Because it's coming up soon, I wanna make another post about MatPat and his retirement.
I've seen some people calling this man a terrible person, a bigot, etc. While I might be wearing rose-tinted glasses, I also would like to think that if you take a look at him now, his recent content, et cetera (see his GT Live videos and such) that he is a man who genuinely tries to improve on his flaws and shortcomings.
Has he made problematic stuff in the past? Yes, that's a fact. Had he tried to better himself since then? YES. I understand that he's made comments and said/implied things that have hurt other people accidentally or no, but he has since made an effort to ensure all of his research and such is better and his content does not demonize others.
The man would not have lasted as long as he has on YouTube if he was either a) that controversial and terrible of a person or b) his content was not that good. And considering that I haven't seen nearly any big drama review videos or the like on the man, I think it's safe to say he's not the big bad bigot people claim he is. You can dislike him all you want, people, but I've seen people sending him death threats??? What the fuck is wrong with you? You don't do that to ANYONE. Period.
Call me a dickrider or whatever. I know this man is flawed, but everyone is. The difference is that he has improved and continually improved upon his flaws. He has hosted charity events, he's tried to make sure his content is well-researched as opposed to his older stuff, he's openly admitted that HE DOES NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING HE PUTS OUT. The man just wants to have fun.
I made this post because I wanted to make a tribute art for him and I was scared to out of fear that I'd get harassed for saying/making anything positive regarding him. But fuck that.
Thank you, MatPat, for the fun you've put into people's childhoods. The delighted rage you've made people feel over spouting nonsense about robot bears. And the love you've poured out for the people who have made a community around you.
Retire well.

thanks, Matt
matpat means.... a lot to me, to say the least. I was raised in a single parent household and l haven't really considered myself to have a dad for a long time. while yes, I do technically have a dad, that's only really in the context of genetics. and my daddy issues but that's not important.
what is important is that matpat was my father, in a way. he was dubbed the title of "internet dad" long after he had already been one to me. he's part of the reason that I am the person I am today.
this piece exists because of matpat, for many reasons.
one, because I sobbed watching "goodbye internet" and want to do something special for his retirement.
two, because fnaf is the entire reason that I create what I do today, and that is partially heavily credited to matpat for overanalyzing a game about murderous animatronics in a pizzeria that I was obsessed with the moment I found out about it. 7 year old me was hooked, man.
and then I think through that, I found even more creators, which led to even more hyperfixating on weird nerdy shit, which led to me making more and more art.
and now, here I am. I'll be 17 years old in April. I graduate high school in one year.
I'm growing up.
not that I haven't been for my whole life because, well, that's how that works.
but I am nearing the true "end" of my childhood.
this year is fnaf's ten year anniversary.
this year marks a decade with game theory.
this year marks the beginning of the end.
I look back on my childhood. I went back to make one quick edit of my incredibly old Instagram account that I had way before I should've even had it.
I look back on the friends I had. I look back on all of the early-mid 2010s shit I posted and I smile. because it's cringe. it's cringe as hell and it's beautiful because of that.
and the nonsense theories are beautiful, and every single theory is beautiful because it exists. because it stems from the need to learn and think and have fun.
because that's what theorizing is about, in the end.
having fun.
matpat means a lot to me.
matpat is the reason that I am the person typing out this post. matpat is the reason that I am the person who spent 6 hours and 45 minutes drawing a piece featuring undertale and fnaf characters in it.
matpat inspires me to exist. and create. and think and learn and seek and everything.
yes, it's a bit parasocial. but it's hard for it to not be considering that I've spent more than half of my life growing alongside this man, seeing him grow in real time in tandem with myself.
I'm growing up.
but I still feel like a kid.
that's good and bad.
the bad is the part of my childhood that I didn't get to have because of my puberty hitting early. it's the fact that some of me is still a 12/13 year old in 2020. it's how the internet affected my growth.
the good is the part of me that still gets unreasonably excited when one of my interests gets brought up "in the wild." it's the fact that I love stuffed animals. it's how the internet affected my growth.
I look back on myself as a kid and, yes, I do indeed get embarrassed or genuinely cringe at how I was in some aspects. but I smile.
because it's me.
despite everything, it's still me.
despite everything, I'm still me, and matpat is still matpat, and despite every single thing that we've all gone through,
we're still us.
