Coronation Cocktail No. 1
Tumblr media
Like Lady Alleyn --Chief Inspector Roderick Alleyn's mamma, whom I was delighted to encounter in Artists in Crime--, I believe that after a good bit of gardening one has earned a sherry. But I've stirred mine with vermouth, to make this beautifully light and fragrant Coronation Cocktail No. 1, which I'm sure the Alleyns, mother and son, have a sip of every now and then! Happy Saturday!
Ingredients (serves 1):
8 ice cubes
60 millilitres/2 fluid ounces (4 tablespoons) dry vermouth
30 millilitres/1 fluid ounce (2 tablespoons) dry fino sherry
two dashes maraschino liqueur
three dashes orange bitters
a lemon twist, for garnish
Place ice cubes in a mixing glass.
Pour dry vermouth and sherry over the ice. Add dashes of maraschino liqueur and orange bitters.
Stir gently with a bar spoon until well-chilled.
Strain cocktail into a chilled coupe glass, and garnish with lemon twist.
Enjoy Coronation Cocktail No. 1 immediately.

#latreilledor #caviste #maitrecaviste #fierdetrecaviste #cavisteindependant #paris14 #spirits #whisky #singlemalt #scotchwhisky #speyside (à La Treille d'Or) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjkhXJfthyM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🖊 Xere!
Oh man, I don't do enough with Xere 😔 She's my ex-Flame, current Ash, and she's kind of a pistol, lots of fun but real scrappy. Fought in Drizzlewood with her new-at-the-time warband! I've always imagined her as an absolute bulldog, powers through things and gets them done if for the sheer spite of it all. Not that she's unfriendly or unpleasant! Just like, put her on a task and she'll get it done if she has the burn the place down to do it. I love her she's a mess

42. Do you have a favourite swear word?
Not really? I don't swear too much, just because I rarely feel the need for that much self expression, not because I dislike swearing or something. Most of us don't really believe in the concept of swear words anyway. Different people consider different words "swear words," people dislike different words, the words' connotation changes based on context, and all in all they're just words that people use to express strong emotion or for emphasis. We really don't subscribe to the "ooo spooky taboo words" that "swear word" is associated with.

Some bits and pieces of writing focused on the “what happens when a demon is summoned and how fucked are you as a bystander / exorcist” aspect of IO, taken from three entries that I’d like to throw on my site once finished:
MOTHERKIN
[...] Cursing a victim with possession of spirit of a Motherkin often advances to a physical manifestation of the demon, whether a physical manifestation is desired or not. Manifestation of a Motherkin demon is a messy affair that results in the death of the afflicted. The body of the victim may undergo metamorphosis or spectacular aberration before their body ruptures or otherwise stretches and peels to reveal the demon. The manifesting of a Motherkin in this fashion is the result of a botched execution of a possession curse, and cannot be rectified. Targets affected will experience a sudden and irresistible desire to eat, and will consume well beyond their basic physiological ability to digest or contain. Their bodies will expand or lengthen beyond the grip of the skin, leading to eventual bodily rupture. Impossible lengths of tract will worm out from the cavity until the demon herself emerges. In some cases, a second or third Motherkin may follow after the first. Unless an especially skilled and prepared exorcist is present, immediate evacuation is advised the moment signs of a botched possession are apparent. The victim will become a manifestation site anywhere within three minutes to a half hour, and once manifested the demon will remain for up to an hour before returning to Hell of her own accord.
Exorcism of a manifested Motherkin is a difficult affair with few options to send the demon back to Hell. Even if an invoker is able to send the creature back to Hell and free themselves, the umbrage of a Motherkin is infinite, and she will hound the summoner from within Hell until either one or the other dies. The victim will experience regular night-terrors, and should they attempt any invocation, regardless of target, the demon will attempt to interrupt or "hijack" the audience to break through to exact revenge. Incantations as small as asking a lesser demon for minor blessings can serve as a means for the Motherkin to reach their former summoner. [...]
XERES
[...] Discovering and exorcising the demon requires the use of gold, as the Xeres' spirit will appear in its reflection. Any polished surface of real gold, plated or solid, will reveal the demon, but the larger the item the greater the chance of the creature taking notice of the exorcist and acting against them. Invoking Christ is considered ineffective in combating Xeres, as the demon possesses no fear of the crucifix, holy water, or reverence towards the power of Yaweh. Attempting to expel a Xeres with Judeo-Christianic methods will result in retaliation. Those possessed will likely strike at the exorcist, or aggravated phenomena will occur within the afflicted house, generally taking the form of waste seeping out of floor boards and the spontaneous tarnishing of precious material immediately nearby.
A mirror plated in 24-carat gold can exorcise a Xeres from a victim or a home instantly, but the mirror itself must be at least eight feet tall, capture the creature's direct gaze, and be immediately covered to prevent the demon from escaping. Xeres trapped in a golden mirror can escape back through the item as a physical manifestation should it become uncovered. Sending a trapped Xeres back to Hell requires the destruction of the mirror. A Xeres can be held in the mirror for a prolonged period of time for so long as the item's reflective surface is completely covered. Cloth or paint serve equally well, but if paint is used, the coating must be consistent, and any cloth must be of an intact weave, as any exposure of the mirror's face can allow the demon to fight for freedom. A Xeres-possessed mirror will warp and spoil any valuables within twenty metres. Metal will tarnish, stones will corrode and fog, paintings and rugs will decay at an accelerated rate, food will rot into waste, and wine will convert to ammonia. [...]
STALKER
[...] Stalkers are summoned through want of vengeance. Those who have suffered, either by real or by perceived means, under the actions of a person or group, have the potential to summon and release a Stalker against their perpetrators. Similar to the Sagog, Stalkers are wrested from Hell's grip via high emotional investment. The sole component of summoning a Stalker is emotional, with the process of the summon itself largely unknown. The Stalker's notation in the Book of Blood is vague on direct specifics, mentioning only that "Those with the desire will face and draw the demon forth by command, the brightening flame of vengeance in their hearts will be the demon's nectar." No description of a distinct "command" or means of "facing" the demon is given, but a warning quickly follows: "Tenders to vengeance beware, should their flames be lit under false pretense, the demon will snuff the wick."
The summoning of a Stalker demon is a guarantee of eventual murder, and more often than not the demon is not even suspected until after the deed has been done, much less caught. The victim of the demon will always be either a "Perpetrator" of malicious deeds - the focus of the summoner's emotional turmoil, or a "Liar" - the summoner themselves.
Once summoned, the demon will manifest within a radius of 50 miles of the summoner from a hole in the ground, far removed from any observance. Once fully emerged, it will begin its pursuit. The spiritual disturbance resulting from the manifestation of a Stalker is so minimal as to be nonexistent; the sole indicator that a Stalker has been summoned is the absence of animal life within 100 feet of the hole from which it emerged. For the duration of its pursuit, the hole left behind will be damp, inexplicably dark, and teeming with "familiar" yet unknown insect vermin, collapsing upon the completion of its duty. [...]
The human-centric aspect of IO’s narrative is by and large composed of episodic encounters between a very small contingent of exorcists and a select few demons in IO’s pantheon of troublemakers - in the vein of a “monster of the week” show, and these entries are written in that sort of spirit. I hope to share the full versions sometime soonish.
