s side. And they could be contests that put lives at stake. This week on “Reader’s Corner,” we dive into a variety of “games” in our reviews as we look to releases both old and new.
Alice in Borderland (Vol. 4) • Gods’ Games We Play (Vol 1) • Megaman NT Warrior (Vol. 1) • My Sister, The Cat (Vol. 1) • My Special One (Vol. 1) • Puella Magi Oriko Magica: The Complete Omnibus Edition • Solo Leveling (Vol. 6)
-----
My Sister, The Cat, Manga Vol. 1
When I first heard about the title My Sister, The Cat, I laughed and brushed it off because “What kind of strange premise is that?” Well, Past Me, it’s a very funny one, and you shouldn’t be so quick to judge titles and skip them! Ha! Indeed, the premise of this manga is unique because Nekota has lost his mother, and when no family members will take him in, one of his mom’s good friends offers a place in their family. However, said family just happens to be a family of cats whose daughter absolutely adores our human hero and desperately wants him to be her big brother. My decision to pick up this manga was completely inspired by my four-year-old daughter who loves cats, and I’m honestly glad I decided to give it a chance because of her. It was super cute and a very lighthearted read, with the occasional serious vibe sprinkled in at the end. I’m not sure why only the mother talks, but I absolutely love when Neneko-chan wants to make her brother smile. Her antics are so adorable because she has the cutest and funniest expressions that really make you smile at how much she loves him! While there isn’t a lot of “depth” to this story, I found I smiled often and really enjoyed my time reading it! I have volume two on pre-order because this is one of those feel-good stories you pick up every once in a while when you need something fun and cheerful! ~ @lauraagrace
My Sister, The Cat is published by Seven Seas.
Puella Magi Oriko Magica: The Complete Omnibus Edition, Manga
Taking place between the fourth and fifth timelines of the Madoka Magica universe, Puella Magi Oriko Magica adds a new, dark chapter to the franchise. But any intrigue that this story might have is outweighed by the messiness on display throughout the tale. Oriko Magica introduces three new magical girls, two of whom, as Kyoko and Mami discover, are seemingly involved in killing other mahou shoujo. There’s a heavy focus on these two new girls, both with respect to their tragic backstories and their dependence on one another. But while we as readers are supposed to be equal parts appalled by their actions and sympathetic towards them, each character is lacking in elements that would help create the necessary empathy. Kirika is full of energy but her backstory is flimsy, while the titular Oriko has a tragic event in her past but no personality to speak of. Meanwhile, a third new character, a young magical girl Yuma, plays a major role at first—particularly as a foil to Kyoko—but then ends up functioning as an intentional distraction in this story. It’s a strange, unnecessary addition. Also out of place are Sayaka, Madoka, and Homura: while they are vital to explain the purpose of the events in this story, they feel like messy add-ons. I’m never quite sure what it is they’re up to or doing. The artwork doesn’t either. Illustrated in a cute but off-kilter style, the aesthetic is different but fitting for Madoka, but the quality of the art varies and doesn’t portray the action very well. The entire story, really—both in plot and art—was like looking through glasses that aren’t magnified quite enough for one’s vision issues; nothing was ever quite clear. The side story additions in the last third of the collection help fill out the tale a bit, but by the point I had reached them, I was already through with this below-average addition to a great franchise. ~ @animepopheart

Megaman NT Warrior, Manga Vol. 1
Living in a world where everything is digitally connected sounds comfortable, right? Everything is efficient and on time, and we just make sure things are running smoothly. Well, wait till viruses start disrupting daily activities like school, hospitals, businesses and any other sector that people use! Thankfully, there are Netops like Lan Hikari (remember LAN parties?) and his Net Navi Mega Man [Should it be “Megaman” like the title? – Ed.] to delete these digital critters. The manga doesn’t give much backstory for the world it’s set in; even though I have watched the anime adaptation, I would have liked a little more explanation. It had some slow parts, and this volume is broken up into short episodes that aren’t tied together. I would have liked it to be more of an introduction to the characters; instead, it seems disorganized and doesn’t flow well. If you are a fan of the series as I am, I believe you will enjoy this one as it takes characters like GutsMan, FireMan, Dr. Wily, and Roll and recreates them so that they are familiar but still new. Give at least volume one a try and see if it’s for you—though this is an old manga, so you likely will have to find it used somewhere as I did. ~ Samuru

Gods’ Games We Play, Light Novel Vol. 1
When it stays the path, focusing on its identity as a battle-of-wits light novel, Gods’ Games We Play is an engaging, heavenly read; but in those few moments that it strays, the series about human “apostles” who compete in televised matches against the gods falls back to earth. Thankfully, it rarely drifts into that territory. Right from the start—when “former” god Leshea and top rookie apostle Fay team up after realizing they are equally excited about playing high-stakes games—the novel balances cute characters, an exciting but not-too-serious tone, and interesting games and strategies. The duo participates in three matches: one with each other and two teaming up with others in official matches against the gods. The games are described well, and the volume is very visual: I could picture them in great detail (the recently announced anime adaptation should be a natural fit). It’s just a joy to read. The only drawback is when the series goes the route of thousands of other properties and turns to fanservice, small boob jokes, and harem-building. Not only are these passages derivative, but they’re also done better elsewhere (almost everywhere else, in fact). Here’s hoping future volumes focus on the games that gods play, rather than on the ecchi. ~ @animepopheart

My Special One, Manga Vol. 1
Although My Special One wasn’t a series very high on my radar, after reading this first volume, it definitely has the strong potential to be in my top five of favorite shojo series this year! Sahoko, our heroine, tells off a famous Japanese idol, Kouta, in her family’s restaurant where she works: when he displayed affection for her, thinking she was one of his fans, she needed him to know she was not one of his fans. She had vowed to herself to never fall for a gorgeous man because of a past experience, but that vow will certainly be put to the test when Kouta continues to come back to her family’s restaurant time and time again. As adamant as she is that she won’t fall in love with him, he seems to be just as adamant that he will get her to fall for him (as a fan) with his shining charisma and personality. Sahoko is a fun and refreshing heroine to follow because she is sooooo adamant she will never fall for a gorgeous guy (even less an idol—HA!). I very much enjoyed the progression of her character growth and her feelings as the story went on, especially in her thoughts toward Kouta. Speaking of, Kouta surprised me just as much as he did Sahoko! I quickly found myself rooting for these two and very much desperate looking forward to the next volume! I highly recommend this new series to those who like contemporary romances, seeing the behind-the-scenes of idols, and fun stories that are easy to read! ~ @lauraagrace
My Special One is published by VIZ Media. It releases on February 7th.
