Note to Self: DON'T USE UNITY ENGINE
Take FEE from Developers for Every copy for every game installed.
FREE GAMES the fees still apply estimate more than $25,000,000
Declare bankruptcy to the bank, loaner's and users. (??? Does Unity apply the same charges to Casino machines, slot websites, jackpot party, it's legally a gaming ain't it?)
I get FREE GAME, while DEVELOPER is CHARGED for that MY FREE COPY
So if I a Gamer become a Developer will be CHARGED for FREE GAMES even by multiple copies from one user
" That's bad " I feel bad for studio's situation :(
*Edit UPDATES (September 13 2023)
- Unity "regrouped" and now says ONLY the initial installation of a game triggers a fee (0.20$ per install){I hope there no glitches concerning installation}
- Demos mostly won't trigger fees (Keyword: MOSTLY what does that mean)
- Devs not charged fee for Game Pass, Thank God for the Indie Developers
- Charity games/bundles exempted from fees
Xbox is on the hook, for Gamepass?
*Edit Updates (September 13 2023)
Unity:
-Who is impacted by this price increase: The price increase is very targeted. In fact, more than 90% of our customers will not be affected by this change. Customers who will be impacted are generally those who have found a substantial scale in downloads and revenue and have reached both our install and revenue thresholds. This means a low (or no) fee for creators who have not found scale success yet and a modest one-time fee for those who have. (How big of scale of success before your charged?)
-Fee on new installs only: Once you meet the two install and revenue thresholds, you only pay the runtime fee on new installs after Jan 1, 2024. It’s not perpetual: You only pay once for an install, not an ongoing perpetual license royalty like a revenue share model. (???)(How do they know that from device)
-How we define and count installs: Assuming the install and revenue thresholds are met, we will only count net new installs on any device starting Jan 1, 2024. Additionally, developers are not responsible for paying a runtime fee on: • Re-install charges - we are not going to charge a fee for re-installs. •Fraudulent installs charges - we are not going to charge a fee for fraudulent installs. We will work directly with you on cases where fraud or botnets are suspected of malicious intent.
- Trials, partial play demos, & automation installs (devops) charges - we are not going to count these toward your install count. Early access games are not considered demos.
- Web and streaming games - we are not going to count web and streaming games toward your install count either.
- Charity-related installs - the pricing change and install count will not be applied to your charity bundles/initiatives.(Good)
•If I make a expansion pack does count as install, what if I made sequel?
•Fee apply to$200,000 USD (How does work for other countries)
So I charge $60 per ONE Videogame I will be charged fees once I sell about 3400 copies ($204000)
I then sell say 10,000copies(New Sequels as well)
(If I download game onto my computer twice they get charged 0.20, how ever if I redownload onto another device say Xbox, would they get charged again, charges may vary depending on how many games.)
OVERALL
Seems to force companies to charge customers higher prices on videogames to avoid a loss of profit.
*Edit Updates as of (September 22.2023)
- Your Game is made using a Unity Pro or Unity Enterprise plan.
- Your Game is created or will be upgraded to the next major Unity version releasing in 2024.
- Your Game meets BOTH thresholds of $1,000,000 (USD) gross revenue (GROSS= Before Deductions & Taxes) on a trailing 12 month basis(?) AND 1,000,000 *lifetime initial engagements.
As for counting the number of *initial engagements, it will depend on your game and distribution platforms.
Some example metrics that we recommend are number of units sold or first-time user downloads.
This list is not comprehensive, but you can submit an estimate based on these metrics. Hope this helps! You can also find more information here: https://unity.com/pricing-updates
I'm sorry, Did that User say runtime fee is still tied to the number of installations (WTF Runtime Fee)
•Qualify(Ew) for the run-time fee:
1) are on Pro and Enterprise plans
2) have upgraded to the Long Term Support (LTS) version releasing in 2024 (or later)
3) You have crossed the $1,000,000 (USD) in gross revenue (GROSS= Before Deductions & Taxes)(trailing 12 months)
4) 1,000,000 initial engagements
( I noticed that it doesn't seem to mention International Revenue. Only the USD)
•Delete Unity
•Deletes Game before they make million
•Make $900,000 then make Game Free
•Make Game Free and implore people for their generosity
•Change Game Engine
Too tired to do the math...

I don't know about yall and your headcanons, but I can't imagine Armin's parents.
