You hurriedly rush into the rec room, picking out a table with two open chairs for you and Wonwoo to sit at. He follows behind you while holding your bookbag, trying to hide the smile on his face at the thought of getting to spend the night with you.

He sets both yours and his bags on the table as you pull out a chair for him. He sits down, a joking “you’re such a gentleman” leaving his lips, and you giggle before taking the seat next to him.

An hour or so goes by, you and Wonwoo having finished your assignment that was due that night and moved on to studying for a test the next week. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to you, there was a very nervous someone standing right outside the door of the rec room, building up the courage to step in with snacks and a drink, just as he had done last week.

The big glass door swings open, and the movement in your peripheral piques you. You glance up quickly, back down to your book, then back up when you realize who had just walked in and was now headed your way. Wonwoo saw him too, and despite the glare he was given, Chan walked right up to the table you sat at and placed the bag of pastries down with the drink. He pulled the chair across from you out and sat down, grinning at you.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” You lean forward and give him a concerned look.

“I just thought I’d bring you some food again to get you through your study session!” His eyes trail to Wonwoo, who’s staring him down. He knew exactly who he was and wanted to find out his relation to you. “Who’s this, Yn?”

Wonwoo speaks up before you can, his tone low and almost threatening.

“I’m her best friend. What are you doing here?”

“Oh! You know who I am?”

“I know exactly who you are, Lee Chan.” Wonwoo stands up out of his seat and places his hands on the table, leaning forward to get closer to Chan. “And I don’t know why you think you can just come in here like it’s nothing, but if you haven’t guessed by now, I do not like you.”

Chan just smirks up at him and slowly stands up himself.

You rush to step in before things can escalate any further, grabbing Wonwoo by the shoulders and pushing him back down into his seat.

“Okayy! Good talk everyone!” You pull the bag of snacks and drink closer to yourself and turn to Chan. “Please, just leave- come on, I’ll walk you out.”

You walk around to the other side of the table and grab Chan’s arm, dragging him out of the building, but not before he got one last word in to your best friend.

“Yn can make her own decisions about who she wants to be friends with or not, Jeon Wonwoo.”

You drag him out faster and swing the doors of the rec room open, pushing him out.

“Yn, I-”

You cut him off.

“Chan just- thank you for the food but you should probably head back to your dorm. I’ll text you later.”

You head back into the rec room to continue your night with Wonwoo, not even bothering to touch the snacks Chan had brought for you.

The cool air of the rec room didn’t phase you, your hoodie keeping you warm and comfortable. Your books were strewn around the table, highlighters and pens sitting on top of them. The tall windows of the room gave you a view of the rest of the campus that surrounded you, the lights of the buildings illuminating the night. 

There was nothing better than a self-study session, the bustling of others around you as background noise, the atmosphere of the night being absolutely perfect. The rec room was emptier than usual, probably because most people would be at NCIT’s first frat party of the year, which was always the biggest one.

Unbeknownst to you, a certain someone did not find the night as calming as you did. A certain someone who stood outside the rec room, holding a bag filled with your favorite snacks in one hand  and a bouquet of calla lillies in the other. He took a moment to collect himself and prepare himself for the possible worst that was to come before opening the door in front of him and stepping in.

His eyes surveyed the many tables around him, finally landing on you. Looking peaceful, cozy, content.

As your eyes scan the anatomy textbook in front of you, your peripherals catch something. Something being placed on your table. The ruffle of cellophane- a bag? A bouquet of flowers. A bag of snacks. Your eyes trail up to the owner.

Lee Chan.

You pray to the world that this is a sick joke.

“What do you think you’re doing?” You ask as he finishes placing the items down. Your eyes watch as he stands awkwardly for a few moments before making his way around to your side of the table. His eyes look nervous, his mouth open as if he wants to say something, but no words come out.

“Look, Chan, I don’t know what you’re doing but-”

Your jaw drops when he falls to his knees in front of you, eyes toward the floor.

“HEY-” You yell at him in shock, but your voice falls to a whisper-scream when you realize that others around you are looking at the spectacle.

“Chan, get up- please get up. You don’t have to-"

"Yn, I never apologized properly to you, I wanted to-"

"Not here, and not like this, Chan. Get up, come on, get up and we’ll talk about this, okay?”

He stands up slowly, and you can almost see tears forming in his eyes. You look at him worriedly and motion for him to sit across from you, to which he obliges.

“I’m sorry, Yn. I really am. I realized recently that I never apologized to you properly. I’m sorry for everything I did in the past, for making you value yourself that low because you never deserved that. You never deserved any of what I did to you, and I’m sorry. There’s no excuse for what I did, I was a stupid kid who didn’t know how to handle my feelings about you. I’m asking, sincerely, for you to give me a chance to prove myself to you. If you decline now, I promise I’ll leave you alone and never bother you again.”

He never breaks eye contact, even when you see a single tear fall from the corner of his eyes.

You feel for him. You feel his sincerity, his emotion, and you know he means everything he says. 

Your mind runs a mile a minute. You know it's not right to give him another chance after everything he's done to you. How could you? He destroyed you. 

But there was that small voice in your mind and heart telling you to do it. Give him the chance. That he'll make everything better and you won't have any bad blood with anyone anymore. That all the bad memories can be replaced with good ones. Truth be told, you didn't want to hold anyone in such a bad light. You didn't want anyone in your life to be remembered along with trauma.

However, before you gave him your answer, you had just one question.

“Okay, but how did you know what all my favorite things were?” You asked him while motioning to the gifts.

“I asked Momo, Seungcheol, and Jeonghan. I noticed you hang out with them the most, so I got their numbers from Mark Lee since they’re also friends with him.”

You sigh. He even went to your best friends to help him with this.

“Fine. One more chance. But any hint of you screwing up and you’re cut out of my life forever.”

A bright smile spreads across Chan’s face, and he wipes his tears. He thanks you profusely, obvious excitement in his expression. You give a small smile back. 

“Are you gonna leave now to go to the party?”

“No, I’d rather stay with you.”

“You’re only gonna be a distraction to my studying.”

“Oh come on, I can help you. What are you studying?”

“Here, look.” You push your book toward him.

“Nevermind, I’ll just sit here and leave you to it.”

You laugh lightly, and Chan smiles. 

You think, well, you hope this won’t be a terrible idea.