Alice in Borderland, Manga Vol. 4
In volume four, Alice in Borderland continues to deliver surprises. Not only in death match games, but more unexpectedly by displaying humanity in inhuman circumstances, pulling on our heartstrings even for characters we only get to know briefly, and putting main character Arisu through a crisis when he seems to be on the point of a personal breakthrough. The setting for all the emotional drama is the end of the beach arc, in which the beach utopia has devolved into violence as the players search for the witch. The answer to who and why are supremely satisfying. I continue to be caught off guard by how gracious mangaka Haro Aso is to his readers. He gives us solutions. He gives us heart. And in volume four, he gives us a ton of answers as to what this world is all about, as the story transitions into a brand new set of circumstances that bring added excitement to the series that might otherwise have fallen short of topping the grandiosity of the last arc. I’m thrilled to see where the games go now, and even more so, how Arisu and the others continue to develop as they make their way through this harshest of worlds. What a journey it’s been! ~ @animepopheart

Solo Leveling, Novel Vol. 6
Things have finally gotten “real” in Solo Leveling. Despite the non-stop and excellent action in the previous five novels, the actual story for Solo Leveling has only revealed itself in bits; but in volume six, it blows right open, establishing the real conflict hinted at previously. It’s a wonder to imagine that the adrenaline in the previous volumes came basically from just world building and mining for Jin Woo as he increases his strength to a level to fight the real bad guys in this series. This installment opens with Jin Woo fighting giants in Japan and then coming to the U.S. as mysteries involving the gates and the Rulers quickly unravel. It isn’t unusual for novels and manga to go off the rail when the larger story comes into focus and more powerful enemies become involved; but both the track record for Solo Leveling and this volume itself demonstrate that author Chugong can handle it and continue to deliver material that will have you unable to do anything else until you’ve finished the chapter you’re on (and then the next chapter…and the next). That’s not to say that the web novels are perfect. Jin Woo is still a difficult character to root for, making selfish choices and seemingly only doing the right thing out of a sense of duty (though—and without giving too much away—this seems to be an angle that Chugong will take advantage of in later volumes). Even more cumbersome is that the entire series is Korean propaganda. With Korean media becoming so widespread internationally, readers may be used to this tone; but even as a Korean-American, I rolled my eyes a dozen times at how pro-Korean this particular volume was (matching the previous one), with Jin Woo moving on from traditional adversary Japan to embarrass big brother America. But other than that, Solo Leveling continues to be as enthralling as it ever was. ~ @animepopheart

(On points raised in the critiques, or recent revelations I’ve made):
Emotional distance- not only referring to separation vs inclusion devices mentioned in the game, but emotional distance as a way of representing the whole ‘atmosphere’ of the game. It impacts how the viewer feels when they encounter it, feeling unwelcome or watched, or as if they aren’t allowed to participate.
The chairs are prompts for ‘sitting’, however how can I make it feel as if you are not welcome to sit on them, that they are reserved for players only?
Think carefully about inclusion and exclusion prompts, what can you touch, what is forbidden? I always think about Alice in Wonderland and the bottles and cakes that say ‘eat me’, ‘drink me’. How can I do the reverse of that and, without explicitly saying, make people feel like they shouldn’t touch that. I’m already half way there because of circumstances, being in a gallery setting already has established rules around touching. But board-game pieces are designed to be touched and fondled and enjoyed, a dice is meant to be thrown, so how can I subvert that?
From the beginning, with my introduction, I said that I was interested in the ‘emotional coolness’ of pop art, this sense of disconnection (or false connection) between the viewer and work. I still stand by this idea, however I also like the charm of boardgames, and how everyone has their own personal or nostalgic connection to them. I want people to look at my work and turn to their friend and say “this reminds me of this”, “this looks like that game we used to play”, “that looks like my old character”. I love contradictions because it causes tension, how can I make my work both inviting and uninviting at the same time? How could I make the viewer feel slightly excluded from the ‘conversation’ happening between the players and characters at this table?
Boardgames are obviously associated with ‘family fun!’ And friendly social activities, which is why I have become really interested in the death-game TV show genre (Squid Games, Escape Room, Alice in Borderland), which flips that narrative on its head. A game becomes a death-match, or competition. They often involve some sort of Faustian bargain, trading your life in for eternal knowledge, fame, or riches. The game room becomes tense, your senses are heightened, don’t touch anything, don’t trigger anything, assume that everything is placed meticulously and has some sort of meaning to it. Observe, but do not touch. The archetypes of heroes and villains are quickly distinguished in life or death situations.
Visual aesthetic:
For a while I wasn’t able to make up my mind on the aesthetic and style of the installation, I was torn between two options: 1) to go for a more accessible, laid-back, almost hand-crafted approach, to honour DND players who create their own game. The shelf would’ve stayed the natural wood colour, with a glossy sheen. The board-game mats would be hand-cut thick card. Everything would have an earthy, natural tone, overall having this calmer, more inviting look. And 2) is to honour my interest in commercial shop design and technology: laser-cut board-game mats of clear perspex, the shelf would be painted white and sanded to perfection, plastic, glossy materials would be primary.
For some reason I really struggled with my decision, but now I only see one clear winner. The idea of ‘emotional distance’ only strengthens my decision further. There is nothing that destabilises the geeky, fantasy aesthetic of a DND game than presenting it in a highly commercial, sterile way. I’ve always found the whiteness of a gallery, and my plinths, really cold and uncomfortable, so I was worried about the idea of painting my shelf white. But when my intention is to make people feel slightly uncomfortable, then presenting it in this way would be useful. I’m also really interested in laser-cutting the backing boards, seeking perfection through the use of technology. Raises another contradiction that I like! 3D printing and laser cutting ensure a ‘perfect’ finish. But, on the other hand, using artificial intelligence to construct my images has only brought uncanny accidents. I like this tension between seeking perfection, and embracing flaws- it’s a challenge for myself as the artist and a perfectionist, but I’ve realised that these unexpected moments are important. The project involves a constant push and pull of me asserting my own control, and me allowing for mistakes to carry the project.
Prompts between player, Watcher, and Dungeon Master.
The player seats (related to the Aggressor and Victim) need to have an arrangement of gaming paraphernalia to act as prompts for ‘play’.