For me, he will always be the sweet guy who lives with grandpa and helps take care of him. I don't know why but the idea of his grandpa canon in the anime stayed in my head, and I can't imagine Armin's parents. In college he could be completely playful about games, HQs, movies, computers and then "I won't be able to go, I have to take my grandpa to the square today... ", "Huh, maybe someday? I have to pay the bills later hahaha..." and like WITHOUT COMPLAINING or being like the other asshol boys, he simply lives with his grandfather and does everything for get him well, happy and safe. Armin may be the biggest nerd in college, or the gamer guy, the super serious and responsible strategist, but when you meet him and go to his house waiting to see him sitting at the computer wanting nothing with anything as an any bum, you see him with completely different eyes after perceiven how organized he is. You feel cozy over there, a soft and well lined sofa accommodates you, knitting lining is so cute. From there you already begin to notice how Armin left the house aways SO clean, making it as evident as possible of how hard-working he is. You can see that things are very clean according to the brightness you see on the furniture and tiles, organized shelves, a slight smell of disinfectant and a yuuuummy smell of bread baked in the air. There are beautiful fruits in the basket, cookies, breads, all pretty and so... cosy? He did all this, he cleans all this? And from Armin's shy feature explaining the bus schedules to Grandpa while you eat the delicious cookies he baked (because he learned to cook to not leave his old grandpa in the kitchen), he knows you're looking and gets so shhshsj nervous. Your eyes then fall straight from Armin to his grandfather, who opened a confused and playful smile to his grandson. "... Not grandpa. At this time it's another bus, you can't take this one. If you catch this one you can get lost, okay? So you need to be careful and go see if..." your ears melt with the soft voice of the blond. So thoughtful. Armin had his body all stiff standing up while the three of you stood in the living room, still with his long shirts, his baggy pants and socks with slippers. You three eat a cake and have a tea to the sound of not much besides your voices, the sound of birds outside and the tic tac of the kitchen clock. It's sunny outside, a warmer spring weather, a smell of coffee exhaling from the kitchen.... ooooooooh. The house is not rich, but it is so beautiful and cozy, a living room and a beautiful kitchen with flowers on the tiles.. Armin never was to flaunt the best Jordans, or iPhone of last generation, he has always been a normal and humble scholar. A nice house, so nice to be going to nap in the afternoon zzzzzz. I would die to go have tea and talk about everything with him, a tea with carrot cake or cracker while we read a book... I'm delirious. This is based on my fantasies here in Brazil, with beautiful cozy Brazilian cuisines on a hot day and a unique aesthetic of ours, nothing much of 1st world and blablabla, but rather a beautiful and quiet house? A cute radio on the shelf and Grandpa sleeping in the room while he shows me a new game coming out for free on XBOX gamepass.

My brother and I spent HOURS as kids playing Goldeneye on our N64, we even set up cardboard partitions so we couldn't see each other when playing.
I've just told him that it's coming to Xbox and will be on Gamepass (he uses mine) and this was his response bless him 🤗

The wait is over! XBox's Phil Spencer has finally given a response to the questions about the future of XBox, including their GamePass, Cloud, and Exclusivity!
On today's XBox Podcast, Phil informed us that XBox will have 4 games, each over 1 year old, going to other platforms. All other games will remain exclusives, including Starfield and Indiana Jones. Phil didn't update us on which games will be jumping platforms, but he stated that they are community driven games and the purpose is to reach as many players as possible. This is something I can completely agree with.
Phil went on to state that his focus is the long-term grown of XBox as a while and that they want to bring these 4 games to multiple platforms in order to help grow the franchises. I can agree with this statement and idea. Honestly, I think exclusives are great to bring more customers to your hardware...but overall, I don't agree with keeping former 3rd party games as console exclusives, such as the upcoming HELLBLADE 2.
The team made sure to tell viewers that their primary focus will remain on XBox (console and games), PC, and Cloud. The point of releasing these 4 games on XBox is in hopes to reach the biggest audience of players, while also sparking interest in XBox itself. Since GamePass will remain exclusive to XBox itself, all console and Windows PC owners can breathe a sigh of relief.
I agree with XBox's strategy of wanting to bring more cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-save to their games. I know that I am a huge fan of remote play services. If I can hop on my PlayStation from my vacation spot or visit with family, I'm all set. Same goes for if I have my PC...I can hit up my XBox content. I love being able to play on my iPad by connecting to my consoles, etc.