I remember one year, I bought myself the theorist varsity jacket with some Christmas money or something.
my best friend has the theorist backpack, I'm pretty sure.
hell, matpat's probably one of the reasons that they are my best friend.
two absolute geeks of GT kids, bonding over the nerdy stuff they liked, probably talking about theories. I don't remember super well, that was elementary school, man.
but isn't that incredible?
the fact that I'm still friends with someone I met in the first grade because of nerdy people like matpat.
I am forever grateful that I found the game theorists and became part of that group. so much of who I am is because I am a theorist. because I found one guy on the internet making overanalytical videos about games.
matpat means a lot to me. and if in case he somehow reads this whole weird ramble prose post open letter thingy, then I hope it means something to him.
but, hey, that's just a theory.
thanks for everything, Matt. <3

something a bit more personal so heads up
some tomm/tsb (me) lore: i've been a big fan of dragon ball since 2019, was actually a dragonball fanartist for two years straight (was my previous heavy fixation until i caved into mario). i'm also a big fan of matpat / gametheory since ofc 2014 due to fnaf and got back to frequently watching him around 2021.
both HUGE impacts that idk where i would be without them ever interfering my already heck of an enigma life. worse part is the fact i have to say goodbye to them both JUST a day apart. yes mat isn't deceased but the thought of not seeing him as much anymore after JUST getting to watch him again is straight-up heartbreaking. i would still watch and am already fond of the existing crew and 100% approve his retirement reasons. yet it all has been tearing me apart personally. it hurts. a lot. its sad. very sad. but in the end: i'm happy. i'm happy for the memories, experiences, and growth i received with them that i was able to receive in my life. both young and now as an adult.
watching. playing, drawing, and talking about how goku and his friends will get through the next challenge. it's made me love friendship adventure stories so much more, anxiously waiting for the next episode of super every saturday night on toonami. impacting me to become more optimistic and not to be afraid to draw what i really love (fanart). matpat encouraged me to think inside AND outside the box, to question reality and fiction, open to criticism and theorizing in a more bigger picture. wether serious, comedically, or satire, it wasn't just learning about the world or inner depictions of video games, food, or how to style ourselves; but for fun and loving those around you. appreciating the moment and learning at the same time. someone i could genuinely relate to and open my heart back up to older franchises such as mario, learning the film industry as i always wanted to, learn to appreciate food and get out of my comfort zone, and ofc be more knowledgeable of what i wear and how it can impact me. i could seriously just keeping going on and on.
idk how to end this other than by saying thank you. thank you toriyama. thank you matpat. never was it in my bingo card of 2024, but nothing is going to stop me from continuing to love and appreciate the things these two amazing individuals brought into the world, impacting so many lives. 💚❤️💛💙 + 🐉💥

We'll miss you, MatPat.
Yes, I already made a post with my thoughts on this, but that was after the initial announcement. Things obviously feel different now.
Today's the day.
I've always been one to listen to things while I work, but Matt's content (whether individual Theory episodes or his and Steph's livestreams) was so, so special when I discovered it. Seriously, I can't understate how much it alleviated my near-constant stress from middle school all the way to college.
Imagine that: watching/listening to a funky guy gradually drive himself insane via animatronics and Nintendo oddities and what have you was the thing to help me whenever I felt numb or lonely or overstimulated. For years upon YEARS.
I won't lie and say I'm not sad to see Matt go. Trust me, there's definitely going to be some ugly tears on my part during the Final Theory.
But this is the best thing for everyone.
Matt will get an EXTREMELY well-deserved break. He'll get to focus on Stephanie and Oliver. His family will get more crucial quality time together.
Like he said before, he'll still be somewhere in the background, perhaps popping in on occasion. YouTube will never be the same without him, but that's not a bad thing when you really think about it. Change is inevitable for everyone; Matt and his family deserve this change. Besides, Tom, Santi, Amy and Lee are obviously going to do great things with each of the channels.
(Plus, let's all remember to be grateful that Matt isn't pulling an Unus Annus and having our new hosts start from scratch.)
And not only that, but this retirement isn't going to stop us fans from making stuff for/about him. Art, stories, memes, all the things that make a fandom community fun and wonderful! New things will be made for the new hosts, of course, but Matt is NOT going be be forgotten. Not by a long-shot.
Happy Retirement, MatPat. Thank you for all the content, memories, inspiration and help you've given your audience for so long.

You know it. I know it. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to say it again. Matpat is retiring or as I like to call it.
Ascension
Because the reality is that he has enough money to retire, he has a wife and kids which is something worth spending time on, he has a legacy with a mostly positive influence (which is the best you can do in this day and age) and he's been doing it for awhile so he's earned it. And while game theory will live on it won't be the same without him. Like there has never been a youtube channel that survived being sold to someone other than the person who originally created it. The views will crater, the revenue will dry up. It's just an inevitability and it's fine.
