Monsterfucking & You (a geraskier fic preview)
Chapter 1: All Its Sad Goodbyes
Geralt was absolutely not worried about Jaskier. It was perfectly normal for the bard to disappear, especially at night. He was probably -- actually undoubtedly -- just off sleeping with some of the people he had been making eyes at during his performance in the tavern earlier in the evening. So Geralt found himself sitting alone in their shared inn room, definitely not pining. Because witchers don’t pine. He was just annoyed with the unpredictability of his traveling companion, and not knowing whether he was currently dying slowly in some ditch, or being lavished as the centerpiece of  a fantastic orgy that Geralt was, of course, not invited to.
Grumbling, he finally moved to take off his boots and strip to his smallclothes. Geralt had  been staring at the wall long enough that the cracks were beginning to form faces, and figured it was about time to at least pretend to sleep. Since Jaskier had become a constant in his life, Geralt had gotten used to having him nearby while he slept, so without him, he had no hope for actually sleeping. He refused to think too deeply on why the absence bothered him so much beyond a simple disruption of habit.
He also decided he did not have the energy to once again mentally berate himself about letting a human have such an impact on him, and how it spoke poorly to his future witchering. Never mind the implications for his future more generally after the human’s inevitable -- likely untimely, what with traveling beside a witcher and all the danger that entailed, and Jaskier’s reckless nature besides -- demise. Absolutely not thinking about it.
With his swords resting against a wall and a moody sigh, Geralt fell onto the bed and closed his eyes. His mind thought that precise moment was a fantastic opportunity to serenade him with “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher,” because he obviously didn’t miss Jaskier. Not even a little.
After about the fifth round of the song concluded in his head, Geralt heard a commotion in the hallway outside the room. Feeling content and uninterested, he stayed put. Though, as fate would have it, the noise was coming toward the room. In fact, whoever it was seemed to have taken to repeatedly running into the door to his room. Well, that was enough of an excuse for him to get out of bed and perhaps make some random drunk shit himself. Just Geralt’s type of fun. Getting out of bed and putting  on his meanest witcher face, he opened the door, and found Jaskier — of course it was Jaskier — falling directly into his arms. Ideal, in some other scenario, but concerning or decidedly annoying in this one.
“Geralt! You will not believe it, I have just seen the most magnificent thing! I saw, prepare yourself, I saw a bouquet of penises!” Jaskier didn’t seem drunk, somehow off, but not drunk. He had managed to grab on to Geralt’s biceps and was staring into his eyes, deeply serious. “It was magnificent.” A brief pause. “Also, I suspect that I may be dying.”

I have been trying to figure out how to even describe my latest fic, for the benefit of all the broken hearts, of which I've now posted 3 chapters of (out of 19). Which I love and I'm proud of; it's is a weird technical flex as a writer and the most work I've put into any writing in any genre in my entire life. And also, I'm way out on my niche bullshit: it's a fix-it for another fic, and it's sort of but not exactly RPF, and maybe it's original fiction but not quite?
And I'm prevaricating, writing all this, being afraid of -- well, something, some kind of reaction -- and that's interesting, too, in the same way as discovering my weird reaction to the choose your own adventure project.
It is, per the actual summary on AO3: A fix-it sequel to Water Flowing Underground, following Ed’s unnamed second wife as she pokes through the wreckage and kicks down doors, and maybe finds the universe four doors down.
I have been working on it for almost seven months, pretty exclusively since mid-January (my ongoing apologies to readers of Hungry for love in particular). It has become the obsession that I could never have predicted, into which I have thrown a variety of thoughts about varieties of love and the aftermath of tragedy, creativity and femininity and identity, a set of matryoshka dolls on the theme of what it's possible to know about anyone else, famous or intimate (or oneself).
Also it's entirely set to the Carly Rae Jepsen album The Loneliest Time, which I have had on repeat for much of the last seven months. And yes, the lower case song lyric title is from the first song on that album. (And also yes, if you have seen me or various associates tag things as "carlita coded", this story is what we're talking about.)
I have to give so much love and appreciation to @emi--rose, who gave me so many wild ideas and so much encouragement, to @veeagainsttheday, who read a very early draft and then was an excellent beta, and to @gaypiratebrainrot, who wrote the original that melted my brain and then betaed this -- all of you have pushed me to be a better writer and a better thinker. Thanks as well to several other friends who have listened to me expound at length on this story and related subjects, it is greatly appreciated.

for the ask i just reblogged from you- 4, 6, 8, 11, 12, 13, 18, 22, 24, 27, 28, 31, 35, 36, 41
Ooo damn, lots of questions! My favorite
4. How do you choose which fics to write?
Honestly, whatever idea catches my fancy is what I want to write about. Or if I'm craving something that hasn't been written yet, then I'm like "well god damn it, looks like i have to do it myself"
6. What’s the last line you wrote?
He then reached up and cupped the back of his neck before he pulled him down into a kiss
8. Post an out-of-context spoiler from a wip.
“I didn't know anything about any gate code.  And besides, I couldn’t have killed Matthew.  I’m vegan.  I would never touch raw meat” one woman argued as she sat before Eric and Walter, Walter testing her hands for animal blood.  Eric hummed.
“Good to know” he grumbled as Walter shook his head.
“She is negative for animal blood” he declared.
11. Do you write scenes in order, or do you jump around?
I tend to write scenes in order, it's very rare that I jump around, unless a particular scene is screaming to be written first. Then I'll usually write it and put it to the side to be pasted in later
12. Do you outline your fics?  If yes, how detailed are your outlines?  How far do you stray from them?
Honestly, my outlines are just the fics in bullet form. Like I will write the dialogue, the scenes, and all the lovely stuff in bullet form and then go back and transform it into the actual fic. But that's only for oneshots. For multi-chaptered fics, I will have like...the general idea for what I want a chapter to be about, unless I'm doing a multi-chaptered fic inspired by a tv show or manga. Then the chapters just sort of flow how the show flows and the cuts and what not, if that makes sense.
13. Do you listen to music while you write?  If yes, what have you been listening to recently?
I do, sometimes. But sometimes the music that I listen to either throws off my groove or throws off the vibes I'm going for, so I'll turn it off. Or it distracts me. But, since I'm currently working on a mafia au, I'm listening to songs that have that sort of vibe, so like
or
(her songs really scream mafia vibes and honestly, love that for her and me)
18. Do you enjoy research?  Which fic of yours required the most research?
I do enjoy my research every now and then. The fic of mine that required the most I would have to say is my CSI: Jing City au, just because I have to know some of the testing that they're doing and how to break down what they're doing into layman's terms. Of course I understand what I'm writing about, but most normal people don't have a background in forensics, nor do they have degrees in them, so I gotta make it scientific enough to fit with the story but in layman's terms so that my readers aren't confused by the procedures and what not.
22. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process?  How do you come up with titles?
Oo, good question. I usually title my fics after the writing process, but sometimes a title will just come to be before hand. As for how I come up with titles, I usually use like a dialogue or a sentence from the fic itself. Sometimes the titles are inspired by song lyrics, or my fics are titled after the tv show or manga I'm taking inspiration from
24. How do you choose whose POV to write in?
I like third person past tense to read in, so that's what I write in. I'm not really a big first person writer/reader (like if I see it's in first person, I nope the fuck out) so I don't write a lot of fics in that pov. Sometimes third person present, but only for headcanons
27. What area of writing do you feel strongest in?
Dialogue, I guess? It just flows so easily and comes to me no problem, so...dialogue. And maybe understanding the characters? Like, not being ooc? If that's an area of writing idk
28. What area of writing do you want to improve in?
Action scenes maybe? Because my Killer and Healer rewrite has a lot of action scenes and while I can see them in my head, translating that into words fucking sucks ass
31. Do you use a beta reader/editor?
Not usually, only when I've stared at a fic for too god damn long and I'm starting to hate it. Then I'll ask @ahhhnorealnamesallowed to look it over for me. She's honestly the best when I need a new pair of eyes
35. What’s your favorite fic you’ve posted?
That's not fair, I love all of my fics that I've posted...I can't pick a favorite
36. What fic are you proudest of?
Oh, 恨君不似江楼月 | Killer and Healer 100%. Just the amount of time, energy, and love I've poured into this fic...this fic is my baby and I love her
41. Who’s your favorite character you’ve written?
Ah, I love writing about Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi. They're honestly a packaged deal at this point. I can't choose one over the other, they are packaged. Do no separate. They're both just so complex and they work well in any au that I throw at them so...they're great. I love them