We even got an update on Activision Blizzard that puts Diablo IV on GamePass on March 28th. So with all of the updates, I wonder how XBox fans feel after weeks of discouragement and feeling betrayed by the XBox brand. Let me know what you think!

Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero
From the 16th of this month, March 2020, to the 15th of next month, April 2020, Games with Gold has the excellent platformer – Shantae: ½ Genie Hero. As long as you have an active Xbox Live or Xbox Gamepass Ultimate subscription
Tumblr media
It's “FREE” to download during that period but even after April 15th, you can keep playing it, it won't leave your library and if you let your subscription expire it will still remain, you just can't play it.
I have had Gamepass for about a year now, I wanted to kind of document my journey and time with games on Gamepass and one of the first that I played when I got the service last year was Shantae: ½ Genie Hero.  Unfortunately, this game is no longer available on the service and I thought back in September of 2019 that I had lost my chance to talk about it in a relevant sense, but lo and behold its back now – kind of, in a zombie-esque way.
Tumblr media
The game expiring from Gamepass was actually the launching point for me to a Switch.  It was my birthday in September and Shantae was just about to be removed from the service, great present Microsoft.  I was kind of depressed that in this moment in my life that I had spent about a quarter of a year playing the game that was just going to up and leave.  Now I could have bought it and at a discount but if I did that I would be getting just the base game that I was practically done with.  I also had all this extra money from my birthday burning a hole in my pocket and instead doing something smart like putting towards my mortgage – I ended up buying a Switch to cheer me up.  And what does the Switch have but the physical version of Shantae: ½ Genie Hero that includes all the DLC.
Tumblr media
THAT – and the fact that one of my favorite games of all time was just remade – Link's Awakening.
Tumblr media
So I got those two games to cope with the fact that I wouldn't be able to play Shantae on Gamepass anymore in a few days ...but I had also gotten my wife a Switch Lite for our anniversary so I kind of wanted a reason to give it to them early and we had a Switcheversay on September 28th.
NERD!
On a side note of this tangent – I feel like I'm always a little behind with Nintendo, with my earliest exposure to Nintendo being no different.  Way back in the dark ages of the early 1990s I was a Genesis Lad.  After school I was in a program where I first got to play a Nintendo game, there were NES consoles, games and Ataris as well.  While kids at school were telling me, “YA GOTTA PLAY Donkey Kong Country 2 and Mega Man X!” The cutting edge stuff of the time, I would root around and find other games like Donkey Kong Jr. and Mega Man 2 on NES.  Now don't get me wrong, those were great games I loved then and still love now but I was behind the times. I just didn't have a Super Nintendo, like most of my peers that I went to school with.  I just had the Sega. So when most were playing Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger and A Link to Past – I was playing Sonic... Sonic (Sonic 2)... and Sonic... (Sonic 3 but not & knuckles)
BUT Sonic is great!
Tumblr media
When my friends had a Gameboy Advance, I still had a Gameboy Color.  When the DS was the hot handheld, I got a Gameboy Advance, I got a 3DS around the time Fire Emblem Fates came out when it seemed like everyone was clamoring for a new portable technology and I got a Wii U when it was all but dead.  As previous stated, I only got a Switch last September.  Heck, I haven't even played the new Mary-o yet
Tumblr media
Pushing forwarding in the way back machine to the time when I was a still a young teen, at the age of 14, I remember a Gameboy Color game came out that I really wanted to get – Shantae.  I don't even know why I really wanted it other than it was a new Gameboy Color game when new Gameboy Color games weren't coming out.  Like, I remember the Gameboy Advance came out about a year ago but  I didn't need one according to my parents-
Me: Mom, can I get a Gameboy Advanced? Mom: You have Gameboy Advance at Home ::At home::
Tumblr media
So the impact of a new Gameboy Color game coming out - blew … me … away.
Tumblr media
Of course - I didn't get that game either.
Now don't get me wrong, I still got games as a kid on birthdays and Christmas but I feel like the games I didn't get are the ones I look back at and think – If only...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(^I never had a Neo Geo but I wanted this game)
Love you Mom and Dad
Back to Shantae though
Tangents aside – why do I think I like this game?