Rather than think about how much weaker the Game Theory brand will be without Matpat think about the opportunity to seize the throne of being The "theory guy" on YouTube.
There are some really amazing channels out there that break down stories and from video games and films in ways Matpat's format never allowed.
Flaw Peacock, Superhorrorbros, and Nightmind are really good and consistent at talking about more than just two or three subject matters and yes. If you want a slice of that theory pie that just opened up you'll have to travel outside of that security blanket that is FNAF and Deltarune/Undertale (although Game Theory allowed Deltarune to be dissected by other people after the first chapter for some unspecified reason) and really experiment. There are too few videos on Who's Lila despite it being a horror mystery visual novel with a metric ton of layers to it.
Celebrate the success of Matpat but start looking at plans to find your own success. The window has opened and its calling for you.

Scott is retiring
He just posted the news to his website- he’s retiring from fnaf.
And I think I can give my thoughts on the whole situation.
First of all: He shouldn’t have been doxxed. Nobody should be.
Doxxing can do so much damage to a person, phisically or mentally.
Having said that, the politicians he donated too are thrash. They want 75% of his fanbase dead, including me. Yes, he is a Christian, white, conservative man, but we expected better from him.
Do not attack people who produce fnaf content. Dawko, Markiplier, Matpat- They took no part in this situation. The fact that they get harrased for what Scott did is disgusting. Whoever is doing it needs to stop.
I think the controversy was the main push to retire, but he probably has been thinking about it for a while, filing it away for later.
With all that being said, fnaf is amazing, and I want to thank Scott for creating it.
It’s the whole reason I made a Tumblr account in the first place.
It has helped so many people become creators of their own: the fanartists, the fangame devs, the fansong writers, all of the people who got inspierd by fnaf.
I want to thank Scott for starting the theories, and basically starting MatPat’s carrier. for the staying up at night, thinking about what’s in the box.
I want to thank him for the past three years, because that’s how long I’ve been in the fandom.
And despite all that happened, I wish him luck.
I will not support him financially because I don’t want my money founding politicians who want me dead, but I’m gratefull for what he made.

If you guys are ever confused about something I'm into, reading, or watching, and have questions, please hecking ask. I know you might feel awkward about it, but please. I would love to answer your questions about my fandoms, no matter how weird
What's the plot of dsmp? I have no clue what happens in there
You're going to wish you hadn't asked but ok
It's kind of a lot but I'll do my best. Also it's still in the works, so technically any of this could change on a dime but
/rp (black font from here on out so I don't absolutely destroy your eyes)
Season 1:
So it starts off relatively normal for an SMP, with the Dream Team and some of their cohorts messing around. Then Tommyinnit and Wilbur Soot show up and start making drugs (potions) in a van.
Drug van -> drug empire. Drug empire -> country.
Dream doesn't like this, and the members of the newly formed L'Manburg (Tommy, Wilbur, Eret, and Fundy) go to war against those who are still technically with Dream or haven't split off and made their own faction (also known as the Greater Dream SMP). At the end, Eret betrays them. ("It was never meant to be" #1) They lose, but reparations are made and L'Manburg gets independence. Wilbur becomes president of L'Manburg, Tommy his vice. Eret becomes king of the Greater Dream SMP. Niki joins L'Manburg, completing its major members.
Commence Election Arc.
Wilbur decides to hold an election to make his government look more legitimate considering he kind of just claimed leadership. Naturally he tries to rig it and become the only candidate. Wilbur takes on Tommy as his running mate, forming the campaign POG2020.
(Note: MatPat made a Game Theory video on this section. While it misses about 75% of the plot and side characters, it's a good overview of this arc and the mechanics of the server in general. The theory is also wrong.)
Quackity challenges Wilbur, and runs another campaign with GeorgeNotFound as his partner, making SWAG2020. COCONUT2020 (Niki and Fundy) is also a thing that exists. No one votes for them.
JSchlatt joins the server under the guise of a political endorsement for POG2020, but promptly decides to make his own campaign (SCHLATT2020).
There's some drama afterwards, but the gist is that Quackity and Schlatt team up and combine their votes in the final election. (George was sleeping.) With their combined votes, SCHLATT2020 wins, making Schlatt the president, Tubbo (Tommy's best friend and Secretary of State under the Soot Administration) the new vice president. Quackity becomes the Secretary of State.
