The Curse of Curiosity

Day after day, I fail to do the things I plan to do. Simple activities like training or watching YouTube or even finding a book to read. The list goes on and on. I have an abundance of tools to make the process of reading easier than ever, yet I don't. I stare at my YouTube home page unable to choose a video to watch. I go to the gym and I am all over the place. I train my abs and then go immediately to biceps curls. Inconsistent!

I can find an informative and rich article with a few clicks, but I don't, even though I hate myself for not doing it. Even though I have so much free time after I finished high school. Simply put, the problem is that I cannot choose what to learn. I cannot priorities a subject over the other; all are equally interesting. I know many can relate to this feeling.

Chaos is beautiful when it is temporary, and all hell breaks loose when chaos becomes the norm. Frankly, this is exactly how my life looked like during the last 4 months. I know myself to be an orderly person who thrives when things are predictable. It is not like I plan everything in advance. In fact, I used to make my plans with a good margin for the uncertainty of life, and it worked very well. I was in high school, thus, I planned my life around that one goal of passing with good results.

However, now, I don't have school anymore. I have been trying to organise my life, but I cannot priorities anything. For example, when I want to choose a book to read, I stand helpless in front of the seemingly daunting task of choosing the genre and the topic. Not because everything is boring but because everything is equally interesting. I want to learn many things and I end up learning nothing. I want to read many things and I end up leaving books unfinished. I want to be fit and healthy, thus, I want to hit the gym five times a week and train every muscle in my body along with cardio, but I end up doing none of that.

The problem is not procrastination, although, it could be a part of the issue. I am concerned because, before the month of April 2021, I didn't have any of these problems. I have been training at the gym 3-4 times a week for three years; I had no problem with that. I could choose a book easily, work out, and learn. But now, the freedom of choosing whatever I want to learn; to not be forced to learn the traditional subjects of high school. This is my curse. The curse of curiosity. To find everything interesting until I reach the point of absolute indecisiveness.

I thought about this dilemma for a few days. I realized that I tend to exaggerate what I can do with my time. I cannot say for sure that my plans are unrealistic, but this is a possibility. To be brutally honest, I don't know how to make realistic plans because I want everything and nothing at the same time. You may think I am blurting out meaningless words. You have every right to think so. All I am trying to say is that I don't have a goal, therefore, I cannot choose my sacrifice. And this, my friend, is going to drive me crazy if I didn't put an end to it.