Dice, character cards, character pieces, tokens, information sheets. Teams- something that connects each teammate to one another? Think about this- is it just the God that they are playing for, or something else?
The Watcher seat (on the end of the table opposite to the DM) needs to be taller than the other chairs, a stall perhaps? Something modest and unimportant- ‘The Thinker’ sculpture. The Watcher isn’t a God motivated by luxury. Simplicity and unoriginality is core to his ideologies.
The Dungeon Master (the architect’s seat), on the other hand, would need to stand out clearly as the most important and influential seat. Perhaps a CEO style chair, with a very high, plushed backing? Or a dining room chair that is tall and heavy.

。・°°・°°・。 。・°°・°°・。 。・°°・°°・。
New things are stupid.
Well, stupid may not be the right word, more like downright terrifying and awkward.
Do you remember when you were a kid and your parents forced you to eat vegetables for the first time? Seeing the green tree giant going towards your mouth, even though it was just a vegetable, you saw it as this scary, nasty thing trying to break your personal bubble.
Not that Chishiya's current new thing is nasty or a vegetable, but it's still undeniably nerve-wracking. All you did was kiss his cheek. There shouldn't be a problem, but there is.
You would think that Chishiya would get accustomed to this by now after three months. He realized you were a physically affectionate person way before you started dating. Nothing too wrong - just high fives and hugs that last a little longer than needed (in Chishiya's opinion). But you never precisely gave him any of your physical affections until you started dating.
He shouldn't feel like electricity blossomed under your lips when it touched his cheek. He shouldn't flush and become incredibly cold even though it's nearly 80 degrees out.
But he did.
You kissed him on the cheek because Chishiya defended you against some assholes that said you were just using Chishiya. You and Chishiya knew better, though.
If anything, your strength was getting used by him. He wasn't, though. You are probably the first person in this God-forsaken place he hasn't actually used. He felt weird about it at first, having someone close by that he wasn't using for some type of gain. He was just… intrigued. Dare he say it.
Intrigued until that feeling turned to captivation, crushes happened, and now you're both here. Standing awkwardly near The Beach pool. With Chishiya starting at you like you are from another planet because you kissed your boyfriend's cheek.
Your smile soon vanished when you realized this, and it turned downward. You've been trying to get close to Chishiya in one of the only ways you know-how. Physical affection has always been your thing. Your family loved giving a kiss on both sides of the cheek and hugging as much as possible to show their appreciation. You just naturally took after them with these affections.
Chishiya, on the other hand, seems like he hates any of your affections. You've realized this early on when he would jump away from your attempts to hug him or have a flushed face from any of your aimed kisses, just like now. This is just the first time your aimed kisses met their mark.
"Chishiya, you okay?"
Chishiya blinks. "Ugh. Yeah - gotta go. D-do something."
Then he runs away to "do something." You huff out a sign and watch him practically run out of the pool area. He's away hiding before you can even blink twice. Running away seems to be a famous theme for this too. Even if your hands were too graze each other by accident, time for Chishiya to “do something.”
It's not that Chishiya doesn't want your affections. It's just that he's never experienced them before. He's come from a family that's way of showing their appreciation is by saying "do better" and pointing out all his flaws so he can do just that. Since he hasn't experienced these affections before, how is he supposed to act? Is he supposed to do it back? Say thank you? He doesn't have a clue.
And what if you decide one day… to kiss him on the lips.
Of course, you both would eventually. Chishiya's not detested to the idea, not even in the slightest. He's just scared. Scared he'll fuck up and become an awkward mess. Just like he did now.
When Chishiya returns to his room, he smacks himself on the forehead and groans. "What the fuck was that?" He then slides down the door and stops when he hits the carpet. "Why can't I just be normal?"
No more than five minutes later, he hears a knock at the door. Chishiya whips his head out of his hands and stands up to face the door. He breathed a sigh of relief when he realized it was probably just Kuina. She usually comes by to talk strategy the day before a game.
When he opens the door, though, it's not Kuina. It's you.
Chishiya's jaw goes slack, and his eyes widen. You've never chased after him before. Granted, this situation hasn't happened much, but you wouldn't say or do anything each time he would run or jump away from your advances. You would usually just frown and be cruel into yourself.
Fuck, Chishiya. That's not a better alternative!
"Hi," You say with a half-smile. Chishiya doesn't say anything, though. Just stares at you with both embarrassment and confusion written on his face. You knew when you found him he would be embarrassed about what happened. You decided after he left the pool area that enough was enough. You were going to have a conversation about this. No more running away.
With that thought, you waltz into his room. You don't care that you're being rude by not getting permission to enter. This is your boyfriend's room, and formalities be damned.
"Um, Y/n, what are you doing here?" You stare at Chishiya with determination, watching him fidget under your stare. He's never like this around anyone else. Hell, you've never even seen this man sweat around anyone else. But right now, in front of you, Chishiya is a sweating mess.
"Chi, we need to talk."
Chishiya's eyes double in size, and he feels his knees almost buckle underneath him. Are they going to break up with me? Is it because I ran away? Do they think I'm not interested in them anymore? These questions fly around in his head, but instead of voicing his thoughts, he just says, "Okay."
You sit down on the edge of his bed, then on the spot next to you, you pat it to indicate you want him to sit. So he does. You turn your body to face him. He does the same.
"Chishiya, is there something wrong with me?"
Huh? Chishiya was not expecting that question what's so ever. Something wrong with you? The real question should be, is there something wrong with him?
"What?" Chishiya questions, not able to think about anything else too say.
"You always run away if I try to hug you or kiss you-" Fuck “-did I do something wrong? Do you... not like me anymore?"
Chishiya wants to say a thousand things. He wants to tell you that he does like you and doesn't want to run away. He wants to be able to kiss you and let you hug him. But most of all, he wants to tell you he loves you. One of the many emotions he's never felt before, you have made him realize he has for you. You're truthful, one of the most unique and beautiful people he's ever met. He just doesn't have the words to say it.
So, instead of saying anything, he groans and flops down on the bed. Facedown on the comforter. Acting like both a jerk and an awkward mess all at once.
Yup, this will answer their question, alright.
Chishiya feels something poke at his back multiple times, so he rolls over, but with his eyes closed.
"Chishiya?" He hears your voice very close to his ears but doesn't do or say anything. "Please, talk to me." He hears sadness in your voice. A sound he never wants to hear coming from you. You should only be happy and smiles, that's what you deserve, and he knows he's the exact opposite of what you deserve. Whether you realize it or not.