I like to listen to your unhinged playlist while waiting for the chapter to set the mood. And sometimes I'm so baffled how accurate some lyrics are 😅
Bodybag by Chloe Moriondo
"Don't know if I hate you or if I wanna date you
Put you in a body bag instead of my bed
I don't wanna like you, I just wanna tie you up
Then keep you in a cage and watch you sleep for ages"
And
"Wanna kiss you on your cheeks but I also wanna punch your teeth"
I can see in my mind how Pete could feel so conflicted. Being so frustrated by Vegas to the point of thinking of being violent but on the other side he does want to tie Vegas up and keep him in bed. Sometimes wanting to kiss Vegas until he says something weird and now he wants to punch the teeth out.
But even though Pete is conflicted and gets really angry at Vegas all the time. He is also very possessive. I mean most people would expect Vegas being "keep you in cage" type. But Pete can be as possessive and obsessive over Vegas too. He just didn't let himself be like this yet. The most is hidden under all his survival instincts.
I love this type of dynamic between them. And I can't wait for Pete to become more possessive over Vegas. (And being feral about it is also my favorite)
I don't remember if I asked what song lyrics you chose for this chapter? 😁
Also I find it funny how after this song the next one is Use Me which is so filthy and could be interpreted as Vegas's answer to Pete's conflicting desires 😄 I love to imagine some kind of plot with these songs. It's such a fun addition to this pairing ❤️
ahh i love that you're listening to it!!! omg yeah some of the lyrics are like supes disturbing and SO them like it really does set the mood hahahahha
oh yes i totally agree pete does have a possessive streak that we've only really seen tiny hints of (and there will be more scenes later where pete makes it very clear to others who vegas belongs to lol he will not be sharing)
oh!!! i don't think you have but i am settling on obvious blase by the used for this one! its got a great mix of angst and hopefulness which is where i think vegas is sitting emotionally atm and feeling kind of bittersweet about his situation:
'Broken so completely, built me up in the same way
Devour me so sweetly, you prefer me sick this way, I’ll stay sick this way
Six feet in my guilt, Broken hinges on my casket
The way it has to end is always bittersweet, Take this, take this away from me"
oh i love that idea!!! tbh ive just chucked them in once im certain a song hits their vibe there's no particular order to them (besides the first few songs which are in order of each corresponding chapter title of the fic in case nobody noticed that haha)
but i love that youre making up side plot with the songs!! we love a song headcanon for sure!

HELLO!
I said I'd do this, so I'm following through. I have no more baby it's you for you this week, but I thought I'd talk a little about some of my sources/inspiration/post fic thoughts in case anyone was curious (and also because I'm knee deep in the post fic blues 🫠). All of that is under the cut:
Firstly, here are the two playlists I've made for the series:
for both sides now
and for baby it's you
I'm very drawn to songs/lyrics (if it was not already clear from these fic titles), but for baby it's you in particular I spent a lot of time listening to both big dramatic breakup songs AND yearning/reunion/wedding songs. Here are some of my favorite/most relevant lyrics:
Tumblr media
“Down on My Knees” - Bread (very BJ, to me)
Tumblr media
“Darling Be Home Soon” - The Lovin’ Spoonful (extremely beejhawk, to me)
Secondly, I love movies lol...
From chapter 1:
[BJ] had a daughter about to start college, a mostly renovated house in Maine that was starting to feel like his, a comfortable position at a city hospital, and a fiancé who loved him. (Hawk liked the word fiancé. He always drew it out when he said it, brandishing his ring finger like he was Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl and had some big rock on his hand instead of a simple gold band).
This performance is very Hawkeye to me. (The drama, the lounging, the jokes...finally got a guy to marry me!) Idk what else tell you besides I adore this movie.
Obligatory Judy Garland section...
From chapter 2:
“Yes. Coincidentally I’m also all nose and all eyes and all heart and all brain,” Hawkeye said. He drew his blanket tighter around himself and put his hands nearer to the stove.  “Are you going to lead me down the yellow brick road, darling?” Trapper said, smiling wide. Hawkeye shrugged. “If I could find it I would,” he said.
And more Wizard of Oz in chapter 7:
“You know that scene in The Wizard of Oz where the scarecrow’s been tied up on a post for so long that the second he’s cut loose and tries to walk he falls over?” Hawkeye said.  “Uh huh,” Trapper said.  “The OR is my corn field, so to speak,” Hawkeye said.
Transformative journey/quest to a city of bright lights & colors??? Where you discover home & belonging in the people around you??? Featuring beejhawk signature color red???
And one more (more Judy, different movie) from chapter 7:
“You mean St. Louis,” BJ said.  He’d seen it on a double date in college, just after New Year’s. He’d gotten a little teary eyed during the song at the end, and when Judy Garland’s sister, devastated by the prospect of moving, sobs, and wrecks all the snowmen in the yard. Judy chases her down to console her. We could be happy anywhere, as long as we’re together. That’s what she says. That’s the part that made him feel like crying. Leo teased him about it.
This is the scene he's talking about.
The other movie in chapter 7:
“I mean Las Vegas. Meet Me in Las Vegas. You took me to see it. I remember because we left Erin with Susan Meyers’ girl, Olivia? And she spilled soda all over my nice table cloth,” Peg said. “Oh,” BJ said, distracted. He sipped his drink. It was beer. He was taking it slow. He wasn’t going to do something stupid like get drunk and make a scene. They weren’t near the bar, but he couldn’t help but scan the crowds anyway, looking and listening for Hawk. “It’s about a rancher and a ballerina. The rancher is a gambler, but he doesn’t have any luck until he meets her. Every time they hold hands, he wins big,” Peg said.
This one is on YouTube! And there's lots of handholding!
Thirdly, books:
From chapter 9:
Hawkeye had friends everywhere, and a couple were up to date on the gay bar scene in Las Vegas. One of his old med school pals worked in a hospital out here and said that if they couldn’t make it to the big three Vegas gay spots, they’d better at least go to Le Café.
I am not much of a researcher, but I did refer to Out of the Neon Closet: Queer Community in the Silver State by Dennis McBride & the accompanying photo book LGBTQ Las Vegas for information about Vegas' gay bar scene. Here's more info about/photos of Le Café.
AND:
Erin, Benny, & Fern's summer escapades (and Benny's character in particular) were inspired in part by A Separate Peace (which I believe I've referenced in fic before?? Someday I'll stop, but today's not that day). Here are some Benny & Erin related lines:
From chapter 3:
The mother blinked at Benny. He was striking, Erin reasoned, when you first got a look at him: shock of red hair, perpetually windswept, splatter of freckles over his face and up his arms, emerald green eyes, thick, expressive eyebrows, lopsided nose, deep, rolling, voice that didn’t have any note of falsity. Benny was a senior counselor, which meant he was older, and in charge of the junior counselors. He was 20. All of the female junior counselors had crushes on him, according to Fern, who was surprised when Erin admitted that she thought Benny was plenty nice and smart, but he didn’t make her heart pound. The male junior counselors resented him, and the envious masses spread rumors.  One such rumor was that Benny was a homosexual.
And from A Separate Peace:
Tumblr media
From chapter 6:
She thought, floating on her back, that maybe this was one of those formative experiences everyone was always telling her about. Her teeth chattered, and Benny was laughing loudly from the shore, despite the fact that he’d been telling her that it was imperative that they keep quiet. Erin wondered if Hawkeye had ever had a summer like this, or Dad, or Mom, or Margaret: a summer where it felt like everyone was against you, and you couldn’t be bothered to care.
And from A Separate Peace, again:
Tumblr media
I think about this passage constantly 😀‼️
COOL! That's all I wanted to say. Thanks for reading. Peace, love, MASH, etc. <3

Hey,
So, I’m listening to your IBFIBG playlist (while reading the fic of course ❤️) and suddenly the song: Kick, by Greta Stanley begins to play and it made me wonder if you got the title for this fic from the lyrics?
This is the first time I listened to this song and I really like it, it brings a deeper feeling when I’m reading the way you write Slytherin Lily, and it’s like this song is a bridge that connects the emotions that Lily feels throughout her time at Hogwarts with the happiness that she will get at the end ( yes… that means I trust you even if you have no remorse with hurting Lily 🥹🥺🥹 ).
Also, the song: Something I Said, by The Sonder Bombs, blended well with chapter 4 (a few more chapters left until I finish reading it 😔 💔😒 ❤️‍🩹😭) for me it does a great job with emphasizing the impact of Lily and James’ estrangement during their time at school. James wondering where everything went wrong between them and not knowing if she’ll speak to him again 🥺.
The manner in which you bring so much emotion into this story is my absolute favorite part. I’m always on the edge of my seat, whenever I click “Next Chapter”. Basically what I want and need you to know is that your writing is a gift and that I appreciate all the effort that you’ve made into writing this fic (along with your others, especially the micros!)
I hope your having a great day/evening (also I hope you were safe while the hail was coming down in your city )
As always thank you for sharing your writing!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nena! 💕 You are the first person to come to me with the connection between the playlist and the title, and you are absolutely correct!
When I was trying to figure out a title for this fic (it existed in my drafts as "Twinkle Lights" forever—the song that inspired a lot of events in the fic) I definitely dove into the lyrics of the songs from the playlist since I felt that they matched the tone of the story so well. I agonized over it and actually made banners with a few other options before deciding on i'll be fine, i'll be good. I'm glad that the sliver of hope shines through even in the earlier years (and thank you for having faith that the ending won't be all doom and gloom!😉)
I love your take on Something I Said from James' POV! When building the playlist, I was very much doing it from Lily's mindset (and for this song in particular lining up with the end of 7th year and that kind of repetitive spiral of "I'll fuck up again") but it works so well for James because of all the reasons you've pointed out! And I love that it's an example of both of them kind of feeling that sense of worry and hopelessness in parallel with each other 🥲
Thank you so so so much for all your kind words, on here AND on ao3! I hope you know how much I appreciate YOU 💕. As for my night...hoping to bang out another jilytober prompt (🤞🏼...if I can stop outlining this regency fic). We were luckily spared any damage in the hailstorm, thank you!

