Grace Muncy’s sneaker game ALONE was 100x more interesting than Agent Sykes’ whole existence in the SVU squad
Tumblr media
no hate to jordana spiro, but her character is so dull and out of place. The turnover of female characters on SVU, is super tacky and misogynistic.

Ladies of Svu & Pumpkins
Tumblr media
Just some chaotic silly headcanons involving our favourite ladies to cover the "carving pumpkins" square for @adarafaelbarba autumn bingo! I originally wanted to write this a year ago but never got around to it, I think it was better back then and in my head than down on paper, but i wrote this after a long shift so imma post it anyways lol. enjoy?
Holidays were always a bit more than chaotic with the women of SVU
Christmas included multiple secret santa’s between far too many departments, banquet dinners, and even lamer parties. NYE held the prestigious lawyer galas, endless champagne, fancy dresses and black tie attire.
But Halloween? Something not so celebrated by the actual department or work parties? Halloween was absolute chaos.
No one really knew how it even started, why everyone started to gather together over the holiday time as the leaves changed and the air chilled. Some would say it was lack of a family holiday during the month, the weird vibe between the warmth of summer and the anticipation of Christmas.
It first started out with Casey and Melinda binging horror movies with endless bowls of popcorn. Casey snickering at the jump scares and cheesy jokes while Melinda couldn’t help but groan and let out outbursts about the terrible injuries that would definitely not lead to those particular deaths and the even worse attempted first aid by other characters.
Alex is the next to join in. she’s bored, needs some company, and absolutely hates Halloween, especially the night of. She doesn’t want to be bothered by a bunch of trick or treaters in her apartment so she heads to Melinda’s to join their movie marathon.
The following year Casey mentions something in front of Liz, who instantly offers up her brownstone as hosting property, it has much more space, she’d like the company, an excuse to indulge in some spiked apple cider, and maybe Casey will be down to dealing with the trick or treaters so Liz doesn’t have to hide upstairs all night.
Word spreads from there and before they know it the entire department, and even the cops know what’s going on and where. Liz has more people than she expected over, but everyone brings something festive and is excited about the evening.
The Halloween movies play on the big screen tv, low lighting through the living room though the attention isn’t too much on the television.
Kat and Pippa have brought over pumpkins, probably too many, both mini sized to be drawn on and glue googly eyes to, and the large ones to be carved into jack o lanterns. But they just know that even if the girls don’t seem interested right away, they’ll get into it once the idea is there.
At this point, Melinda’s sitting at the dining room table watching the chaos unfold, first aid kit directly beside her, knowing that there’s too much of a chance someone will slice into their finger by the end of the night.
Casey chooses a super easy, child friendly pattern, two triangle eyes, and upside triangle nose and a toothy smile for her pumpkin.
Alex has an intricate design that she’s determined to carve into her pumpkin, using a variety of knives to try and execute it perfectly, tongue stuck between her teeth as she looses track of both the movie and conversation, completely focussed on her jack o lantern.
Kathy & Pippa have the oven preheated and are the ones waiting for all the pumpkin guts to e sorted through, the seeds to be picked out of and seasoned appropriately before roasting them
Kat and Amanda are the ones very happily digging through the piles of pumpkin guts to pick out all the seeds.
Somehow Rita is sitting around the table, glass of liquor in one hand, far too large knife in the other as she banters back and fourth with everyone else, obviously talking with her hands far too much, especially considering the knife. Melinda’s eyes are tight on her considering she doesn’t even have the thought of carving a pumpkin in her brain and no one’s really sure where she even picked up the knife. It only takes Liz a matter of minutes to hand her a fresh drink and snag the knife, exchanging a knowing glance with Melinda before they both let out a small chuckle.
Alex is chattering on, a little buzzed and all excited about her fancy carving, she turns the pumpkin toward everyone to show it off and they all give their praise all “ohh yess!”  “so pretty!” “great job alex!” although none of them can tell what it’s supposed to be despite Alex’s best work “it’s a unicorn!” she protests
Casey’s the one to dive first, “oh! Yes! I totally see it lex! Great job!” her joy is met with a bright smile from Alex for the brief second before the pumpkin collapses in on itself, met with a huff from Alex and laughter from the rest of the crew.
Liz praises her, saying she knows just how much work she put into it and hands her another glass of wine, saying she can always try again next year.
Kathy makes the rounds, making sure everyone has spiked apple cider and freshly baked pumpkin pie and roasted pumpkin seeds before they finally settle in to watch the family friendly Hocus Pocus to round out the whole evening, everyone more than happy, feeling festive and making the perfect ending to the evening.

sorry to get emotional about an svu character but...like, you just gotta love a man who hates rapists and predators with his entire being. that is barba's entire function in the show. all the other characters, they wear different hats, brother, uncle, sister, mother, etc, but barba is almost singularly a lawyer. yes, there are plotlines about his old buddies, but those plotlines revolve around barba choosing to protect girls, women, victims, over his childhood friends. and to him, it's not even a question. he has to.
but what gets me is that he's not an overly empathetic, or compassionate person. he doesn't hug or cry for the victims, he is even rude and mean and callous to a lot of them. he's willing to threaten a scared woman with a similar background to him, to get her to put some bad guys away. he loves the law, truly deeply loves it, but he specializes in protecting women.
his first case was a prostitute who had been raped. the burden of proof in that kind of case, for twelve people, is very high. that's his first case. and since then, he tries and fights like hell to protect women, to go above just simply prosecuting their rapists, to taking down companies and celebrities, etc. he goes after policy and political figureheads, he goes after his own childhood best friend.
he's not overly sympathetic, but he cares about these women and victims more than almost anyone else in the show. he's ruthless, but towards that same goal, protecting women and victims.

"To all the women out there:
You're allowed to take up space to let your voice be powerful and joyful and to say: 'Don't interrupt me.
I'm speaking now."

Anyway, I will never forgive SVU for what they did to Dana Lewis. A strong, driven, smart, capable, likable woman, who is successful and respected in her career--let's disrespect everything about her character by having her downfall be tied to some guy! Because as we all know, women can't just have their own motivations and personality, it all has to be because of jealous, man-driven woman brain. They also screwed Olivia out of what was and could have been a really positive friendship with another woman, which is also annoying and disappointing. "Developing her character or at least sticking to what made her likable is cool, but how about we trash all of that and turn her into a sniveling, cowardly murderer who risked her career over angst caused by a romantic relationship instead??"
SO IRRITATING.

Catching up on SVU and honestly they should have stretched out that Michelle Gomez storyline because Mariska and Michelle have insane energy together. Honestly, they should have been allowed to fight it out.

i genuinely cannot get over how simple and beautifully effective rafael barba's character is. he is a man who hates predators and rapists. he is a man who loves the law, loves what it can do, loves what it stands for, loves it like a person. he's a lawyer who hates rapists. that's who he is.
and it works for a show literally about special victims, that's what he was made for. but it is remarkable to me that they're able to do so much with a character that has a very stringent motivation.
so much credit to raùl esparza, of course because he made barba amazing and real and nuanced, but barba is just a great character. here is a man who spends his time defending women and putting away predators. without any tragic backstory, either. he isn't a good person because his mom died, or because his sister got hurt by someone. he's just a good person.