He decided at that moment, to man the fuck up and talk to you... just with his eyes closed.
"O-okay, Y/n. I'll be honest with you." He hears you gasp, worried about what his following words will be, but he continues anyway, "I've never had someone like you before in my life. I've never had anyone that wanted to give me affection - forget physical affection - and... I love it, but I don't know what to do about it. Truthfully, I can't even bring myself to tell you-" I love you.
His words hang in the air, and you're both silent for a moment.
It dawns on you after he stops short that you both never really had the conversation about past relationships, or family relationships, for that matter. He's mentioned a few times that his family isn't very important to him, and you didn't want to push for any more information because you didn't want to upset him. But now that he finally told you his insecurities, you feel relieved.
Not relieved that he's never gotten affection before (which to you he very much deserves all the affection in the world), but that the distance he's been putting between you two hasn't been because he doesn't like you... or love you.
"Chishiya." You watch him flinch when you say his name. "Please open your eyes."
With brief hesitation, he opens his eyes to find your eyes directly above his. You're not on top of him or super close to his face, but your eyes are the first thing he sees when he opens his own. Chishiya has always loved your eyes. They have a certain sparkle that makes him melt into the floor every time he looks at them. And right now, looking at your eyes, he has no idea why you like him. But he's a selfish man and doesn't want to let you go no matter how unworthy he feels he is for you.
"Yeah, baby?"
Hearing him call you baby for the first time makes your heart flutter. You stop yourself from smiling and breathe through your following words, trying to stay serious in this moment between you two. "I'm sorry no one has shown you any affection or love, but I'm not everyone else. I - I really, really like you, Chishiya. Is it okay if I continue showing you that? Like... right now?"
Chishiya swallows even though his throat has gone dry. Without words, he nods his head. He waits to see what this "showing of affection" is. But he understands when you start to lean your face down to his. He understands, and his heart picks up speed. His breathing speeds up too, and he doesn't move until you - kiss him.
You kiss him with one soft, brief kiss. It's so short that Chishiya could barely feel it, but the aftershock sends bolts of electricity throughout his body. And he wants to feel it again.
He doesn't even realize he's pulling you back to him with his hand on the back of your neck since you started pulling away after the kiss until your lips are reattached to his again. This kiss is more profound, powerful, and passionate than the last one. It only lasted a minute since; eventually, he had to let you breathe. When you detached your lips again, you were gasping for air you both didn't realize you needed.
Without thinking, you say, "God, I love you."
Both your eyes go wide. It was a heat of the moment blurt out, but you did feel that way. Chishiya's brain short-circuits, and he thinks his ears have misheard you.
No way. There's no way you just allowed him to kiss you and said you loved him in one go.
No. Fucking. Way.
But you did, and your smile at his reaction shows it all.
"Y-you love me?" Chishiya asks you in disbelief, and you nod your head vigorously while giggling.
"Fuck... I love you too."
And from that moment forward, Chishiya has never run away from your affections again.

Music was blaring through the speakers at the highest volume possible and made your ears almost bleed. You swore you could feel the bass in your bones, shaking them against each other to the beat. You had become immune to the deafening dubstep music and the annoying yells of everyone in the large crowd. People were pushed up close and personal to one another, grinding against each other like a pack of horny animals. It made you sick.
You leant against the neon-lighted bar that was fixated about twenty metres from the dance floor. You watched as people pushed each other into the pool nearby as you took a large puff from your cigarette. You had never smoked before being thrown into this horrific world, but the stress and worry brought you to consider the damaging habit.
“Bunch of idiots,” you muttered angrily under your breath. “How the fuck are they having fun? Do they not realize their brutal fates are waiting to creep up on them?”
Your close friend Sara sat in the stool beside you. She glanced at you and then in the direction you were staring. “I mean, I guess that’s why they’re having fun. They only have such a short life ahead of them,” she responded, turning back to the bar and taking a swig of her drink.
“I mean to be honest Y/N, I’m surprised you’re not letting loose of your cold attitude and having fun,” Sara stated over her shoulder to you.
You broke your gaze from everyone else and looked at her from the side. “Why is that?” you asked, curious as to what she meant.
She looked at you and smirked. “Don’t play dumb. I’ve seen you,” she chuckled.
“Huh?”
“You and that militant. You’ve been getting awfully close to the psychopath. When did it all start?” she sneered.
You pulled a confused expression before realizing what she was referring to. “Oh you mean Niragi,” you said, “We just help each other out at games, it increases our chance of surviving.” You brushed off her accusation and took another puff of your cigarette.
“Sorry if I’m being nosy, but it’s just strange,” Sara assured. “In the months I’ve been here, I’ve never seen Niragi warm up to someone. He’s always remained the same unempathetic, abusive bastard that I’ve always known.”
You stared at her side profile, not being too sure what to say.
You wouldn’t say that you had a good relationship with Niragi, considering the fact that he really did know how to push your buttons. If anything he was your enemy. But for some reason when you two were placed into the same groups to complete a game, you work together and against the others.
It was like he completely changed his persona from a cold-hearted prick to an overly protective (still a prick) figure. It gave you whiplash at times.
You let out a small chuckle and smirked at Sara. “And how would working with Niragi make me want to go and dance more Sara?” you questioned, going back to the topic you started at.
Sara turned herself around fully and stared you down right in the eyes. “All I’m saying is, if you’re looking for a quick way to die, keep sticking around Niragi. You know how he is Y/N, and when he gets the chance, he’ll put a bullet between your eyes with that rifle of his.”
She stood up off her stool and strutted towards the pool with her drink in her hand, probably to have some fun herself, considering the games were beginning in the next couple of hours. No one knew which night would be their last.
Your eyes followed her figure as she walked away. “Huh, maybe she’s just jealous,” you muttered.
You turned around and leaned over the bar, asking the bartender to make you a drink. The blonde girl nodded and got to mixing it for you. You sat in the seat that Sara previously was and let out a big sigh. You honestly were getting tired of the constant parties every single night, it was starting to get old.
No matter how hard you tried to ignore it, your mind kept bringing you back to what Sara was saying about Niragi and you. Was it really getting that obvious? Were other people noticing?
The bartender slid the drink towards you and you thanked her. You lifted the cold drink to your lips and tipped your head back, taking a big amount into your body. You wanted to be at least slightly intoxicated when the games start. It always helped ease your anxiety.