Why is it when I played Half Genie Hero in June of 2019 did I really got hooked on it well until the end of summer? I play, play, played it – all the modes, collect the endings, the tedious achievements like Queen of the Seven Cheese where you have to beat Risky Boots by just chomping at her as a mouse doing 1 damage at at a time.... ugh!  For achievements I even … gasp (teeth noise) … speed ran it.  And successfully, not on my first attempt though!  Or … at least successfully enough to get the endings and achievements.  I've never speed ran a game before, at least on purpose.  I drew bad fan art!
Tumblr media
(^Unlike everything else on this post, I actually drew that [sorry])
For the first time in my life I even looked into Fan Fiction.
Which, on a side note, I don't recommend you look at most of the fan fiction that I’ve seen if you are at work.
The game really got its hooks into me and I'm not exactly sure why but I think I might know.
Tumblr media
Well, it feels like a SEGA Genesis game – long story short.
Short story long - I think the best way to classify what kind of game this is, is Metroidvania.  You have a mini map and you unlock powers that later allow you to explore the rest of the levels you had previous been to and there are collectibles and upgrades you can buy in game.  As you play you can upgrade how Shantae attacks by purchasing upgrades for her hair whip attack or armor but the big mechanic is the transformations – you can turn into animals with varied attacks and abilities as well as some other inanimate objects and living things like this tree
Tumblr media
- to help you better get across the stages and discover the secrets of Sequin Land.
Tumblr media
I've also read its kind of Mega Man– ish which I had never really thought about before but yeah, because I do love some Mega Man.  It has a lot of obstacles/the levels are kinds of obstacle courses like the early NES Mega Man games and there are two areas particularly in my mind – The factory in Mermaid Falls and the Hypno Baron's Castle part of the … Hypno Baron's Castle stage.  Well most of it is actually like an obstacle course now that I think about it
Tumblr media
The score is by Jake Kauffman and man, AND if I ever make a game I want that guy doing my music.  I mentioned the factory part of Mermaid Falls before – the best track in the game and maybe even in any game I've ever heard is Counterfeit Mermaids,  its such an earworm,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkXd26E_Ynw
I feel like this song and Neo Town Burning are the two best games
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yParHIzy1nA
You are going to be in the camp that one is better than the other (though Counterfeit Mermaids is clearly the superior track, ahem)
Tumblr media
Its a great soundtrack, I find myself tuning into it during my commute to work and sometime even turning off my podcast or audio books to listen to this soundtrack (yes Even Neo Town Burning too).  The game's lead voice actress according IMDB is Cristina Valenzuela (sometimes credited as Cristina Vee) who sings the games title theme that also appears in the first level, Scuttle Town the first time you play the level and also when you first boot up the game its there too. POW! Give it a listen – sample plays and fades.  Its great.  This soundtrack is really memorable and still in my rotation almost a year after I played it for the first time.
The characters themselves too are varied in personality and the styles are now toted as being“in high definition”.
Shantae is my least favorite but I think that works well in the sense of self insert. And that's not to say Shantae doesn't have a personality, she is kind of bubbly and she cares a lot about her ties such as to her family - such her uncle Mimic and her late mother - and to her friends.  The three main friends that back Shantae during her journey (that also get their own adventure in the DLC)
Tumblr media
Sky - a somewhat more responsible friend of your that is out to give you some counsel and a ride to each stage on her cool bird
Tumblr media
Bolo – who offers a bit of comic relief
Tumblr media
Rotty Tops the zombie that is a true friend that shows up to support you and cheer you on, in one time literally too.
Tumblr media
By the way there is also Risky Boots (the best character, IMO) who is the larger than life antagonist to akin to a comic book villain.
Tumblr media
But even with the “HD” graphics, and incredible score everything about just feels like … a Sega game.  I can't really put it to words to do it justice, like, it has the essence of games I grew up with.  I know a lot of people already had that nostalgia rush with Freedom Planet or Sonic Mania but I only just got Freedom Planet on Switch
Tumblr media
Which is great so far, by the way
and Sonic Mania is on my to do pile
Tumblr media
so for me – Shantae was it.
I felt that joy like I was 5 years old playing Sonic 2 for the first time.  I took me something embarrassing like 8 hours to beat the first time.  But after I beat it, I immediately wanted to play it again.  I almost NEVER want to replay a game after I beat it – Best case is I take a break and play it again in a year. While it took me a laughable amount of hours to beat the game the first time but by the time I was really invested and on the 3rd or 4th time replaying it, I was completing it in under 2 hours.  I was looking up speed running strats and Youtube videos of people speed running the game to compare and contrast how I played the game.  I never, ever thought that I would speed run a game. Super Metroid still takes me an embarrassing number of hours to play and I've beat that almost as many times as Shantae now.