🌤️Share your favorite piece of dialogue from your WIP.
Published or unpublished? Because have so much favorite dialogue from all of the published chapters. And not much to choose from for Ch. 8. So I guess I'll do one of each.
The first is from Chapter 5, where Erik has just played her an excerpt from his new composition and Christine is feeling quite inferior to him, as an artist. She says that she has no genius of her own. Which Erik is of course very offended by:
"You must never forget that skilled as I am, though I say it myself, I am not so powerful as to be able to imbue talent where there was none before. I am only able to foster what nature has already gifted you. Do you understand me? And please say that you do, Christine, for you must know—know—that it is not in my nature to lie about music to spare anyone's feelings; even yours."
And then I don't have much dialogue at all written for Ch. 8, but this kind of connects to the above incident:
"Father always said he wasn't really talented," she sobbed quietly. "He said he simply practiced well. When he would tell me of the Angel of Music, I asked if he'd ever heard the Angel, and he shook his head and told me that he'd never been so blessed."
And Erik connects this with the fact that Christine did the exact same thing earlier in the evening.
🌩️ Share something funny/cracky from your WIP.
OK its not terribly funny, per se. I've been forced to confront today that I just don't do a lot of comedy in my writing. Except perhaps for the passage in chapter 5 where Erik mentally calls Carlotta a "contemptible cow" and then considers making her "moo" instead the next time.
But this is a scrap I have written for a future chapter:
Only Meg Giry had made any effort in those first few months to befriend her, and that had been an exercise in understanding when Christine required her solitude. That must have been quite an effort for little Meg, curious and nosy as she was. More than once he'd had to hold closed some hatch or panel which Meg had sniffed out to prevent her from confirming her discovery. She was a chronic pebble in his shoe.
☔Is there a fic concept you have that you'd like to just explain and share because you're not sure you'll ever write it? If so, what is it?
Ah okay this is actually excellent. Yes.
So I've been reading Driven by the wonderful and lovely TryingNotToLoveYou, where each chapter is named after and accompanied by lyrics from a different Depeche Mode song. Now I LOVE Depeche Mode. Every fic (published or WIP) that I've ever thought of for poto has a title taken from a DM song. It's just such PotO music.
One song in particular has always stood out to me: A Question of Time, in which the narrator expresses his fear and concern for a young girl and how it won't be long before "They" (this can be interpreted to mean men specifically or society in general) start to take advantage of her. He says "I've got to get to you first, before they do". The song also contains the lyrics "I'll take you under my wing; somebody should" which of course brings to mind "The Angel of Music has her under his wing".
This song was released in 1985 and my idea is for a movie based 1985 AU where a young Christine is an aspiring singer who gets signed to Erik’s record label.
I would love to write this fic. The problem is, its more of a vibe, an atmosphere, than an actual story in my head. I don't think I could write a story for any time period after 1918 to be perfectly honest.
In some ways I feel like I have a better understanding of life-patterns older periods. And the 80's would be particularly tough for me because its kind of in the middle as far as history goes. Its not far enough back to feel like fantasy-land but just far enough back that I wasn't alive yet and I don't even have a firm enough grasp of life in the 90's to fall back on (I was born in 95). So even though I'm probably the most familiar with the 80's out of any period in the mid-20th century pop-culturally, I still feel unqualified. And as for plot? Beyond this starting point, I have no idea where I would even start. I can't imagine writing any kind of long-fic, especially a modern!AU one. When the Longing Returns is actually just a short fic that has been stretched out by my excessive wordiness 😅😂

Hello there, Acacia! I hope you're doing well. And since I saw you were doing it too, I thought to reach out and ask if you would be willing to answer questions 6, 20, and 25 for the fic writer ask game?
Thank you so much for the well wishes and for your ask, Erika! 💙 I appreciate it very much! 🥰
My answers got a little long so I've included them below the cut!
6. How do you find new fic to read? Where do you primarily read fanfiction?
I think it depends on the fandom since certain ones seem to have more fics on particular sites (which seems to correlate to how old the fandom is). Most of the time I will search by character or pairing and then rating (and/or tags as well if I'm on AO3 which I only started using more regularly earlier this year since there seems to be quite a bit more Black Clover fic on there than other places), and then I will go through these binges where I'll read whatever I can find (that is my cup of tea) about that particular character or pairing. Other times, I will really like a particular writer's work: their style and/or interpretation of the character(s) and will read through most of their writing on topics that interest or intrigue me. Additionally, I try to read and comment on something by each author who comments constructively on any of my fics when we write for the same fandom (or a fandom that I know), so I have found a lot of my favourite fics that I probably wouldn't have read otherwise that way. Now that I've started spending more time on Tumblr, I've definitely been reading more fic on here as well.
20. What’s your favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?
I definitely enjoy the brainstorming stage the most, I think. It's lots of fun to play with different ideas, and I really enjoy imagining what the characters would say or do if thrown into these different scenarios. When I have time, I try to walk through the scene in my mind before I write it, and depending on how it goes (often times there is some sort of breakdown that has to be reworked), I'll get to explore several different possibilities for the scene. I have lots of fun playing with that!
25. Do you listen to music as you write? If possible, link your writing playlist.
YES! All the time! I am so happy I got asked this question. Thank you so much! 🥰 Music is a huge inspiration for me usually (and a lot of my fic and/or fic chapter titles actually come from songs I listened to while I was working on the particular story).
Since I usually write shorter fics, I only listen to a handful of songs (sometimes only one) per story, but my multi-chapter fic ideas would definitely get their own playlist (I just haven't had the time for any big projects like that yet). I have playlists I've made for certain characters or groups (like the Black Bulls for instance) and these songs will often appear on those though [For instance, at least a third of my Langris Vaude playlist (linked here in case anyone is curious) is made up of songs I listened to while I was working on "Wine Therapy"]. Sometimes the inspiration is more about the vibe of the song or just one line or stanza rather than the whole thing though. I will listen to the song(s) on repeat during the brainstorming and outlining phase, but generally will turn the music off when I'm writing (unless it is classical/doesn't have words) so I don't get distracted and start writing song lyrics accidentally...😅
Since I don't have a playlist for any particular fic I've written yet, I've decided to link a couple of songs that inspired the titles for some of my fanfictions below instead:
"Pancakes for Dinner" by Lizzy McAlpine was the first song to inspire a title for one of my Black Clover fics and inspired my first ever Rillmy story (also featuring Charmy's friendships with Finral and Vanessa). Tumblr Link Here.
"Maybe My Soulmate Died" by: iamnotshane inspired a YamiChar soulmate tattoo AU written for YamiChar Week 2022. Tumblr link here.
"Broken Angel" by: Boyce Avenue inspired an Astelle role-reversal AU where Noelle is the one without magic for Astelle Week 2022. AO3 link here.
As an added bonus, Langris actually plays this piece in "Through a Rainy Window" (AO3 link here), and I listened to this song so much while working on that story that it actually made it in my Spotify wrapped for the year 😅
Thank you so much again for the ask! Cheers!! 💖

Yoinked from @incredizort !
ao3 wrapped [writers edition] because i can
(Sorry, the questions got all out of order while i was copying and pasting oops) also one of these answers is a fic that was initially posted in an earlier year then updated this year so...
How many words have you written this year?
Honestly its too hard to calculate cos of updated fics and i have dyscalculia and trying to keep track of numbers would kill me. It's like roughly 35k though
How many works did you publish this year?
Four, kinda. Oh god that's awful. Some have several chapters tho
What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
"Our animal impulses". Nearly 25k of nearly effortless writing for a brand new fandom that is a fanwork of another fic, and it was pretty well received!