As your head began to feel heavier and your limbs became a bit numb, you noticed that the usual warm chatter that surrounded the neon bar had dissolved, almost to silence. You were confused, whipping your head around to see the cause.
You felt your face drop into a scowl as you noticed the familiar face that you hated so much. Niragi’s black and white button up turned turquoise from the lighting, and his eyes which were a deep dark black as he peered around the bar looking for something. You locked eyes with the all too familiar rifle that hung on his shoulders effortlessly, obviously just there for show.
You pointed that out to him one time which ended with your back against a hallway wall and the barrel of the rifle pressed harshly against your temple with Niragi’s disgusting spit in your eye. “You still think it’s for show?” he hissed.
He tried so desperately to get you to be scared of him at The Beach. Why in the hell did that brutal and bully personality of his fade at the games?
You swiveled back around in your seat, facing your back towards the frightening man.
‘Why can’t he just fuck off,’ you thought to yourself. ‘Why do I have to run into him everyday.’ It was becoming a bit suspicious, the amount of times you would catch Niragi around the corner of a room you’re in. He would always play it off as by chance but you’ve begun to think otherwise.
A hand slowly placed itself on your bare lower back and someone leaned in close to your ear. “Hey there sweetheart, I’ve been looking for you all night. A little birdie told me you would be here,” you heard Niragi purr into your ear.
You cringed at his sickening sweet tone and turned away from him. You could smell the slight tang of metallic blood on him. He’d probably ‘took care’ of someone some time earlier.
“What the fuck do you want Niragi,” you growled, not looking him in the eye. Niragi chuckled at your tone.
“That’s not a very nice hello. I thought you would’ve warmed up to me by now. You seem to put an awful lot of trust in me at games.”
He tucked a piece of hair behind your ear and pinched your earlobe gently between his thumb and index finger. You rolled your eyes into the back of your head in annoyance and slapped his hand away from your face.
“Piss off. If you’ve come here just to get on my nerves then you can beat it.” you spat at him harshly. He seemed taken back by your bold movements.
“Are you sure you want to speak to me that way? I might just leave you to die if you’re rude enough to me.” he snickered, keeping that smug smirk on his face that made you want to bash him over the head.
“So be it then, at least when I’m dead I won’t have to deal with your annoying ass.” You stuffed the rest of your cigarette into a tray on the table and stood up out of your seat to face the tall man head on.
He towered over you, that annoying and insolent smile never leaving his tanned face. Just his face alone created a rage in you that was indescribable.
“I don’t need some psychotic man with a machine gun to protect me Niragi. I am fine on my own. If anything, I could beat your cocky ass with my bare hands alone.”
“Well you seem awfully confident. Keep that same attitude when I have you cornered during a game, you might have to prove yourself right in order to survive.”
“Is that a threat?”
“It’s however you want to take it sweetie. A threat or a head-start.”
You frowned up at the man, not knowing how to respond. You walked back to the seat and grabbed your jacket that hung off it. “Have fun by yourself you prick. Why don’t you choose a fucking personality and stop switching between the two. You give me bloody whiplash.” You spat down at his feet, narrowly missing his shoe and marched away from him towards the pool to look for Sara.
You didn’t want to put up with his bullshit that night. You weren’t in the mood to start a verbal war with him, especially in front of everyone.
You found Sara sitting on the edge of the pool. There weren’t a lot of people around her, as everyone was either at the bar or on the dance floor.
You placed your hand gently on her shoulder and sat down next to her with your feet in the heated pool. It was a kind of awkward silence for a few moments before Sara spoke up.
“Sorry about before, I shouldn’t have assumed anything,” she started, looking into your eyes. “I understand that it must be hard for you, being the object of a psychotic man’s desires.” She said empathetically.
You appreciated her concern, as there were times where you were honestly scared for your life around Niragi. He really wasn’t the best person to be around, but you had already known that before you got closer with him. You never thought he would become as annoying and insistent as he had.
“I’m just worried about you. He’s a manipulative and untrustworthy person and I would hate to come back from a game one day to see your body with a bullet through your head.”
You stared into the water thinking about Sara’s words. “I know, I would hate that as well. I don’t trust him like that Sara. I would never put my own life in his hands, because I know he would hurt me with no remorse whatsoever.”
You both sat in silence for a bit with Sara leaning her head onto your shoulder. You wanted to spend this nice time together before leaving, just in case anything was to happen.
“I better go,” she announced after a while. She stood up and placed her hand on the top of your head. “Good luck Y/N. Make sure you don’t die out there. If anyone can survive, it’s you.”
You smiled at her words and looked up at her. “You too Sara. Love you.”
She said it back and then trudged off into the direction of the entrance to the hotel.
You wanted to be alone with your thoughts for a bit, but that didn’t last long when a tipsy young man with brown hair decided to plop himself right next to you, a little too close to just be friendly.
“Hey love! You’re looking awfully gorgeous tonight,” he beamed, placing an arm around your shoulder. You were taken back by his boldness, not knowing how to react.
“Oh, thanks I guess? I mean I’m dressed the same as I always am,” you said trying to keep the conversation light.
“Hmm really? Well I guess you’re just always gorgeous then,” he giggled and leaned closer to you.
You started to panic a little bit. This boy was a bit too flirty for his own good.
“Hey! Do you want to maybe come get a drink with me at the bar?” he asked in a cheery tone. You looked at him in shock and shook your head quickly. “No it’s fine really! I just had one so I don’t feel like another.” you insisted, laughing awkwardly.
“No really it’s fine! Actually you know what, I’ll grab it for you. You just wait here and I’ll be back soon,” he said with a big smile on his face. It seemed very contradicting to his pushy behaviour.
You started to get annoyed. “Please, it’s fine. I was just about to leave anyway,” you lied.
The young man still pushed. You found it quite pathetic really. Was he really that desperate?
Before you could even say anything else, you suddenly saw the man fly sideways and land in the pool. Your mouth fell open in shock and you watched as he came back to the surface gasping for air. “What the fuck? Who was that?!” he yelled out frustratingly. Everyone around the pool had gone silent to see what the commotion was.
You looked back to the side of the pool to see none other than Niragi himself who had a proud smile on his face. “It was me you little bitch.” The young man’s eyes widened in fear.
“Are you sure you want to go flirting around with a militant’s woman? You might just be looking to get your head blown off!” Niragi cackled psychotically. “Go find your own toy to play with.”
