The 1D Library, our beloved Discord server, is honoured to present its first fic exchange! To anyone who’s confused about how an exchange works, it’s simple: you donate a prompt that someone random is going to write, and you get someone else’s prompt to write it yourself! This is done anonymously, like gift shopping for Secret Santa, which only adds to the excitement!
🎄 RULES
• The minimum word count is 3,000 words. There is no maximum.
• Even though this is a Holiday exchange, prompts don’t need to be Holiday-related. Prompts of any nature or AU are allowed.
• All pairings are accepted, as long as they include at least one member or former member of One Direction.
• You don’t need to be part of the Library to join the fest—but we would love to have you!
• What you do need to, however, is to make a post for your fic when the time comes. If you don’t know how or if you want the Library to do it for you, just reach out to us.
• This is not an anonymous fest, meaning you can share snippets of your work—and tag us! Trying to find out who got your fic may be fun! If you’re not into that, you can just share a non-revealing snippet too.
• Because this is a two-way dynamic, we ask you to only sign up if there’s a very slim (or non-existing) chance of you dropping out.
🌟 SCHEDULE
• Sign ups — September 21 to October 5
• Deadline (fics need to be posted to the collection) — December 18
• Fics start posting — December 20

Q: It all sounds great and all, but what if I get a prompt of something I don't want to write?
A: At first, all the writers will be matched at random, so we can provide the surprise effect of getting something you wouldn't normally write. Afterwards, we will go through your "no-no" list, which you will have provided to us in the Form, to make sure the prompt isn't disrespecting any of your limits. If that's the case, we're pairing you with someone else. Don't worry!
Q: What happens if I drop out?
A: Your Secret Santa will not receive their fic for Christmas... sniff.
Q: Can I tell people whose prompt I got?
A: No! To preserve the Christmas spirit, they must only be revealed when the fic is posted.

Harry nearly chokes on his drink, just barely managing to swallow. “Hrng,” he manages, trying not to cough. “Um. Yeah, I think I saw it on Facebook. Good for him.”
“Well.” Niall shrugged. “I figured it just made sense."
Harry feels goosebumps rise on his arms. “What do you mean?”
“I just think you and Louis should date,” Niall says. “I think you’d be good together, you know? You were friends in high school, weren’t you?”
“Erm.” Harry swallows. “Friends isn’t exactly the term I’d use.” Niall doesn’t need to know what terms he would use.
Or, Harry and Louis kind of secretly sort of dated in high school. Now it's two years later and they're both back in town for Christmas and it's awkward. Until it isn't.