"Our animal impulses". Sorry not sorry but that fic is fucking beautiful
Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
"Would you like it," Strade pants, seemingly ignoring the pointed jab and leaning closer to Lawrence's ear, "If I did that to you, hmmm? Took you apart? Plucked all your pretty petals one by one? He. Loves. Me… " He punctuates the three words with three particularly rough thrusts, "He loves me…not, " With that he stops moving entirely, not quite pulling all the way out but enough to make Lawrence whine at the loss of that feeling of fullness, of Strade's potent heat. Strade just grins down at him, curled hair sweat-stuck to his forehead somehow making him look even more menacing than usual. A wild work of art. Fauvism personified. "What would happen then, I wonder?" He says, tilting his head to the side, genuinely asking the question, innocent wide-eyed curiosity completely endearing even when threatening.
Lawrence tries to catch his breath, has no idea what the fuck Strade means, but knowing he wont like it if he's kept waiting for an answer. He opts for the truth. "I - I don't. I don't know what y - you mean?" He says, throat already hoarse and ragged.
That makes Strade chuckle. He runs his knuckles down the side of Lawrence's face with a gentleness that makes him feel sick. "I mean, Lawrence, mein blume, what would happen if your last petal said 'he loves me not'"?
The threat is obvious. The cadence and hitch of Strade's voice betrays how he feels more than his words ever could, and it sounds to Lawrence that Strade wants to open him up to find all his untouched nooks and crannies so he can defile them too. Leave no part of him untouched, unplucked.
But Lawrence is not an ordinary flower. He is no daisy with his face turned towards the sun that is Strade. He is no deceitful fine-petalled rose, waiting to be plucked and ruined by undeserving hands. He is the stench of rafflesia arnoldii. He will devour Strade whole. He is the leafless tendrils of cuscuta gronovii, snaking his way not just around Strade but inside him. Through him. Becoming part of him.
He is, after all, an oleander.
If Strade isn't careful, Lawrence can, and might, kill him.
What do you listen to while writing?
Whatever I'm listening to on tv, usually gilmore girls or 30 rock or community
Biggest surprise while writing this year?
Actually managing to write ANYTHING tbh

"This Love", and any and all questions you might want to answer about it! If it's all of them, I won't say no!! (*grabby hands*)
Well... I better start answering, now...
Thank you for asking, @purlturtle. You truly are a lovely human. I hope this sates some of the curiosity, makes sense and doesn't ruin anything...
What inspired you to write the fic this way? >> How does one interpret "this way"?... I'll take it as the timeline - starting with present day, then telling the story of the past year, and ending it 3 years after. The answer - because I'm a manipulative asshole *g*. I wanted the readers to get hooked on the steamy dynamic and keep reading, knowing full well the story is a different kettle of fish. So... Sorry? Not sorry?... (a beta reader suggested, btw, that I started differently, because the start of it felt voyeuristic. While I agree with the observation, I guess I liked that 0 to 100mph start...)
2: What scene did you first put down? >> I honestly don't remember... I started writing it aaages ago... but I suspect it was something smutty. I usually start with affection and smut with intent, then build around it.
3: What’s your favorite line of narration? >> "[...] there was at least one day every week that Helena was Myka's and Myka was Helena's, and there was nothing wrong about it at all. It was so absolutely, fucking *right*".
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue? >> "I applaud your courage, dear wife, for making a bid for a happiness I can only dream of."
5: What part was hardest to write? >> Chapter 12, when Myka tells Claudia (that's the scathing dialogue I was having with myself in my head, and it was hard to commit it to paper, knowing others will read it), and Chapter 18, when Myka and Helena negotiate (it forced me to think of a desired outcome, which I wasn't ready for).
6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics? >> In most fics I write, I'm conducting some kind of thought experiment to help me articulate something. This one... the experiment was very real, and very close to home.
7: Where did the title come from? >> I'm one of those saddos who titles fics with song titles and lyrics... This Love is a Rachel Sermanni song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x367iSdHpx8&list=OLAK5uy_mnNTkuyCcRz1rEYvnytG5h2j2he2QMplc&index=10
8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it? >> Yes. While being personal, it's not autobiographical. I've found myself in a situation not dissimilar to that of Myka's at the beginning of the story. The thought experiment was 'when reaching a stalemate in a committed, romantic relationship, what solutions were there, that are not the two extremes [e.g. end the relationship, or ignore my needs]. Was the experiment successful? Yes.
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic? >> No. And, compared to most of my fics, this has a relatively small "bin" as well. (The "bin" is a bit at the end of the word doc where I paste all the bits I cut out, because I'm a digital hoarder and I can't let go of things I've crafted, 'just in case'... ;) )
10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story? >> Because I'm a manipulative asshole (still) *g*... I wanted myself and the readers to root for the pairing, even though the setting is unusual and taboo, even.
11: What do you like best about this fic? >> The rawness of it, and also, (controversial, but...) the ending. (To all those who read and commented about the lack of "Hollywood Ending", I hear you. We may be cooking up something for you lot. :) )
12: What do you like least about this fic? >> There are choices I've made with words and scenes that I am more judgey of, these days. As a whole, even though I sound entirely full of myself, there's nothing big I dislike about it. It's not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination. I feel like I've done the best I could with it.
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading? >> Crikey... I can't recall the details... not only did I write it a long time ago, I spent a good two years writing it, and that usually means a lot of music... I think Rachel Sermanni was on my playlist a lot during that time.
Here's her first album, Under Mountains: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2dLRXR1zwI&list=OLAK5uy_nUd-1DklbMo5hgGc7YE_E0EhPql_vFKao
Here's her second: Tied to the Moon (This Love closes this one): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHE41yXwWxs&list=OLAK5uy_mnNTkuyCcRz1rEYvnytG5h2j2he2QMplc
14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic? >> Not something specific. I wanted to take readers on the journey I was going through, and come to their own conclusions (and, if they fancied, to share them). I was hoping we would ask ourselves what we assume about being in a romantic relationship, to ask ourselves about the connection between love and sex, about what happens when there is a lot of one but not enough of the other, and the different perspectives we have within and around us.
15: What did you learn from writing this fic? >> That there are many options in between breaking a relationship up and ignoring our individual needs. That depression is hard. That talking about sex, relationships, fidelity is hard, but - ultimately - worth it.
I hope this made sense.
I hope it didn't ruin anything for you.
I also want to thank all the folks who've read and commented (or read and didn't comment), who came on the journey and made something of it.
I'm not done with the experiment, by the way, so if any of you wish to continue talking through it - ping me (here, or on discord).
Thank you for reading. <3