Tumblr media
Having played both the Xbox One and Switch versions they look pretty similar and seem to play about the same.  I noticed that the game seems to run a bit better on the Xbox One and the load times aren't as long
So I really recommend you get this game.  I'm super jealous if you've never played it, you get to experience it for the first time!  If you don't have an Xbox One but have a Switch you can get the physical version for pretty cheap, used I got this copy for about $20 and it has all the game content.  And with the DLC you can finally play as Risky Boots!
Tumblr media
It goes without saying that the game I am most excited for this year, 2020 is going to be Shantae and the Seven Sirens.
Tumblr media
If you don't have an Xbox or a Switch, the game is also on PC too. Steam has sales, last time the Ultimate Edition was on sale it was only about $21 (show pic) and with a plug and play controls great.
Tumblr media
And just as I was checking before posting this, it is on sale for $20.99 until March 30th, 2020
Its also on PS4, I guess if you don’t have any other options

Mobile & Cloud Gaming to Push Video Games Market to Over $200B by 2023, finds Juniper Research
A brand new report from Juniper Research discovered that the video video games business will exceed $200 billion in worth in 2023, rising from an anticipated $155 billion in 2020.
Cell and cloud gaming will lead this development, because the market shifts additional in the direction of recurring income, and buy income declines by 5% over that interval.
Tumblr media
The new research notes that the recognition of F2P (free-to-play) video games like Fortnite and Name of Responsibility Cell is intensifying the transfer to in-game monetisation. The report exhibits that cloud gaming and different online game subscriptions will develop at a median price of 9% per 12 months; bringing in over $Eight billion of income in 2023. Nonetheless, this is not going to instantly compensate for declining buy income.
‘At present gaming subscription costs, it’ll take a median of ten months of a subscription cost to cowl the retail value of a single AAA recreation,’ remarked analysis co-author James Moar. ‘The worth of those platforms lies in conserving gamers inside an ecosystem; guaranteeing that income throughout a number of video games is captured by a single platform.’
F2P Video games Altering the Panorama
Because of avid gamers signing as much as subscription companies like EA Entry, Google Stadia and Xbox Gamepass and shopping for fewer standalone video games, solely cellular video games will see a internet improve in video games installs between 2020 and 2023. Nonetheless, 99% of cellular recreation downloads within the subsequent three years shall be F2P. We anticipate lower than 50% of PC recreation installs over that interval to be paid for, because of a mix of recreation giveaways and F2P enterprise fashions.
PC video games would be the most profitable section for in-game purchases; approaching $32 billion in 2023. Whereas cellular video games may have extra purchases, greater worth recreation growth purchases will maintain PC in-game income development sturdy. Smartphone in-app income will develop at a median of 8% over the forecast interval, as smartphone gaming in rising markets grows.

343 Addresses Halo Infinite’s Graphics, Chances Of A Multiplayer Beta, And Craig The Brute In Its Community Update
July 31, 2020 2:59 AM EST
343 Industries tackled some of the biggest questions surrounding Halo Infinite following its campaign demo last week.
There’s been a lot of talk around Halo Infinite since its gameplay reveal last week during the Xbox Games Showcase, all a mix of good, bad, ugly (depending on who you ask), and Craig.
In its latest community update, posted Thursday night on Halo Waypoint, developer 343 Industries set out to address most of Infinite’s major points of conversation, the biggest of which — well, aside from the internet’s new favorite Brute — being its graphics.
Infinite’s campaign demo received a good deal of criticism for looking visually underwhelming, especially when it’s taken into account that this game is supposed to be the headliner for the launch of the next-gen Xbox Series X later this year. Common complaints consisted of characters and environments looking flat, instances of object pop-in, and dull and simplistic lighting.
343 heard all of it, saw the Digital Foundry analysis too, Halo community manager John Junyszek wrote, going on to explain that Infinite’s look is the result of a choice in overall art style and a level of visual fidelity that’s still a work in progress.
“Based on our learnings from Halo 4, Halo 5, and Halo Wars 2 – along with strong community feedback – we decided to shift back towards the legacy aesthetics that defined the original trilogy,” Junyszek explained. “With Halo Infinite, we’re returning to a more ‘classic’ art style which was a key message going back to the very first reveal that garnered enthusiastic and positive responses. This translates to a more vibrant palette, “cleaner” models and objects with less “noise,” though it doesn’t mean less detail.