Niragi aimed his rifle towards the man and everyone surrounding the pool panicked and ducked down. The man screamed in fear and started yelling to do anything that might spare his life.
“My deepest apologies Niragi! I didn’t know she was with you! I promise I’ll stay away from her from now on!”
You felt somewhat belittled. How dare he apologize to Niragi but not you. You were the one that got harassed.
Niragi let out a giggle and pulled the trigger of his rifle. The deafening sound rang in your ears and you watched as the bullet narrowly missed the young man’s head by an inch, creating a splash in the water next to him.
Niragi kneeled down with an evil smile on his face and harshly gripped the boy by his hair to lift him closer to his face. “If you ever touch her again, I won’t hesitate to put multiple bullets between those annoying ass eyes of yours. You understand?” He growled.
“Yes! I understand sir! I promise!” the boy cried desperately.
Niragi let go of his hair and watched as he swam to the left of him to scramble out of the pool and sprint away from him towards the dance floor. Probably to hide among other people so if Niragi changed his mind about sparing him he would be harder to find.
You breathed heavily in shock, not believing what you just witnessed.
“What the fuck was that?!” you yelled at Niragi. He looked down at you with an emotionless expression.
“Huh?”
“That was so over dramatic! Niragi I don’t know if you know this, but we’re not together! We’re not even friends! You can’t go around threatening anyone who lays eyes on me!”
Niragi rolled his eyes and kneeled down to get closer to your face. “Look, that idiotic boy was just trying to get into your pants. He didn’t want anything else from you. I just did you a favor, you should be thanking me!” he exclaimed.
You furrowed your eyebrows in annoyance. “I was very aware of that fact Niragi, but I had it under control!”
“Did you really Y/N? Because from the way you were shaking it didn’t seem like you did.”
You stared into his deep, evil eyes. For once, you actually felt small underneath his gaze.
“Whatever, I’m going back to my room.” You stood up from your position and scurried away from the scene. As much as you hated to admit it, you were partly grateful to Niragi from saving you from that situation. You would never admit it to him though. You just wish he didn’t do it with so much aggression.
“Would you like me to walk you back-”
“Niragi! Fuck off!”
Author’s Note: Sorry this one took a while anon. I really hope it’s what you wanted!

I hope you're cancelling the frat nct/lucas fic....
Like you said, NCT fic. It's not just about Lucas specifically. It hasn't been posted yet since I'm prioritising writing the like 20 or something requests I have. Honestly, if there's a fic that you don't like, you don't have to read it. That's why there's the read more feature. Ofc I love all the support I get, but if a fic isn't to your liking, you can just go to the next. Since I've started writing for kpop, I've had so many people telling me what I should or shouldn't be writing, that I should go back to writing only for certain fandoms, or to stop writing for kpop and going back to Alice In Borderland. I just want to write for things I like. Of course I love getting requests of what my readers want to read, and I have no problem writing for them if I vibe with the idea, no matter the fandom, but when it gets to the whole ''you shouldn't write this'', ''stop writing for *insert fandom*, write for *insert fandom here* instead.'', it's severely frustrating. I started writing again so I could have another form of creative outlet for things I like other than just having art and dance, so I could have another way of connecting with other fans in the fandoms I'm in, like when I started writing for Alice in Borderland, I got some really great friends from the community through my writing, one of them being one of my best friends. But it's slowly turning into something I don't enjoy anymore because I'm always wondering ''am I gonna get attacked for writing for this person?'', ''are people gonna hate this?'', ''am I going to get hate for this?'' The whole point of starting to write again was to have another creative thing to do, especially when I started, we were in a serious af lockdown, but what's the point if you're creativity is being restricted because certain people don't like certain things? Like the whole ''Stop writing for kpop, go back to aib'' stuff I was getting for a long time, and I still get. I haven't stopped writing for aib, I've got requests coming but I don't see the point in being stuck writing for one certain thing for me personally because that's just not enjoyable. This ended up being a ramble but idk, it's just something I've started dreading to do, and it's sad because I used to get to much enjoyment out of. It was a way to block out all the bullshit in the world and be able to just dive into a different reality. For a while, I was thinking of quitting writing altogether because I just couldn't enjoy it anymore. I'm gonna stay writing, for multiple fandoms, and anyone that sticks around to read/support my fics, know that it means a lot to me. I'm not saying any of this to be rude, and I hope it doesn't come across that way. It's just a few thoughts that have been in my head for a while and finally I can let them out. Anyway, I should stop rambling now so, for the people that do stick around, ily and I hope you enjoy the next fics/requests and possible original story that's coming, I got a LOT of WIPs

I FINALLY SAW THE RK MOVIE YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!
And of course I have feelings
Also, I never saw the OVA really (just AMVS I think?) so I don't know the names of anybody
Spoilers I guess?
Reactions in real time:
- uhhhhhhhhhhhhh hot damn! he just kills everyone, so different from all the other movies where he just... hurts them
- oh hi there actor that I can't remember your name but I remember you from Alice in Borderlands (Nijiro I think?) and bonus long haired and cigarrete free Saito :)
- oh hi there other actor that I also can't remember your name but I remember you from the shogi movie with Kamiki (And the Jojo live action that I'm looking everywhere to watch but can't find... Issei Takahashi I think is your name?)
- awwww bb kubota, dying again, awwww (although... if you love someone and want to live... like... pretend to be dead, I won't care if people call you a coward, you'd be alive)
- first meeting with Tomoe yeahhhh!!
- oh wow... that's not the face I'd made if someone splashed blood over me like... I guess emotionless face just doesn't work for me (also the fainting was...something)
- haha... this is not a brothel XD heartless killer roasted by the land lady
- oh, less expresionless face, I'm starting to like her. And I like that she questions Kenshin's killing policy
- How can they walk in that? I'd be falling all over the place
- As someone who rarely smiles around strangers... that was rude dude
- Do they have like...2 sets? oh ok no, they went out to the streets as I was writing this
- oh wow Shisengumi are badass (are they shisengumi? My brain can't keep up with all the the political divisions)
- FIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT! I love those "whoosh whoosh" sounds that swords make... oh no he is hurt, will he die? I hope not. A wild Saito appeared!
- Yeah, that Kenshin vs Saito is for the next movie. Go dye your hair Saito and wait for your turn
- How is Okita struting his way into the city when he was spitting his guts up 5 minutes ago?
(Also, I don't know if this is a tkr thing but I love how he always is freaking eating, does he puts this in his contract?)