Fanfiction Writing Asks
(Link to post)
Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike? - Most of my ideas come from daydreams.
Where do you get your fic ideas? - Songs, art, c.ai, talking with friends.
Do you share your fic ideas, or do you keep them to yourself? - I usually share them with someone. But If its super niche, I just keep quiet and write it lol.
How do you choose which fics to write? - What ever is sparking the most joy at the moment or what ever is easiest for my brain to produce.
How many wips do you have? - About 8 and countless other random ideas/inspos for fics. I What fandoms/pairings are they for? - HL | Garreth | Jackdaw | Seb | Omi |
What’s the last line you wrote? - "Garreth gasped out of a dead sleep, his eyes shot open as he cluched his chest, panting. He sat up in bed and tore the covers off. Pulling the string to his bedside lamp, he sighed in relief."
Post a snippet from a wip. -Does that count ^
Post an out-of-context spoiler from a wip. - He gets to start over again, anew.
Does this word [chosen by asker] appear in your current wip? NA
Do you work on multiple wips or stick to one fic at a time? -Usually just work on whatever is calling me that day, but I do hop around if I am just not feeling something that day.
Do you write scenes in order, or do you jump around? -I try my hardest to write it in order, but most of the time I do write snips of the fic here and there as I outline it just to get the scene out of my system.
Do you outline your fics?  If yes, how detailed are your outlines?  How far do you stray from them? -Yes, about 99% of the time. It's very rough and just random dialogue I want to use, locations, phrases ect. I do stray from it. Sometimes the ideas coming as I write are better than the outline. What's the fun in always coloring in the lines? :D
Do you listen to music while you write?  If yes, what have you been listening to recently? -Yesss. Usually music without lyrics. Lyrics distract me. What I'm currently listening to as we speak.
What is your favorite location and position to write in? -My couch, criss cross apple sauce with the laptop on my popup coffee table.
What’s your favorite time to write? -Anytime really. Fav time is when the inspo is just too strong to ignore!
Do you write by hand, on your phone, or on your laptop? -HAND!? Good lord, no lmfao. I do use my phone when I'm at work (or in bed) and my laptop when not at work.
Do you have a writing routine? -Get horny, then write smut.
Do you enjoy research?  Which fic of yours required the most research? -Fuck no lol. I also didn't grow up with HP and I can't be fucked to look up what an auror is or if vampires exist in the world. (I have read some of the books and watched all the moves many times over. Just didn't grow up picking apart every HC and what not. sad face)
Do you enjoy creating OCs or do you prefer to stick solely to canon characters? -I have OC's in my head. One in particular is Cole. I wrote him into one fic, but most people dont like/dont care about OCs. So, I just have him in my back pocket for now. I prefer cannon chars I guess. Or just use MC/reader insert.
Do you prefer writing AUs or canon fics? -Most of my fics are outside of the cannon-ish to fit my narrative. So... 50/50?
Do you prefer writing chaptered fics or one-shots? -ONESHOTS!
Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process?  How do you come up with titles? -Usually before, or while writing the summary. The 5% of the time I can't think of a title I use song lyrics as inspo. Boom, title done.
Is writing the beginning, middle, or end of the story easiest? Hardest? -I would say writing the beginning is the easiest. I just wish the damn thing would write it self. I wanna read it! lol
How do you choose whose POV to write in? -Depending on the story line. I usually write povs from the perspective of the MC/reader, but I do have a wip where its from Gars prospective. I just don't like writing from the guys prospective cuz it seems less immersive? idk.
What’s your favorite part of the writing process (worldbuilding, brainstorming/outlining, writing, editing, etc)? -I like the outlining process and the finished product lol
What’s your least favorite part of the writing process? -Coming up with reasons WHY they are at a location or WHY they are doing a task. I just want to write smut :(
What area of writing do you feel strongest in? -Uh, Hm.... Maybe making things short and sweet and easy to read. This is mostly so my short attention span can edit the fic. Otherwise, I cant be fucked to care if its super wordy.
What area of writing do you want to improve in? -Showing not telling. "He was angry" vs. "He stomped out of the room and slammed the door." I just need to work on it.
What’s something about your writing that you’re proud of? -That I've ever finished anything lol. And, that I stick to writing what I want and not writing to please others. Its good because this way I don't experience burnout like I did in other fandoms.
How much do you edit your fics?  Do you edit as you write or wait until you finish the first draft? -I try not to edit as I write. It slows down the process so much! Then I am left with something half-assed and half finished. I usually edit after i've written what I want and add more/take away from the fic as I see fit. I then run it through grammarly software and then put it into a text to speech generator to have the fic read to me outloud to catch any strange wordings or errors that way. Words nicely.
Do you use a beta reader/editor? -Nah. I dont really care to have anyone edit it for me. I'll do it myself and not bother anyone lol. If i have someone edit something, ill be sure to pay them for their time.
Do you take fic requests?  Why or why not? -Yeah! but, it will most likely come out as a drabble and I will only do things that 'spark joy' so to speak.
Is there a specific word count that you hold yourself to/enjoy writing the most? -Nah, I do like to keep it under 5k because its harder to edit the longer the fic gets and, like I said, I have a short attention span for editing.
How much of your personal life/experience do you include in your fics? -I guess a good amount? Helps to have done most of the stuff I write about so I can accurately describe it.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve posted? -Garr's anal fic.
What fic are you proudest of? - atm Jackdaw smut cuz it made a lot of ppl start to simp for him and everyone was super nice about it. So pure D:
What fic has been the hardest for you to write? -Continuing my Professor Garreth Series that I started this blog with. I just lost interest from some feedback I was getting about it being too short and yea...
What is your most self-indulgent posted story? -Jackdaw smut
What’s your most self-indulgent wip? -Gar is a shifter in it 👀
What is your favorite world that you’ve created for a fic? NA
Who’s your favorite character you’ve written? - Garreth
What’s your favorite title that you’ve come up with? "I Like Men On Their Knees~"
Is there a trope or idea that you’d really like to write but haven’t yet? -Dub con, Mommy Kink, pegging, pain kink
What is your favorite genre to write? - SMUT! Romance
What genre/trope do you tend to write the most? -Smut, romance.
If you could only write one type of AU for the rest of your life, what would it be? -Modern Au
Is there a trope that you’ve written before but are now sick of? -Kinda hate writing fluff tbh. I like reading fluff about Gar but I don't like coming up with the fluff on my own. I just want to be railed.
Who is your favorite character to write for?  Has this changed since you’ve started writing for that fandom? -Garreth, and nope. Still Gar lol
What fic of yours would you say is the best introduction to you as a writer? NA
How would you describe your writing style? -Short, sweet, easy to read? (hopefully. at least for me it is.)
Does what you like to write differ from what you like to read? -Uh, no actually. Well, I want to read more intense shit about gar but the fandom is still kinda new so that will come eventually. lol
What’s the average word count of your fics? -UHHH 3-6k?
What is the most-used tag on your ao3? Garreth Weasley x MC
What’s the fandom/pairing distribution of your posted fics? I read this Q like 4 times and I still have no idea what its asking.
Have you noticed any patterns in your fics?  Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc? -Yea... orgasms, she's always "flying" like stfu Ash 😂
Are there any fics that you would change or rewrite if given the chance? -Yes, but I don't have the attention span for that. You get what ya got.
How conscious are you about including symbolism or foreshadowing in your fics? -I do it sometimes! If I think of it while writing haha.
Do you have a favorite piece of figurative language you’ve written? NA
Have you participated in any fic events/writing challenges?  If yes, what were they and did you enjoy them? - Yes! I've hosted events in the past in other fandoms. I will do it again for this one eventually. I like them/they are exhausting. Lost of fun! can lead me to burn out if I'm not careful.
In [insert fic], what inspired the idea for the plot? NA In [insert fic], what’s your favorite scene that you wrote? NA In [insert fic], is there a deleted scene/idea you wish you could have included?  Why did it get cut? NA What was the hardest part of writing [insert fic]? NA If you rewrote [insert fic] now, would you change anything? NA If you wrote a sequel to [insert fic], what would happen in it? What’s a fun fact about [insert fic]? NA If a fic was titled [insert made up title], what would this story be about/how would you write it? NA
Are there any fics that influenced you to write the way you do? - Cuffmeinblack's writing and Blueraineshadows. I look up to both of them a lot. Their writing is so descriptive without being too wordy and its always fun to read!
What are your favorite fics at the moment? -I'm just happy anytime Garreth fics are posted tbh
Are you subscribed to any writers on AO3? -Yes! I try to sub to all my friends.
Do you spend more time reading or writing? - Writing. I get this weird readers-block??? I can only read things like one or two days a week and mayyyybe if something is super short, I'll give it a go. Otherwise, it goes into my TBR for when I have the capacity to read and comprehend.
What’s your favorite writing compliment you’ve gotten? -That the fic was 'hot' and that I caputred the intimate moment well! I was so happy to hear that. AND just all the comments of people liking my stuff I love yall sm.
What do you tend to get complimented on the most about your writing? -Just that they thought it was hot. Very nice of them.
Do you have a fic you wish got a bit more love? - Garreth fics. This fandom is mostly Seb and Omi stans. (Love seb and omi) but Garreth stuff gets ignored/overlooked a lot. NBD, I like writing and reading what gets put out.
Is there a particular fic that readers gravitated towards that you didn’t expect? -Jackdaw smut I REALLY thought people were going to ignore this one, but it blew up and I was so shocked.
How do you deal with writing pressure, whether internal or external? -I take time off from it.
Why do you enjoy writing fanfiction? -Its a great outlet! And I love creating content a lot. It's fun finding more like minded people to brainrot with.
What motivates you during the writing process? -....cock
Do you have any writing advice you want to share? -Use a program to read your fic to you out loud. like this one. It helps a lot to find errors, weird wording, and pacing issues. And, write what YOU want to write. Being popular is cool and all, but it sucks being popular and being unhappy|burnt out.
Free space - asker can come up with any writing or fic-related question they want!