“While we appreciate this may not be everyone’s personal preference, we stand by this decision and are happy to see it resonating with so many fans around the world.”
youtube
Junyszek added that the build used to run the gameplay demo was several weeks old by the time it was shown off, and had various graphical elements and in-game systems still being fine-tuned. Some of the feedback the team was already aware of and working on, he wrote, but that fans also raised some new points that devs are now assessing.
“We don’t have firm answers or outcomes to share yet but the team is working as quickly as possible on plans to address some of the feedback around detail, clarity, and overall fidelity,” Junyszek wrote. “The team is committed and focused on making sure we have a beautiful world for players to explore when we launch.”

Soon after Infinite’s campaign gameplay debuted, 343 had to squash a rumor that the game’s multiplayer was delayed. It will be there when the game launches. A pre-release beta though? That one is up in the air.
“The Xbox Games Showcase was only meant to focus on Halo Infinite’s campaign. However, I can’t blame you all for being curious about the multiplayer experience,” Junyszek wrote. “As Chris Lee mentioned in his blog which accompanied the demo last week, our original plans for large-scale flighting aren’t where we originally intended in large part due to the challenges of working from home during the COVID-19.
“At this time we’re honestly not sure what is going to be possible in terms of flighting but we still hope to have an opportunity for broader public hands-on before release. And, as we’ve previously stated, we’ll be relying on flighting and continued feedback and community partnership well beyond launch as we grow and evolve the game together.”
As for the chances of a public release of the campaign demo: No luck there, have to wait for the game to come out.

Other news and notes from Thursday night’s update:
Craig the Brute is basking in his internet stardom: “We’ve all laughed very hard at the nonstop stream of Craig memes the community is cranking out. Craig is thick-skinned and seems to be taking it in stride though all of this fame and attention seems to be going to his head.”
Nicolas Roye (voice of Octane in Apex Legends) plays the Pilot, and Darin De Paul (J. Jonah Jameson in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Ardyn in Final Fantasy XV) plays the Banished War Chief Escharum.
The story takes place a good amount of time after Halo 5.
The campaign demo revealed a more open-world structure to the ring, and in turn, 343 is trying to keep kill barriers or “return to battlefield zones to a minimum. “There will always be some exceptions, but usually if you can see it, you should be able to go there.”
As confirmed last week, the campaign supports two-player splitscreen and four-player online co-op. The game will also have LAN support.
The Battle Rifle is returning, but will be joined by a new pistol (MK50 “Sidekick”) and shotgun (CQS48 “Bulldog”). For right now, the classic Magnum and Tactical Shotgun aren’t in the game.
The Easy, Normal, Heroic, and Legendary campaign difficulties have carried over into Infinite.
The new Grappleshot (Master Chief’s fancy new grappling hook) will carry over into multiplayer as an item that can be picked up on the map.
Black undersuits will be in the game to let your armor stand out more, and players who liked Halo Reach’s level of armor customization might be very happy with Infinite.
Players who managed to reach Spartan Rank 152 in Halo 5 will get a “a token of appreciation” in Infinite.
Forge is back, and will have undo and redo buttons.
There will be no paid loot boxes in Infinite as far as microtransactions go.
Infinite will be available on PC through Xbox Gamepass for PC, the Microsoft Store, and Steam.
4K resolution at 60 frames per second is the target for the campaign on Series X, but PC players will have more settings to play around with that will be talked about later on.
Gareth Coker, of Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and Will of the Wisps fame, is one of three new composers contributing to Infinite’s soundtrack.
Halo Infinite will launch alongside the Xbox Series X this Holiday.