- Awww this was a cruel foreshadowing
- Katsura the matchmaker <3
- Oh so enemies to fake dating to lovers trope? I don't remember it being like that but ok. Domestic Kenshin is best Kenshin
- "You're eating hungrily" (I don't know if my translations are correct) but yeah of course he is eating like that, Amuse doesn't feed him that's why he left
- OMG CONFESSION!!!!!!!!!!!!
- WAIT WHAT? Ok that was unexpected. A wild Enishi appeared
- Shouldn't you be asking how the brother found her? Aren't you supposed to be like... incognito?
- She wasn't supposed to find the weakness, she will become the weakness (I went "oh no!" and then "wait... I already know this why am I surprised?")
- What?! how?! Is this the mountain from Kimetsu no Yaiba? The one where tanjirou trains? like...what?!
- The fuck is happening right now? I guess this is where the budget went. EXPLOSIONS EVERYWHERE!!!
- Oh no!!!
(I thought the first movie choose a wrong shot but omg...please girl emote a little more, at least flinch a little, they are killing you! And you were doing good so far)
- Why does she cut him though? Was it for the aesthetic? The symmetry?
- Is it Shishio? They are talking about Shishio right? The one who is as good as Kenshin with the sword?
- Why doesn't he bury her? Or cremates her? Oh he does cremate her but of course like that because he is dramatic AF.
- Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh now we are back to the beginning...literally. Nice
- I can't believe is been 10 years since the first movie...time sure flies
- ngl, I'M LOVING this loop, now this scene has even more impact
- 10 years alright
- I'm kinda crying *///*
Aw man... all in all, I liked it, it kind of dragged a little but I liked it (better than The Final, that one was a bit too much fight and not too much story. Good action movie, not so much to my liking storywise)
If I had to rank them...then: 1-5-3 (for the 4vs1 fight that I ADORE)-2-4. Maybe 3-2 are tied because the fight scenes in those are amazing and of course...Masha
I still remember when tkr was announced as Kenshin and people went "him?" but now, he became the character, he is Kenshin. This movie made me feel nostalgic and I wish it had a longer run in the theaters but can't deny I'm glad I could watch it in my country via Netflix at least.
4 scars out of 5 for this movie :)

Reviewing Killing Games for the SPOOPY MONTH!
You might be wondering why a scaredy-dino would be watching this type of stuff. Well, it’s because it’s October! Spoopy!
I’m pretty sure that my family is concerned with the number of these that I’m watching. Haha... I’m also concerned.
Watched Fully:
Squid Game: (9/10)
Not too gruesome (compared to other options). Kinda overhyped at this point, but that's only because it was good. I actually liked the characters. They all made sense. The premise makes a surprising amount of sense too. It’s truly a slightly hyperbolic representation of our capitalist society.
Alice in Borderland: (7.5/10)
It's about people who aren't so content with their lives being transported to an alternative world like that. Some of the manga elements didn't transfer as well. I also don’t like how Kento Yamazaki is in everything. His acting is... I guess it’s mediocre at best. He’s gotten better, but one shouldn’t use feature-length films as their acting class.
Also, I fricking love a good canon trans character. Kuina is my favourite character. She’s a queen, a legend, a badass. Absolutely amazing.
Watched a summary:
Judge:
I read the manga which was actually significantly worse than the movie summary. The movie only borrows the premise. The manga was a bit too cheesy and the art wasn't as spooky as I hoped.
As the God's Will:
My brother said the manga gets bad, so I don't really want to read it. The trailer looks funny though (live-action). This one’s games are kind of similar to Squid Game because they are also based off kids’ games.
King's Game:
Read the manga (1st one, not 2nd). It was mediocre at best. The first live-action movie involves people disappearing out of existence. It also has Kensho Ono which I laughed at because I don’t think his death was even significant enough to show on-screen. The second one has them dying from cartoonish deaths that really shouldn't have any proper explanation besides supernatural.
Battle Royale:
I'm not too sold on a lot of drama's acting. The special effects weren't as good, and as much as everyone complains about how the characters were stupid, high schoolers are stupid.
Battle Royale 2:
This one makes significantly less sense, and at this point, I'm pretty sure this movie was just a cash grab. If we're going to get a killing game going, the plot needs to make sense.
Kaiji:
Based on a manga I didn't read. This one relates the most to Squid Game, in my eyes. I can't believe the same live-action actor is in Death Note, this, and both Battle Royale movies.
Old:
This movie would've been better if the acting was better.
Death Bell:
This and Squid Game (and maybe Kaiji) had the best world-building in terms of why these death games were happening. This one has the least deaths I think?
Werewolf Game:
They have so many versions of this. I can't keep up. There's a villager side, wolf side, lover side, etc.I just like the premise because it’s something I’m really familiar with.
Circle:
I feel like this would’ve been a hard movie to sell simply because the set doesn’t really change, but they actually made it work. Not exactly sure if I would’ve wanted them to do more world-building. Depending on how they would’ve done it, I think it could’ve added to the movie.

So, I've got a question to the game in the 5th episode of Alice in Borderland.
If you haven't watched the series Alice in Borderland this contains spoilers.
I finished watching the series Alice in Borderland about a month ago but there is one question I can't get out of my head since.
In the 5th episode they just arrived at the beach and then head off to play that light bulb game. During the game they were all standing in a room filled with water. And when that one girl touched that - you know - thingy hanging from the ceiling she immediately died because she got an electro shock (?) I guess. But why didn't it affect the others?
I might not the smartest when it comes to physic and stuff but shouldn't they all have gotten an electric shock since they were all standing in the same water which conducts electricity perfectly?
This seems like such an obvious and stupid mistake to make though which makes me think I've just got something wrong or missed something important.
Hopefully I don't seem stupid now but really can anybody please explain to me.

Tabletop Asks
In reference to the previous post: 1.) Game Master, Player or both? Why?
I am currently lucky enough to be player in one game and DM in another (both 5e D&D), however ordinarily I am overwhelmingly the DM/GM.
2.) When did you start role playing? How old were you?
My first start with published tabletop adventures was actually quite late, in my second year of university when I was about 19, so 11 years ago now, with D&D 4e. However, I think my first freeform roleplaying experiences were with a mate of mine all the way back in primary school, where we had this quite extensive worldbuilding and characters. It was my first introduction to the idea that I wanted to be a writer.
3.) What was the first role playing book you ever owned?