Note
Get to know your fic writer asks! God there are SO many good questions in this one, forgive me for the large stack:
1, 4, 11, 19, 20, 26, 33, 35, 45, 51, 55, 69, 72, 77 [Catch and Release]
<3
oooooh my friend this is a FEAST of prompts you are sharing with me!! so excited to dive into this!!
(fair warning, this is... gonna be a long one)
<3
Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chaptered fics?
Multi-chaptered! Partially because I have too many ideas for my own good, but mainly because the context of a character's relationship feels very important to me and I find it hard to capture that properly in just a oneshot. Even the oneshots I have written, at least so far, all connect in some way to a larger established storyline instead of being truly standalone.
4. Where do you find inspiration for new ideas?
Reading (I do a lot of that), followed by periods of in-between where I can just let my brain marinate. For example, I just reread the first three Fablehaven books while on this band trip, and combined with entirely too much time spent staring out the window of a bus as we got from place to place, I already have an OC and a storyline cooked up for it.
If I need a smaller-dose burst of inspiration, like to get past the writer's block for a particular chapter, I'll go take my dogs for a nice long walk and let my mind wander for a bit.
11. Link your three favorite fics right now
This is admittedly a cop-out, but I have to skip this one for now. I haven't been at my computer in well over a week thanks to this trip, and most of the fics I've been reading lately have been from friends anyway (y'all are amazing writers and your fics were the first in my mind when I read this, but I want to stay neutral about this). Plus I've been up for over a full 24 hours at this point and I really don't have the energy for this question lol
19. What is the most-used tag on your ao3?
Fluff and Angst are tied, which is not a surprise in the slightest. I'm also not great at tagging stuff, so it all gets a little repetitive
20. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?
Music is definitely my biggest tie-in, it's everywhere. Fics/chapters titled after songs, music present in the fic, notable lyrics, you name it. Music is a huge part of my life, and it weaves into my writing almost everywhere I go.
Aside from that, I feel like there's a lot of queer and neurodivergency themes in my writing, for the same reason as the music: it's a big part of my life and my worldview, and that bleeds into my writing both intentionally and unintentionally.
Symbolism-wise, I think I work with mythology a lot, as well as themes of birds and flight.
26. Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?
Hm... that's a tough one. They're all pretty wild in their own way.
I'm inclined to say A Love Once New, just because that one's so long that a lot is contained within it, but it also follows a pretty standard X-Men type formula once you look past the length itself.
I think it's a tie between Smoke and Mirrors and Nom De Guerre, though. Those have some of my most dynamic characters, the most intense and unpredictable villains, a few good twists, and I don't rely on the plots of an established movie (Catch and Release is a good wild ride too, but a lot of that is just No Way Home itself coming into play). I think Desert Song will be pretty wild too, but we're too early into that one for me to reveal my secrets just yet ;)
33. Do you want to be published some day?
Yes! I actually started writing fanfic as a way to hone my skills in writing, with the eventual goal of having something published. I don't intend for writing to be my primary career, but there are definitely a couple ideas that I want to get out there, and I want to write them my way.
35. What is one essential thing to remember when writing a villain?
Show their humanity. Give the audience something to relate to. Show the audience a character of unfathomable darkness and they can't relate, at best you just spark a mild intrigue in the angst. But maybe that character does it all to save their younger sister - and you've struck empathy with every older sibling reading. Maybe that character has a favorite pastime, a childhood hobby, a pet, a personal quirk - and you've reached everyone in the audience who has that same quirk.
And once you've tapped into those points of connection, that's when you can play with something deeper than intrigue. It doesn't matter how much magic or power you give your supervillains; if the audience could encounter the same person, or better yet, become the same person through some twist of fate, that's a good villain.
45. Do you want to break your readers‘ heart or make them laugh?
Both. Sometimes at the same time (or at least I try).
51. What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,087,068. I write a lot...
55. Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones?
Ooh, tough one. I think of the canon characters, the Corinthian is my favorite to write. I love writing characters who are charming, and he fits that down to a tee. Plus, it's fun to explore his sense of morality (or lack thereof), since most of the other characters I write for trend towards the morally good. Billy/Four is a lot of fun too, namely in Desert Song - I can't quite articulate why, he's just a lot of fun to write.
Of my OCs, that's a little tougher. There's something unique that I love to write for each of them: Quinn's allegories on gender and disability, Jasper's empathic sense, Rae's bordering-on-foolhardy sense of justice, Katherine's link to mythology, I could keep going. That's partly how I keep myself motivated, really - I explore something new and different with each of them, and it's hard to choose one favorite.
I will say, though, writing Ophelia is a lot of fun. A lot of my characters are fairly spunky, since I like a good strong character to command the narrative, but Ophelia has something unique that makes her spunk a little different from the others. She genuinely doesn't care how she's perceived by others, and it results in some very fun, very daring interactions.
69. What work of yours, if any, are you the most embarrassed about existing?
I mean... Behind the Scenes. AKA, the first fic I ever wrote and posted. I thought it was rough even then, which is why it went abandoned at 7 chapters, but I'm even more embarrassed about it now that I've grown as a writer. I don't look back at it often, but whenever I do, I'm just reminded of how wholeheartedly rough it is compared to what I write now. I really should delete it or orphan it or something, but I don't want to get rid of it until I've started a rewrite for it. Which might mean I never get rid of it. But embarrassing or not, I don't just want it to be gone - it's not my job to determine peoples' personal preferences, what if there's someone who actually likes it?
Don't read it. But it's there for the people who have read it, just in case.
72. What order do you write in? front of book to back? chronological? favorite scenes first? something else?
Front to back, because I don't write the full thing before I post (I write it by-chapter and rotate my updates). Also, if I wrote my favorite scenes first, I'd probably end up with about as much writing as I have now... but it would go absolutely nowhere. Writing the gradual build, while it does get tedious at times, definitely helps me pull together a clean and unified final product.
77. Do you have a favorite scene you’ve written from [Catch and Release] story/chapter?
I was really happy with some of the flashback sequences. Originally there were only supposed to be a few, to help guide Ophelia into her place in the story, but they went over really well and I just kept having ideas, so I kept it going.
I think my favorite is the one in Chapter 10, where Harry meets Olly under the bleachers shortly after her parents died. I feel like it really showed a lot of both Harry and Olly's character, and the darkness that had begun to spread in them even as they tried to offer each other support. There also was a good bit of foreshadowing of Harry as the New Goblin in that chapter, which I put a lot of thought into.

welcome to the mad scientist lab of yours truly, annie!! this is only a small portion of all the brainrot i have on my mind 24/7, and i only picked out the stuff that i was more or less sure that I’d write something for later on. please do keep in mind that all of these WIPs are subject to change!
KEY GUIDE: 'uploading files' means stuff I'm currently working on actively. 'on hold' refers to the stuff that I wrote on a whim and then put aside to focus on other fics. 'queued files' is for the stories that are mapped out but have yet to be written.

UPLOADING FILES . . .

lay all your love on me. [ kaeya x reader ]
multichaptered fic, top priority! inspired by the song ‘lay all your love on me’ by ABBA. fluff, comedy, and a little bit of angsty pining probably, knowing me— i won’t spoil too much, but just read the song lyrics heheheHEHE
look into my eyes (for the rest of our lifetimes) [ ningguang x reader ]
one-shot, high priority. childhood friends-to-lovers, fluffy reunion fic (title is subject to change). i started writing this after playing through her hangout!!! she has a softer side to her that is sadly underrepresented, so i hope to explore that particular aspect of her character in this fic. WE’LL HAVE TO SEE IF I CAN PULL IT OFF THO LOLOL
give me your wishlist [ childe x reader ]
it’s childe, of course it’s high priority!!!! one-shot, fluff and a little bit of comedy, and inspired by the song wishlist by txt. this was a self-indulgent fic i started for my bday last year and then got immediately swamped with thesis work right after. I STILL AM GONNA FINISH THIS THO, FIGHT ME THESIS
3/4ths time signature [ atsushi nakajima x reader ]
one-shot, medium priority. sappy domestic fluff inspired by the song only by lee hi, another self-indulgent fic for me bc i was sTReeEEEEeesseDDD. i work on this when I’m brain-drained for ideas on the other three fics. title is also subject to change.
Tumblr media
ON HOLD . . .
Tumblr media
untitled [ thoma x reader ]
one-shot, low priority. friends-to-lovers fluff (probably???? i don’t remember lololol). a random draft that i wrote at some ungodly hour in the morning and then forgot about. it’s pretty decent though so i might finish it…..????
pull my heart-strings, won’t you? (it’s not like it can hurt me anyway) [ scaramouche x reader ]
tentative multi-chaptered fic (if i pull a tellerluna-stories here and make it too long again), medium priority. modern AU, fake dating trope with a forest of pining and a field of fluff to go with it. tbh now that I’ve seen our beloved summer i lowkey have ideas for this,,,,,, HMMMMM
the clear moon [ atsushi nakajima x reader ]
one-shot, low priority. just some hurt/comfort stuff that i wrote at 4 in the morning and never finished. if i put these drafts in this list, it means i will probably finish them eventually!!!
a soul forged of steel [ childe x reader ]
tentative multi-chaptered fic, medium priority. a self-indulgent android AU, because my detroit become human phase will not stay in its grave. title is subject to change; frankly, I’m unsure if i want to make this into a bigger AU that isn’t reader-insert so i can explore the concept of a cybernetic version of Teyvat with more freedom. until i decide, this draft is just gonna sit there and look pretty <33

QUEUED FILES . . .
Tumblr media
The Eldritch Abomination From the Cold Depths of the Abyss is Surprisingly Warm Towards Me?! [ enjou x reader ]
most likely a one-shot (this is if i avoid pulling a tellerluna-stories), high priority. comedy, fluff and chaos. plot has more or less already been fully mapped out and it’s only a matter of writing it; tbh i feel like my soul is leaving my body after admitting that I’m writing this,,,, also yes, that is the actual title. kudos to my beta reader who came up with it :DDDD
sweeter than a love potion. [ diluc x reader ]
probably gonna be a multi-chaptered fic, low to medium priority. fluff, comedy, and found family to boot, starring diona, reader, and diluc. only half of the plot has been mapped out so far, as i still need to do research on some things before getting into it lol. the diluc kisser in me is coming out and i don’t want to admit it HAHAHAHA