Microsoft Surface sales near $2 billion, but it's Azure cloud business is growing faster
Tumblr media
Cloud, cloud, cloud, followed by Office, gaming, Surface and then Windows: By now, Microsoft has laid out its priorities, and the financial results Microsoft reported Wednesday afternoon reflected this. For consumers, the high point of Microsoft’s fourth-quarter calendar 2019 results was the fact that Microsoft reported $1.98 billion in Surface sales alone—almost, but not quite, making Surface a $2 billion-dollar business. Interestingly, chief financial officer Amy Hood implied that sales could have been higher, referring to unexplained “execution challenges” in the consumer portion of the Surface business. Overall, Microsoft reported profits of $11.6 billion during the second quarter of its fiscal 2020 calendar, up 38 percent from a year ago, from revenue of $36.9 billion, up 14 percent from the same period. The More Personal Computing business that includes Windows, Xbox, and Surface still generates the most revenue at $13.2 billion. However, it reported just two-percent growth—and that was better than expected, Hood said, due to strong Windows PC sales. Microsoft's growth is primarily being driven by the Intelligent Cloud business, and specifically Microsoft Azure. The Intelligent Cloud business recorded $11.9 billion in revenue, growing by a whopping 27 percent. Within that business, Azure grew by 62 percent just by itself. In all, Intelligent Cloud once again edged out Microsoft’s Productivity and Business Processes ($11.8 billion) in terms of revenue. Microsoft’s Productivity and Business Processes—Office and Microsoft Dynamics, plus related services—saw 17-percent growth, fueled by 20-percent growth in Office 365 consumer revenue and 37.2 million consumer subscribers. Microsoft’s MPC business faces more uncertainty than it has in the past. Revenue is expected to drop fairly substantially during the first quarter, Microsoft said, due to a variety of factors. The first, of course, is seasonality: Consumers buy far less during the first calendar quarter than they do during the holidays. Then there are flagging parts of the business, such as search advertising revenue, which dropped from 14-percent growth a year ago to just 6 percent. Microsoft also acknowledged that the PC market supply chain is changing to adjust for reduced demand. The corporate PC market hastily bought new Windows 10 PCs in advance of the January 14 deadline that just passed, when Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 7. Windows OEM revenue in the current quarter might grow just by low to mid-single digits, Hood said. Overall, the MPC revenue outlook ranges between $10.75 billion and $12.05 billion, a wider spread than normal. Hood called out the uncertainty of the public coronavirus health scare in China, too. It’s unclear what Hood meant when she predicted low single-digit growth for Surface as the company “works through challenges in the consumer segment.” Neither Hood nor Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella explained whether Hood was referring to slower-than-expected sales in consumer Surface devices (versus Surface for Business sales), or whether Microsoft had designated certain devices like the Surface Go as specifically consumer products. (A Microsoft representative declined to comment further when asked to clarify Hood's remarks.) Gaming revenue, which Microsoft said fell 21 percent, will be understandably slow at the moment. AMD, the supplier responsible for the chips powering the Xbox One as well as the upcoming Microsoft Xbox Series X, said that SoC chip sales would be negligible for the near future. Xbox content and services fell 11 percent, Microsoft said, in part because of strong sales of games a year ago. As sales of the Xbox Series X begin to come in, however, revenue contributions will begin to increase during the second half of the year, Hood added. Nevertheless, Microsoft said it reached a new record level in Xbox Live users, and that GamePass subscriptions had doubled. Microsoft’s Project xCloud, allowing consumers to play games on a cellular phone directly from the Azure cloud, has attracted “hundreds of thousands” of users, according to Nadella. Transcript for: Rethinking what my ideal of a video game is or Moving out and the future, past of video games video
If you missed it, I re-added it to the bottom of this post and the link is here:
https://youtu.be/JSJM-2L38dw
Written transcript for my last Youtube video (not a 1:1 but based off of my word file that I read for the video):
So what do I think of when I hear the phrase video game?  For me its pretty much a gambit of Triple A big budget titles – God of War, Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty come to my mind.  If I had to make my best guess its probably because they are the corporate, Triple A games.  Those Triple A games have over the years have been drilled into my brain to mean their big budgets are the ones synonymous with quality, that they are the penultimate ideal of a video game - the Triple A title.  These are the games that get the clout and win the awards every year and get (sometimes) yearly sequels and all the attention.
But when I think about the games that I really love, is that really accurate?
Not usually.  Cuphead and the Shantae series are the games most recent that I unabashedly love and find myself regularly going back to.  While I do enjoy some triple A titles like Gears V and Paper Mario: The Origami King, I have been playing a lot more indie games recently.  I helped kickstart Yooka Laylee back in 2015 and my most recent backing is the upcoming Symphony of the Night inspired Metroidvania, The Last Faith.
Perhaps that reasoning for Triple A is because most indie games, even the best ones, don't hold that long term place in my heart or even memories even when they are good due to that Triple A bias.  When was the last time I really thought about World of Goo for instance?  Or even a more popular game like Limbo? Braid is only on my radar again because it is getting a remake and that game was especially huge when it came out.