At his inauguration, Schlatt exiles Wilbur and Tommy (the "My first decree" speech). The two create a secret base outside the border (Pogtopia), Tubbo spies for them on the inside, and Technoblade, a violent anarchist, joins the server and sides with them. This is also the opening of Wilbur's insanity arc (aka the Vilbur arc).
Schlatt holds a festival, and Tubbo plans it. Wilbur puts TNT (TNT he got from Dream, I might add) under the podium and hooks it up to a button in the mountain, planning to press it and detonate about half the country after Tubbo gives his speech. Of course, things go south.
Techno is invited to the festival, while Wilbur and Tommy are not. After Tubbo's speech, Schlatt exposes Tubbo as a spy and orders Techno to execute him. Techno does so (the death system is weird here, and every character has 3 canon, or plot-important, deaths before they die die). And Techno being Techno, he kills everyone else attending as well. Wilbur can't actually find the button so no boom.
There's more tea and arguing but the next big event is 11/16/2020. By now quite a few people have sided with Pogtopia because no one really likes Schlatt as leader, and they decide to go to war, all in, everybody. (These are the events of SAD-ist's Dawn of 16th animation if you're curious)
Chaos ensues, lots of pvp, Schlatt dies of a heart attack for good (yes that's what happens) and Tubbo is inaugurated as the new president.
But wait. You just inaugurated a new president in front of an exceptionally violent anarchist. An anarchist who just so happens to have been the major supplier for the war you just won. Maybe that wasn't a good idea.
Anyways Wilbur finds the button, has a great monologue ("It was never meant to be" #2, and I do recommend checking this one out because the guy knows how to act.) (There's also another animatic by The Channel Without A Name that shows this scene, called Never Meant to Be) Philza Minecraft shows up for it. Wilbur presses the button, big boom, and asks, nay, begs Phil to kill him. Phil does. So now Wilbur's dead for good too. Phil is also Wilbur's dad in SMP canon.
Wow
Indeed. The timing on this bit is a little fuzzy, and most animators take some liberty with it considering there's only about 5 minutes difference between the button press and the following events.
L'Manburg blows, and Techno begins the Theseus/So You Want to Be a Hero monologue. He finishes and spawns two withers into the ruins, completing the major events of Season 1.
Afterwards, Techno leaves to retire with Phil (his old friend), Pogtopia is annexed, and Tommy goes back to L'Manburg.
Season 1 is the most concise and cinematic in my opinion. I skipped the opening of The Disc Saga, which doesn't become super important to the core plot until Season 2, but just know that it was happening in the background, and influenced some of the events (one of the main factors in the revolution, the reason Tubbo became the 3rd president instead of Tommy)
Do you actually want to hear about Season 2 or will I just be tacking on more to a very long post
I'mma be real w ya my brain is fried
That's fair
Another time

Night in the Woods theory: On religion
WARNING: This theory is not proven and is probably incorrect, and is really more just a headcanon of the religion in the game Night in the Woods. This is clearly a simple headcanon, please don’t think I’m pulling a MatPat and basing such serious things off of few elements in the game. Click below to read more about it if you’re interested!
TL;DR The church where Mae’s mom works is a church of a mad up denomination of Christianity known as Coalescenism.
So religion, it’s a thing that exists. And it’s in Night in the Woods, there is an obvious reference to it in the...well...church. So we know that religion plays a part in the game, even if it’s a small and somewhat convoluted one. But the religions are kind of conflicting, like in real life.
In historical times, it seemed to be a polytheistic culture, meaning there’s more than one god (in this case I am assuming that the gods are based on regions due to the existence of a forest god, but there is no evidence of these other gods names or titles) We know little about how these gods were worshiped or venerated, though we do know that (like many other classical deities) that they liked gifts and sacrifices. We also know each god may have had a tender, as evidenced by the existence of the character Godtender Brown.
Times have changed in the NitW universe, though, and those deities have become legends told in constellations. Of course, this is assuming no one ever wrote that particular polytheistic religion down, and its artifacts and principals were lost to time. The deities and figures once worshiped are now just children’s tales, storybooks forgotten and sometimes even used as target practice for your crossbow.
But what if it hadn’t been?
Suppose that, by some stroke of luck, somebody had written down the rules of this religion, and preserved them until their untimely demise, when the writings were discovered by a person with the vision of a religion?