For the fic ask thing (I couldn't pick one sorry 😅)
We are survivors, the ones left behind: 1,2,7
Valerie: 10 (or I guess, what made you want to write them),
Come in, she said, I'll give you shelter from the storm: 1,9,11
sorry if this was too many
It's not too many don't worry!
We are survivors, the ones left behind
1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?
I wanted something bittersweet, that didn't pretend like their pain wasn't there, but showed how they coped with it, how that pain brought them together, strengthened their bond
Also I tried to focus more on one of them for each chapter: chapter 1 Chloe, chapter 2 Tony, chapter 3 Jack
2: What scene did you first put down?
I was at work when the idea came to me, and I just wrote the first line, Three people got out of the camper van. It was that scene the first that I envisioned, them with the wind against them and in front of a motel, Jack and Tony wearing sunglasses for some reason and Chloe watching them and seeing how by having lived on the run for a long while they seemed to have become so similar.
7: Where did the title come from?
The title is from The Darkness' Last of our kind, whose lyrics really felt fitting for Jack Tony and Chloe, the survivors of CTU, left behind by all the people they cared for that have died
Many lines from that song reflected that sentiment
I am honoured to have served alongside men who inspire defiance/Sometimes I tire of the fighting and the killing
We are survivors/The ones left behind/Defenders of the legacy/The last of our kind
Once there were others like us/Then there were none
Late at night while the world is sleeping I can hear the call of my kin/They wait for me and when I join them we will be forgotten
Valerie
10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
I just knew I really wanted a fic with wlw Nina, and for some reason as I considered who could be a good woman to ship her with Michelle just sounded great, I could envision them in this domestic setting away from anything remotely canon
Come in, she said, I'll give you shelter from the storm
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
Yes! This fic was born as a Jack x Nina (when I was rewatching the interrogation in day 2), with Jack and George tracking her down only for Jack to reveal they'd been partners in crime the whole time, and with like Jack doing this interrogation and it's like foreplay for them because they know they're not really in danger
1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?
Once I was rewatching day 3 and saw the scene where Tony tries to interrogate Nina and Michelle is watching from behind the one way mirror I knew I wanted to turn the fic into a Tony x Nina, and then it changed into what it is now. A complicated situation where Nina is suddenly again with two people she has loved in different moments of her life, trying to figure out what to do, how to choose between them.
Then there's the parallel of Tony killing Mason like Nina had killed Teri, something I'm very proud of, it came together better than I had hoped for
11: What do you like best about this fic?
Uuh, difficult question.
What I like the most is the dynamic between them, as I said, the indecisiveness, how Nina clearly still loves them both but doesn't know which one she wants the most.
The devotion of both Tony and Michelle to her, how they have already proven they do anything for her, and they do mean anything
I like how different the love she has for them is, how that doesn't mean she loves one more than the other, just in a different way, because they were in such different circumstances when they met.
She still knows Tony, not too much time has passed, but she needs to prove to him that he wasn't just a pawn for her.
She's not sure she still knows Michelle, because even though there's that same sparkle in her eyes, that fiery passion that Nina knows well and has been at the receiving end of so many times, that was years ago. Nina has changed and Michelle has changed too, but they're both determined to make the best out of this second chance they got

Are 'All You Want' chapters mostly based on Shawn Mendes lyrics?? Or is that a happy coincidence?? I'm re-reading for the millionth time and just noticed
Yes! All the chapter titles are lyrics from the songs I listened to while writkng that particular chapter. The vast majority of the them were Shawn Mendes songs, but there’s some Christina Perri, Bastille, a couple musicals. But mostly, by vast majority it was Shawn Mendes.
I meant to make a playlist, but I’m the laziest person ever, so I never finished making it.