The 4e PHB, DMG and MM all at the same time. I had a job then, missed playing, decided “fuck it, I’ll start my own” and dived in.
4.) Describe the first game you ever ran or played in.
A 4e Starters Box run on Keep on the Borderlands. I played a Dwarf Fighter out of the box, which I named Xzienne (which some of you know is my regular online handle). He was fun; in my oh-so-extra way, I kept my game notes as In-Character journal entries.
5.) Which system did you grow up with?
D&D, all the way. Fourth edition and then Fifth, with a look at Third in between. But I’ve played about a dozen or two different systems all up.
6.) Which system do you play now?
Predominantly 5e
7.) Longest campaign you’ve run or played in?
My D&D “Empires Intelligence Services” campaign ran from 2016-2020.
8.) Where did you meet your current gaming group?
I tend to throw my groups together from among various people I know from all over. My favourite group ever was the one formed entirely of cast members from our local theatre company production of Wicked.
9.) Strategic combat or dramatic plotlines?
Does it need to be either/or? I feel like good drama gets you invested in the character’s outcomes, good combat (or puzzles or traps or whatever) gets you invested in the character’s actions. You want people to achieve their goals with emotional satisfaction but without just narrating to them; they need to feel involved in the process of making those goals come about. Challenges are not just there for the Power Gamers and the Slayers, they make the plotlines feel satisfying for everyone.
10.) Favorite RPG genre?
I love Science Fiction and I love Fantasy, and my own work so often smashes the two together. I write a lot of Contemporary/Urban Fantasy, and my D&D world is a magepunk magitech setting with spacefaring aircraft and so forth.
PLAYER CHARACTERS - Describe:
11.) Your first character.
Xzienne the Dwarven Fighter, mentioned above. My first character I made though, on the other hand, not including NPCs, was much later. I think it was probably Tetsuo, my Shin-jin from a Dragonball RPG
12.) Your favorite character.
Definitely Ortlinde. An Aasimar Witch who was the granddaughter of a Valkyrie, and was mad that the gods would be so callous as to bar her mother from Valhalla just because she wasn’t a warrior, and so tried to stage a coup against Asgard. Fuck she was cool.
13.) Your most ridiculous character.
If not Ortlinde, then possibly Parian, my 13th Age Bard whose “One Unique Thing” (a 13th Age mechanic that I love) was that he could modify his spells on the fly by casting the verbal components as full poems, which I would write and perform in-session. I once got to add a Fear effect to a Thunderwave because I made it sound like the trumpets of judgement day, and I managed to cast Charm Person but with an allied player as the focus of the target’s charm by making the poem about their character.
14.) The best in-character line you’ve ever had.
Not a lot of what other players have said have stuck with me, really. Possibly my favourite was Alice’s ranger in Castles and Crusades who said a whole lot of buckwild shit until my halfling begged her not to talk.
Whereupon she shortly thereafter discovered a secret Dryad home inside a tree, and didn’t mention it to the party. When asked why?
“You told me not to talk.”
15.) Your most epic death.
I haven’t died that often, to be honest. Probably the most memorable death was Parian, who got crushed in a moving wall trap and had to be scooped up in a bag and carried around as “bard soup” until a True Resurrection could be cast.
16.) Your most disappointing death.
See above.
17.) Something that shouldn’t have worked, but did.
Meliorn Metcalfe, Tiefling Spellbinder, orchestrating an ambush in a town square against the people who had been sending thugs to attack the party in their beds and stealing shit from the townsfolk. I set up traps (clay pots filled with caltrops and poison), used sunrods to blind the attackers while we had our backs to the light, and we greased the buildings around the area so that they couldn’t climb to safety. It went perfectly, even after they rocked up with a gargoyle.
18.) Something that went hilariously awry.
Just recently I was playing in a Wildemount game which saw the party running Benny Hill style around an ancient lab from a Wight. In the process I got nearly killed by both flying knives and a very angry carpet.
19.) Your most memorable in-character moment.
Ortlinde’s speech to Frigg, lambasting the Gods for their mistreatment of mortals.
20.) The coolest item you ever got and how you came to possess it.
The Masque of Clavicus Vile, from the Elder Scrolls games, pulled from Niddhogr’s treasure hoard and buffing my Spell Save DC to 27 (including other stuff like class features for the Witch and another item which synergised with those).
GAME MASTERS - Describe:
21.) Your favorite NPC and how the party reacted to him/her
By far Celia Sapienza, Eladrin Kensai, who became the party Mum even though she was younger than a few of them. She’s now the head of the Empires Intelligence Services Northern Branch.
22.) A game you wish you could run or want to run someday.
I’ve been eyeing off Dread, Skullduggery and Leverage for years, but I also recently got the Dishonoured game which looks sick as, and Blades in the Dark, and...
23.) Something you made up on the spot.
So so much, but most recently I had a Marid sailor NPC who I had to improvise and entire story of his previous voyages. I did it in a Brian Blessed voice and the players, no shit, fucking applauded.
24.) Your most successful game.
The Wild Huntresses, finally figuring out who had killed the town alchemist and facing off against her and her pet Water Elemental in the caves beneath the hills. Such an epic game. God I miss that group.
25.) Your least successful game.
Paranoia, but that’s just built into the premise.
26.) The craziest thing your players have ever done, and how it affected your plans.
I had a player walk straight out the front doors of a castle under siege. I hit him with 2 dozen crossbow bolts. That guy was an asshole.
27.) Your favorite setting or game location.
I massively love the idea of Eberron, and I love the MTG crossover settings like Ravnica and Theros.
28.) Your creative process when you plan a game.
Typically write about a page of notes for every 2-10 hours of gameplay, depending on the amount of combat expected. Things like important NPCs and what they want, where the party are expected to go in general terms and some ideas for things to throw at them when they inevitably wander off the path, that sort of thing. If it’s really plot important, though, I’ve been known to write pages and pages of lore and character info to hopefully seed into conversations. I also once wrote a full script that we did as a table read for a big conversation between a bunch of NPCs that the party were there to listen to but not be involved in.
29.) The best / worst character concept you’ve ever heard.
No character concept that fits within the rules is ever really bad, although sometimes the execution isn’t great. Some are very, very dumb, like say every character ever built or played by the asshole player I mentioned a few entries back.
30.) What makes GMing fun for you.
Players getting invested in the world and in each other’s stories. Nothing makes me feel better as a GM than being able to sit back while the players have a full in-character conversation with each other.