This isn't to say either that Triple A games are all bad or that Indie games are the only real good ones. You can enjoy both, either or neither.  The latter is, I suppose, if you don't like video games.  That and there are indie games that last, while these games haven't been out a very long time titles like Undertale and Shovel Knight have had more lasting power and I don't think myself or anyone will be forgetting about them anytime soon, or at least I hope we don't.
Rather I bring this up to go back to the core of the the question, what do I think about when I hear the phrase “video game,” I think I have a new response to reprogram my brain to what I want and not what has been ingrained into me.  And the best example I can now think of is … Moving Out.
Moving Out is now my example not because its my new favorite game, (though I really do like it) but its because the game really gets at my core of what I like.  Its easy to pick up and play, its not exploitative, it has a lot of content to really delve deep into but it can also be played in a few short bursts.  It controls well and I don't feel frustrated by the challenges.  Its a game that's easy to beat but hard to master.
First off without even touching the game, the aesthetic is something that I really dig.  Its that late 80s / early 90s before the 90s were really determined as a decade look that, for me, is really nostalgic being a 90s kid that was born in the 80s.  Its look is very colorful and done for laughs – that laugh at loud funny / cartoony – and not photo realistic vibe. Hell, your certification to become a mover is what's known as a Furniture Arrangement & Relocation Technician.  That is spelled out as an anagram – its F.A.R.T., fart.  You play as a FART
::laughs::
You can't tell me you can't appreciate a good fart joke, and its a clever one.
So in my opinion the humor and aesthetic is on point and that's before you even really get into playing the game.  The game itself is full to the brim with clever word play and jokes.  Even dragging around the furniture and breaking things without any regard when you are supposed to be a professional mover, made me laugh out loud time and again and even harder later on when my wife noticed me doing it.
Also before you even play the first level of the game, this game tells you that if you aren't having fun that there is an *accessibility mode (*Assist Mode) you can activate.  In a world of fake Cuphead controversy and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice MEMEs where you cheat yourself-  This complete disregard of “real gamer” credentials to just say “HEY!  We want you to enjoy the game, there's no wrong way to do it” is extremely refreshing.  And its not done as an insult, its not deemed “easy mode” and playing with these options doesn't disable achievements either.
But back to accessibility, you also right off the bat can customize your character to be in a wheelchair. I love that, I like the representation and the fact that its a simple thing the devs did to be more inclusive.  But customization doesn't end there.  You can customization your character appearance with a lot of varied and different outfits and colors.  As you play you naturally unlock more characters to use just from playing the game.  Crazy right?
My only minor gripe that also is a fair counterpoint to that claim is while this game doesn't have micro-transactions, it does have one piece of downloadable content. The downloadable content, or DLC, is the employees of the month pack. This offers more movers for you to play as.  Originally this was a pre-order incentive given for free that you now have to pay for. While it would be great if it was bundled in, at least this game is a budget title with plenty of characters and customization options even without those few extra characters.  Not only that but with the latest updated we got some more polish, bug fixes and a new character so it takes the sting out of what would otherwise be a perfect point. And the extra characters don't gate off any additional content of achievements either if you don't have them.
long with playing the story mode, there are also tasks you can unlock after clearing a stage in the story to go back and get coins.  These coins are used in the game's arcade to unlock bonus stages.  There are also bonus stages unlocked from getting gold medals from clearing the stages in a certain time limit.  Its brilliant both in adding replay value and having a type of in game currency that you can spend on the game without paying real money to unlock.  I want more games to do this.
Only in 2020 is something like that a big deal that was so standard in the games I grew up on.
So overall with the one issue about the DLC the price is pretty fair, a budget title of $23-$28 (pictured at $29.99 on sale for $19.99) and if you were to pay for the the few extra characters that's an additional $2.99.  That's about less than half the cost of a new Triple A title, and even less considering a new console generation is around the corner and games are priced to be maybe be $70.
Yikes!
I love all the care that went into Moving Out- I love the humor, the look, the gameplay, the price point.  It may not be my favorite game of 2020 by the end of the year and it may not be yours either but I really implore you to at least try this game.  If you have Xbox Gamepass Ultimate, this game is available to download on both Xbox One and PC.  I feel like these kind of indie games could be the real future of gaming or at least what I hope it is, by doing so much of what I loved from video games of the past. Treating video games like video games as a product again, and not a media service to bleed the player dry.