(about the whole fic writer asks, except those answered now) the story specific ones have to be about 'but if you really hold me tight' - I love all your cxg fics and it's the longest one :D) it's just I'm thinking of getting back to writing and since you're of my favorites authors out there now i'd love to get some insight. kudos for being cool about it!
Hello!  Okay first of all thank you so much, that is a ridiculously big compliment and my face hurts.  And yes yes yes you should definitely write if you feel like writing - just go for it!  If you have any specific questions or you want a pep talk or whatever, message any time :)
Okay I’m gonna put these under a Read More because wall of text.
2) What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one?Right now only Crazy Ex Girlfriend.  I wrote for Criminal Minds under a different name then had a gap of several years.  I’m pretty far removed from CM now but I can safely say writing for CXG has been a nicer experience community wise (partly a smaller fandom thing and I suspect partly a demographic thing), and there’s more established character stuff to work with because all the character development isn’t like…  Crammed in the five minutes they have to work with either side of the crime solving.
3) Do you prefer writing OC’s or reader inserts? Explain your answer.I don’t really do either, but reader inserts are kind of a squick of mine honestly, so I’m gonna say OCs.  I’ve only written OC kids though.
4) What is your favourite genre to write for?I am not entirely sure what this means…  Fic genre?  Original media genre?  I have only ever written romance or friendship stuff for TV shows, an odd balance of fluff and angst?
5) If you had to choose a favourite out of all of your multi chaptered stories, which would it be and why?Mmm let the sun inside has a special place in my heart because it was the thing that got me back into writing after a really long gap and turned out pretty much how I wanted it to.  Writing it was just a very intense ‘I am writing again and my brain is on fire’ experience for me.
7) When is your preferred time to write?I would love to have a less dysfunctional answer to this, but probably between 1 and 4am unfortunately?  That can’t be a thing on work nights because I get up at 6.30.  If I can get myself on a roll early afternoon in a coffee shop though, that’s a better feeling.  Just… Less common than ‘the rest of the world around me is asleep and my brain just woke up’.
8) Where do you take your inspiration from?Oh everywhere.  The media I write fic about.  The stories I read.  My life, my friends.  The world.
9) In but if you really hold me tight, what’s your favourite scene that you wrote?Oh god I really don’t know.  This story is really hard for me to have perspective on because of the ridiculously time pressured way I wrote and published it.  I’m probably proudest of chapter 12, where they discuss the ‘do we want a baby’ question properly, because that just…  Is an important conversation that you don’t really see in media?  I’m not sure it’s the best writing in the story, but I’m glad I didn’t chicken out of it.  I also enjoyed writing Rebecca meeting Plimpton Senior in chapter 19, because that feels like an opportunity the show missed and I will never see enough versions of it in fic honestly.  (Do you have a favourite?)
10) In but if you really hold me tight, why did you decide to end it like that? Did you have an alternative ending in mind? That one was pretty much always going to end where it did – just because of the format, it was always going to end in a fluffy happy place around midnight on the 1st of January 2021. The last chapter was going to be longer originally, with more characters getting a moment, but it was just getting kind of unfocused – Rebecca POV can handle tone shifts pretty well I think because of the way her brain is wired, but at some point it all just got a bit messy so I pared it back.  I think I’m pleased with how it turned out, but the chaos of writing it is still fresh enough that it’s hard to tell!
11) Have you ever amended a story due to criticisms you’ve received after posting it?Nah, but I’ve fixed typos (thank you @what-the-elle-n!)
13) Who is your least favourite character to write for? Why?I find Valencia and Paula pretty difficult.  I love them, but I struggle.
14) How did you come up with the title - You can ask about multiple stories.(Since it says multiple and since I only have 3 currently…)  Everything I’ve published for CXG so far has had song lyric titles – mostly because I am not good at poetic turns of phrase, and I like lyricists who are.  (I’m also not a particularly romantic person, and I like lyricists who are!)
let the sun inside is from Ribcage by elbow.  The full line is ‘I wanted to explode – to pull my ribs apart and let the sun inside’, which feels to me like that feeling of having bottled everything up for so long that you just can’t feel anything anymore until you kind of break down and come out the other side?  And Rebecca = sunshine, so.  That is basically the premise of the story, so that was a stroke of luck.
the landing light is from K2 by elbow (I swear I listen to other music, they just have words that really lend themselves to fanfic titles lol).  I have a whole meta thing written to publish alongside the last chapter about why this song for this story, but basically the line is ‘Dickhead’s done a runner and he’s wondering if anyone cares – is the landing light on?’ which is just someone far from home feeling a bit stupid and homesick and wondering if there’s anybody waiting at home for him.  And of course Nathaniel comes home to a totally miserable situation and there Rebecca is.
but if you really hold me tight…  It had to be a lyric from a Christmas song, preferably one Frank Sinatra sang at some point, because that was the playlist I started listening to in mid-October while outlining this madness.  So it’s from Let It Snow, obviously, although that exact line is not in that version, ssshhhhhh (he sings ‘but if you’ll only hold me tight’).  I chose it because R&N being a team and getting through stuff together in a mostly-fluff-but-not-entirely way was kind of what I was aiming for, and it just felt like it fit.
15) If you write OC’s, how do you decide on their names?I kind of have an OC coming up in a story I’m writing now, and I just… Knew who named them, and tried to choose a name those people would choose.  I don’t really do OCs much in fic, but in not-fic (it’s been a while!) I try to go for a name that (1) means something, and importantly (2) I can imagine their parents having named them.
16) How did you come up with the idea for but if you really hold me tight? So a writer I used to read a lot from the Criminal Minds fandom did a Christmas fic a couple of years in a row – one short, mostly fluffy chapter for each day from the 1st-25th of December.  So that was the plan.  Except as soon as I started outlining it, I knew I couldn’t write an entire month fluffy and problem-free for these two (for anyone, but especially these two), so short and fluffy didn’t stick!
17) Post a line from a WIP that you’re working on.“I’ve gotten better at a lot of things since you’ve been away, but my self-deception skills have taken a real hit.”
18) Do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?Yeah, I abandoned a few Criminal Minds fics.  I still feel bad about them actually – I get comments on them occasionally. (On the offchance anyone reading this is someone who feels nervous about commenting on old stories – these delight me in ways you cannot imagine.)  I ran out of steam in a lot of ways – I started them without any real idea where I was going and wrote myself into a corner, mostly, but also I was starting to really struggle to write unprompted.  I am not the most mentally well person, and I just got my brain into this spirally tangle where I thought nobody wanted to read anything they hadn’t asked for, so I filled a lot of prompts but couldn’t convince myself to write anything else.  It feels really weird to think about that now, which I guess is a good sign…
19) Are there any stories that you’ve written that you’d really love to do a sequel to?I toy with following the emotional arc of S4 but following let the sun inside sometimes – that was the plan, when I originally finished it and was panicking that I would never get another idea.  Also, but if you really hold me tight created a world of warm domesticity for R&N that I felt really sad leaving behind, so I would probably like to write in the timeline again.  And the landing light might get a oneshot sequel, depending on whether I end it the way I think I’m going to or the way I was originally planning to…
20) Are there any stories that you wished you’d ended differently? No, not in this fandom.  I’ve only written two endings though!  I’ve ended on some real cheeseball final lines in the past though.
21) Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?@heartbash, who can do plot and slow-burn in a way my impatient ass will never be capable of.  @justwanted2dance who deserves a million flame emojis and writes BDSM stuff in a way that makes my anxious brain comfy enough to enjoy it (literally nobody else has achieved this).  @pictureofsoph1sticatedgrace who writes the loveliest fluff and is a badass individual.  @notbang and @anthropologicalhands and @catty-words and @akisazame and @romansuzume who write beautifully and can do those poetic turns of phrase I am not good at.  I’ve got to be forgetting someone but wowww there is so much talent and creativity in this lil room.  So many people to be inspired by.
22) Do you have a story that you look back on and cringe when you reread it?God yes, but not in this fandom.  It’s fine, 19 or 20 year old me, you were learning.
23) Do you prefer listening to music when you’re writing or do you need silence?Silence.  Or like white noise or the Hufflepuff Common Room 10 hour ASMR video on youtube or something lol.  Anything with words just ruins me – my attention span is laughable.
25) Have you ever cried whilst writing a story?Ha yes actually, but I’m really not entirely sure why.  Sometimes my brain is just a really weird place to be.
26) Which part of but if you really hold me tight was the hardest to write? It depends how you measure hardest, I guess.  Several of the smut scenes just said ‘[insert sex]’ for the longest time, sometimes with descriptions?  So like ‘[insert feelingsy sex]’ or whatever lol.  In terms of getting voices right (like to the point of still being unsure whether it’s any good), this gurl group chapter.
27) Do you make a general outline for your stories or do you just go with the flow?It really depends.  Usually I know roughly where I’m going and how I’m getting there and that’s good enough for me, but my NaNo fic got an outline because of the format and timescale. And I’m planning a thing with an actual plot arc (gasp!) so that’s getting an outline, in the hope of making it look vaguely romance novel shaped.  Basically it depends on the length of the thing for me, and how plotty it is.
28) What is something you wished you’d known before you started posting fanfiction?Writing advice: if you’re struggling to move past a particular point, the thing you need to change is probably a few lines back.  It’s rarely the last line that painted you into the corner. If you think something needs to come out, paste it into an outtakes document – you might want to put it somewhere else later, or salvage lines from it or whatever, and it’s just easier to let go if you’re not actually hitting delete.
Posting advice: remember fandom is community – everyone is here because they love the thing you love.  They’re gonna be excited there’s a new story to read, and they’re rooting for you!  (Write the thing!)
29) Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?Nahh I mean, it’s a smaallll fandom.
30) In contrast to 29 is there a story which gets lots of love which you kinda eye roll at?Again, smaaalll.  (Also I try not to publicly eye roll at things other people love even if they are my things – there’s nothing quite like loving a song just for the band to be like ‘ugh I fucking hate that song’, so I always try to keep that in mind.)
31) Send me a fic recommendation and I’ll post it for my followers to see! (The asker is to send the rec not the answerer)You did not send me a rec!  Feel free to send me one now!  In fact, open call, everyone send me fic recs, even if I’ve definitely read them.
32) Are any of your characters based on real people?Mm no I don’t do OCs.
33) What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?I mean, I enjoyed hearing that someone read my story in the corner at a party lol, especially because it was a chapter I was pretty pleased with and nervous about.  Also any time anybody says something I wrote is a headcanon or ‘this should have happened in the show’ is a glittery feeling. When somebody notices a little clue or detail that isn’t obvious, it makes me ridiculously happy.  Humans reading my thing then saying something about it is still crazy, so, yeah.
34) What’s the harshest criticism you’ve gotten?Story time: my old fandom has this one character who has a lot of pretty hardcore stans.  I mostly dislike the word stan but like…  Yeah.  So anyway, I got an email saying I had a new comment on my ficlet collection (keeping in mind I was in my ‘very unhealthy relationship with feedback’ stage at this point), and clicked on it all happy, and all it said was ‘I didn’t read this because another comment said it doesn’t contain enough *stanned character* and you really should warn people upfront that he isn’t gonna be in it, I’m glad I didn’t waste my time on it’.  Which was just…  A bizarre comment.  Like, commenting to say you didn’t read the thing is weird in itself, but also you list the characters who are in the thing, not all the ones who aren’t?? Anyway, I then went on my tumblr and I had several anon messages that were just straight up hate along the same lines and…  Yeah.  The Criminal Minds fandom was a strange place. On a related note, have I told you today that I love you, CXG people?  I love you.
35) Do you share your story ideas with anyone else or do you keep them close to your chest?I am basically always up with talking stuff through with people.
36) Can you give us a spoiler for one of your WIP’s?This is actually difficult to do right now.  There’s a baby?
37) What’s the funniest story you’ve written?I mean, I made myself laugh a couple of times in my festive fic, but I’m more of a ‘this one line is funny’ writer than a ‘this story is funny’ writer.  I’m too angsty!
38) If you could collab with any other writer on here, who would it be? (Perhaps this question will inspire some collabs!) If you’re shy, don’t tag the blog, just name it.This question is faaar too terrifying.  I’ve actually never collabed with anyone, I’d love to though.
39) Do you prefer first, second or third person?Third.  I think because I’ve only written for TV shows, no matter how closely you’re following one character, if you’re seeing them on a screen, you’re in third person.  So it’s just an extra struggle to make that jump to another POV for me.  I have written my not-fanfic mostly in first though, and I’ve read some lovely fic in first and second.  I’m just not good at it.
40) Do people know you write fanfiction? One person.
41) What’s your favourite minor character you’ve written?Hmmmm who is minor, really?  I find AJ difficult but fun.
43) Has anyone ever guessed the plot twist of one of your fics before you posted it?I don’t write anything plotty enough for this to be a thing!
44) What is the last line you wrote?“Mm, because you know how irresistible your weird old timey voices are.”
45) What spurs you on during the writing process?I want people to read the thing, honestly.  It’s a ‘reach out my lonely haaand’ moment with a little less melodrama.  I want it to be out in the world doing what it’s meant to do.  I also want it to be finished so I can read it – I get a very particular kind of happy feeling from reading a good sentence I wrote.
46) I really loved but if you really hold me tight. If you were ever to do a sequel, what do you think might happen in it?Lol it felt really weird to type that in there when you didn’t actually say it directly, but you said all so here we are!  I’m just gonna take that compliment even though I wrote it…  When I started coming to the end of writing that story, I started to feel really sad about leaving behind the warm domestic feel of it, so if I ever feel more domestic fluff coming on, probably it’ll be set after that.
47) Here’s a fic title - insert a made up title. What would this story be about? You did not insert a made up title!  Although insert a made up title has potential for Rebecca hounding everyone she knows to help her title a song she wrote.
48) What’s your favourite trope to write? Is ‘let’s have an actual conversation about this’ a trope because that’s my brand so far!  I haven’t written anything particularly tropey, I don’t think, although the pull of ‘omg there was only one bed’ is strong right now!
49) Can you remember the first fic you read? What was it about?Yes!  It was a Criminal Minds fic, Hotch/Prentiss, canon compliant (ish) missing scenes kind of deal.  I can’t remember the first CXG fic I read, which is ridiculous because it was a lot more recent.  I started writing CXG fic before I started looking for it, because I hadn’t been inspired to write in so long that I didn’t want to scare myself away.  I read some before publishing, but I can’t remember where I started.
50) If you could write only angst, fluff or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why?I can only dream of being mentally stable enough to have a consistent answer to this lol.  Angst comes more naturally to me, but writing angsty characters into happy situations is one of the ways I make sense of the world, so…  Fluff, maybe, as long as I can keep the characters screwed up, because they just…  Are.  And like, same.