Well, let’s say they did. And lets say that a miner in the Possum Springs limestone mine found the scrolls in one of the caves of the mine, and then claimed to be ‘visited by god’ and given a knew holy book to write. He writes and writes and everyone thinks hes insane until his version of Christianity (Where Jesus came to the old gods and toled them to join him or else something would happen like an apocalypse) and let’s say that sooner or later people started believing him.
Yeah. Let’s say that.
COALESCENISM
PART 1: Wait, what?
You may have just gotten whiplash from that. That’s fine. So what IS Coalescenism, and how does it work?
Coalescenism is a denomination of Christianity in which the old gods (Forest god, water god, whatever gods there were) and their patron saints were visited by Jesus and told that if they would not recognize his father, God, as their one true god, then they would all suffer horrible deaths.
It didn’t pan out.
See, the old gods and saints (simply known in the religion as ‘the elders’) were more powerful than Jesus, and simply would not let him have what they knew was theirs. They forced Jesus to perform tasks akin to miracles so they could know he was legitimately god’s son. And Jesus, being Jesus, performed these tasks.
Though the Elders were pleased they had not been duped, they were still not willing to give the God their control. So they cut a deal with Jesus: The elders would still control, protect, and punish as they saw fit. But god would be the final judge of the dead, and if they should go to heaven or hell.
And THAT is how that works.
PART 2: Is there anything different about Coalescenism from Christianity?
Not really. Coalescenism is based on the Episcopalian denomination, a (mostly) liberal subset of Christianity which focuses more on community and charity. They still celebrate most Christian holidays.
But what is different? Well, for one, the churches are BEAUTIFUL. Huge buildings with large windows and lots of natural light pouring into them, not wanting to rely too much on electric lighting.
Also, some ceremonies are different. Longest Night is an actual Coalescenist holiday, usually involving the lighting of torches/fires and the ringing of bells. Coalescenist music is more melodious than most traditional hymns, making concerts on Longest Night a thing that even non-Coalescenists attend due to its beauty. And on certain days, a Coalescenist curate will bless those members of the church in hospital by visiting them at bedside and blessing them.
Funerals are odd as well. Whenever a person becomes a member of the Coalescence church, they are given a bell. That bell has their name, the symbol of their patron god, and their date of birth on it. It also has a space left on it for the person’s date of death. hen they die, the bell is engraved, and it is rung for however many years that person was alive at their time of death. Once buried, the bell is kept, and is rung by the family once a year to appease the dead. To ring the bell more than once can be cause for VERY bad luck.
Services are also different as well. Typically, there are TWO sermons, one given by the pastor about the bible, a break for communion, and another sermon based on the book of the Elders. Also, a psalm is often read after the final sermon, to indicate that the service has concluded.
Church Vestry (The people who make the church run) are assigned to their posts permanently (or until they wish to leave/retire) and are often paid (not much, but it’s another source of income).
Finally, Coalescenists are not as crazy about indoctrinating the youth. They see themselves as hospitals for the sick, not clubs for the well. Their youth ministries are often set up as places for children to go if they have nowhere else to go on weekends or after school. It keeps kids out of trouble. This happens more with Coalescenist youth ministries because scripture isn’t forced down children’s throats. Instead, youth have to ASK about the elders and god. They’re never told about it expressly unless they are in a youth group, at a mission, or are at a service.  They also have a tendency to accept LGBT+ youth who need an escape from abusive families or school environments.
PART 3: How do multiple gods work?
Based on your family’s name, your personality, your name, your date of birth, and your gender, an elder is chosen to represent you. This elder is chosen to help you and is often the underling of an elder god (For example, Saint Rubello is an underling of the Fire god, and so answers to the fire god. He is often chosen for those of a quiet disposition, and often provides confidence) and is tasked with making a case for you as you are judged by god after death. If you are good to this elder, follow their rules, and do good by them, your chances of a good afterlife increase.
Elder Symbols are never assigned below the age of 15, and rarely above the age of 65.
PART 4 (last one I promise): How does one leave the church of the coalescence?
They tell the pastor of the church they’re going. The pastor asks if they wish to keep their bell. If yes, the person is given the bell and ties are cut. If no, the person does not receive their bell and ties are cut.
The person can return, be friends with members of the church, and even enter the church itself. They just can’t call themselves members of the church of Coalescence.
Honestly, the church has NO business or interest tracking people down and stalking them all around the country. If you leave, you leave. They really don’t mind.
____________________
PHEW! Okay! If you made it this far, Thank you so much! I know this was long-winded and probably not that interesting to read through, but I just wanted to share this little headcanon I had with you all. I hope whoever read it liked it! Thanks!
